1975. LUKE IS 19, DAISY 18, AND BO 17. LUKE CAME HOME FROM THE MARINES IN OCTOBER AND THIS IS NOVEMBER. IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING I STILL DON'T OWN THE DUKES OF HAZZARD. NOW ON WITH IT...
It was coming to the end of a cold November day in Hazzard county. Jesse was out of town visiting a distant cousin for the week, Luke was helping Cooter at the garage, and Bo and Daisy were securing the animals and putting frost covers on some of the plants in the back 40.
"I think it's about to start raining soon. We best head on back to the house." Daisy suggested, looking at the dark clouds and mist.
"Alright, good idea." Bo agreed. They started walking back to the house.
"Look out, Daisy!" Bo grabbed Daisy's arm and started running: the embankment they were walking next to was collapsing. Just then the sound of thunder was heard throughout Hazzard, and the rain started poring.
"Hurry, Daisy, come on!" Bo yelled at her, tugging her arm.
"I'm trying, Bo!" Daisy held on to Bo's hand for dear life.
The earth and rock caught up to Daisy and she was pulled down, pulling Bo along with her. Bo fell onto Daisy's legs, but caught himself before he crushed her upper half. Rocks and earth covered them both. After the slide was over, Bo threw most of the rocks off of himself. Bo stood up and pulled the earth off of Daisy, who was unconscious. The heavy rain streaked Bo's flowing blood from the side of his head to all over his face. He wiped it out of his eyes so he could see Daisy.
"Daisy, just hang on, I'll get you outta there!" Bo promised.
After un-burying Daisy, Bo fell to his knees exhausted. He took Daisy's pulse, was satisfied that there was one and started trying to wake her up. Just then, another large rock came loose from the embankment. Bo picked up Daisy's lifeless body and tried to start running. He tripped and dropped Daisy in the weeds, falling on his face, the rock landing on the right side of his upper back. Bo groaned and removed the rock from himself.
Then Bo felt his chest tighten. Not now, I've got to get to Daisy! Bo cursed himself. Soon he found himself struggling to breathe. Praying that he had one, Bo dug into his pocket and pulled out an inhaler. His hands were shaking, but he managed to get a little of the medicine a few times. The inhaler was pretty much empty anyway. He then laid on his side and wheezed for several minutes, trying to catch his breath.
Once he could breathe, Bo crawled over to Daisy, who was still unconscious.
"Daisy can you hear me?" Bo choked. No response. Bo picked her up and started walking back to the house.
He didn't know how he was doing it: he had a pain in his back, chest, and leg, and he was hardly able to breathe, yet he was carrying someone and walking on rough terrain in a thunder storm. A few times Bo set Daisy down and knelt down to take a breather, but he wanted to get her back to safety as fast as possible so, he tried not to take too many breaks. He didn't know how badly Daisy was hurt, and he wanted to get her back to safety so he could find out.
After about ten minutes, Bo couldn't breathe anymore so, he set Daisy down under a tree where she'd get the least wet from the rain, and laid on his back. He was worn out. He rolled on his side and curled up, wheezing and coughing, desperately trying to get air. He got an idea: he took his belt off and ran it through one of Daisy's belt routs, then through one of his own. He supported her upper body on his legs and back and started crawling towards the house.
By the time they reached the front porch, he was worn to nothing and he passed out.
A few minutes later he awoke again and crawled inside to the phone. He dialed doc's number.
"Doc. Daisy's hurt. Emergency. Please hurry, bye." Bo managed to cough out the words from his wet bloody lips. He then un fastened his belt from Daisy and laid her on the couch, before laying on the floor next to the couch. How he'd done it he'd never know, but it didn't matter, so long as he'd done it.
Soon after, Doc arrived and opened the door without knocking, since he knew it was an emergency. Bo crawled over to him.
"Never mind me. Daisy." Bo begged breathlessly.
"Oh, Bo, son..." Doc looked down at the bloody, suffocating teen.
"Daisy." Bo coughed.
Daisy finally woke up and looked around the room, surprised to see doc.
"Are you alright, Daisy?" Doc asked her.
"Yeah, 'side from my ankle, it hurts a heap." She looked around the room. How'd she gotten back to the house, an' what was the doc doin' here?
"Does your head hurt?" Doc asked.
"No, I only passed out 'cause... Because I was scared." Daisy admitted sheepishly.
"Alright, you hang tight while I tend to your cousin." Doc knelt down in front of Bo, who had just passed out at his feet.
"Bo?" Daisy crawled over.
"I'll see to him. You relax until I can get a look at you." Doc instructed.
"You poor kid." Doc mumbled as he put his stethoscope on Bo's chest. He ran out to his car and retrieved an oxygen tank. He placed the mask over Bo's face and started an IV, hanging it from a chair. Satisfied that Bo wasn't gonna die, he went over to Daisy.
"Let's have a look at your ankle." Doc removed her boot and examined it. "Looks like a pretty severe sprain. I'll have to wrap it."
"Is he gonna be alright?" Daisy pointed at Bo, tears in her eyes.
"He'll be alright, sweetie, you'll see." Doc reassured her as he wrapped her ankle. He then returned to Bo, who was stirring.
"Daisy? You alright?" Bo coughed from under the mask. Daisy took Bo's hand.
"I'm just fine, sweetie, don't you worry, now." Daisy kissed his cheek.
"Doc, Daisy hurt?" Bo choked.
"Daisy's just fine. Let me see to you now." Doc put his hands on Bo's shoulders.
"She's okay?" Bo asked one more time.
"Yes, I promise you, she's fine." Doc replied. "Let's have a look at you now." Doc pushed Bo's hair back and found the cut that had produced the bloody mess on his face. it wasn't very large, the rain had just spread the blood all over his face. Doc cleaned his face and bandaged the small cut, and checked all of the other bruises on his face to make sure they didn't need any attention.
"Daisy..." Bo gasped.
"Bo, son, she's jus' fine." Doc motioned for Daisy to tell him herself.
"I'm okay, honey." Daisy brushed her fingers through his hair.
Satisfied that Daisy was alright, Bo let the doc continue lookin' at him.
Next, doc removed Bo's shirt. "Probably some broken ones in there." Doc said as he looked at the bruises on Bo's ribs. He cleaned the scratches.
"How are you feeling?" Doc asked him.
"My back hurts..." Bo admitted. After listening to Bo's lungs for a few minutes, doc rolled Bo onto his stomach.
"Several broken ribs back here, too." Doc sighed. "I can wrap you up here, but you'll have to come to my office tomorrow for some x-rays, alright?" Doc said.
"Kay." Bo didn't dare speak too much. Doc wrapped Bo's chest and back and helped him on to the couch.
"Any pain anywhere else?" Doc asked him.
"My ankle hurts, but jus' a little bit." Bo admitted.
"Let's take a look." Doc pulled his boot of and examined his ankle. "Did you walk on this?" Doc asked him.
"I mostly crawled." Bo looked at the floor.
"You are one tough kid." Doc smiled at him as he wrapped up the sprain. Daisy made her way over to the couch and sat on the floor.
"Are you alright, sugar?" Daisy stroked his hair.
"Yeah, I'm jus' glad you are." Bo smiled at her from behind the mask.
"Let me give you a little something for that pain you must be in." Doc rummaged through his bag.
"Don't knock me out." Bo begged.
"Alright." Doc smiled.
After Bo wasn't in too much pain any more, doc wrote prescriptions for both of them for pain medicine, and left instructions and an order for Bo to get an x-ray the next day to make sure that there wasn't anything else wrong. He also called up Luke over to the garage to tell him to get on home an' take care of his cousins.
"Thanks for saving my life, Bo." Daisy sniffed just after doc left.
"Anything for you, Daisy." Bo smiled weakly.
The next day Bo got his x-ray and there were no further issues: all the breaks were clean so, he didn't need any surgery.
