Daisy was at the Boar's Nest, Jesse was working in the barn, and the boys were out mending the fence. They'd been digging holes and sticking posts in for hours.
Luke stood back from their work and opened his mouth to speak, but Bo beat him to it: "Are you okay, Bo?" Bo chucked.
"Well are you?" Luke laughed.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Bo smiled.
"You-"
"Look like you're breathing kinda hard." Bo interrupted him.
"Well you do." Luke argued.
"I'm fine." Bo stabbed the shovel into the ground and stepped towards Luke.
"Could ya hand me my shirt?" Luke gestured to his shirt that was on a fence post next to Bo.
"Here."
"Thanks." Luke wiped his face with it.
"C'mon we best get back to it." Bo grabbed the shovel.
"Bo..." Luke tossed the shirt back onto the fence.
Bo rolled his eyes. "We've been shuckin' an' jivin' uncle Jesse about fixin' this fence for weeks now." Bo started work again.
"You're right: we've gotta get it done, but not a the cost of-"
"What, my life? I ain't gonna die from a little asthma attack."
"Bo, you could die." Luke grabbed Bo's shoulder and turned him to face him.
"And so could you, just as easily as I could. You never know what's gonna happen."
"Bo you have-"
"I know dang well what I have, and I ain't gonna chose to be useless on account of it."
"Well, don't you come cryin' to me when you collapse suffocating." Luke sighed and picked up his shovel. "Actually, I take that back-"
"I know, I know: you're always here fer me." Bo stepped towards Luke and gave him a quick one armed hug. "Thanks."
"Hey, what's family for?" Luke smiled. "I'm also here to demand that you take some inhaler. If not for your sake, mine." Luke grabbed Bo's shirt off the fence post and handed his inhaler to him from the pocket.
"I reckon I could use some." Bo coughed a few times before he took the inhaler.
The boys an' Jesse worked the rest of the day, until around 6:30 and they all headed in the house. Jesse threw together a quick dinner and went to bed. Bo and Luke collapsed on the couch, forgetting that they had to pick Daisy up from the Boar's Nest, seeing as how her Jeep was at Cooter's for repair.
After a short nap, Bo woke up and remembered Daisy. Seeing that Luke was exhausted, (he was asleep on the couch in a seemingly uncomfortable position) Bo went out to get Daisy himself.
Daisy'd been working late to make extra money to get her Jeep repaired so, she wasn't expecting anyone until 7-7:15 or so.
General Lee acted up before Bo could get to the Boar's Nest so, Bo CB'd Cooter.
"Alright, Bo, I'll down and gone." Cooter took off to come tow him in.
When Cooter pulled up, he saw Bo kneeling at the side of the road throwing up. Cooter trotted over to him and knelt next to him.
"You okay?" Cooter placed a hand on Bo's back.
"I think..." Bo managed through the coughing and heaving.
"You sure as heck don't look okay."
Bo lost his balance and started to fall forward, but Cooter grabbed him. "I'm gonna take you home, buddy."
"Daisy's waitin' fer me." Bo panted.
"I can get 'er. Where is she?" Cooter sat Bo up and helped him lean against the General Lee.
"It's alright. We've gotta get the General to the garage anyway." Bo caught his breath.
"Let's get you into my truck and I'll hook up the General." Cooter slowly got Bo to his feet.
Bo took a few steps, before falling into Cooter.
"Are ya hurt?" Cooter looked him over briefly.
"No, jus' dizzy. I had a hell of an attack a minute ago." Bo regained his composure and let Cooter take most of his weight on the way over to the truck.
Cooter had no intention of letting Bo go off to get Daisy by himself in his condition, but he didn't know how he was going to persuade him to let him do it for him.
Cooter hooked up the General and got into the truck.
"Why don't we CB Luke and have him go get Daisy? I'll drive you on home." Cooter offered.
"I'm alright. Jus' tired an' all asthma-ed out for the day. Me an' Luke wore ourselves out on the farm today and he was asleep on the couch by the time we needed to pick up Daisy so, I jus' went alone." Bo sighed and leaned back into the seat.
"I'll CB your uncle Jesse, then." Cooter suggested.
"He worked hard, too. He went to bed before I left."
"He'll be happy to wake up and get you, Bo."
"I don't wanna bother him, he's already asleep."
Cooter sighed and started off for the garage.
Once they got back to the garage, Cooter started work on the General. Bo'd fallen asleep in the truck on the way there.
Cooter was hoping that he could keep Bo asleep long enough to get him home, but he dropped his toolbox and the sound woke Bo up.
"Cooter?" Bo got out of the truck and helped Cooter pick his tools up off the ground.
"Sorry I woke ya." Cooter sighed.
"That's okay." Bo walked over to the General. "How long you figure it'll take? I've still gotta get Daisy."
"Not too long." Cooter replied.
"I'll CB her." Bo leaned into the General.
"Bo peep, you out there? Come back."
"Where are you, Bo?" Daisy sighed.
"I'm sorry the General Lee done give out on me. I'll be there in about..." Bo looked at Cooter.
"30 minutes." Cooter said.
"...30 minutes."
"Alright, I'm gone." Daisy set the CB down.
"She wasn't as mad as I thought she was gonna be." Bo smiled.
Cooter looked his enfeebled friend over for a minute. "Why don't ya sit down a while." Cooter suggested.
"I jus' took a little nap, I'll be fine now." Bo shrugged.
"Bo, you're sapped. Jus' sit down 'till I've got the General ready, okay?"
"Alright." Bo climbed into the General and leaned back in the seat.
Meanwhile at the Boar's Nest, Daisy was pacing outside, waiting for Bo to arrive. She decided to go back in and get a beer while she waited.
Daisy got herself a beer and set it down on the bar. She was about to go put money in the cash register to pay for it, but Boss Hogg emerged from his office, saw the scene before him, and deduced that Daisy Duke was stealing a beer.
"Daisy!" Boss shouted and ran over to her.
"Boss, this ain't how it looks-" Daisy started.
"Rosco!" Boss called, and Rosco came out of Boss' office.
"What do we have here?" Rosco approached.
"Daisy here was stealing a beer!" Boss pointed a fat finger in accusation.
"That's a naughty, naughty!" Rosco pulled his gun.
"Rosco, I wasn't stealing anything! I've got the money to pay for it right here!" Daisy held up some bills.
"That's a lie, Daisy. You Dukes just lie all the time." Rosco pulled out his handcuffs.
"Even if I was stealing it, that's less than a misdemeanor. You can't arrest me!" Daisy argued.
"Oh, tiddly tuddly!" Rosco reached for Daisy's wrist. Then they all turned their heads to the sound of the Dixie horn. Daisy threw the money to pay for the beer onto the counter and ran outta the Boar's Nest like a bat outta hell, jumping into the General Lee.
"After her Rosco!" Boss ordered, not realizing that he had no case against her now, seeing as how she'd paid for the beer that she hadn't even taken.
Rosco got in his patrol car, CB'd Enos, and started the chase. Enos was near by so, he caught up with Rosco quickly.
"What're they sayin' you did?" Bo asked.
"They say I stole a beer, one piddly beer! And I didn't even steal it." Daisy tossed her hands. Then she looked at Bo's face.
"R'you okay, honey?" Daisy reached to touch Bo's face.
"Yeah." Bo mumbled.
"What's wrong, Bo?"
"Me an' Luke wore ourselves out today. 'Sides that I had a few asthma attacks." Bo shot a quick look at Rosco and Enos in the mirror.
"You want me to drive?" Daisy could see Bo getting weaker by the minute.
"I'm okay." Bo assured her.
"You look like you're gonna pass out." Daisy continued.
Bo didn't reply, he only attempted to stifle a coughing fit.
"You're gonna have another one-" Daisy started.
"I'll make it long enough to lose them." Bo coughed.
After a while, Bo found a place to jump the General, and they took off flying. Rosco wrecked into a tree that was next to the jump, and ordered Enos to stop and pick him up. Then Enos made the jump with Rosco.
"Dang it!" Daisy looked in the mirror.
"Daisy, I can't..." Bo struggled to breathe.
"Alright, alright..." Daisy started thinking. "We'll switch seats." Daisy grabbed the wheel. Bo kept his foot on the gas until Daisy got hers on it.
"There's an inhaler in my purse." Daisy handed her bag to him.
"I'm gonna pass out..." Bo leaned back onto the seat and tried to get air.
"Use the inhaler, Bo." Daisy kept one hand on the wheel and dug through her purse with the other. She found the inhaler and handed it to him.
"You can do it." Daisy cleared the hair from his eyes.
Bo struggled with the inhaler while Daisy struggled to try to lose Enos and Rosco.
After a long fight with his ever-constricting airways and shaking hands, Bo managed to get his lungs some-what under control.
"There you go, it's gonna be alright." Daisy ran a hand through his hair.
"I'm gonna be sick..." Bo bent into himself.
"Dang that Boss Hogg!" Daisy slammed the steering wheel with her palm.
Bo gripped the edge of the window sill and leaned out a little.
"Try to take it easy." Daisy patted his leg.
"I'm gonna do it out the window..." Bo warned.
"Alright." Daisy continued driving.
"What in the world?" Rosco watched Bo throw up out the window. "They're tryna booby trap us Enos!"
Enos took a closer look. "Bo's being sick all over..." Enos grimaced at the disgusting substance.
"That's gross..." Rosco coughed. "Well it ain't gonna stop us!" Rosco giggled.
"What if somethings the matter with Bo, sheriff?"
"They're just tricking you, ya dipstick." Rosco rolled his eyes.
Enos picked up the CB. "Y'all alright in there?"
"No Enos, Bo ain't alright. I've gotta take him home, could you please knock this craziness off?" Daisy urged.
"I would Daisy, but I can't." Enos looked over at Rosco.
Rosco grabbed the CB from Enos. "If you pull over, I'll take you on in and I'll CB your uncle Jesse to come and get Bo." Rosco offered. He didn't want this to end up like it had 7 years ago when Bo'd ended up in the hospital because of him.
"Alright, fine." Daisy sighed and pulled the General over.
"Daisy, don't do this to yourself." Bo urged.
"I'll be fine, sugar." Daisy took a tissue from her bag and wiped Bo's mouth. "uncle Jesse'll come get you soon." Daisy kissed his cheek before climbing out of the General to be taken in by Enos.
"Alright Enos, cuff her and stuff her!" Rosco giggled. "Bo Duke, you tell me right now: are you faking?" Rosco peered in the window.
"Rosco!" Daisy turned to face him. "He can barely breathe, he's not faking! CB uncle Jesse like you said you would!"
"If he's faking, Boss Hogg'll just kill me." Rosco reasoned.
"Rosco, please..." Daisy started.
Bo made his way out of the General Lee, just to collapse on the side of the road coughing and throwing up.
Enos had just cuffed Daisy and put her into the patrol car.
"Enos, go help him." Daisy begged.
Bo rolled onto his back and shut his eyes. "Anybody, please help me..."
Daisy hated not being able to go help her baby cousin. "Rosco you get him help now!" She shouted.
Enos trotted over to Bo. "Are you hurt?"
"N-no, I jus', I-I...help me...I w- jus' help me..."
"How can I help ya, what can I do?" Enos asked.
Bo didn't know what he needed, but Daisy did. "Enos let me help him." Daisy begged.
"Sheriff, please let me un-cuff Daisy?"
"You can cuff her to yourself." Rosco directed as he went to CB Boss Hogg.
Enos un-cuffed Daisy, and then cuffed himself to her. Daisy ran over to her cousin, Enos in tow.
"I'm here, now, Bo." Daisy took his hand.
Bo released a harsh cough and rolled his face towards Daisy.
Rosco emerged from Enos' car. "Boss says we gotta take Daisy in and leave Bo here. We'll CB Jesse or Luke to come get him."
"I ain't leaving him here!" Daisy shouted.
"We're-" Rosco started.
"I don't care! I ain't about to leave Bo on the side of the road!" Daisy wiped at her eyes.
"We ain't leaving him here alone, Daisy. We're gonna wait until your uncle Jesse or Luke comes to get him." Rosco clarified.
"Oh, alright." Daisy knelt back down next to Bo.
"Daisy..." Bo was trembling now.
"I'm here. You're gonna be okay." Daisy started fondling his hair.
"What's the matter with him, Daisy?" Enos was beginning to get very concerned.
Daisy didn't even hear Enos, she was focused on her baby brother, who was trembling in the dirt on the side of a road. Nothing was more important to her than Bo at that moment.
"Rosco!" Daisy turned to face him.
"What do you want?" Rosco asked.
"Did you CB uncle Jesse an' Luke?" Daisy demanded.
"Yeah, they's both comin'." Rosco assured her.
"Oh, Bo, baby..." Daisy looked at Bo's face, which was getting paler by the minute. "Hang in there, honey..." Daisy caressed the side of his face with her hand.
"Daisy, what's wrong with him?" Enos was almost to the point of tears.
"Huh?" Daisy turned to face Enos.
"What's wrong with Bo?" Enos pleaded.
"His asthma." Daisy went back to stroking Bo's face. "It's real bad tonight, he must've worked real hard today or something..." She sighed.
"I-I, Luke..." Bo finally realized what he needed.
"He's comin', sweetie..." Daisy bent to kiss his cheek.
"I wanna go home..." Bo tried to sit up.
Daisy and Enos helped him to sit up against the General Lee.
Bo let his head drop to his chest.
Rosco slowly approached them. "He wasn't faking, was he Enos?" Rosco sighed.
"You're dang right he wasn't!" Daisy shot a fiery look at Rosco.
"I'm sorry, Daisy." Rosco swallowed hard as he looked at Bo's pale face.
"If you was sorry, you'd drop these fake charges you got against me and let me take him home." Daisy starred coldly at him.
"I can't do that even if I wanted to, only Boss Hogg can." Rosco sighed. "I already let Bo off the hook for aiding and abetting." Rosco added.
"I reckon you did, didn't you?" Daisy softened her look. "Thanks." She sighed.
Bo dropped to the ground on his side and curled his legs up. He swallowed the scream that wanted out and instead grunted and bit his lip.
Daisy took his hand. "Where does it hurt?" She asked softly.
"I'm alright." Bo grunted.
Daisy was sick of Bo trying to be brave for her sake. She wanted to help him, but she couldn't if he wouldn't give into her.
"Ahhhh..." Bo gritted his teeth. He hadn't meant for any sound to escape him, but it was becoming unbearable.
"Where does it hurt, Bo?" Daisy turned his face towards her.
"My neck, and my stomach." Bo mumbled. Oh, how he hated that inhaler.
Daisy reached back to massage the muscle spasm in Bo's neck.
Jesse and Luke pulled up in the pickup. Luke trotted over to Bo, and Jesse made his way over to holler at Rosco.
"Luke's here now, honey. I love you. G'bye." Daisy kissed Bo's cheek.
Daisy took Luke to the side for a minute. "He's real bad off. I ain't seen him like this in a few months now. He's in a lot of pain, but he's trying not to let on. He's still breathin' kinda rough, and the side effects are comin' on strong." Daisy filled Luke in before Enos had to take her to Rosco.
Luke patted his little sister's hand as she was whisked off to the patrol car. Then he looked down at his little brother, took a deep breath, and said a silent prayer.
"Hey." Luke knelt next to Bo and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Where's it hurt, cuz?"
Luke was trying his best to seem strong and composed, but it was hard seeing Bo laying in pain like that. Bo hadn't had an attack and side effects this bad for a month or two, and it got scarier each time. He'd made it out alive of every asthma attack he'd ever had, but that didn't mean it wasn't scary as hell for him, and the people around him. Especially his family, who loved him too much to see him like that time and time again.
"Bo, tell me where it hurts." Luke repeated himself.
Bo took as deep a breath as his lungs would permit, which wasn't very big, and opened his mouth to speak. No words would come, though, only a pained grunt as he lifted his hand to show Luke where the pain was.
"Let's see what we can do here." Luke removed Bo's shirt and gently placed a hand on his stomach. Then he slowly started massaging the pained area.
Bo bit his lip and swallowed the sound effects, but Luke could still see the pain: "You want my hand?" he offered his free hand for Bo to hold.
Bo grabbed Luke's hand and just about squeezed the life out of it.
Still unable to speak, Bo let out a moan, one he'd been holding in for a long time.
"Look at me, Bo." Luke tipped Bo's face towards him.
Bo steadied his eyes on his older cousin's face.
"Take a deep breath." Luke took one himself as an example, and Bo copied as best as he could.
"There ya go." Luke continued manipulating the muscles in Bo's stomach, distracting him with deep breaths.
Bo exhaled loudly as the spasm started to fade away.
"You gonna be okay?" Luke pulled him into to a sitting position.
"Yeah." Bo let his head fall onto Luke's shoulder.
"...that all I gotta say!" Jesse finished.
"Now Jesse, you'll have to say all that to Boss. Right now me an' Enos has gotta stuff Daisy in the clink!" Rosco giggled.
"She didn't do nothin' wrong an' you know it!" Jesse bellowed.
"I put Boss' dang money on the bar!" Daisy shouted.
"Then Boss ain't got no case against her." Luke concluded.
"Yes he does, he's-"
"There ain't no evidence." Luke added.
"Ooohh... git! Well she's-" Rosco looked down at Bo, collapsed in a feeble mess in Luke's arms, fighting to keep himself half-conscious. "I reckon there ain't no evidence, is there?" Rosco mumbled.
Within 45 minutes, the Dukes were pulling up at the farm. Daisy in General Lee, an' Jesse an' the boys in the pickup.
"Let's get him in his bed." Luke pulled the sleeping Bo off of Jesse's shoulder.
Luke was burnt out from farm work, but he didn't care: he could still carry Bo to bed, he could always carry Bo. He ain't heavy, he's my brother. Luke thought as his tired muscles ached against Bo's weight.
Luke made his way into the house and laid Bo down in bed. Since he'd already removed his shirt earlier, all that had to come off were his jeans. Luke removed Bo's belt and tugged his jeans off. Then he pulled a blanket over him, making sure to keep his face clear so he could breathe properly, or as properly as he could given the circumstances. Bo looked asleep, but Luke could tell that he wasn't fully asleep.
"If you need anything you wake me up." Luke gently patted his shoulder.
"mmmm..." Bo reached his hand out.
"Yeah?" Luke turned back.
"ank ya..." Bo slurred.
Luke wrapped his arm around Bo's shoulders. "Ain't no trouble." He whispered. "Now get some sleep, cousin."
