It's 1981 and I don't own the Dukes of Hazzard.

Luke woke up to the sound of Bo moaning. He snapped on the lights and saw Bo laying on his side on the bedroom floor, throwing up. Luke dropped to his knees behind his cousin, easing him up and holding him against himself.

After several seconds, Bo stopped throwing up, but the heaves were replaced with harsh, wet coughs: the sound of his ever frequent lung infections, which he'd had one of for the past few days.

"Easy there, Bo." Luke soothed.

"I..." Bo tried to speak, but he couldn't manage to get the words out through his painful coughs.

"Alright, you're okay." Luke dragged Bo away from the mess on the floor.

After a long fit, Bo finally coughed up a large clot of mucus.

Luke picked his filthy cousin up and carried him into the bathroom, setting him down on the floor.

Then he took his Bo's temperature, frowning when the thermometer read 104.5

"You set there a minute." Luke leaned him against the wall and started a shower. Then he bent down next to Bo and started helping him take his sweatpants off.

"I'm gonna clean you up, okay?" Luke picked him up.

"Is it cold?" Bo asked.

"Yeah, a little cold." Luke wanted Bo's fever to come down.

"Oh, please no, Luke..."

"I'm sorry, cuz." Luke eased him into the bathtub.

Luke took the sprayer and pushed Bo's thick, curly hair away from his forehead so he could spray his forehead and face.

Bo tensed his muscles against the coldness.

"I know, I know." Luke continued spraying Bo off until all of the throw up was gone from him. Then he put his arm across Bo's chest and hooked his hand under his armpit so he could hold him up while he reached for some towels.

He grabbed three several towels from the cabinet under the sink, spread one out on the floor and hung the other two on the towel bar.

"Alright, c'mere." Luke picked Bo up out of the bathtub, placing him on the towel.

Bo shivered violently as Luke draped another towel over his shoulders. Then Luke took the last towel and thoroughly dried Bo's mop of wet hair with it.

"Once you're all dry I'll take ya back to bed." Luke promised as he dried his shoulders and back.

Luke grimaced at the sound of four harsh, more than likely painful coughs, and the wheezing that came at the recovery of them.

Then he heard Bo attempt to speak, but his dry throat wouldn't allow it. "You need something? Jus' nod."

Bo shook his head no: he'd been trying to tell Luke that it hurt, but by the sympathy that he heard in Luke's voice, he could tell that his cousin already knew he was in pain.

Then Luke picked him up and carried him back to bed, careful of the mess on the floor.

"You okay?" Luke asked as he pulled the blankets up.

Bo didn't reply. He could hardly breathe, much less speak. He knew he had to acknowledge and thank Luke somehow so, he pulled his hand out from under the blankets and fished around in the dark until he found Luke's shoulder. He gripped it and patted it upon releasing it.

"You don't have to thank me, Bo. You jus' sleep now." Luke turned out the lights.

Jesse'd heard the noise so, he came to the boys' room to make sure that everything was okay. He walked in and saw Luke cleaning throw up off the floor, with a flashlight aimed on the mess.

"He okay?" Jesse whispered, kneeling next to his eldest nephew.

"He is now." Luke continued cleaning.

"Let me help." Jesse grabbed a towel and started helping to clean up the mess. "How's his fever?"

"It was 104, but I showered him off."

"What's it now?"

"I didn't check..." Luke got up and stuck the thermometer in Bo's mouth. He expected it to wake Bo up, but to his relief, Bo stayed asleep.

"102." Luke reported.

"Alright." Jesse went back to cleaning.

Once the mess was cleaned up, Jesse went back to his room, and Luke went to bed.

The next morning, Bo woke up nauseous again. He made his way to the bathroom as fast as he could, dropping to his knees in front of the bathtub.

Daisy and Jesse were in the kitchen, letting the boys sleep in, when they heard Bo come into the bathroom. Jesse was cooking so, Daisy went to go see to Bo.

"Aw, honey..." She knelt next to him as he threw up.

"m'm c-cold, Daisy..." Bo wheezed.

"You're alright, I'll warm ya up in a minute." Daisy wrapped an arm around his back.

Once he was done throwing up, Daisy helped him lean against the wall.

"Let me take your temperature." Daisy stuck the thermometer in his mouth. "102.4"

Bo lowered his head and coughed a clot of mucus into his mouth. He looked up at Daisy, who understood and grabbed a tissue, placing it under his chin. Bo spit the mucus into it, and Daisy threw it out.

"I-I'm dizzy..." Bo grabbed Daisy's shoulder to steady himself.

"Why don't we get you back in bed an' put you on that oxygen that doc left fer ya?" Daisy suggested.

"Yeah..." Bo wheezed.

"Alright. You set tight here, I'll go get Luke to come heft ya." Daisy headed for the boys room and stood over Luke's bed.

"Luke?" She shook his shoulder.

"Comin' Bo..." Luke got up and knelt at the side of Bo's bed, still half asleep.

"Luke, honey..." Daisy turned his head to face him.

"Daisy?" Luke opened his eyes. "Where's Bo?" He demanded, realizing that Bo wasn't there.

"He's in the bathroom. I need ya to heft him back into his bed." Daisy helped Luke to his feet.

Luke followed Daisy to the bathroom, where he pulled Bo up into his arms and carried him back into the bedroom.

"Luke... I can't breathe..." Bo wheezed.

Luke took a few seconds to access the problem. Seeing that Bo wasn't having an asthma attack, just trouble breathing due to the infection, he didn't jump up to 110 level of urgency.

"You can breathe, cuz." Luke lowered him into the bed and pulled the blankets over him.

"I can't..." Bo continued.

"I'll go get the oxygen." Daisy walked over to the closet.

"Bo alright, Daisy?" Jesse hollered from the kitchen.

"Yeah!" Daisy called back as she pushed the oxygen tank over to Bo's bed.

"Here, Bo..." Luke put the cannula in his nose.

"Daisy, get my pillow..." Luke requested, and Daisy handed it to him.

Luke picked Bo's head up and slipped the extra pillow under it. Then he pulled him upward slightly, propping him up a little.

"Just breathe." Luke patted his arm. Look after him for a minute. Luke asked Daisy with a look before he went to clean up the mess in the bathroom.

Daisy sat on the edge of Bo's bed and began to soothe him.

"You're safe, honey." Daisy took his shaking hand. "It might hurt, but you can breathe." She whispered as she began to stroke his hair.

Bo relaxed as Daisy's smooth fingers raked through his hair and he gentle words melted into his ears. Before long he was asleep.
