ik ik I said the weekend... srry. lol i was sooo busy. Still 1983, right after that last chapter. anyhow I dont own them Dukes, but as i've said before, they own a big piece of my heart. especially my baby Bo. now on with the story!
After being up all night with Bo, Jesse'd expected Luke to be out like a light and ready to sleep in. He should've known better than that, though: if Luke could help it he'd never sleep in when one of his cousins was sick, and both of them where. He could help it so, he didn't sleep in. Jesse found him sitting on the side of Bo's bed pushing his sweaty curls behind his ears, speaking softly to him to wake him up. It was 5:30, normal Duke wake up time, and Luke had to go do chores, but he wanted to see to his cousin first.
"How is he?" Jesse asked as he walked into the room. Bo obviously didn't look too good, but he had to say something.
"He looks awful." Luke replied as he starred at Bo's pale face. "How's Daisy?"
"She don't look to good neither." Jesse sighed. "But don't you fret none, Luke. They're Dukes: they'll be jus' fine in a few days." Jesse had worries of his own, but he kept them to himself for his eldest's sake: he was already worried enough.
"I've gotta get to the chores." Luke sighed. "Daisy awake?"
"Yeah, she's awake."
"Luke…" Bo turned his head from side to side slowly as he started waking up.
"I'm here, cuz." Luke steadied Bo's head with a hand to the side of his face. Luke felt kinda selfish for waking Bo up once he heard how weak his voice was. But Luke had no need to feel like he was being selfish: wasn't he the one who'd been wet-nursing Bo all night?
"How's Daisy?" Bo slurred.
"She's okay, Bo. Sick, but she's okay." Jesse patted Bo's arm.
"I've gotta get to the chores now, cousin. There anything ya need 'for I leave?"
Bo shook his head no as he dozed off again.
"Alright. I'm gonna head on out an' do the chores, so you've got 'em both fer a spell." Luke got up and headed out.
"You sleep good and long, son. I don't want ya awake an suffering." Jesse took Bo's face in his hands for a moment before going to make Luke some breakfast.
"Uncle Jesse?" Jesse hardly heard Daisy rasp for him.
"I'm comin', darlin." Jesse trotted to her room. "What's the matter?" he asked.
"My stomach huuuurts…" she moaned.
"I know," Jesse sat next to her and stroked her cheek. The pain was obvious in her eyes, and her frail voice. "Do ya gotta throw up?"
"I'd hate to, but…" Daisy hesitated: she really didn't wanna throw up again.
"Alright, it's gonna be okay…" Jesse pulled a pot out from under her bed and helped her lean over the side.
"No…" Daisy coughed as the heaves began.
"It's okay, honey…" Jesse took his free hand to soothingly fondle her hair with.
After quite the amount of bile was produced, Jesse laid her back.
"I think we'd best get you an IV. You're already throwin' up that water that I gave ya 7 minutes ago." Jesse sighed, taking her hand.
"No, no…" She protested.
"I'm sorry darlin'. I ain't got no choice." Jesse kissed her cheek and went to call the doctor, again.
Several minutes later, Jesse'd just hung up the phone from calling the doc, when he heard a loud noise from the boys' room.
"Bo?" Jesse trotted into the room to see what'd happened, and there lay Bo curled up in a mess of blankets on the floor, just about coughing his lungs out.
Well, at least the doc was already coming. "Bo?" Jesse gently turned him on his back.
"Uncle Jesse?" Bo wheezed as the coughing fit faded away.
"What are ya doin' on the floor, son?" Jesse pulled him up and leaned him against the bed.
"Fell..." Bo panted, still wheezing quite a bit.
"Here..." Jesse reached into the drawer of the side table. "Have this." he put an inhaler up to Bo's mouth.
Bo grabbed Jesse's wrist and steadied the inhaler in his mouth, desperately wheezing from it. His panicked attempts weren't really getting him anywhere though.
"Calm down, son..." Jesse gently pried the inhaler away from his desperate grip. Bo panicked again and grabbed for it, but Jesse took his hand and stopped him.
"It ain't gonna do ya no good if ya don't calm down." Jesse spoke soothingly. "Now open yer mouth an' let me do it fer ya." Jesse requested, and Bo did as he was told.
"Deep breath." Jesse said.
Bo wheezed in rapid, short, shallow breaths.
"C'mon Bo, I know you can do it." Jesse ran his fingers through Bo's hair. "Deep breath this time."
After several more attempts, Bo managed to take a few deep breaths of the inhaler.
"Lets get you back in yer bed." Jesse helped him to his feet, but Bo fell forwards onto him, so Jesse eased him back onto the floor gently.
"We'll wait fer Luke to come back." Jesse decided, beginning to rub Bo's shoulder so that Bo knew that he was there for him.
After several minutes of silence Bo rolled on his side to face Jesse. "luke come...soon..." he mumbled, not opening his eyes.
"I'll jus' go fetch him." Jesse stood up.
Ordinarily Bo would protest against bothering Luke, but he was just too miserable right now.
Jesse went out onto the porch and called for Luke.
"Yes sir?" Luke called back from the barn.
"Come see to yer cousin, he's fallen out of his bed!"
"Is he okay?" Luke shouted as he bolted towards the house. Jesse figured he should've known to make it clear that Bo was fine to keep Luke from freaking out.
As Luke was running, Jesse heard Daisy calling.
"Uncle Jesse!"
"What?" Jesse ran into her room.
"He stopped now but a minute ago Bo was makin' a bunch of noise. Is he okay?"
"I'll go see. Thank ya darlin'." Jesse rushed to the boys' room, where he found Bo laying a few feet away from where he'd been on the floor before, just a few inches away from a mess of throw up. He was breathing very hard and laying on his side.
"Bo, Luke's comin'. Are ya okay?" Jesse knelt next to him and turned his face to him.
"It hurts, Uncle Jesse..." Bo panted.
"I know..." Jesse started stroking his hair.
Then Luke finally made it from the barn. "Bo? What happened?" Luke took a place on the floor next to Jesse.
"I ain't sure, but I want ya to get him back in his bed." Jesse stood up.
"Luke, help...wanna...be bed..." Bo slurred.
"Okay, cousin. C'mere." Luke picked Bo up and gently laid him down in bed.
Jesse and Luke pulled the covers back over Bo.
"You sleep, an' don't fall this time." Jesse chuckled lightly.
Bo was already asleep, though.
...
Within the hour, doc'd showed up to give Daisy her IV. Once that was done, he briefly checked Bo over again, gave him an IV as well, and was on his way.
"How long do I have to have it?" Daisy asked.
"As long as yer stomach ain't aceptin' what ya put in it." Jesse replied.
"Okay..." Daisy started closing her eyes.
"Doc says you should try drinking again tonight." Jesse added as Daisy dosed off.
"Mhmm..." She sighed as she fell asleep.
"Good night, darlin'." Jesse kissed her cheek.
Jesse emerged from Daisy's room to find Luke standing in the doorway of the boys' room, just staring at Bo.
"C'mon, son, why don't ya eat somethin'?" Jesse took him by the arm into the kitchen.
"Sorry about the chores, I'll get back to 'em right quick." Luke promised as he picked up an apple.
"You is gonna have a proper meal." Jesse decided as he started making it.
Within a week, the widow's chicken was out of their systems an' Bo & Daisy was back to themselves again. Luke and Jesse came out of it exhausted, so Bo & Daisy let them sleep through an entire day. (myb there will be a chapter about that, not too sure on it yet)
but anyway this section thingy is over UNLESS I happen to think of something I want to add to it that is worthy of its own chapter. cause theys always room for edits/add ons. it like 4 am so i reeeeeeely wanna sleep now so, that be all. see ya next update :D
