1984. LUKE IS 28, DAISY 27, AND BO 26. AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW OCD SAYS I HAVE TO PUT JESSE'S AGE, TOO: 64. (I WENT BY DENVER PYLE'S AGE) NO OTHER SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES ACCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT AS USSUAL I DON'T OWN THE DUKES OF HAZZARD. NOW ON WITH THE STORY ALREADY!
"How you feelin', Daisy?" Bo asked, knelt at her bedside.
"Better than yesterday." Daisy replied hoarsely.
"Can I get ya anything?" Bo asked.
"No thanks, I just wanna sleep." Daisy sighed and closed her eyes.
"Alright, I'll check on you later." Bo shut the door and headed for Jesse's room, where Luke was taking Jesse's temperature.
"I'm alright, boy, quit your worrying." Jesse fussed.
"It's gone down a little, that's good." Luke smiled.
"I told ya I was alright." Jesse mumbled, falling asleep again.
"How's he doin', Luke?" Bo opened the door.
"His fever's comin' down a little." Luke stood up and headed for the door.
"Daisy says she's feeling better than yesterday, but her fevers' about the same." Bo told Luke as they both headed for the kitchen to wash their hands.
"Now, you just remember what we promised each other." Luke said.
"I know, one of us starts feelin' sick we gotta tell the other." Bo sighed.
"It'll be better for everyone that way." Luke dried his hands.
"If I get sick you're gonna have to care for all three of us. I just couldn't make you do that." Bo sighed.
"Ain't that what aunt Lavinia spent her life doing?" Luke reminded him.
"I reckon so." Bo picked up an apple and slipped on a coat as he headed out the door to chop some more wood for the fireplace.
"Hey, Bo wait..." Luke grabbed his arm.
"Yes, I have one." Bo pulled an inhaler from his pocket and showed it to Luke.
"Alright, just checking." Luke laughed a little, and Bo couldn't help but laugh a little, too.
"See ya." Bo shut the door. Look after him for me, would ya? Luke silently asked God.
"Luke, Bo?" Daisy rasped from her room.
"I'm a'comin'!" Luke ran into Daisy's room.
"I think I need to throw up." Daisy curled on her side, trying to restrain it so it didn't end up on the floor.
If it had've been Bo, Luke could've hauled him over his shoulders and into the bathroom to droop his head over the tub, but Daisy always liked to use kitchen pots so, Luke ran into the kitchen, got a pot and some towels, and put the pot at beside Daisy's bed.
"Alright, easy now." Luke helped her lean over the side of the bed. Daisy threw up for about five minutes.
"I'm done, I think." Daisy wretched.
"Alright, let me clean ya up." Luke wiped her face and put the pot aside.
"My stomach hurts pretty bad." Daisy told him.
"Lay down and I'll get ya some of that stuff that doc Appleby gave us." Luke pulled the blankets back over Daisy and headed to the kitchen to get the medicine.
"Here ya are. It's tastes like crap, I know, but it'll help." Luke lifted Daisy's head and a spoon to her lips.
"Thanks." Daisy managed when she was finished.
"You just get some rest." Luke laid her down and stroked her hair until she was asleep, which was about ten minutes. Then Luke returned to the kitchen to see if Bo was done with the wood chopping yet.
"Bo?" Luke opened the door and called out to him.
"Yeah?"
"That should be enough wood, huh?" Luke studied the large pile.
"Kay." Bo stabbed the axe into a large log and trotted towards the house.
"Are you alright?" Luke asked when he saw that Bo was shaking.
"It's really cold out there." Bo took his jacket off and laid it on the table.
"Let me see you." Luke grabbed Bo's head and placed the back of his hand on Bo's cheek. "Alright, you're fine." Luke removed his hands.
"I coulda told you that." Bo chuckled. Sometimes it was funny when Luke got overprotective, as long as it didn't get in the way of what Bo was trying to do.
"Older cousins can never be too sure." Luke picked up the thermometer and grabbed Bo's arm.
"C'mon, Luke, I'm fine!" Bo laughed.
"Come here, Bo." Luke sat Bo down in a chair and put the thermometer in his mouth.
"Told ya so." Bo smiled when the thermometer read 98.5
"You..." Luke ruffled Bo's hair.
"I see a dirty pot.. Uncle Jesse, or Daisy?" Bo turned on the water and started cleaning the pot.
"Daisy, poor girl. She ain't doin' too good." Luke handed Bo the soap.
"Should we feed them?" Bo asked when he was finished cleaning the pot.
"Uncle Jesse could take some bread and broth, but I don't think Daisy'll hold down more than a little water." Luke opened the fridge.
"Alright, I'll go give Daisy some water." Bo got a glass and filled it, heading off to Daisy's room.
"Hey, Daisy?" Bo took her hand.
"Bo?" She mumbled.
"You gotta drink some water, kay?" Bo gently sat her up.
"I don't want any..." Daisy mumbled.
"Doc says you gotta keep drinking." Bo lifted her head and put the glass on her lips.
"Okay." Daisy accepted a small amount of the water.
"Oh, Bo, it hurts..." Daisy curled up.
"I know, I'm so sorry, Daisy." Bo set the glass down and took her hand again.
"I'm kinda dizzy." Daisy mumbled.
"You need water, is why." Bo picked up the glass again. "Just a little more." Bo lifted the glass to her mouth.
"Alright." Daisy agreed and finished the water.
"Atta girl." Bo rubbed her hand for a few minutes and then went back to the kitchen, where Luke was warming broth for Jesse.
"She drank the whole glass, but she ain't feelin' too good at all." Bo put the glass in the sink.
"Yeah, I expect it's gonna take her a few days to get up to eating like it did for Uncle Jesse. Call up the doc, he may as well give her an IV." Luke suggested.
A few hours later, doc had come and gone, upgrading Jesse to chicken soup with buttered bread, and giving Daisy an IV. Bo and Luke were both completely exhausted so, they both laid down for an hour or so.
Neither of them meant to fall asleep, it just happened.
"Hey, boys?!" Jesse called at the top of his voice, he was certainly feeling better. Bo and Luke woke with a start and ran to Jesse's room.
"Are you alright, uncle Jesse?" they asked as they opened the door.
"Yeah, I just wanna ask you for some water is all." Jesse replied calmly.
"What was the hollering for, then?" Bo chuckled.
"I called several times, guess you didn't hear." Jesse explained.
"I'll get ya some water." Luke went to the kitchen and brought back some water.
"How's Daisy?" Jesse asked.
"Uh, we haven't checked on her in a while. I'll go see to her." Bo got up and headed for Daisy's room.
"Daisy, you alright?" Bo put a hand on her shoulder.
"Better than earlier. It don't hurt so bad now." Daisy rolled over to look up at Bo.
"Guess that medicine Luke gave you this morning is doing it's job." Bo smiled. "Need anythin'?"
"No, just sleep." Daisy closed her eyes.
"Alright, see ya." Bo shut the door and headed to the living room where Luke was.
"How she doin'?" Luke asked.
"Better." Bo sat down on the couch.
"Let's not fall asleep again, Bo." Luke nudged him.
"Alright." Bo stood up again.
THAT EVENING JESSE'S FEVER BROKE AND HE INSISTED THE THE BOYS MAKE HIM DINNER SO, THEY CALLED THE DOC AND HE SAID IT WAS FINE SO, JESSE ATE DINNER AND TOOK A SHORT WALK AROUND THE FARM, BEFORE HEADING TO BED FOR THE NIGHT. DAISY STILL HAD A FEVER AND SHE STILL COULDN'T EAT. BO AND LUKE WENT TO BED EARLY TO CATCH UP ON SOME OF THEIR LOST SLEEP.
