1984. i dont own them dukes
Late that night, Bo woke up and looked over at Luke's bed, which was empty. He realized he forgotten to wake up to check on Jesse and Daisy. He got up and headed for Daisy's room, where he assumed Luke would be.
"Luke?" Bo whispered into the darkness.
"Bo?" Daisy woke up and rubbed her eyes.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up, but I may as well take your temperature, kay?" Bo knelt next to Daisy's bed.
"Alright." Daisy mumbled.
"101." Bo whispered.
"Better?" Daisy mumbled.
"A lot." Bo smiled and left the room, heading for Jesse's room. He cracked the door open and saw that Luke was not in there, so he decided not to wake Jesse. Next, Bo walked into the kitchen.
"Luke?" No response. So, next Bo headed for the bathroom. The door was shut, but the light was on.
"Luke, you alright?" Bo knocked on the door.
"That you, Bo?" Luke asked.
"Yeah. You okay?"
"No..."
"Unlock the door." Bo turned the knob.
"Kay." Luke unlocked the door and let Bo in.
"I reckon I got it now." Luke chuckled as he leaned back over the bathtub.
"Ah, Luke..." Bo knelt next to him.
"Been at it for a while now. I reckon I'm done." Luke decided.
"Ya need help?" Bo put his arm around him.
"Yeah, the rooms spinnin' around in circles." Luke leaned back against Bo.
"Let's get you back into your bed and take your temperature." Bo picked him up over his shoulders and carried him back to bed.
"103.4" Bo told him.
"What is?" Luke asked.
"Your fever, silly." Bo replied.
"My head hurts..." Luke rolled over in the bed.
"Alright, that's it. I'm callin' the doc." Bo recognized that Luke had all of the symptoms that Daisy had had when she first started.
"No, don't do that..." Luke mumbled and reached his hand out to grab Bo's arm.
"At least take some of the medicine, then?" Bo pleaded.
"Maybe." Luke mumbled.
"You always say I'm stubborn when I'm sick, but sheesh, Luke, you ain't much better yourself." Bo chuckled and got up to get the medicine.
"I don't want it..." Luke turned his head away when Bo put the spoon to his lips.
"C'mon... you made Daisy and Jesse take it, now it's your turn." Bo urged.
"It tastes like crap..." Luke complained.
"And you feel like crap. You'll feel better if you take this." Bo shoved it in his mouth when he opened it to complain again.
"Ew..." Luke coughed and pulled the blanket over his face after he swallowed.
"You sleep. I'm calling the doc." Bo patted his shoulder.
"I said no..." Luke complained. Bo didn't reply, he just went to the phone and called up the doc, who arrived 20 minutes later.
"Let me see you, Luke." Doc pulled down the blankets.
"I told Bo not to call ya..." Luke rolled on his back.
"Well, he did and here I am." Doc smiled and listened to Luke's heart and lungs.
"Where is Bo, anyway?" Luke reached his hand out.
"Checking on your uncle, he'll be right back." Doc knew how the boys always comforted each other.
"Bo?" Luke wretched.
"Relax, he'll be here in a minute." Doc assured him.
"What's the matter, he alright?" Bo came in and knelt next to the doctor.
"Bo?" Luke coughed.
"I'm here now." Bo took his hand.
"Stay this time..." Luke whispered.
After several minutes, doc was finished with his examination and he led Bo to the side to talk to him.
"Give him the same stuff that I gave you for the others every 3 hours or so. Keep him warm unless his fever gets above like, you know maybe 103.5 or so. I'll go check on the others since I'm here." Doc left the room.
"Bo, come back..." Luke moaned. Bo sat on the edge of the bed and put his arm on Luke's shoulders.
"What'd he say?" Luke mumbled.
"To give you the crap every three hours." Bo chuckled.
"I won't take it..." Luke muttered.
"You ain't in no shape to protest." Bo replied.
A little later on, Luke had fallen asleep, and doc had called Bo out into the family room.
"Jesse is just fine now. If he doesn't over do it, tomorrow he can be up and around like normal. Daisy is doing alright, but it will be about two more days before she's up and about." Doc told him.
"Alright. How about Luke, is he gonna be alright?"
"If you keep him in bed, make him drink, and make him take the medicine, he'll be fine in a few days." Doc smiled.
After the doc left, Bo got a few hours of good sleep before getting up for the rounds.
The next morning, Jesse was insistent upon caring for Daisy so Bo could rest while he wasn't caring for Luke. Bo agreed, but on the condition that if Jesse felt weak, he had to tell him: no buts.
"Bo?" Came the raspy holler from the boys room.
"Comin'!" Bo came to his bed.
"My stomach hurts..." Luke whispered.
"Do you gotta-"
"No, thank God." Luke interrupted him before he even mentioned the awful thing.
"Maybe you ought to have some water, you look pale." Bo got some water.
"I can do it..." Luke reached for the glass and chugged it. He remembered how hard it was to feed Jesse and Daisy water that they didn't want, and didn't want his caretakers to have the same experience, although he knew he was going to complain about the 'crap'
"You want anything else?" Bo asked after Luke was finished.
"Nah." Luke curled up and quickly fell asleep.
"Alright, see you in a few hours for the crap." Bo patted his back and left the room.
Jesse was in the kitchen, making soup for Daisy.
"Uncle Jesse?" Bo walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah?"
"I'm real tired. Can I take a nap, and you wake me if Luke needs me?" Bo asked.
"Of course, son." Jesse patted his back.
Bo retired to the living room couch. If he tried to sleep next to Luke it would be impossible: worry would overcome him and he wouldn't be able to sleep. So, he stretched out on the couch and feel asleep within seconds.
Jesse brought Daisy her soup and took Luke's temperature before he went to his room to read a book for a while, leaving the door open of course, in case anyone needed him.
About two hours later, Bo awoke to give Luke the medicine.
"Crap time, cousin." Bo pulled back Luke's blankets and gently sat him up.
"No..." Luke covered his mouth.
"Ya gotta." Bo lifted his head.
"I swear, there's real crap in there..." Luke mumbled before giving up and opening his mouth.
"Maybe, maybe not." Bo set the spoon down and offered Luke some water to wash the horrible taste out with.
"Hey, Bo?" Luke mumbled.
"Yeah?"
"When it's your turn, I'm gonna enjoy feeding you crap..." Luke chucked.
"You won't, and you know why?" Bo started.
"Because you'll refuse to take it?"
"How'd you know?" Bo laughed.
"Because it tastes like crap." Luke smiled.
"Well I gave you some water, didn't I?" Bo pointed to the glass.
"Yeah, yeah, sorry..." Luke drank it and set it on the night table. Bo got up to leave.
"You know I didn't mean that, right?" Luke offered.
"Yeah, of course. I make corny jokes when I'm sick, too." Bo smiled.
Luke just chuckled and rolled his eyes before falling asleep again.
"Bo, come here!" Jesse called from the kitchen.
"Yes, sir?" Bo came into the kitchen.
"Now you be honest with me... Are you feelin sick at all?" Jesse asked.
"No sir." Bo replied.
"If you do, you need to tell me. If you walk around with this illness and don't tell anyone you could end up in the hospital, you hear me?"
"I know. I'll tell you, I promise." Bo chuckled a little, not enough for Jesse to notice, of course.
