1984. SORRY THAT IT'S BEEN A FEW DAYS SINCE I UPDATED... I FELT I DESERVED A NIGHT OR TWO OF GETTING AT LEAST SIX HOURS OF SLEEP SO, I TOOK A BREAK FOR A FEW DAYS. ANYWAY, I DON'T OWN THE DUKES OF HAZZARD.

A few nights later, Luke woke up to check on his cousin. He quietly got out of bed and went over next to Bo's. Bo was laying flat on his back, IV'ed wrist laying straight down next to him and his other arm was across his stomach. The oxygen mask was falling to the side a little, as Bo had been messing with it: it was really itchy.

Luke could still hear him wheezing as he watched his chest rise and fall, but it was no where near as bad as it had been a few days ago when doc had come. Bo was sound asleep and Luke really didn't want to wake him, but it was time to take his temperature.

Luke gently removed the oxygen mask and slipped a thermometer between Bo's lips, maneuvering it underneath his tongue. Bo remained asleep.

After several minutes, Luke removed the thermometer from Bo's mouth and read it: 102.5 Luke decided to try and cool Bo down a bit. He pulled the blankets down and put a cold rag on his forehead, at this, Bo started to wake up.

"Luke?" His voice was very raspy, as his throat was dry and sore.

"I'm right here, cuz." Luke put a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"I'm cold..." Bo mumbled.

"You need to cool off for a minute or so." Luke held the rag on his face.

"Don't wanna..." Bo rolled to his side.

"Hey, listen to me, Bo." Luke realized that Bo wasn't fully awake. He grabbed the sides of his face.

"Huh?" Bo opened his eyes and laid back.

"You're fevers gettin' up there so I'm gonna cool ya down 'fore it gets too bad." Luke tuned on the lights and continued cooling Bo's face.

"Okay." Bo shut his eyes and let his cousin care for him, although the cold rag was unpleasant. He didn't want to make a fuss for Luke.

"Are you hurtin' anywhere?" Luke asked him.

"When I breathe." Bo mumbled.

"Alright, let's put this back on now, then." Luke put the oxygen mask back on him.

"I'm alright, you can go to bed, Luke." Bo insisted.

"Let me get your fever down a bit, first." Luke replied, sitting on the side of the bed.

"You're gonna get sick again if ya don't sleep." Bo reminded him.

"Well, you are sick: sicker 'an I was 'cause of your dang asthma." Luke put an arm around Bo's back. "Don't worry about me."

Bo fell asleep qucikly with Luke's comforting embrace.

After about 20 minutes, Luke got Bo's temperature down to 100.4. Pleased with his efforts, he covered Bo back up and returned to his own bed.

A few hours later, Daisy woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. She didn't know why, but something was telling her to go check on Bo and Luke. She put on her robe and walked to the boys room.

She slowly opened the door, so not to wake them if they were asleep. Daisy tip toed into the room and stood over Bo's bed for a few minutes. She watched his chest rise and fall and listened to the raspy, shrill sounds his lungs made as he breathed. She studied his actively sweating face.

Maybe his fever's finally breaking. Daisy thought to herself.

Then she stood over Luke's bed and watched him sleep for a few minutes. Finding nothing wrong with either of her cousins, Daisy went back to her room, but she still couldn't sleep.

Why can't I sleep! Daisy was becoming frustrated. She was exhausted but she couldn't sleep. She decided to find a book to read. She walked into the living room and looked through the shelf.

She pulled out aunt Lavinia's old copy of 'Little Women' and headed back to her room. Daisy remembered the summer when she was twelve-years-old and Lavinia would read it to her, two chapters a day until it was finished. As she skimmed over the book, she feel asleep, dreaming of her dear aunt Lavinia.

The next morning, Luke went to wake uncle Jesse and give him some good news. It was a little earlier than the Dukes normally woke up, but Luke just had to tell Jesse.

"Uncle Jesse?" Luke cracked the door open. Jesse sat up straight and grabbed his robe.

"Is it Bo? He alright?" Jesse rushed to his feet and into his slippers.

"Bo's just fine. That's what I come to tell you. He ain't got no fever no more." Luke smiled.

"Well, praise be!" Jesse smiled. "How are his lungs?"

"Better than last night. He seems to be doing a lot better this morning." Luke told Jesse.

"That's just wonderful. Ask him if he feels like drinking or eatin'." Jesse suggested.

"First I'll go tell Daisy." Luke knew how worried Daisy had been before they had gone to bed last night. Luke headed to Daisy's room and opened the door, seeing Daisy asleep with the book still in her hands.

"Hey, Daisy, wake up." Luke opened the curtains of her window. Daisy stretched her arms and rubbed her eyes, then she realized that Luke had woken her up before it was time... that could only mean one thing.

"Is he alright?" Daisy rushed into her robe and slippers and ran for the door, but Luke grabbed her shoulders.

"He's just fine, Daisy, he's doing a lot better." Luke assured her.

"You sure?"

"Yeah, he's fine. He ain't got no fever anymore and he ain't usin' the oxygen." Luke smiled and showed her to to boys room.

"See look." Luke opened the door and pointed to Bo, who was sleeping comfortably, accept for the IV that Luke had yet to ask doc if he could remove.

"Aw, he looks a lot better." Daisy smiled.

"Told ya." Luke put his arm around Daisy's shoulder and walked her into the living room where Jesse was sipping some coffee.

"Sorry to have worried y'all. I just wanted to let you know that he was doin' better." Luke apologized.

"I reckon we's just paranoid from these past few days." Jesse said.

"I'll finally gonna be able to get some sleep!" Daisy sighed happily.

"I'm gonna call the doc and ask him if we can take the IV out and have him come pick up the oxygen tank." Luke headed to the phone.

"Daisy?" Bo called, his voice almost normal. Daisy headed for the boys room.

"Did you come in here last night?" Bo was sitting up and he had some color in his face. Daisy was relieved to see him looking normal again.

"Yeah, how'd ya know?" She asked.

"I woke up when ya opened the door." Bo smiled.

"I was jus' worried about you, honey." Daisy sat on the edge of the bed and ran her hand through his hair.

"I'm alright, Daisy. I swear, y'all worry too much." Bo chucked.

"You should have seen yourself when me and uncle Jesse and Luke was sick." Daisy smiled.

"Can we take it out now?" Bo asked Daisy.

"Take what out?" Daisy asked.

"You know..." Bo held his wrist up to Daisy and pointed to the back of his hand, not daring to look at the needle in him.

"Oh, Luke's callin' the doc to see if we can." Daisy replied.

"Good." Bo sighed, relived. Just then, Luke walked into the room, holing a towel and some of Jesse's shine.

"What's gonna hurt?" Bo looked at the shine: whenever that bottle was brought out, it meant that someone was either in severe pain, or was fixin' to be.

"Nothin, I hope." Luke took Bo's hand and started removing the tape that was keeping the IV in place.

"Than what's that for?" Bo pointed at the shine.

"Cleaning your skin where the needle was." Luke pushed Bo's head the other direction. "Don't watch."

"Watch what?" Bo turned his head back.

"I'm fixin' to pull this out." Luke pointed to the needle.

"Well, I figured on that much." Bo turned his head away. Luke quickly and mercifully pulled the needle from Bo's hand and wet the towel with some of the shine, dabbing the area a little.

"Ya done yet?" Bo opened one eye.

"Yep, all done." Luke picked up all the stuff and left the room.

"I'm a normal person again!" Bo sat up and stretched his arms. Daisy smiled at him.

"Are you hungry?" Luke came back into the room.

"Heck, yeah." Bo replied.

"Alright, doc says you can have some dry toast and some eggs." Luke went to the kitchen and told Jesse that Bo was indeed hungry, just as they had suspected.

Daisy talked with Bo for a while before heading to the kitchen to help the others make breakfast.

"I think I ought to eat in there with Bo." Luke told them.

"Good idea." Jesse knew that Bo would insist on coming out if everyone else was eating in the kitchen, since he was feeling better.

This was the hardest stage of sicknesses: the part where you force Bo to rest until he's 100% better.

Luke took his and Bo's food into the bedroom and ate with him. After Luke had cleared the dishes away, he came back to talk to Bo.

"You are to stay in this bed today, you hear me?" Luke started off sternly, he knew it was gonna be a long day.

"Aw c'mon..." Bo complained.

"You wanna get to feeling as bad as you did the other day?" Luke asked.

"Alright." Bo rolled over, he was still a little tired anyway.

"I'll see ya later, cuz." Luke patted his shoulder and headed out to do the chores.

Daisy did her chores, and then she went back to her room. She had gotten herself all upset, missing Lavinia last night. She was relieved that Bo was better, as that had been the main thing bothering her, but now she missed Lavinia.

Daisy sat on her bed and picked up the book. Although the it was very old, Lavinia had kept it in good condition. It had belonged to Lavinia's grandmother. Daisy was honored to have possession of one of her late aunt's most prized material things. She couldn't help but cry a little bit: she missed Lavinia, she missed the parents she'd never even known, and she hadn't had much sleep lately.

Daisy eventually fell asleep. She slept for around two hours, before waking up to make sure that Bo was still alright. She headed to the boys room.

"Hey, Bo, how ya doin'?" Daisy asked as she walked in.

"Bored." Bo was sitting up, blankets kicked to the side.

"You'll be back to nearly killing yourself every day jumping the General Lee in no time." Daisy giggled.

"Reckon you're right." Bo smiled.

"Do you ever think of aunt Lavinia?" Daisy said quietly.

"Lots of times." Bo lowered his voice, too. It seemed fitting.

"I miss her." Daisy's eyes moistened.

"Me too." Bo put a hand on her shoulder.

"Last night I was worried and I couldn't sleep so, I went to get a book to read. I found her old copy of 'Little Women'. She read it to me during the summer of '69. I really miss her, Bo." Daisy wiped a few tears.

"Me, too Daisy. You know what I remember about the summer of '69?" Bo started.

"What?"

"That was the summer that me an' Luke fixed it so we was blood brothers. Aunt Lavinia weren't too happy when she found out that we had cut our hands." Bo chuckled.

"I remember that! Is there still a mark on your hand?" Daisy asked him.

"Yep. And I'm proud of it." Bo held his right palm out for Daisy to see.

"Aunt Lavinia sure wasn't!" Daisy laughed.

"Yeah, she was real mad wasn't she?" Bo chuckled.

"Thank you, Bo." Daisy kissed his cheek.

"What fer?" Bo asked.

"Cheering me up." Daisy smiled.

"Don't you mention it. I needed a laugh myself." Bo patted her hand.

Later that day, Luke let Bo come out of bed and walk around for a few minutes. Inside the house, of course.

"Alright, back to bed." Luke grabbed Bo's arm and forced him back into their bedroom and into the bed.

"Can I eat diner with y'all?" Bo begged.

"You'll eat bread and soup, but you can eat it with us at table table, hows that?" Luke offered.

"Alright." Bo agreed.

"If you're still feeling good tomorrow, I'll let you get up and we'll see if we can't find Rosco and have us a little fun." Luke promised.

"I can drive?" Bo pleaded.

"If you're still feelin' good." Luke replied.

THE NEXT DAY...

"YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAW!" The loudest rebel yell Luke had ever heard from his cousin echoed through the hollow as the General Lee took off flying.

"Rosco still there?" Bo looked over at Luke.

"You lost him before the jump. He didn't dare even try that one." Luke chucked as he looked in the mirror.

"Alright, General!" Bo slapped the steering wheel.

Yep, Bo was all better.
