Chapter 2
The next morning, Sans went down into the lab, calling Gaster to come with him and Frisk. Curious, the elder skeleton brother joined them and listened as Frisk told him about her visitor the night prior. "And he said he is a Gaster?" He asked.
"Yeah, he is," Frisk said. "But his name is Refract."
"So he's an alternate version of myself," Gaster said. "I wonder why he decided to give you your new powers though."
"I think he saw our kiddo's determination to help others," Sans said. "But even so, Frisk, you can't ever misuse your powers. If you do, it can not only backfire on you and hurt you, but someone else could take advantage of your powers and even...hurt you."
She nodded understandingly. "I want to start helping other AUs," she said. "From what Refract told me, there's a lot that don't have their happy endings."
"There are many, yes," Gaster said. "Which is why you must be very careful."
"I wish we could go with you, but that wouldn't end very well," Sans said. "The alternate versions of us may not all be so friendly."
He booted up the machine and Gaster helped him, setting up coordinates and giving Frisk a backpack with necessary supplies. "I don't like that you have to do this alone, but if Refract trusts you, then so must we."
The ten-year-old girl took a deep breath. "I want to find the six children that fell too, along with Chara and Asriel," she said. "If I can heal other AUs, I can possibly heal our time too."
Sans smiled and ruffled Frisk's hair. "You're so selfless, baby bones," he said before hugging her and Gaster hugged them both.
"We'll start with one AU first," the elder skeleton brother said. "I've set a time for this portal to show up in a safe area. As soon as you've completed your quest, come back to the portal and it'll bring you here."
"Okay, Uncle Gaster," she said.
After the coordinates for one of the AUs were locked in, Frisk stepped into the portal, finding the area to be desolate and awful. She walked forward, stopping as she saw what looked like Sans, only he was different. The Sans glared at her, about to grab her with his magic when her hands started to glow. The glow made him stop and he looked at her and she looked at him before looking saddened. "What happened here?" She asked.
The skeleton scoffed. "As if you don't know," he said bitterly.
"What do you mean? I've never been here before."
He activated a FIGHT sequence and Frisk saw that this Sans counterpart was called Geno and this AU was called Aftertale. She gasped as she then realized why it looked like this. "A genocide run," she said in horror.
Seeing the horror on her face, Geno blinked and sighed. "Yeah," he said.
She activated her powers again. "Um...I'm still new to this, but...I have the power to heal this AU," she said.
Geno looked at her in surprise. "To heal this AU?" He repeated in question.
She nodded. "I've never done it before, but I'm going to try my best," she said.
She then took a deep breath and bit her lip, focusing on her surroundings and as her hands glowed brightly, she extended them out, her palms facing outward.
Magic flowed around the wasteland and to Geno's shock, the damage was reversing. He watched in awe as the kid continued to heal the timeline. Once the area was once again beautiful, he turned to her. "Kid," he said hesitantly. "Can...Can you bring back...my bro?"
She smiled. "I'm going to try," she said, closing her eyes as she pictured the people that lived there. Time began to rewind and in a blink of an eye, Geno looked up to see everyone had returned and Frisk stood before him, the glow of her hands calming down as she gazed around, seeing all the monsters looking confused, but Geno looked at her with an expression of hope and wonder.
Frisk then took a deep breath, hoping her powers could shatter the barrier. Barely a second later, the barrier was shattered and the monsters were stunned, looking at the human, who smiled at them. "It's going to be okay," she said. "The humans that were in the war are gone. It's peaceful now."
Geno looked at her and called up her stats, finding that she was telling the truth. "I don't know who you are, kid, but...thank you," he said. "Keep on the good path, okay?"
She smiled. "I will," she promised before she began to head back to where the portal to home was.
Just as she reached the Ruins, Refract suddenly appeared before her and she jumped in alarm. "Refract?" She asked.
"Frisk! Oh, good. I made it," he said, looking worried. "Be careful. There's..."
A scream rang out and something crashed behind them and they turned to see a monster similar to Grillby, only his flames were the deepest red Frisk had ever seen. And he was glaring at her.
Gaster and Sans, seeing this, rushed to jump in to get Frisk, but the new Grillby sent a fire spear into the portal, damaging the controls and making the portal close.
"No! Frisk!" Sans cried out in shock.
Gaster got to work mending the controls, but saw some of it was melted. "Quick! Salvage what we can," he said. "We need to rebuild this and fast."
In Aftertale, Refract stood up, shielding Frisk. "Volcano, what are you doing?" He asked.
"The child will misuse that power, Refract!" He replied.
"No, she won't," Refract said. "She's proven she won't."
"She will!" Volcano roared as he got ready to attack.
"Frisk, run!" Her friend told her.
Wasting no time, she began running as Refract managed to block most of Volcano's attacks, though some did hit near the girl. Geno motioned to Frisk and pointed ahead. "Run that way," he said. "And whatever you do, don't look back."
Nodding, she ran, but before she was out of sight, Volcano roared and sent a huge fireball at her, one that Refract couldn't block in time and one Frisk wouldn't be able to dodge. "Frisk!" Refract called out.
"Look out!" Geno screamed.
She turned and gasped, tripping and falling to the ground. The fireball was coming closer and she wouldn't have time to get out of the way. She tried to use her powers, but they didn't work on the fireball. Just as she thought she'd get hit, she felt four hands grab her, two grabbing her wrists while two more lifted her up by her underarms, pulling her quickly into a glowing white portal. A moment later, blue strings grabbed the portal, destroying it just before the fireball hit the ground.
Frisk didn't move for a moment before hearing two people sigh in relief. "Okay, that was way too close," one said.
"She's s-safe," said another voice, sounding like it was glitching. "Th-That's what matters."
Frisk turned to look behind her, her eyes widening at seeing two people who looked very much like Sans, except one was in brown clothes and had a paintbrush while the other was darker. Both looked at her in concern.
"You okay, kiddo?" The painter one asked, reaching out a hand to help her up.
The other one did the same. "D-Don't worry. Y-You're safe here," he said. "Th-They can't enter here."
"Not unless I let them," the other one said.
Frisk suddenly felt exhausted and started to fall back. "Wh-Whoa!" The darker skeleton said, catching her quickly, cradling her carefully.
"Oh, she's exhausted," the painter said.
Frisk couldn't fight her exhaustion anymore and fell asleep in the stranger's arms.
I bet you all can guess who saved Frisk. :)
