Chapter 3

Frisk opened her eyes to find herself in a place she didn't recognize. She sat up, finding herself in a bed that was soft and warm. She noticed a change of clothes on a chair next to the bed and a piece of paper with it. Climbing out of the bed carefully and holding onto it for a moment to make sure she didn't get a dizzy spell, she lifted up the paper, seeing it was a note.

'Change into these when you wake up and we'll wash your clothes. And don't worry, you're safe here.'

The girl did so, finding the clothes to be a blue shirt and dark blue shorts, both being light and comfortable to wear. Just as she finished changing, a knock came to the door and she jumped, hiding behind the bed. The door opened a moment later.

"Hello?" A female voice called out gently. "Are you in here, kiddo?"

Frisk peeked out from around the bed and saw a tall young woman standing in the doorway. She had brown eyes, dark hair, and wore a brown shirt, black pants, and rainbow sneakers. Seeing the child peeking out from behind the bed, the young woman smiled gently. "There you are," she said, coming into the room, but stopping on the other side of the bed. "You can come out, sweetie. I won't hurt you and neither will my mate or our friend. They actually saved you and you passed out afterwards."

The child remembered now. "Your mate and friend?" She repeated questioningly. "Um, does one have blue strings and the other...wears brown clothes?"

"That's them," the young woman said with a smile. "My name is Charlotte. I understand your name is Frisk?"

Frisk nodded and slowly stepped out from behind the bed and Charlotte smiled at seeing the child was wearing the new clothes. "Here, let me take your other clothes and put them in the wash," she said. "You can keep the clothes you have on too. A gift from us."

The child let the young woman take her other outfit and she followed her to a laundry room where the young woman started the wash. "Alright, while that's being taken care of, let's head to the living room. You gave my mate and friend quite a scare when you passed out."

Frisk bit her lip, looking a bit guilty and Charlotte smiled gently, scooping the child up into her arms. "Come on," she said. "And don't feel so guilty. After all that running and almost getting hurt, I would have been surprised if you hadn't passed out."

They went to the living room and Frisk saw a skeleton that had black bones and wore mostly black, but the clothes did have some accents of blue, red, and yellow. He glitched a little, but then looked as if nothing happened. The skeleton looked up and looked relieved to see the child was awake. "Hi," he said, standing up and going over to them. "How-How do you feel, kiddo?"

"A bit better," she said.

He smiled. "Ink and I were wor-worried we wouldn't be able to sa-save you in time," he admitted.

Frisk looked worried. "Are you okay?" She asked.

He chuckled. "I'm okay," he said. "I tend-tend to glitch at times." He smiled again. "I'm Error!Sans, but you can call-call me Error."

She blinked. "Error?"

He nodded and the other skeleton Frisk had seen came out and he smiled. "Oh, good, she's awake," he said, sounding relieved.

Frisk noticed the new Sans' eyes were different, one being a blue disk and the other being a yellow star. He smiled at her. "Hey, Frisk," he said. "I'm Ink!Sans, or Ink for short."

Charlotte smiled. "Ink is my mate and Error is our good friend," she said. "He was actually the one to sense you were in trouble."

"How?" Frisk asked.

"I can tell-tell when something's not going right," Error replied before looking curious. "By the way...what-what did you do to Aftertale? It's change-changed."

She looked nervous and felt a gentle hand on her shoulder, looking to see Ink was responsible for it. "You're not in trouble, Frisk," he said. "We just want to know what happened before Error and I pulled you out of there."

The child took a deep breath. "I met a Gaster named Refract," she said, looking at the three adults. "He gave me a special power, one that can heal AUs."

Charlotte blinked. "Heal the AUs?" She asked curiously.

"Yeah. So that everyone can have their happy ending."

The two skeletons were stunned. "How did you meet Refract?" Ink asked.

"He came to my house one night," she said. "He did scare me a little, but he was nice to me."

Error looked at Charlotte. "Where-Where is Refract from?" He asked.

"Refract," she repeated before falling into thought and then shrugging. "I don't recall any of the AUs having a Gaster by that nickname."

Frisk perked up as she remembered something. "He said he was from OceanPatch," she said.

Ink looked up in surprise. "OceanPatch?" He asked.

Charlotte's eyes widened. "Isn't that the AU guarded by another skeleton?" She asked. "And it's protected by her magic?"

"Yes," Error said with a nod. "But...I don't think-think it's as develop-developed of an AU like the others."

"Could that be why Refract gave Frisk her powers?" Ink asked.

"Maybe," Charlotte said.

Frisk looked at them all. "I want to save all the AUs," she said. "And I want to fix my own timeline. Reunite the royal children with Mom and Dad."

The three looked grim. "Frisk, some thing-thing's can't be changed," Error said gently.

"But I can at least try," she said determinedly. "I want everyone to be happy, not just in my timeline, but in all the AUs. Everyone deserves peace and a chance to heal." She looked at them seriously. "A lot of people got hurt in the war, not just humans. I want to help them all."

Noting how the child used the word 'people' to describe the monsters, the two skeletons smiled. "Stubborn," Error said, but he seemed proud that she was.

"Goes along with her determination," Ink said, chuckling.

Charlotte smiled before looking curious. "How did you get to Aftertale in the first place?" She asked the child.

"Uncle Sans and Uncle Gaster created a portal to it, but just as I was going to go back through after healing Aftertale, Refract appeared and then that scary fire person appeared. He looked like Uncle Grillby, but was red, unlike any color red I've seen. Refract called him Volcano," Frisk said. "He tried to attack me, but Refract protected me and I ran, but then Volcano threw that huge fireball at me and I fell down before feeling Ink and Error grab me and pull me to here."

"But if Volcano was-was from the same AU as Refract, why-why did he attack you?" Error asked.

"He said I would misuse my powers, but I won't," the child said. "I promised Uncle Sans and Uncle Gaster I wouldn't misuse it. I even promised Refract."

Ink was quiet. "I'm going to look more into OceanPatch and see if I can get some answers," he said after a bit. "Why would Volcano be afraid of Frisk not using her powers to help?"

"Maybe he's seen it happen before?" Charlotte suggested.

"Or...he's afr-afraid the power will corrupt her," Error said.

"I won't let it do that," Frisk said firmly.

The dark skeleton looked at her and sighed. "Frisk," he said gently. "If you feel-feel the power is getting out-out of control, tell us immedi-immediately." He paused. "You're strong, but...the power-power could suddenly become too much to handle."

She saw what he was saying. "Okay," she said with a nod.

Ink nodded. "You guys stay here while I go get answers," he said.

"Be careful, my love," Charlotte said.

"I will, my artist," he said, giving her a quick, but loving kiss before he headed out.

Error smiled. "Hey, let's watch-watch a movie," he said. "I make a mean bowl of popcorn."

"That you do," Charlotte said, smiling and looking at Frisk. "What do you think, Frisk?"

The child nodded. "Yes, please," she said.

The three were soon watching a movie that made them all smile as they waited for Ink's return.
