Chapter 6
Frisk stirred as she smell something delicious and opened her eyes. Error, who was beside her, looked relieved that she woke up. "Hi, kiddo," he said. "How are you feel-feeling?"
"I'm still kind of tired," she admitted.
He nodded. "Use-Using a lot of magic at once can make one tire-tired," he said. "You hungry? Char-Charlotte made fried chicken."
The child's stomach growled and she nodded. Ink came in and he sighed in relief. "Oh, thank goodness," he said. "Frisk, I'm so sorry, kiddo. I should have had you rest after you healed Glitchtale."
"It's okay, Ink," she said before she looked worried. "Are they okay? Did it work?"
"It did," Error said with a smile. "Glitch-Glitchtale is safe and Amber and Bet-Betty survived and didn't go down the path they origin-originally did."
"You did it, sweetie," Charlotte said as she came in the living room, smiling. "Red and Edge send their thanks."
Frisk smiled before going to sit up and wincing as she felt weak. "Whoa there," Ink said, catching her and helping her to sit up while Error put some pillows behind her so that she was comfortable. "You're going to have to take it easy for a couple days, kiddo."
"But there are other AUs that need my help," she protested.
"And you'll help them, but not when you're drained of your energy," Charlotte said gently.
"You see, Frisk, just like mon-monsters, your magic is str-strong when you have enough ener-energy," Error explained. "But each time you use it, your ener-energy gets low. Think of it like if you ran a lo-long race. How would you feel after-afterwards?"
"Really tired," she admitted.
Error nodded. "Your new ma-magic works the same way," he said. "You can't use it when you're exhaust-exhausted."
"He's right," Ink said. "If you use too much of it all at once, it'll wear you down."
Frisk had a flashback of when she had seen her uncle Grillby use his powers so much dealing with some rude customers that he was exhausted by the end of the day and Sans and Frisk had helped him to the skeleton brothers' house, Sans insisting Grillby stay with them until the next day. "But...I'll be fine once I'm well rested, right?"
"Yes," Charlotte said with a smile.
"So, you're going to rest for the next couple of days before we go to the next AU," Ink promised. "And from now own, you only heal one AU at a time."
She nodded before her stomach growled again. "We got a growl-growler," Error said playfully as he wiggled his fingers into Frisk's stomach, making her laugh and playfully push his hand away.
"Alright then, it's time for dinner and a movie," Charlotte said. "My love, can you get the television ready for the movie?"
"Will do, my lovely author," he said, getting everything set up while Error brought in a rolling tray similar to the ones used in hospitals while Charlotte brought out the plates filled with fried chicken, steamed carrots, mashed potatoes, and biscuits. Frisk's mouth watered at seeing the delicious food and Error brought her some water.
Ink brought out the movie choices and everyone was soon watching an action adventure movie, enjoying it as they ate. Frisk ate every bite on her plate before feeling tired and adjusted herself so that she was laying down, still watching the movie, but a few moments later, she closed her eyes, unable to fight the call of sleep.
The movie ended and the other three got up and stretched. "Did you enjoy the movie, Frisk?" Error asked.
No answer came from the girl and they turned to see the child had fallen asleep. "She might have missed part of the movie," Ink said softly.
"We can watch it again another time," Charlotte said as she went up and gently lifted the child up into her arms. "I'll get her to bed."
"I'll do the dish-dishes," Error said.
"And I'll clean up in here," Ink said with a nod.
The author carried the child to the bedroom she had first woken up in, tucking the blanket around the girl gently. Frisk stirred a little, but Charlotte brushed a hand over her head. "Shh," she said softly. "Sweet dreams, Frisk."
She went out to the living room to find it cleaned up and Error had just finished the dishes. All three headed to bed not long after.
When Charlotte woke up, she noticed Ink wasn't in bed and got up, getting dressed and going to check on Error and Frisk. Both were still asleep and she went to make some warm drinks. Ink appeared a moment later and he looked grim. "What is it, my love?" The young woman asked.
"I just talked to Red," he said. "He...He couldn't get a message to the Classic Timeline. He couldn't even go there with the machine."
Charlotte felt horror fill her. "Are you saying...that the Classic Timeline is completely cut off?" She asked. "No one can access it or visit it, not even the alternate Sanses like you?"
Ink shook his head. "I checked Aftertale to be sure too and Geno told me the same thing," he said.
"So...that means...only Volcano can access the Classic Timeline, seeing as he put the spell on the door?"
"It looks like it," the painter skeleton said sadly.
"Oh, the monsters there must be going out of their minds with worry," Charlotte said. "And we can't even send a message telling them that Frisk is safe."
Ink nodded. "I...I don't even know how I'm going to tell Frisk this," he said.
"Tell me what?" Came a tired voice and they turned to see Error standing there and he was carrying Frisk in his arms. The darker skeleton saw his friends' faces and knew it wasn't good news.
"What happened?" He asked.
The painter skeleton sighed and looked at Frisk. "Frisk," he said. "This isn't easy for me to tell you, but...when Volcano put the fire spell on the door to your timeline, he basically cut off the Classic Timeline from everyone."
"Meaning that not even the alternate Sanses or other monsters can go to the Classic Timeline to tell your family that you're safe," Charlotte said.
Error looked horrified. "But...if cut off for too lon-long...it could van-vanish," he said.
Ink nodded. "Which means...all the AUs and everyone in them...would vanish too," he said.
"Because the Classic Timeline is the root of it all," Charlotte said.
Frisk looked ready to cry. "I could lose my family?" She asked, tears in her eyes.
Ink sighed. "If we don't find a way to stop Volcano and break that spell...then yes. Everyone will be lost."
Charlotte began thinking before it hit her. "Wait, if Volcano could do a spell to keep people out of the Classic Timeline, is it possible we can have someone else cast a similar spell, only one that will keep Volcano from visiting the healed AUs, but give us an escape route should we need it?" She asked.
"She's got a po-point," Error said.
Ink nodded. "That could work, but we'd at least need another Grillby or two," he said.
"Maybe if I heal their AUs, they'll be more willing to help us?" Frisk asked.
"We're going to need them to agree sooner than that," Charlotte said before grinning and standing up. "And I think I know which two fire monsters will be willing to help us."
"Who, my love?" Ink asked.
"Lullaby Tale and PreciousTale."
Is Charlotte right? Will Lullaby!Grillby and Precious!Grillby be willing to help out? We shall see. :)
