Chapter 7
Charlotte quickly finished her coffee and gave Ink a quick kiss on the mouth. "I'll be back soon, my love," she said to him.
"Okay, my author," he said, smiling at her lovingly
"Be care-careful out there," Error said to her.
"I will, Error," she said, hugging him. She then ruffled Frisk's hair. "You rest up, kiddo."
"I can go with you," Frisk offered.
Charlotte smiled. "And try to heal their AUs, despite us saying you need to rest today?" She asked gently.
Frisk blushed at being caught and the author chuckled. "Sweetie, I admire that you want to help out now that you have the power to, but you need to rest today before tackling on the task to heal another AU," the young woman said, hugging the girl. "We just don't want you to overexert yourself, okay?"
Frisk nodded. "Okay," she agreed. "But what if they don't agree to help us?"
"Then I'll have to ask the others in the other AUs," Charlotte said.
"Don't wor-worry, Frisk," Error said with a smile. "I got a feel-feeling that Precious-PreciousTale Grillby and Lull-Lullaby Tale Grillby will help us."
Charlotte headed out then, walking past the doors to the other AUs and hoping Volcano hadn't done anything destructive to them. She didn't want these AUs to fall victim to the spell Volcano had placed on the Classic Timeline. She gazed back to see the door, still locked with the fiery chains and she sighed before determination filled her and she continued on her way, finding the door to PreciousTale first and entering it.
She looked around and it wasn't long before she found the Frisk of the timeline. She was giggling as a small Gaster Blaster nuzzled her face and she was sitting with the Mettaton and Grillby of the timeline too. Charlotte slowly approached, gently clearing her throat.
Mettaton looked up and stood up, immediately stepping over so that Frisk was behind him and he looked at Charlotte warily. "What brings you here, stranger?" He asked, internally tuning himself up to use his hypnotic singing.
"Hello," the author said with a smile. "I'm not here to cause trouble. I actually need to speak to him." She gestured to Grillby, who was holding Frisk protectively.
"Who are you?" Grillby asked.
"My name is Charlotte. I'm an author," she explained. "I'm also Ink's mate."
"Ink? The Protector?" Mettaton asked.
"The same one," Charlotte said.
"Why do you need to speak to me?" Grillby asked, curious now.
"Because the alternate timelines are in danger," she said. "An alternate version of you is after an alternate version of your niece, one who was recently given the powers to heal the AUs. But not only that, the alternate version of you has put a strong spell and fiery chains on the door leading to the Classic Timeline."
Mettaton's eyes widened. "The alternate version of our niece," he said. "It's the Frisk from the Classic Timeline, isn't it?"
"Yes," Charlotte said.
"And she's been cut off from her way home?" Grillby asked.
"Yes," the author said. "The version of you is named Volcano and he's from the OceanPatch timeline. Due to unfortunate experiences, he feels no humans can be trusted and he is afraid Frisk will misuse her new powers, which is why he's after her."
"Is she at least safe?" Came a new voice and Charlotte turned to see the timeline's Sans, better known as Prance, come up to them.
"Yes," she replied. "My mate and our friend were able to grab Classic Frisk and pull her into the Doodlesphere in time. She's resting now after healing the Glitchtale and Underfell AUs."
Prance nodded. "I heard about the kid doing that," he said. "But if the Classic Timeline has been cut off from the rest of us...?"
"Then we don't have much time before it vanishes," Charlotte said grimly. "And if it vanishes, so does all the other AUs."
Frisk clung to her uncle Grillby, who hugged her soothingly. "Don't worry, Frisk, you won't lose us," he promised.
The author looked at him. "PreciousTale Grillby, will you help us?" She asked.
"What do you need my help with?"
"I was hoping you and another Grillby could use a similar spell to protect the AUs that have been healed from Volcano and give us a safe haven should our home in the Doodlesphere come under attack."
He nodded, handing Frisk to Prance before standing up straighter. "I will help you," he said. "And luckily, I do know a protection spell that can work."
Charlotte was relieved that he agreed to help. "Thank you," she said.
Frisk hugged her uncle. "Be careful, Uncle Grillby," she said.
"I will, little one," he said before wishing his friends to stay safe as he followed Charlotte through the portal to the Doodlesphere. She smiled.
"We've got to visit one more place," she said, going over to the portal to Lullaby Tale and going in with him following her.
They soon found Lullaby Grillby and when he heard Charlotte's idea along with how the alternate universes needed help, he agreed at once, asking the Undyne and Alphys of his world to watch over his store. They agreed as after Lullaby Frisk hugged her uncle, Caramel and Chewy came up to Charlotte. "So there's no way to reach the Classic Timeline?" The former asked the author.
"No, unfortunately. Volcano made certain we couldn't go there."
"Cutting a child off from her home," Chewy said, shaking his head. "That's as bad as when our Frisk was first shoved down here."
"Seeing how scared our Frisk was when that happened, I can imagine Classic Frisk must be scared too. The thought of never seeing your family again," Caramel said, shaking his head sadly.
"Which is why we're going to make sure she is able to get home, provided we can get Volcano to see reason," PreciousTale Grillby said.
Lullaby Grillby came up to them. "Alright," he said.
Charlotte took a deep breath, thankful that he was willing to help out too. "Come on," she said, leading them to the Doodlesphere again.
The two Grillbys worked together to create protective spells over the portals to Aftertale, Glitchtale, and Underfell. "She's healing the AUs who have been through so much," PreciousTale Grillby said.
"I haven't met her yet, but I'm already feeling protective of Classic Frisk," Lullaby Grillby admitted.
The three made it to Ink's home and entered. The artist skeleton hugged his mate while Error brought Frisk over. As soon as the two Grillbys saw Frisk, they immediately didn't regret their decision to help out. "You look so much like my niece, little one," PreciousTale Grillby said, smiling as he ruffled her hair.
"And my niece as well," Lullaby Grillby said, seeing Classic Frisk was rather shy. "It's alright, little one. We don't bite."
Ink smiled. "Thank you both for agreeing to help," he said.
"When we heard it was to help a kid, we wanted to help," PreciousTale Grillby said.
"I just hope we can get our alternate self to listen to reason," Lullaby Grillby said.
"Easy-Easier said than done, sad-sadly," Error said.
"We'll find a way," Charlotte said. "For now, I'll start making dinner for everyone and then tomorrow, Frisk will be well rested enough to go heal another AU."
"Which one?" Frisk asked curiously.
"You can take your pick, kiddo," Ink said. "Just remember, one AU at a time."
"They'll get heal-healed soon enough," Error said.
"And with us helping, the alternate timelines will be safe," PreciousTale Grillby said.
"We may even have a way to get past the chains and spell that Volcano set up," Lullaby Grillby said.
"Let us know if you do, please," Charlotte said. "That way, we can tell the monsters of the Classic Timeline that their Frisk is safe."
The two fire monsters nodded and PreciousTale Grillby picked up Classic Frisk in his arms, smiling at her and rubbing her head gently. "You're very brave, little one," he said. "I have no doubt your family is proud of you."
Lullaby Grillby nodded. "We'll get that spell and those chains off the door to your world somehow," he promised. "You will be able to go back to your family, kiddo. I promise."
Frisk smiled and hugged the two gratefully as they comforted her, giving her hope that the plan would work.
Precious!Grillby and Lullaby!Grillby both have soft spots for kids, which was why they agreed to Charlotte's request so quickly, especially when hearing it involved a child that was the alternate version of their nieces, who they are protective of. :)
