The red gargoyle known as Brooklyn was gliding around New York on his own this night. He didn't go out on his own very often due to the Quarrymen being out all the time hunting his kind, but he had felt the need was urgent to just get out of the castle to clear his head.

Brooklyn was the clan's Second in Command, but he found little pleasure in having this title as it didn't do him much good lately. Goliath had been on his case about some mistakes he had been making, but he was also tired of seeing Broadway and Angela's lovey-dovey behavior too. He desired Angela for himself but he wouldn't betray their trust in him that way. All he could hope for was finding the right female when he found her. He hoped for a gargoyle mate, but with them not being so common, he might be willing to be with a human woman too, like Goliath with Elisa; but that was slim to none as most humans were afraid to death of him with his appearance, that resembled a devil creature, but he was nothing of the sort.

The red male had told his little green brother Lexington while he been working on some science gizmo that he had to get out to clear his head. He would be back before dawn. "Ok, Brooklyn, just be careful." Lex said, going on working.

Brook didn't know if Lex had heard him. He assumed he had, so he had taken off.

Broadway and Angela were out on a date. Goliath, Hudson, and Bronx were out patrolling together tonight, so most of the clan wouldn't know he was gone. He just planned to be back at sunrise. He was good about that usually.

Brooklyn had by now made it to the far side of Manhattan, just thinking about how his life was currently. He wished he knew how to change things. He was also just looking out for trouble on the streets too, but it seemed rather quiet tonight, or just on the side of Manhattan that he was on.

"What does it take to get some action in this big city?" Brooklyn asked himself aloud.

Unknown to him, there were some others wanting a gargoyle to experiment on too, if not several. Watching through night vision goggles, there was a man who saw him. "Perfect. One that is alone. He'll do." The masked man said smugly. "Get ready to move in." He said into his radio.

The man didn't know where the gargoyle would land. He was coming this way, so he had to act fast. He took aim at the passing gargoyle.

Brooklyn had no idea he was being watched. But he didn't sense the flying dart that suddenly came out of nowhere and landed in his left thigh. "AGH!" He cried out in pain.

He looked down and saw something sticking out of his leg while grasping it. He knew he had to land before he started falling. Luckily, he wasn't too far from a roof landing. He flapped his wings to land on the rooftop before he got a look at the thing in his leg. It was a dart.

"What the?" He questioned, but then his vision began to get blurry. This wasn't good. He couldn't let himself get captured. But he was in no condition to glide now until he knew he had to sleep this off. He hoped he was in a safe enough place to wait it out.

Brooklyn tried to fight the drug. He started going down. "Ugh, must- stay- awake..." He tried pulling himself toward a wall. His leg was now going numb on him.

There were some footsteps being heard. "Oh, but I'm afraid you'll need to take a little nap first." He heard an unfamiliar voice.

Brooklyn turned, panting. "No, stay... away..." But then he fell onto his right side, out cold as his consciousness gave out.

The human men came upon the red gargoyle and took off their masks. "It's the red one." One of the men declared.

"Good. He was the most exotic looking of them all. He'll do perfectly for my new experiment." The lead man smiled. "Bring him."

The strongest man picked up the gargoyle off the roof and pulled the dart out of his thigh too. There was a little droplet of blood but nothing serious. He was taken to the street and put into a transport van. Brook's hands, legs, tail, and wings were secured in metal restraints. Then it took off for its hideout.

...

A little while later, the truck pulled into a big facility building. A gurney was waiting for them to put their quarry onto it. Brooklyn was still out of it. He had been given another dose on the trip to keep him out longer, possibly the rest of the night. He had started to wake up once on the way there, but the men couldn't have that.

The man leading this observation and capture was one of the Illuminati. He had been intrigued with the red gargoyle and had permission to do this experiment.

It was still only the middle of the night. There was time to get what they needed before he turned to stone in the morning.

"Are you sure you want to make another one of these monsters, Boss?" One of the men asked.

"I want to study one from beginning to end. And if they can be crossed with a human the way they are so much like us." The lead doctor replied. "Is the other half ready to go?"

"It's ready." One of the scientists stated. "Now we just need the gargoyle's DNA to get it started."

Brooklyn's wings were untied so he could be placed prone on his back. His limbs were all undone too, only to be tied down in metal cuffs on the gurney. The lead man was already eyeing his target on the body, but first, he needed something else.

Tissue and blood were taken from the red male for analysis. But for the final part, they needed some of DNA that made real offspring. The belt was undone and pulled down just enough to see the parts.

"Impressive. Looks much like ours." The doctor decreed. "Now just get some without all the mumbo."

One of the other doctors took a syringe needle and poked the needle into one of the testes and sucked up some sperm. He then took it out. Then the loincloth was pulled back over to cover the parts. But the lead doctor still needed the belly exposed fully.

"How are his vitals?" He asked.

"He seems to be fine. They're stable." Another replied.

"Now, I need his belly examined in order for this to work too."

Brooklyn was placed under an MRI machine, and it was a slow process of getting a picture of his digestive organs. As it was observed carefully, the doc was impressed that it seemed much like a human's system too.

"This is quite impressive." The doc stated smugly. "This is perfect."

"So, when do we go inside him?" Another asked.

"Tomorrow night, first thing. He might have eaten earlier, and we need the stomach empty. Is the device ready for implantation?"

"Yes."

"Good."

On another side of the lab, Brooklyn's sperm was analyzed, and it looked good.

"How are the swimmers doin'?"

"They look good. Should be worth doing this experiment with." The tech replied.

"Are the eggs ready?"

"How many do you want to use?"

"Two, in case one doesn't make it. I want to get these fertilized for implantation straight away tomorrow night." The doctor ordered.

"Understood, sir."

Next, some DNA was taken out of two different eggs, leaving only a fraction of original DNA, then Brooklyn's sperm was added to two of them. They deemed the fertilization done. Then it was time to put them into the device that would keep them safe inside their host. By the time it was all done, it was close to sunrise.

When the sun came up, Brooklyn turned to stone in front of them.

"Rest well, Red. Tomorrow night will be life changing for you." The doctor said.

"Are we going to cage him at some point?" A tech asked.

"Yes, once we get this part done on him."

"Are you sure it'll work? This isn't natural." Another spoke up.

"That's why we are going to try this experiment. When there are no females about, there must be a different way of gaining what we want. Besides, I found this one worth studying." The doc explained.

"How long do you desire to keep him?"

"Until it is time for the birth."

"And after?"

"After that, we won't need him anymore. I'm sure he'll be throwing insults and trying to attack us a lot, which we will keep him chained or restrained. But I want to study human/gargoyle crossbreeds, to see if it can be done. The offspring will be told that their parents abandoned them because they weren't wanted." The doc told his plan to his team. They all agreed.

"And what if this experiment kills him before it's time?"

"I'm sure it won't. This will be well planned out. And he has to have hormones given to him beginning tomorrow night. He must be fed nightly. And no caffeinated drinks. Just water." The doc ordered of his diet plans for the gargoyle.

"Do you think he'll have any stomach pains?"

"No more than usual, but we'll cross that when we come to it. I also want shocks on his wrists under the cuffs. He has to have punishments if he doesn't cooperate." Doc declared. "But he will need prenatal vitamins too. We'll make sure he takes them. And to have gentle foods standing by for the beginning fazes."

The team was ready to follow their boss's orders.

...

At the castle, the clan had all come out for their morning ritual of greeting the sun, but one of them was missing.

"Has anyone seen Brooklyn?" Goliath asked.

"Not since breakfast." Broadway replied.

"I heard him come in and tell me he was going out. I was kinda busy working on my toy for Alex." Lex replied.

"Do you know where he went?" Goliath asked.

"No." Lex said.

"He'll likely be back tomorrow night." Hudson declared. "The lad does seem to be feeling down lately."

"Be that as it may, he shouldn't go off alone right now. I'll have to give him a talk when he comes back tomorrow." Goliath grumped that his Second in Command hadn't stayed in like he would have wanted him to with all the dangers from the humans out there.

The clan got in their spots and greeted the dawn in their favorite poses. But little did they know that it would be a little while before they saw him again, or that he wouldn't come back the same.
