When the others went to go find Brooklyn later after their discussion that they weren't going to make him get an abortion even though some of them were just worried how it would play out, they were just worried about him. But there was a problem, Brooklyn had already gone.
"Where could he be?" Hudson asked.
"He might have overheard us talking and hid from us or took off." Elisa stated.
"We must find him and tell him that he needs to stay here for his own safety, and we will just watch how the pregnancy plays out. If his life is in danger, he might have to end it." Goliath spoke in concern.
"We have to find the lad first." Hudson declared.
"Agreed." Goliath said and the other nodded as well. "Split up and look." He decreed.
The clan had begun looking for their red Second in Command, but it wasn't easy to spot him. He had run away once before one time, but this time, he was doing it to protect his unborn embryos. He should have waited longer to tell them. But he thought his clan would still push for a stupid abortion.
Brooklyn kept a wary eye to the sky at night to make sure he wasn't spotted by any of his clan members. "Of all things they could have done, why would them make me choose this?" His eyes filled with tears. "I won't let anyone harm you two." He rubbed his belly.
...
In the coming weeks, Brooklyn was good at staying hidden from his clan and the humans. He would still protect some humans, but at the risk of something happening, there was many a time when he had to let crimes go on.
Brooklyn broke into office buildings late at night to fill up some water bottles or he would get into gas stations where there was juice and milk that he would also get to drink. He had a bag loaded with his needed supplies. He needed the drinks not just for hydration but also for taking his hormone supplements. When his prenatal vitamins ran low, he would break into grocery stores in the early morning hours to get them.
The red male hated living a life on the run but what choice did he have right now?
He stole food from grocery stores and stands, like those of pretzels and hot dogs. He found abandoned buildings to sleep in, or high rooftops during the day. He reluctantly hid himself in abandoned basements. He was doing a good job of it. There were even some buildings that had TVs in the basement too and he could watch some tv to pass the time, but he always had to go out every night to score some food and drinks at one point. He tried not to go to the same place twice. Brooklyn wished he could have some help to get the supplies he needed to help take care of himself and the babies.
Maybe in a while, he would head to one of their human allies. He wouldn't stay out here all during his pregnancy. Eventually, he needed go see Dr. Sato at his office to have a new exam on the babies to see how they were doing. Brooklyn hoped he wasn't stressing them too much. He was just doing what he had to do to save them.
...
As the weeks progressed, Brooklyn's stomach began to start showing a small bump in it. It made Brooklyn's heart melt all the more. He had to loosen his belt more or try to get his belt under the bump so it wouldn't put pressure on the bump.
There were times he wasn't eating the healthiest foods, but he had to eat something nearly every night to make sure he and the babies were getting the food they needed. He still had morning sickness issues, but it started to wane as he got further along.
Brooklyn felt extremely lonely without his clan being there for him. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore and he went to gliding over the city. He had his supplies with him, and he saw a certain house near a beach, and he remembered that it was Hudson's friend. His blind friend. This could work since he wouldn't be able to see him.
He went down onto the beach and approached the house. It certainly was big enough. Brooklyn took a deep breath and knocked on the door, instantly hearing some dog barking. It almost reminded him of Bronx. He missed the gar dog.
The door opened up, revealing a German Shepherd. "Who's there? I must apologize for my dog." Robbins, Hudson's friend, said.
"Uh, hi, Robbins, was it? I'm Brooklyn, a friend of Hudson's." Brook introduced himself.
"Oh, hello. I remember your voice, young one. Is Hudson with you?" Robbins asked.
"No. I'm here on my own. But I need to ask if Hudson or the others ever came by looking for me here?" Brook asked.
"Yes, Hudson came by once and told me you were lost or ran away. Are you alright?" Robbins asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, but I had to run away for a good reason. They were going to make me do something awful and I can't let them hurt me." Brook explained.
"I doubt your clan would want to hurt you. They would only want what's best for you." Robbins stated. "Hudson said they were worried about you and wanted you to come home."
"I would love to go home but I won't let them make a certain decision for me that I don't agree with." Brooklyn decreed. "I'm old enough to make my own decisions."
"You certainly sound like you are, Brooklyn. How long have you been on your own?" Robbins stated.
"A few weeks now. I can't go home until a certain time period is up. I really need a safe place to stay. Staying in abandoned buildings isn't cutting it anymore. Would I be able to stay here? Your house looks like it has a lot of room." Brooklyn said.
"Of course. I have quite a few spare rooms." Robbins declared.
"Does anyone else live here?"
"My driver. I can't drive." Robbins replied.
"Yeah, I understand. Does he know about gargoyles?"
"Yes. He one time met Hudson and they were introduced. He was afraid at first but found that Hudson was an upbeat person." Robbins explained.
"So, he wouldn't be afraid of me then?"
"It might depend on how you look, but more on how you act around him." Robbins declared.
"Well, of all my clan, most humans would think I have the look of a demon." Brook stated. "But I try to treat any decent human with respect as long as they respect me."
"That speaks volumes to me, Brooklyn. You can stay, but if your clan shows up, you should talk to them." Robbins coaxed.
"That's just it, I can't right now. I can't let them find me, Robbins. I will need some certain foods and such while I stay here." Brooklyn explained.
"Alright. Like what?"
"My biology might say I like to eat meat, but for some reason, I just can't have poultry. Chicken especially. And I usually love chicken. But fruits and vegetables will suffice. And bread. Sweets are okay too." Brooklyn explained.
"You must have quite a picky appetite."
"Usually I don't, but my condition makes it be this way. I also might need to see a doctor soon too because of it. Don't worry. I'm not in any danger. It's just something temporary."
"What is this condition, may I ask?" Robbins asked. "I'm pretty open-minded about many things. Maybe I might know something about it."
"Aside from a doctor, no one can help me besides getting food for me or defending me. You see, I have the same condition that usually only happens to females. An experiment was done on me and some scientists managed to- get me pregnant." Brooklyn explained.
Robbins was silent for many moments, obviously from shock.
"I have proof, Sir. I'm not usually fat by any means, but my stomach is getting rounder. My last doctor's visit had confirmed it, and I haven't seen my doctor since." Brook explained. "It was because of being pregnant why I had to run away from home. My clan was going to make me get an abortion. I wasn't going to let them do that."
Robbins finally came to his senses. "Well, it must be scary to have that happen to you. But why did your clan want you to have an abortion?"
"Just because it's not normal and risky, considering I'm carrying twins, I found out."
"Well, having more than one baby at a time is always risky. Even with single babies. I think they were just concerned." Robbins tried to clarify it to the red male.
"I get that, but I'm not letting them harm my offspring. I at first thought they would like having new members in our clan, but just because they aren't being born the old-fashioned way, they all have to panic and force me into an abortion." Brooklyn was jumping to conclusions but that was what he had thought he heard. "I heard them all say it before I left."
"That's not right. You can stay here for a while, but it might help if you talk to your clan after a bit." Robbins invited him. "I'll let you stay in one of the spare rooms to be safe."
The blind man began showing Brooklyn around his house and to where there was an empty room. It had a bed in it at least, though Brook liked to sleep standing up.
"I'll leave to let you get settled."
"Wait. Promise me you won't tell my clan that I'm here."
"I won't for a time, but you will have to face them soon, Brooklyn. But may I ask how far along are you in the pregnancy?" Robbins asked.
"I think about fourteen weeks now." Brook replied.
"Long way to go yet, but I hope you get to enjoy this unusual time. Especially when feeling the little ones move inside you."
"Gargoyle babies usually hatch from eggs. Even when I have them in a few months, I don't think I'll get that pleasure, to feel the babies move until hatching time." Brooklyn explained. "That will take ten years."
"But if you don't have the right organs, you might not form an egg around the baby."
"Twins." Brooklyn corrected him.
"Sorry, I didn't know." Robbins said.
"It's okay. And thanks for letting me stay for a while." Brook said.
"Enjoy." Robbins said.
"What's your dog's name?"
"Gilly."
"Nice name for her." Brook said.
He had seen some service dogs on tv, but he was actually seeing it for real here. Robbins had great integrity and hospitality. Brook had no idea how long he would stay here, but hopefully a while. He didn't want to have to keep stealing and such just to have food for himself and his babies.
Brooklyn planned to at least go home when the twins were born so the clan could see they weren't mistakes. Then they would see they were miracles, not curses.
For those of you that like Hudson's friend, Robbins, and a bit of Gilly too, you get to enjoy them for a few chapters. This is the first time that I am putting him in a story as a major character.
