Blowing Kisses in the Wind—Paula Abdul
"Shh," I say, tamping down the urge to giggle. "Don't wake my mom."
"I thought she wouldn't care?" Mase whispers, teasing me.
"She wouldn't, but that doesn't mean I want her all up in my business," I reply, taking his hand and pulling him up the steps.
The fifth stair creaks, and I freeze, listening for movement from my mom's room. When all stays quiet, I continue dragging him along until we're in my room with the door shut behind us.
I let out a sigh of relief, and he presses me against the wood. "Alone at last." His lips go to my throat, and a shudder moves through me. "I thought that shindig would never end."
I huff a quiet laugh. "Just because we left, it doesn't mean the party is over."
"I like it better here." He links his fingers with mine and drags me across the room. The moonlight streaming through the window provides just enough light to see where we're going. "Can I sit?"
I flop onto my bed, dragging him down beside me. "You can do more than sit."
His chuckle is deep and husky. "How much more?"
I hold up my thumb and forefinger. "Just a smidge."
"I'll take it," he says as his lips descend.
We tangle together all lips and limbs on my bed. Quiet whisperings and even quieter laughter follows after we hear my mom moving around as she gets ready for work. It isn't until her station wagon pulls out of the driveway that I get up and turn on the lights.
"Want some breakfast?" I eye Mase.
He's laid back on my bed, hands behind his head, and his shirt has ridden up just enough that I can see a sliver of his toned abs. He does this cute grin that makes me smile every time before he shuffles off the bed and follows me down the stairs.
"Have a seat at the bar," I say as I switch on the radio. Paula Abdul is singing one of her ballads, and I turn the volume down just enough that we can still chat and listen. "What do you like?" I grab a carton of eggs and an already open package of bacon from the fridge. "This or French toast?"
"Nothing to do with the French," he jokes, winking.
"Bacon and eggs it is." I set the stuff on the bar and dig out a frying pan. "Toast too, or are you good without carbs?"
"Whatever takes you longer," he says from behind me. "I quite like the view from here."
I'm wearing a short pair of jean shorts and a tank, since I haven't changed from the party yet, and his compliment causes my cheeks to flush. I add a little extra sway to my hips as I work at the stove, frying up the bacon.
"When are you planning to go back to London?" I ask as I pull several slices from the pan. "Alice couldn't remember."
"You asked about me?" He's all cute and teasing, and maybe even a little bit shy.
I grin to myself. "Maybe."
"First week of September," he finally says, sighing. "Seems like it won't be enough time."
"For?" I don't know why I'm egging him on.
The expiration date is solid.
"With you." The declaration is low and soft.
"I leave for college at the end of August." I turn with the plate of bacon in my hand. "But it's still July."
He finds the salty meat way too interesting. "It isn't gonna be much longer before that ginger bloke comes to his senses and sweeps you off your feet."
"Edward," I say, propping my elbows on the bar. "His name is Edward, and he's here for the summer with his girlfriend from college."
"That wish-she-was-as-hot-as-you bird that was clinging to him all night?"
I snort, rolling my eyes. "Well, when you put it like that…" I trail off into a laugh. "But seriously, we're both happy with where we are." I come around the bar, splaying my palm on his chest. "He has Bree, and I've somehow landed the hottest thing to hit Forks since… "
Ugh.
Edward the junior.
Damn him for always intruding.
"In a long time." He pulls me in, and I let him, my lips just out of reach. "Now kiss me like you want to obliterate any thoughts of the ginger bloke."
He releases this gruff, strangled moan before crashing his lips into mine.
Edward who?
Banshee69 has had a rough week, so let's collectively send good thoughts her way, and you can thank her for this chapter (if you're happy you have it lol)
I peeked ahead and there's a shift next week, though the resolution is still a little way off.
See you tmr :)
