He scowled,
"Any half decent person would have saved someone in that situation. Only monsters do such a thing to someone like following them into a bathroom to attack them."
Anya nodded, stepping over the stranger's unconscious body.
"We should tell someone about that, sy-on boy."
He nodded, looking calm as they picked the stranger up to drag him out to the security guard standing at the entrance of the building. His thoughts were racing, and despite Anya's best attempts to resist reading them, she couldn't stop,
I can't believe someone would do something like that to her. I really need to take better care of her.
She kept her face emotionless, trying her hardest so he wouldn't see her reaction. Damian Desmond. Liked her? After everything he'd said to her, all of the names, he liked her?
It made no sense, she thought as they walked back to the testing room.
The test finished, and despite her best efforts, she'd fallen asleep again during the test, but at least this time she'd answered some questions by reading some of the others' minds. She'd thought about reading his mind, but she felt so weird about doing that, especially after what had happened in the morning. She was so grateful that he'd shown up at the right time, she thought as she entered her car, snacking on some peanuts she found in the cupholder.
Anya sat there for a moment, eating and reflecting upon everything that had happened. She decided not to tell mama and papa because they would probably go and kill that sick fuck. He'd been dealt with, and Ostanian authorities did not treat sexual offenders well.
A knock on her tinted car windows made her refocus. Sy-on boy? What did he want? He was acting so much weirder than usual.
"Are you going to answer or not, Anya? I know you're in there."
She rolled down her window,
"What do you want?"
He scoffed with his two friends, Ewen and Emile.
"Our car broke down, stubby legs," Ewen chortled and Emile laughed as Damian stared silently. Anya rolled her eyes at the ridiculous sight. She wasn't even that short anymore; she was even taller than mama now.
Damian punched Ewen's arm,
"Do you want her to help us or not, you idiot?"
Ewen and Emile nodded quickly as Anya raised an eyebrow,
"Don't you have some chauffeur that can come drive you?"
Damian stammered nervously,
"I told him to take a personal day."
Anya sighed as Emile's noisy thoughts came flooding into her mind,
Jeez Boss is really down bad for uggo. I would have never expected it. He has no tasteā¦
Anya blinked away his thoughts,
"Get in."
The three clambered into the back, as Anya started backing out of the parking spot, narrowly missing the car beside her.
"HEY WATCH IT! DON'T GET US IN AN ACCIDENT!" Damian shouted, almost leaping from his seat. Anya abruptly stopped the car.
"If you don't like how I drive, you can get out of my car and walk home."
Ewen and Emile turned to look at Damien, but he shook his head,
"I'm sorry for getting upset at you," he said, turning his head away.
Anya said nothing, though she knew without reading his mind that his apology was sincere.
The rest of the trip was silent and after she dropped off Ewen and Emile, only she and Damian were left in the car.
"I'm really sorry for snapping at you earlier," Damian said, breaking the silence between them.
Anya nodded, saying nothing, focusing on the road. Sy-on boy was so weird. Becky was right, guys were really so weird.
"You know, you could have been really popular, if you hadn't punched me that day. Everyone always thought you were really pretty, despite what Ewen and Emile might say."
Anya braked harshly at the red light,
"And? What is the point of worrying about this now?" She turned to face him, regretting her words. She was supposed to be patching things up with him. For the mission, she told herself.
He shook his head,
"I was just saying."
Anya sighed, turning her attention back to the road.
"What?" Damian asked, noticing her exasperation.
"You say you want to be friends, but you then yell at me. You say I'm pretty, but then you let your friends call me ugly. You are warm to me, then cold. Make up your mind. Until then, don't bother talking to me."
She stopped at his house *(though castle would probably have been a better word) and he quickly got out, almost speeding inside. Anya cursed herself aloud inside the car. She had ruined the Friendship Plan, yet again. Papa would not be happy if he heard that she'd had a chance and blew it.
