9. Wasted Step
Somin and Teho
Loud steps woke Somin up. She was still curled into a tired ball in the middle of the slender stairs in the previously abandoned hall.
"Ya, pink hair, move it!" it was that Teho boy. Somin hadn't heard his voice before. Smooth and low, sweet like honey, even with the angry undertones. He didn't even look up from the display of his camera.
"You can just walk around me," she replied quietly, wishing she were invisible.
"I'm not the one sitting in the middle of the stairs," he barked, annoyed. Echoes of the argument with Jitae were still ringing in his head, so he chose to let his frustration out on the convenient stranger in his way.
"I don't have the energy to move," Somin felt a surge of sudden rage. The subtle boiling danger of the girl's voice upset him.
The fuming boy kept standing behind her, tapping his foot on the floor.
The irritating sound resonated through Somin's tired brain, creating a shockwave with each thud.
My head hurts. She thought, still exhausted.
The bothered boy kept nagging, having had his own share of annoyances that day.
"Thud"
"Thud"
"Thud"
Right behind her back, Somin could almost smell the expensive shoe wax.
"Thud"
That was the last straw. It brought her to her feet instantly.
"It's literally just one step!" she raised her voice, facing those protruding eyes head-on. Teho stood just a few centimeters away from her face, solid like a pillar, stubborn and furious himself.
"A step I don't have to make now, when you're up," the boy now calmly answered, intrigued by the situation. He was looking for stress release and didn't plan on running away from another argument.
That's so fucking close. Somin noted, staring at his eye beauty mark up close.
"Give me some space, goddammit!" Somin's voice hitched, dripping with so many emotions.
"Then move." He grinned. "It does apply to you too."
"I'm sorry?" she couldn't believe the sheer audacity he had.
All the stress culminated behind her words and she reached up to bury her small finger into his chest with a power of righteousness, wanting to make him move further away, but he resisted. His dark, intense eyes looked her up and down lazily, giving her an amused smirk.
"You can't boss me around!" she almost screamed.
Smiling smugly, the attractive boy said, "I don't have to."
Slowly, he enveloped her finger in his palm and moved it back to her chest. Then his pretty hands grabbed her waist and moved the fragile girl aside with two simple steps. She complied, in shock of what had just happened, feeling the subtle force behind his hands. His firm grip made her shiver.
Long slim fingers took a strand of her still damp hair and tucked it intimately behind her ear.
"That's better, pink hair," sweetness dripped from his voice as he walked away, leaving Somin there on the stairs, standing in disbelief.
...
Teho's focus was interrupted by the encounter.
Why was she so angry?
No girl would ever yell at me. Come to think about it, no other girl ever gets like that with me.
This startled him.
When she talked back to me with such power it made me want to push her more.
