42. Without Plans
Somin and Mia
Somin woke up and panicked at first, seeing the roundness of the number nine on her cellphone.
Shit, I'll be late.
The realization that it was finally Saturday dawned on her. There was no need to hurry. The tired girl dropped back to her sheets with relief. The whole week passed before her eyes, she hadn't been able to catch her breath at all.
Today I will. She promised herself.
The girl wandered blindly to the kitchen where Mia was already working out on her red mat. Somin's hands made the coffee almost automatically. It felt like her eyes were sewn together, but the muscle memory was well trained from her time in the coffee shop.
Mia was coated in sweat. She sat down and asked, "I'll be going on a shopping spree with the girls from your department later today, would you care to join? There'll be a party later on. I know you said you're not into that, but I wanted to ask you anyway," the dancer was catching her breath and drinking water in the meantime.
"Oh you're sweet Mia, but no. I'll just chill, read or paint," Somin answered.
"Suit yourself," Mia said.
"...but I'd say you shouldn't be working this much during the weekend," she continued playfully.
"Well that's the perk of your hobby being your work too I guess," Somin said a bit sarcastically.
"Alright have fun. On a hungry note though, we're getting brunch in the city, you sure you're not gonna go?" she tried again.
"No, thanks," Somin answered, "I don't wanna ruin your date," automatically assuming she meant with her boyfriend.
"Oh no. 'We' like with the gals, Teho's not going." Mia gestured dismissively.
"Why?" Somin fished for the information.
"Cuz he'll be working too. Which brings me to another question, are you both crazy?" Mia made light of the situation, surprised he had rejected her invitation too.
"He for sure is," Somin sarcastically said.
"As for me, I'm my best companion," the Somin continued, smirking through the coffee steam going upwards.
"He promised to join the party though, you're sure you don't wanna go?" Mia hoped she could sway her roommate's opinion by the presence of a well-known face at least.
Mia was convinced she knew best. In her eyes going out would make Somin feel hundred percent better.
"That's double no for me," Somin rebutted and sat on the sofa, soaking up the apartment.
Mia smiled and made herself busy rushing out to get to the girl date as soon as possible, visibly stoked to be with more people. When the doors shut behind her Somin stood up and brought her portable speaker and phone to listen to her favorite group while relaxing in the flat alone. She amped up the volume and basked in the voices of her beloved idols who proclaimed.
Can't stop the feeling
I'll believe in myself. Somin thought, filled with the calmness of the moment.
Don't stop believin'
I won't. She promised.
We shine like eternal sunshine
And the sun's rays caressed Somin's closed eyes.
Hmm. Am I here alone, really?
Silence.
The quietness calmed her down. I like this dorm.
You're my shining star
The boy sang and she shivered. I want to be somebody's shining star.
