57. Past Challenges
Kang Mia
Mia thought about the failed get-together since Teho let her go back to school. It kept making her concentration in the classes even worse. Her ever-present school girlfriends asked.
"Mia-ssi, don't be so sad," or "What happened?" When they caught her not smiling.
She let the worry go with, "Nothing, there's just too much to do these days," and talked with them lightly while thinking for herself.
Something isn't right with us.
We never had been on a proper date.
Mia barely remembered how those went.
...
She pictured that very angry boy from their elementary school. Donghyun. The very young version of herself came by his desk, facing the challenge like a little warrior. Puberty hit and she started to pick up on this relationship thing, experimenting with it. The so-called baddie was always angry and problematic, causing an uproar in the class.
Would he change because of me?
It turned out, all he needed was a little bit of sweet girly attention.
"Hi Donghyun, would you care to help me with this?" she brought a random problem to solve.
...
I don't even recall what it was.
The whole time she was looking straight into his eyes. The gorgeous teenage girl had him tamed in no time, her beauty was like a weapon.
What beautiful memories.
He would be her first proper kiss.
...
Maybe I'm looking for something else entirely.
Mia wondered as she recalled getting ready for a showcase with her crew while a cheerful blonde made eyes at her, giggling sweetly.
Ara.
She was a chapter on its own.
That one always made her own rules.
Mia recalled her making a mess of things anytime she got the chance.
"Hey Mia-ssi, don't go there. You'll be bored anyway, stay with me, I'll make it worth your while." the small framed girl retorted on the party invitation.
Stubborn devil!
Mia shook her head, laughing at the memory.
Why is Somin reminding me of her? They have a similar vibe, is that why I like her so much?
The blonde girl was a hard worker. Dancing muted Ara's shyness in a way it almost seemed that timidity of hers was staged. The strong and sexy presence the tiny girl exuded was in stark contrast with all of that.
Her short strawberry hair was too soft to the touch, like a satin covering Mia's fingers, when she brushed through it. Small narrow lips were pink and sweet, always smelling like candy.
Jeez, those childish associations killed me.
Mia thought about all the confectionery flavors she had tasted from them. Those kisses were burning and longing and the melancholic dancer closed her eyes in response.
Do I dare to dream about it?
How's Ara nowadays? What would she say about Teho? Would she give her approval?
No, she wouldn't approve, she would curse me for pursuing another boy and we would make... don't think about sad memories Mia.
She scolded herself.
There's no way to bring her back anyway.
Although the Instagram location tag Ara added to her latest post spoke otherwise.
