105. The Case of the Stolen Photograph
Somin, Teho and Jitae
On Friday morning Mia packed her stuff and headed for school alone. She needed to be early in and out to catch her bus in the afternoon. Looking forward to seeing all her girlfriends from her crew and all around just bathe in the simple familiarity of her parents' place. These weeks here were too intense. Her situation around Teho, her care for Somin, head needed to be cleared.
It went alright. A bit awkward, but that will go away. She pepped talked herself.
We'll manage to stay friends. Somin is there with me and she'll help me to go through it. She'll hold us together and guide us both to the friend zone.
The gorgeous dancer hoped. In such a short time she got attached to her roommate and she wasn't a quitter.
At least we got our backs.
This feeling was in contrast with what she feared awaited her with friends back home.
Maybe I will see her again.
Ara's eyes on the back of Mia's head closed.
...
Somin was shuffling to her first collective drawing class after the horrible weekend. Work in a folder, nerves in a gutter. She didn't want other people to look at her highly intimate pictures reflecting her emotions a bit too much.
Don't ask me why are they so dark.
She was walking through the foyer deep in her thoughts, rubbing her wrist where the new scar was itching, when she overheared a commotion to her side.
"...I don't know why someone would steal it?" Teho said to Jitae who was holding a tablet.
He made notes as an authority figure of the department even though he was a couple of months younger than his onyx-haired senior. Jitae loved to have responsibilities and Teho hated to have them just as much.
"Usually no one cares about our semestral exhibit," Jitae said calmly. "Maybe it was one of your admirers". You have to print it again if you want to have it here. I just hope you have the negatives stashed somewhere?" Jitae asked.
Hands crossed on his chest, blonde hair giving him an innocent look, neatly brushed and parted in the middle. But the tone was more sarcastic and amused.
"Sure I have it, why wouldn't I?" Teho answered, agited. "But I don't like this new trend of my photographs disappearing," his smooth voice grew emotional.
I'm so bad. Look at me Cholsu, can't you see how rebellious I am?
Somin laughed out loud even though she wanted to do it just for herself.
"Ya, Somin-ah, what's funny, amuse me?" Teho turned up to her, recognizing her voice instantaneously.
"I can hear your weird ass laugh. Don't you happen to know something about this?" He pointed to an empty spot at his exhibition with subtle anger in his voice, closing up on her with long strides, looking directly into her eyes. A white shirt peeked from behind an old blue jean jacket, yellow stylish glasses hanging on the back of his head.
He's such eye candy. Somin's mind relished in his beauty.
"Ya!" Teho snapped his fingers in front of her, getting her attention more aggressively, being distraught.
"Uhm... what?" She collected herself, "I dunno, you have so many girls around you, can't at least one of them be a freak?" she mocked him.
"Only freak I know is you," he said playfully, his anger subsiding when he spoke to her.
"Seriously, wouldn't you feel bad if someone stole your painting?" The sad tone made her feel guilty.
He's really upset. Somin thought.
"Well, I'd take it as a loving gesture," she teased and looked at her tiny old-fashioned watch with big numbers.
Damn, I don't want to be late again.
"What was that supposed to mean? Somin-ah?" Teho raised his voice while Jitae came to his side again.
"Do you want to send a complaint to the school board?" the blonde asked earnestly.
"No," Teho answered, gazing in the direction of the drawing room, where Somin had left, baffled.
This is the first time someone stole my work and she acted sketchy right from the get-go.
I won't let this one slide.
