Average Job x Spy Days 2 - or "This world of Retired Hitmen and Spies sure is intense!" (Sakamoto Days + Spy x Family Xover SI)

It was around a few days after the Convenience Store owned by Sakamoto Taro got a new worker that things started to get really exciting.

No, it wasn't me as I still had my mailman work, but I could say to an extent even back then that the young man known as Asakura Shin. Despite being a few years younger than me, Shin was actually more experienced as a killer, even more due to his mind-reading abilities he gained through unknown means.

Well, those were 'unknown' until his past tried to pull him back, but at the time it was just a mysterious trait for a 'mediocre' assassin to have as Sakamoto said back then. Said comment drawing no little irritation from the blond, but overall confirming that, while he was competent, he wasn't that active due to his lacking physical capacity compared to others.

Heck, the way they 'reunited' was through a brief skirmish that Sakamoto won with ease. I wasn't around to see it happen, but Sakamoto took care of Shin's employer since he tried to force Shin with the mission of killing Sakamoto.

Why would they kill the tubby man despite him being retired as an assassin? Well, it was more of a 'special kill', the kind of assassination that got you a high rank or something like that.

Still, Shin was there and he had been helping around the store for some time. He was rebuked by Sakamoto when he wanted to check how training was going, and he looked extremely confused about it since he could see both in my mind and Sakamoto's that we weren't doing anything that would warrant secrecy.

Was I missing something from this? I knew even then that it was a high possibility.

Fast-forward to Sakamoto inviting me to join him and Shin going to pick up some pork buns that were sold at a cheap price and… I never visited the local Chinatown at the time. In fact, I didn't know Niikita, being a small city as it was, had a Chinatown.

Not only that, but this Chinatown had quite the anime-like plot coming up right at the corner- or from above as someone suddenly fell onto us. I noticed the approaching shadow first, eyes wide open as I managed to move fast enough to catch the falling figure and… it was a girl.

Red-haired and with her hair combed in a rather peculiar braid, the black-eyed girl didn't exactly move out of my arms as she realized what had just happened. Instead she just stared at me… and squealed.

"That was so cool!"

I felt a sweatdrop forming at that giddy reaction. What's with those people?

Right as she said that, three thugs appeared and moved to attack the girl. She jumped off and took a battle-stance, pushing a bald guy and then decking another on the face. She still was a bit sloppy, perhaps winded by a prolonged fight before her fall and the bald one she punched away got up and held her up.

"Finally we caught you, you little ra-"

Sakamoto didn't let the guy finish that sentence as he backhanded the bastard to the ground, forming a crater under him. The two other thugs looked surprised by the display, and the shock was enough to give Shin and I the chance to take care of the two others.

Shin slammed the bag with the pork buns on top of his foe, while I tried to karate chop the bald guy that was holding the redhead in place. The word 'tried' in this occasion was used in a rather… awkward manner.

I did succeed in freeing her from his hold, but I kind of broke his neck with that chop. And yes, that was where I realized that BS anime strength was within reach, the mere move not even drawing too much power out of me to achieve.

The girl was freed, eyes widening in glee as she was back on me with glowing eyes.

"That was so awesome, how did you do that?"

I was a bit embarrassed by this reaction. "I-I just wanted to karate chop him and I put… too much strength."

She gawked a bit, but Sakamoto nodded as he understood my current shock- then again, I could now say without any doubt that he was right… it was just not going to change in the common thug fight for any of us.

As the situation had settled a bit, the girl thanked us and told us about her situation. Her name was Lu Shaotang, she was the daughter of a former Triad clan boss in China- the man had moved to live in Japan to operate the foreign aspect of the business he was taking care of when one of his associates decided to take over.

The fucker had hired some assassins to kill Shao's parents months ago and had been trying to catch her as she held the key to a massive vault with many riches. The reason why the rich traitor couldn't get the vault open through other means was the way the vault was protected.

The walls and the doors were too thick for normal equipment to break, not even a few dynamite sticks could crack into it. Expensive as it was, I could see why he would expend his resources in catching the easy way into that place.

And while her tale was moving, there was an issue for both Shin and Sakamoto. Both had no reason to help her as doing that without a good enough reason would jeopardize any plans to keep anonymity from the rest of the JAA, or 'Japanese Assassin Association'.

It was pretty much the official business for legal assassination deals and… they had a particular honor code for those that tried to disappear and failed to do so. With that in mind, I was tempted to do this alone but-

"Can you cook pork buns?" Sakamoto asked flatly, his query not without merit as I noticed he had been silent-crying over the broken box with the buns we bought just mere minutes earlier.

"I was taught by my father, but when it comes to taste…"

"S-Sakamoto-san," Shin tried to reason against it, but the portly fellow had his mind set on completing the chore for his wife and, from the looks of it, saved up some money by hiring a competent assistant that can cook the food he loved.

"First, we secure the pork buns and then we go home, Shin."

That was the plan and while that sounded like a good idea, our walk to reach the manor was interrupted by the two dangerous assassins that had been responsible for killing Shao's parents.

The brothers Bacho and Son Hee, the former trying to take out Sakamoto but ending up just putting some dust on him with that explosive surprise attack. A single punch and the bald demented brother was down, with the other demented brother recoiling in surprise.

"You- My brother… Bacho, you should have listened to me for once."

"Maybe, but you don't seem that level headed yourself," I remarked out of euphoric sass, realizing a bit too late I had said that.

The long-haired killer snarled and rushed towards me, I panicked a bit, unsure if exposing myself with an attack could end up poorly for me. Super-strength or not, I didn't have the basic moves needed to fight with my bare hands, not against a professional assassin.

Still, luck is a factor and I was slowly realizing through this first adventure and then through the ensuing ones… that luck is ridiculous at times if you really take some time to create insane situations.

In this case, as I backed away, I may have caused a nearby water bottle that had been left open to spill and… cause the thug to slip. The way he arched created a very peculiar situation tied with Shao herself.

She had moved to try and kick the blade Son Hee was using so I would have had a greater chance to defend myself. But the way she was now moving with her kick already close to fully realizing, the blade shifted out of the killer's hand and… right onto his forehead.

A single stab and he was done for. The redhead's eyes were wide open while the rest just looked surprised at this development. After the shock had settled in, we were back on track and we easily made our way into the manor that was once lived by Shao's parents but was now no longer legally hers to keep. It was a sad end to that situation, but it wasn't over just yet.

The 'big boss' was a short bastard that didn't even try to fight us as he ran out of the window and… it was a high floor. I didn't need to look to know through Shin's grimace that he had banzai'd in an early grave.

Still, even though the threat was now dealt with, Shao could now check what was inside the vault. The massive doors opened and we were all stunned by what we found inside. The reason why this vault was so massive and so mighty was because the contents were made of a lot of expensive and rare vases and precious porcelain products from China. For a brief moment, I thought we had found some secret stash of treasures from Qing China or something like that.

Shao's giddiness vanished right as we stepped inside to look around, perhaps remembering this place after so long. I reached her and landed my right palm on her shoulder, she stiffed a bit at the touch but didn't react beyond that.

"You alright, Shao?"

"Y-Yeah, I… I am just happy."

The girl gave me a surprised look but then gave me a tiny but delighted smile, rushing to check the various items kept around. One in particular caught her attention, an old-looking box containing a… fairly old Sake bottle.

Inside there was a message from Shao's dad. He had planned to use this sake to celebrate her coming of age. She had turned 18 a few days after his passing and… yep, she was soon ugly-crying at the situation.

It was all an awkward affair, but we let her mourn a bit before getting a full understanding of the situation. There were some people that Sakamoto trusted that were hired to move all the precious items in a storage area Shao would have access to.

The girl was… excited, and she happily joined the growing staff of the convenience store. It was quite the adventure, a tame one, but one that pretty much showed me one thing I couldn't have suspected at all.

I was getting abnormally stronger and that was… something I had to further test out on my own.

Since I was sure this was an anime-like situation, it was best to get this activity tested out in a safe environment.
