A Cowardly Demon 5 - or 'How a Craven Girl ends up married, wife'd up and becomes the center of the plot' (Kimetsu no Yaiba, SIxMukago)

Mukago was hardly one that would put something above her self-preservation.

But the mere idea that a female Hashira had decided to 'check' on the situation tied to her and her husband was outrageous to say the least. She wouldn't have minded males- but no, they had to send a female. A beautiful one at that as she could see at first glance. Kochou Kanae was indeed a deadly beauty for someone like her.

A single swing of blade could have easily wrecked Mukago without any issue, but Mukago was not willing to budge. Arms wrapped around her beloved's neck, her butt resting on his lap, and a guarded glance aimed at the slayer, the Demoness was setting up a very simple scene: 'this is my man, go find your lovable hunk somewhere else!'.

And while that should have aided for a tense situation to erupt, the topic used by her husband to engage in pleasantries was... acceptable. And peaceful.

"I get it, Kochou-san. My sister tended to be so impulsive herself when she got to grow up. I can tell your sibling just needs a way to burn away all that pent-up aggression and she will eventually mature into a calmer individual."

They were talking about siblings, a topic Mukago was absolutely unprepared for, and yet found nice as differently than being subjected to questions on where she was getting blood and if this relationship she had with both Susamaru and John was honest. Both of this last question being extremely frustrating to answer as 'it should have been as clear as a sunny day's sky'.

"You say that, Bukharin-san, but I have a feeling I am doing something wrong nonetheless," Kanae whined softly, hand patting her own cheek as they sat by the table. "I just feel like I should be doing much more than just guiding her. Maybe I should train her some more?"

Oh yes, more Hashira to hunt people like Mukago down. Nothing wrong here.

"Wouldn't that be the best? Like, she gets to train, burn all of that stress and even get to spend time with family!" Susamaru, previously as tense as Mukago but having mellowed around the Hashira, smiled giddily. "That seems like one of those 'win-win' situation John talks a lot about."

Of course you would be fine with this, dumbass Tomboy.

"It doesn't seem like a bad idea. Plus, in case anything was to happen, Shinobu-san would have an outlet for stress when you are not there through training."

Kanae thought about this, nodding in agreement at that thought.

"It's a good idea, Bukharin-san. And I have to admit that... this entire visit is going much better than I had predicted. It's clear this is a loving family from the way Mukago-chan thinks I am planning to steal you from her and Susamaru-chan."

"Aren't you?" Mukago inquired, eyes narrowing at this, causing Kanae's irritating smile to widen a bit.

"Just because I asked your husband if he was doing this due to preference of demons over humans and me mentioning that I would love to have that sort of relationship, that doesn't mean I am interested in such a matter."

Bitch is lying.

"But I wouldn't mind," Susamaru remarked, gaining a scandalized look from Mukago. "More is merrier, right?"

"I would also not be intimate with someone I barely know, regardless of how interesting they are," Kanae added politely, which saw John frown in surprise.

"So, I am 'interesting' now?"

Oh yeah, get her, John! Tell her off!

"For someone with two Demon Wives? Yes. I am sorry if this seems more 'flattering' than it should be, but you truly have a charm to yourself to end up in such a situation, Bukharin-san."

That's a lie! I can smell the slutty scent of depravity from her!

The entire interrogation lasted a few more hours, but then Kanae said she was going to spend the night somewhere in the village as she planned to stay for a week to 'verify things were truly fine'. This meant the harlot was going to be around for a bit more, which was bad for Mukago's sanity.

At the very least, she got some solo time once Kanae was out and Susamaru decided to go out fishing. The feeling of being loved in bed by just her husband was enough to prep her up to mentally endure this potential nightmare. To think she would have been stuck in such a situation.

Unaware than another competitor was soon to caught up to her current complicating life.

The Spider Demon Family is... a happy family!

Or that was the mantra she was forced to repeat all those times to purposely please that bastard of Rui. If there is one thing that 'Older Sister' was very unwilling to entertain was the spiel that this was a happy place. Rui was deranged, her mother was actually a child that had been mutated into a motherly lady, her father... is a thing and- and everyone was not worthy of saving.

Which is why, when the opportunity came as Rui had been tasked by his master to visit for a mission, 'Older Sister' decided it was high time to leave the place at once. She had a chance like this before, trying to save others too, and it only impaired her survival due to their devotion to this family.

Thus, 'Older Sister' took this chance to leave on her own. Snow had been falling for some time on Mt. Natagumo, rendering it easy for someone as 'white' as she was both in hair, skintone, and clothes to hide away from anyone trying to track her down. No one there was accustomed to this sort of task, thus it was slightly easy for her to get quite far from the rest of the family for roughly a hour.

But the direction she was taking ot leave was... tedious. The path was treacherous as many animals were slumbering around, keen to wake up at the single noise and alerting anyone of where she was. A hour after the escape had began, 'Older Sister' perceived some of her 'siblings' giving chase quite close to where she was as she took a moment to rest.

Her feet were hurting bad, bleeding and all. While she was a Demon, she wasn't a physically-strong one, so she was careful of what kind of step she could afford to take. Yet, she realized that the snow was as unforgiving as helpful. Two hours of running saw her getting close to get caught, but she could see the river. Soon- Soon she was going to leave this hellhole for good. But as she rushed closer to this, some familiar strings suddenly wrapped around her body.

The Sister was terrified by the thought of this being a sign of Rui having actually caught up to her despite how absurd it was, but then she realized that the strings were leading to-

"You will not run away anymore, child!"

Mother.

"Let go of me, you stupid bitch! We have a chance to run-"

"From family-"

"FROM HELL! I refuse to be subjected to any of this anymore! Hell, why do you want to stay?! You get abused constantly by that bastard!"

The 'Mother' paused a moment at her harsh response, unease and thoughtfulness manifesting in a rather optimal situation despite the strings cutting into the Older Sister's kimono and skin. The screaming and shouting had caused for the snow in the path leading to the top to start to roll down. Soon, much to the horror of the 'Mother', an avalanche had formed and rushed down to them. There wasn't time to move, not while she held onto her 'daughter'.

Soon they were both swept away from the cold ice and snow, with the string failing to hold into the disruptive situation, and giving the Older Sister a chance to fight back. But while she could have done so many things, the one action she pursued was one driven by desperation.

A demon should rarely drink Demonic blood. Especially those that came from the same demon. When Older Sister rushed up to sink her teeth on Mother's exposed neck, she expected only one thing: draining her of Rui's blood, deprive her of the means to fight back and then let her escape for good.

The entire sequence unfolded within the avalanche, with the Mother unable to shake her off, screaming and then begging as she realized what was going on as the Avalance then stopped, them both hitting the ground as only one survived. Bloodied and tired, the Older Sister stood over the corpse of the 'Mother'. The blood-drained had her form reverted to the one she had previously as a human. Childish, innocent... a sad riddance, but one that had to happen.

But victory was brief for the 'Older Sister' as she found herself soon bending a bit over the terrible pain erupting from her stomach and spreading through her body. She stepped closer to the river, trying to see if it was the wounds causing her to feel like this but... but then she tripped forward, falling into her reflection and ending into the water.

Cold and wet, the current carried her away, with Older Sister struggling to keep up with that sort of horrid pain similar to how she was first turned into a monster. She blinked between awake and unconscious, before ultimately ending up brought to the side of the river, now a weak thing that could hardly carry her through and allowing her some peace.

The pain was over now, her body 'changed' to some extent and-

"Hm, you are not a fish?"

Opening her eyes slowly, the Spider Demoness was now looking at... another female demon. One with short hair, muscles, and an unfamiliar face. A non-Rui-related face at that.

She was free... but at what cost as her body had changed once more?
