How to NOT Biohazard 5 - or 'I am the one handling the money, so my plans have some relevance' (Resident Evil UmbrellaExec!SI)
Lady Mylene was not happy. In fact, she looked positively hideous.
Ah, to go from riches to rags. Such is the horrible thing known as karmic retribution- if you try to be a dick in this world, there's a big chance you're going to die or experience a major defeat. And as she had a full night to think and plan a way to not die while spending hours in her own family's dungeon, I doubted she had much conjured about.
Gilliam guided us to his former boss' current location, and I was surprised to find her bound and shackled to the wall. A quick inquisitive look yielded some answers from the head butler.
"Lady Mylene behaved erratically, so it was best believed to have her restrained for the duration of her stay in the dungeon."
I slowly nodded at this. "A cautious but good choice," I half-praised and then turned to Mylene. "Now, I believe you can start with an apology."
"What have you done to my Mylenia?"
"...I just gave her a head pat."
"You what?!" The blonde exploded, shocked and looking at her creation.
"Mylenia, did I do anything beyond putting a hand on your head and rubbing there?"
The BOW shook her head slowly as I asked that, then bowed her head at me and I... headpatted her again.
"C-Can you not do that?! That's not a pet for you to play with!"
"You are right, she is more than that or a mere toy for you to use," I calmly stated, glancing back to Mylene. "Mylenia here is quite the peculiar individual. One I bet you didn't fully grasp the potential of just yet."
"Spare me the condescending tone, Bukharin. If you want to claim my life, then do it at once or-"
"Why would I want to kill you?" I interrupted flatly, drawing the woman's rant to a pause. "After all, you are far more useful alive."
Her eyes narrowed at this.
"W-What are you talking about?"
"Well, for a starter... Spencer hates your guts, and that's a good starting point. Then, you have some scientific background that can't be ignored- the real issue is the fact you are not born to lead due to the egocentrism you are dealing with," I listed out brutally, uncaring of the traitorous offer as no one here could really do much to sway Spencer into believing I could be plotting something like this. "The thing is, Mylene, I really am a person that doesn't want to kill away those that are keen to lose it as badly as you did."
"I-"
"You allowed an outbreak with the expectation to take over Umbrella and the World. No plans on how to go around the superpowers' military, no plans for the post-conquest period. You just got greedy and you paid the price you are paying right now."
Her anger was slowly being suppressed by my own voice. "I had- I had a plan."
"You were so ambitious but you decided that, out of your pathetic family's pride, you had to get everything and leave nothing to everyone else. The truth is, Mylene, that you are strong for what you are, not what you try to stand up to. Your family name? It matters not in the cold world of business. Here you are, your wonderful dress stained and humid, your makeup faltering, your confidence dying because you are not the greatest scientist in the world. No one is," I continued to bash the downed noblewoman. "Which is why, my offer is quite simple. Do you think you are worthy of your name? Then you will be given the opportunity to start as an assistant research in the medical branch in Europe. New name, a few changes to your appearance and a new fresh start to stand out. You will be monitored- Gilliam shall be your minder for the duration of this first decade and... I guess you will attain freedom once you proved yourself worthy of it."
"...What if I fail?"
I smiled glacially. "You keep Gilliam. But I believe the question you are worried about is: what do I need to do to warrant death? For that question, the answer is refusing. Because, at that point, I cannot let you live."
There was a tense few minutes, and I let the woman ponder on her current fate. As expected, she picked the 'not-death' option. Gilliam would take care of applying the right changes to hide away his former lady's appearance while also becoming her jailor. Comeuppance sure felt right as a term to describe the kind of situation that came to this very development.
Still, with Mylene dealt with, it was now time of Mylenia. The BOW was soon back in my room, but instead of getting pampered, she was staring at some clothes I had laid for her in the bed. Perplexed and very unsure, the female BOW spent a little while to decide what to put on. And that was excluding the fact she will have to wear a hat, sunglassed and a facemask to prevent anyone from noticing her pinkish green skin.
After a while, the girl chose one and I had to help her with it. I had thought of having someone else aid us, but I have a feeling the poor thing was not trusting of others but me. Soon, she was wearing baggy jeans, a half-quarter long jacket and a black shirt.
She looked herself in a mirror and then smiled at herself.
"You look wonderful," I praised. "And since you have been behaving nicely, I went to pick this little treat for you."
Said little treat was a bar of chocolate. I slowly unwrapped it, the BOW frowning at it as her nostrils picked up the sweet scent of it. I broke a small piece and got it closer to her mouth. She parted her lips instinctively and was soon munching on the treat and... and she looked shell-shocked by the taste and-
...
"A-Are you crying?"
She reached for her cheek and cupped some tears, glanced at those and then slowly nodded.
"Awww, Millie. It's alright. I will not mistreat you, I promise you that."
She smiled warmly as I reached out for a hug. I gave her the rest of the chocolate while headpatting and hugging her. After all preparations were made, we departed before the 'purging squads' got to the castle to erase any history of Mylene's presence and enforce a blockade over potential reporters trying to get the big news of the outbreak on the island.
After a safe trip back to the States and bribing our way out of some awkward controls, I promised a report to Spencer around dinnertime the very day of our return, but I made a quick trip to William's laboratory to ask someone for a favor.
"You want me to... stabilize her biology?"
"As much as she is docile, her current medical conditions may leave her in a rather fragile situation, both biologically and virally. I would usually disturb William with this, but I have noticed that Millie is more at ease around women."
"I see..." Annette Birkin looked a bit perplexed with the 'black-ops' request I was asking her to tackle, but she seemed interested as she saw how infantile Mylenia was looking like. "Well, Mylenia?"
The BOW perked and turned at Annette, showing quite a lot of intelligence. I could tell that mere reaction had the woman interested in what could be done with this. It was like a scientist had been shown that God can be defied. Again.
"My name is Annette and... I am going to be your doctor. I will make sure you are healthy and well, do you understand?"
A slow nod. "Thank... you."
"Fascinating," Annette breathed quietly and then gave me a look. "I will treat her with care. After all, you helped paying the wedding."
I snorted. "Annie, that was a gift, not something you or Bill need to think as a debt."
"Nonetheless, I will be careful about it. You have nothing to worry about it as 'Millie' will be given enough attention."
At this, the BOW smiled at Annette and the scientist smiled back.
It took me a while to convince Spencer that this was the best course of action, for me to 'prepare' Mylenia to be my own BOW Bodygurd but he surrendered once I made it clear it would be cheaper for me to keep around such a strong and reliable BOW under my control.
He acquiesced and, for the next two years, things were relatively calm. Annette ended up giving birth to Sherry, which stalled the final steps to finalize Mylenia's proper conversion into a less-viral and more reliable entity that was no longer stuck with Mylene's failsafe plan.
That would have to fully complete by 1987, right around the same time Michael Warren would win the Mayoral Elections in Raccoon City after waging a 'rational urbanization program' to streamline and ease the bureaucracy behind the expansion of the city's borders and economic might.
I would then be assigned as the Umbrella's connection to Raccoon City's City Hall, working as the fine connection with Warren and helping him finalize some of the agreements he had with the company without too much of a corruption case that could possibly ruin his career.
At the same time, I became the 'unofficial' babysitter to both Sherry Birkin and Katherine Warren, the Mayor's daughter, due to both girls having parents quite busy and thus keen to be aware I would offer them space to play about or study if their parents were unable to provide as much.
Things were lining up quite well as Millie's introduction event as my bodyguard was around the corner but... I was also surprised to end up shaking hands with.
"Albert Wesker, it's a honor to finally make your acquaintance, Mr. Bukharin."
Well shit.
AN
Next time... Millie's new look reveal and Wesker being a troublesome and greedy little shit. What's new? Oh right, I tried Re4 Remake's Separate Ways (up to the beginning of the Island Section). I have nothing to complain Gameplaywise, but I do feel some players were right about Ada lacking a bit of emotions. She seemed lacking 'passion' within some of the sentences that required more emotion. The dull tone was fine through most of the dialogue, but it felt wrongly-used in some of the more important scenes.
