It was a bright and sunny day in the Pride Lands. The Lion Guard was doing their daily patrol, when they decided to stop by the Watering Hole for a short break. During their break, the topic of Ono's grandmother had somehow come up in the conversation, and all the while, Kion couldn't help but think of his own grandmother as the talking went on.
"It's true!" Ono said. "My grandmother was the first egret in the Pride Lands to ever fly straight through the desert and back. During the dry season!" Everyone was in awe that Ono's grandmother had achieved such a task. "That's unbungalievable!" Bunga cried. "It sure is impressive, Ono." Said Beshte. "Yeah, it really is. But you know, I just can't help but think of my own grandmother." Said Kion.
Everyone looked in his direction. "Oh yeah. Your grandmother… Um…" Bunga was trying hard to remember the name of the lioness. "Sarabi." Kion finished. "How come we've never seen her, Kion? Did she pass away?" Beshte asked. Kion's ears perked up. "What? No, she's not dead or anything. She left the Pride Lands many years ago when I was just a baby. I don't have many memories of my grandmother Sarabi, but the few memories I do have of her are great. I miss her so much." Kion looked down at the water and saw his reflection. "Don't worry, Kion. I'm sure you'll see her again someday." Fuli reassured.
Just then before Kion could respond, a loud sadistic cackle was heard in the distance. "Oh no! It's Janja and his clan again!" Kion said. "Well we better go stop them before they hurt any animals!" Bunga said. "You're right, Bunga. Till the Pride Lands end…" "Lion Guard defend!"
When the Lion Guard arrived at the source of the cackling, they found Janja, Chungu, and Cheezi, harassing a heard of antelope. "Come on fellas! Let's catch us some of these juicy antelopes before- But before Janja could finished, he got pounced on by Kion. "Janja!" Kion shouted. Kion and Janja then began wrestling on the ground trying to get the best of one another, while Bunga, Beshte, and Fuli, worked to calm down the antelopes and took care of Chungu and Cheezi, and Ono keeping an eye on all of it from the sky.
Eventually, Janja was able to get the upper hand and pin Kion beneath him. Kion wheezed as he struggled to release himself from Janja's grasp, but to no avail. "Face it, Kion! If it weren't for that roar of your's backing you and your team up, you would be nothing, and you know it!" Janja taunted. Kion paid no attention to the disheartening words. "I…! Won't…! Give up…!" Kion wheezed. He attempted to kick Janja off of him by kicking him in the stomach with his hind legs, but all it really did was annoy and anger Janja more. "Agh! Quit that you little flea!" Janja shouted. He then uppercutted Kion with his paw, causing him to fly backward and hit his head on a rock. Kion was now unconscious with some blood trickling down from his nose.
All of the guard members were so busy dealing with everything else, that none of them could go over to Kion's aid. All except for one animal that none of them could see yet. Janja slowly walked over to Kion, and scowled over him. "Okay.. I've had just about enough of this little lion cub.." As Janja raised his paw and exposed his claws, he prepared to land his finishing blow onto Kion. When suddenly another much larger paw wrapped around his. It was a lion's paw. Janja turned his head and saw a large lioness he did not recognize growling at him. Before Janja could give a proper response, the lioness swatted at Janja sending him tumbling to the ground. And right when he tried to get up, he had Chungu and Cheezi suddenly thrown right onto his back. "Ow! Janja, who is that!?" Asked Cheezi. "I'm not sure! But let's get out of here before she beats us up even more!" Janja said as he cowered. And just like that, Janja and his clan ran away from the Pride Lands as quickly as they could.
When everything had settled down with the antelopes, the guard went to check on Kion. They found the mysterious lioness lingering over him examining his injuries. "Um, thanks for helping us out with those hyenas." Bunga said, almost afraid. "Yeah, it was a huge help. But, who are you?" Beshte asked. Just then a small grunt was heard from Kion. "Oh, he's waking up!" Bunga said. Fuli ran over to him. "Kion, are you okay?" She asked. "Yeah, yeah Fuli I'm fi- Kion then moved his eyes onto the lioness, and he gasped. He rose to his feet quickly and his eyes were big and widened. The lioness was his grandmother Sarabi. "GRANDMA!!!" Kion cried as he ran up into Sarabi's embrace. The whole guard was surprised, as they had no idea that this was Sarabi, the former queen of the Pride Lands. "Grandma I missed you so much!!" Kion said. "I missed you too baby!" Sarabi said. Kion then let go of her and looked up into her eyes. "But why? Why did you come back all of a sudden?" Kion asked. Sarabi looked down, and then back at Kion. "I'll explain it to you once everyone else is present. Now come with me back to Pride Rock." Sarabi said. Kion did what he was told and began following Sarabi, the rest of the guard did also, curious to see what would happen next.
