Somewhere along the Welsh coastline

It was very peaceful here.

Apart from the storm outside. The rain was weighty, muting with the work they were doing in the abandoned facility from the outside world.

All was calm.

The two were carrying out their work, nothing was said between them, only accompanied by the soft rumble of the nearby portable generator they had and the peaceful music that was emitting from an old-fashioned touch-screen phone, which is weird considering that technology has moved past touchscreen and into interactive holograms.

One of them just finished up with one of the many wiring that they were doing. Sitting down, he took some snacks that his partner just brought, many miles down from where they were.

Chewing quietly, he broke the silence between them.

"I think I'm going to miss this world. It's very fascinating that we saw what possibly humanity might look like 70 years down the road."

A moment went by before his partner spoke up.

"Yeah." She sighed. "I wanted to explore more of this world. Imagine if we partnered up with Overwatch."

He hummed in agreement. "But I don't think they will let us join Overwatch considering the crap we pulled them through, Vale."

The storm and rain outside provided limited light into the concrete room that they were in. Despite the overwhelming darkness, he could see the big metallic ring that stood in the centre of the room.

Vale saw her partner looking at the big ring and gave it a look.

"Do you think we can get this working John? They did not teach us how to build a portal from scratch."

John gave a thought about it, then chuckled.

"With Tom and Eve, anything is possible. I guess we were lucky that they even had the schematics, blueprints, and parts for a portal tunneling device."

Just like that, two small circular devices lit up.

"I wasn't aware that I had the schematics, blueprints, and parts of a portal device, sir." A calm male voice said.

"Maybe we can use this new portal to go to another world!" A cheery voice spoke out.

Vale grinned; she always loved her AI companion. "Maybe another time Eve, let's go home first."

"Aw poo!" Vale may only see the sound waves of her friend, but she could tell she was pouting if she ever had a face. Eve's personality always cheers anyone up in a bad situation, and no matter how hard things go, she is always there every step of the way.

"No worries, Tom. At least we can go home now." John said to his AI companion. "Also, no need to be too serious. Can cut out that sir nonsense."

"Someone needs to be the steady head here in case something goes south, like always." John chuckled, his artificial friend was always so monotone, but always cracked jokes here and there. Plus, he's right. He, Tom, Vale, and Eve would always get into trouble. And Tom would always find a way out.

"And that's why I'm glad that I have you." John beamed.

"Alright, break time over." Vale stretched. "Let's get back to work."

The sounds of work began again, with lights flashing and flickering in the lone room somehow making its way through the abandoned base. But they didn't care.

Soon, they will be home again.
