After a few weeks, Brynlee had finally managed to level up her Flight Skill enough to travel all the way to Loguetown. Learning to fly without advice or guidance hadn't been easy, and it wasn't done without earning a fair amount of scrapes and bruises, but she'd made it, somehow. And then, thanks to her sweet GPS attribute AKA "Instincts of a South Bird" (which essentially allowed her to sense the location of the biggest, nearest islands thanks to the winds or something like that), she'd managed to find her way to the most renown island in the East Blue without too much trouble.
And now, three days after arriving, she was seeking a way out – quite urgently. She didn't remember there being such an important marine activity on the island, back in the original storyline, but it had only been a few years since Roger's execution, so they were probably still pretty determined to catch all wanabee pirates trying to make it to the Grand Line.
So yes, finding a way out – ASAP.
[SUBQUEST]
Silver Tongue
Convince the merchant ship to ferry you to Cocoyashi!
Reward: One (1) FEAT
ACCEPT/REFUSE
Brynlee was quite curious of what this "feat" reward entailed, and she needed to leave Loguetown as quickly as possible anyway, so she promptly accepted the subquest. She'd only been in the city for a short time, but she feared staying any longer would alert the marines to her existence. She'd managed to hide her wings under a thick, somewhat dirty cloak (and her wings weren't all that big yet, thankfully enough) but her disguise wouldn't last much longer. She was already drawing curious or pitiful looks from the civilians, some of which donated some money or food when they passed by her, but she knew a child on the streets would draw unwanted attention.
So, leaving now. If she could convince the merchant to take her along.
"E- excuse me, sir…?"
"I ain't got money, kid—"
"You're- you're going to Cocoyashi, right?" She looked up at him, her lower lip trembling a bit. "Can you- can you take me with you? Please?"
"Aah? A ship ain't no place for a little girl," he refused.
"I- I won't get in the way! And I can pay! Please!"
The man paused, now admittedly a bit curious. "Why do you need to go there so bad?"
"I think- I think my family might be there." She couldn't outright lie and say they were, because there was a good chance he'd check once they got there. "I was in a shipwreck and- and we got separated, but we were heading to Cocoyashi so- so…"
Her eyes watered – crying on demand was much easier in the body of a child, she'd quickly found out. But what was even more pitiful than a child crying, you might wonder?
Easy: a child holding back their tears.
So she inhaled deeply, roughly rubbing her eyes as she clearly tried her hardest not to show how bad she was hurting. The merchant's expression almost immediately softened, and he heaved out a sigh, glancing around. After a few seconds, he sighed again, and offered a small nod.
"Fine. Fine. I'll find you a corner to sleep in. But you better not get in the way of my crew's work, kid – and you're only getting the least bit of rations we can spare!"
She immediately brightened up, shaking her head. "I- I don't even need to eat! Don't worry, I won't get in the way at all!"
That only seemed to drive the nail even deeper in his heart and he began grumbling under his breath about his "goddamn bleeding heart" and "upping the funds for a couple more rations 'cause I'm not a fucking monster", and he gestured to the gang plank behind him.
"Go on up, find somewhere to sit, and stay there. We'll be leaving shortly."
"Okay! Thank you, Mister!"
[SUBQUEST COMPLETE!]
Silver Tongue
Congratulations! You managed to talk your way onto the merchant ship!
REWARD: One (1) FEAT
Please choose one (1) FEAT:
Heart Sight
You can see every single person's "Heart". What do they want? What would best serve their interests? What are they willing to sacrifice to achieve their own personal goals?
.
Performance
You are capable of expressing all sorts of emotions through words and body language alike. Your life is a theater, and the world is your stage!
.
Silver Tongue
Words have power! You're able to find the right ones to win over people, and you're quite skilled at making friends and foes alike.
Brynlee waited until she'd found a nice little corner to sit in and stay out of the way before opening the window to evaluate the "feats" offered. The special skills didn't seem like much when compared to the various powers this world had to offer, but she knew better than to spit on this kind of opportunity. So, after so consideration, she decided to pick the third feat "Silver Tongue". She'd always been curious about people who could just talk and somehow make a difference. Plus, there'd be plenty of heavy hitters in Luffy's crew, so might as well bank on a different type of strength.
So between Insight, Performance and Persuasion, then…
She selected "Silver Tongue".
[NEW FEAT ACQUIRED]
Silver Tongue
Words have power! You're able to find the right ones to win over people, and you're quite skilled at making friends and foes alike.
Level: 1/20
+ 1 bonus (Will of D.)
So unlike ABILITIES, I'll need to try and level up my FEATS, just like my SKILLS. But it's also possible to gain bonuses that'll allow me to go over the indicated limit… Well, I can just look more into those once I reach Cocoyashi. For now, I just need to focus on not drawing attention and reaching my destination.
