Chapter One: Just another day
Location: Queens, New York
Eddie Brock was not having a good day. It didn't start badly however, like any day it began at home. His father Carl had left for work early, in an obvious attempt to limit his interactions with Eddie. Sadly this was not the first time Eddie had been shunned by his father. Its been like this for as long as he could remember. His mother had died from complications of giving birth to him, and it was no secret his father resented him and blamed him for her passing. So Eddie strived to be as perfect as possible in an attempt to win his fathers approval. He studied hard in school, and kept his body in peak condition for sports, all in a vein effort to impress a man who felt nothing for him. Still, he pressed onward, finishing his breakfeast and walking to school. Unfortunately, it began to rain midway through his walk. Eddie sighed and checked his watch. "School starts in 10 minutes. Damn, not enough time to head back home and grab an umbrella." Eddie thought to himself. So he picked up his speed, running in an effort to get out of the rain as soon as possible. He managed to get to his school with a few minutes to spare. He looked at the words emblazoned on the sign by the front entrance, Midtown High. He spoke softly, "Well, here I go again." Mentally preparing himself for the day ahead.
*Time Skip: Science Class*
Science was one of Eddie's weaker subjects. Rather than excelling in it, he just barely understood the material. This is not to say he was stupid, far from it, he just did better in other subjects. Todays lesson was special because they had a guest speaker, a proffesor from the city of Metropolis. He was a man in his early fifties, with chestnut brown hair, and a well kept beard. The proffesor introduced himself to the class. "Hello everyone, My name is Emil Hamilton. I'm an expert in alien studies at S.T.A.R Labs' Metropolis branch. Before we begin with todays lesson, I'm sure you all have some questions about our city's favorite son, so i'll take questions one at a time." Eddie began thinking to himself. "Metropolis' favorite son, the legendary Superman. It must be crazy living in the same city as an alien who can level a city just by clapping his hands, not to mention fly and shoot lasers from his eyes.". You see, Eddie lived in a world full of extraordinary people, some of whom possesed incredible abilities, and even superpowers in some cases. One such person was an alien known to the world as Superman. Superman was far from the only superhero in the world, but he was certainly the most famous. Eddie didnt have much time to dwell on his thoughts, as Proffesor Hamilton started his lesson. "Now that I've answered some questions about Superman, I believe its time to begin our actual lesson today, although it is actually related to Superman." The professor began interacting with a nearby projector, which then displayed an image onto the classroom whiteboard. This image was of a green rock, one that looked alien in origin, which was no surprise given it was related to an actual alien. "This is called Kryptonite. It is a radioactive mineral that originated on Supermans birth planet, Krypton. According to Superman, Krypton was destroyed when it's sun collapsed into itself, pulling Krypton into it. When Krypton exploded as a result of the following supernova, pieces of Krypotonite were irradiated and launched throughout the cosmos. It's not one hundred percent clear how the Kryptonite traveled from Krypton to Earth in such a relatively short time, but my fellow experts have many theories such as wormholes or alien black markets." Proffesor Hamilton continued talking about how Kryptonite's radiation affected plants, animals, humans and Kryptonians differently, as well as how exposure to different radiation affected Kryptonite itself. The lesson continued on, though Eddie found it difficult to focus, he was busy daydreaming about what life amongst superheroes must be like. After some time, Professor Hamilton wraps up his lesson, packing up his projector and leaving the classroom just as the end of period bell rings.
*Time Skip: End of school day*
While most students were eager to rush home at the end of the school day, Eddie didn't feel any sense of urgency. Understandable, considering he didn't have much to return home to. He would always find reasons to stay late, wether helping the staff or just hanging out on the football field. Today however, no one needed his help. Strangely, an unfamiliar custodian seemed to appear out of nowhere, and suggested that Eddie help professor Hamilton pack his equipment up. Eddie knew all the staff by heart, so this new face was odd, but he shrugged it off as a new hire or a temp. Eddie went to the science lab, where Hamilton was zipping up a few bags. "Excuse me, Professor Hamilton?" Hamilton looked up at Eddie with a kind smile. "Ah, hello there. Is there something I can help you with, young man?" Eddie approached the man. "Actually Professor, I wanted to see if you needed any help yourself." Hamiltons smile remained as he gestured to the bags. "Well, if you're willing to help, I could use some assistance getting these out to my car." Eddie picked up a bag with each hand. "Lead the way, Professor". Eddie and Professor Hamilton went to the parking lot, Hamiltons car was easy to find as it was one of the only ones left, most faculty had gone home by this point. Hamilton opens the trunk for Eddie, while he moves around to put some other things in the passenger seat. While Eddie is putting the bags away, something catches his eye. He carefully picks it up, revealing a glass cylinder with metal ends, however the glass is cracked. "Hey, Professor, what's this all abo-". Eddie is interrupted when something jumps out from the darkness. He starts thrashing as he feels a gooey substance covering his whole body. After a few seconds of struggling, the goo dissolves into his skin, however Eddie is very concerned as to what the hell just happened. Before he can ask the Professor, he feels something g hit him on the back of the head hard, before losing consciousness. Behind him is Professor Hamilton, holding a metal rod. He then drops the rod before pulling out a cell phone. "This is Hamilton... we have a problem"
