Nobody was surprised by the absence of Iris Potter at breakfast the next day. Well, nobody but Harry, but he had only know the girl for five minutes, four of those being her outburst. They knew she would be in her room, the only part that did surprise Remus Lupin when he entered the room was the fact that she wasn't smoking. Awake and sat cross legged on her bed she was doodling in an old looking journal. "That's pretty" Remus spoke.

"When I was a kid, whenever I saw Lilies I used to think it was my mums way of saying she was looking over me. Obviously, I'm aware that's bullshit now but they're still nice to draw" Iris snapped the book shut and looked at the man who was smiling sadly. "Am I still allowed out today? Or did I fuck it up?" she asked bluntly.

Remus chuckled under his breath before unhooking the coat from the back of her door and throwing it at her. Her head picked up, eyes went wide and bright and a creeping smile wove itself onto her face. Standing to her feet she ran over to the other side of the room and grabbed her old shoes, pulling them on too, her backpack following. The man watched the redhead bound down the stairs with more joy than she had expressed since arriving there.

Tonks was waiting for the pair at the bottom of the staircase, beaming brightly at the duo "Wotcher Iris, Remus" she greeted. "Before we go, hope you don't mind but I gotta do a couple enchantments on you, change up your appearance a little bit" Tonks told her. Iris nodded cautiously. A few flicks of the wand later, Iris potter was a short haired brunette with brown eyes, tan skin and a lot more freckles. Her nose was bigger and eyebrows bushier but they kept her height and weight the same. "No point trying on clothes if they won't fit you when you're out of disguise" Tonks chirped. "Right, you ready?" she asked and Iris eagerly nodded.

The three left the house, walking across the road, Remus warned her they would be travelling like they had the first time they met "You shouldn't throw up this time though" he added. It wasn't without caution than Iris nodded in understanding. She took his arm, holding on tightly under his instruction and felt the familiar pop, feeling like she was being sucked through a tight squeeze before landing on a cobbled road. "Yes, much more pleasant when not under the threat of kidnapping I assume" Remus chuckled and the girl smile, her eyes close and she leaned her head back and just enjoyed the felling of the sun on her face.

The first step was the bank. Gringotts was where they all kept their gold apparently. "Your parents left you and Harry a tidy sum. He's obviously used some over the last few years, but I think wizarding law doesn't allow him to take more than half anyway. Not that he would have reached that" Remus rambled, going on about the different types of coins and their value to each other but Iris was frozen to the spot, looking around her in amazement. She didn't even notice Tonks arriving next to her.

"Imagine it's your first time seeing a goblin, right Ris?" Tonks smiled in amusement, "come on" she indicated, the three walking up to the desk and asking to go to her vault. The goblin in question raised an eyebrow when see which vault it was he was to take them too, but didn't comment, it wasn't the place of a goblin to get involved in Wizarding feuds. His job was to look after the gold.

And there was much gold in the Potter vault. Iris felt her mouth drop. Having been raised with nothing, thinking she was nothing. Not only was there a large inheritance in that vault, but there was also an identity, she had a family background, a history to her linage, there must be because she could see no other way to accumulate that amount of gold if it hadn't been passed down.

Once an amount deemed appropriate had been collected the three went back to the desk to convert some of it into muggle money. "I assume you'd prefer that style of clothing than wizarding" Tonks reasoned.

The busy streets of London were all hustle and bustle. Iris knew them well. "I used to sleep over there" She pointed to a shut down theatre they passed. "With Raine" she breathed the name, a sad expression taking over her, a look of longing, tears fogging her eyes before she shook them away, becoming stoic once again. She didn't talk again until they got to a clothes shop. "What should I get?" she wondered, looking at the two adults.

"Well, maybe a couple shirts, some jeans, you definitely need a new coat that will keep you warm. Shoes too" Remus listed.

"And probably under pants, but don't worry, it'll sort that with you" Tonks winked at the girl who smiled weakly whilst Remus turned bright red.

The three walked around the shop, with Iris hesitating to touch anything. Most of the time she kept her sleeves pulled down over her hands. It was only when Remus noticed she had passed the same shirt for a third time that he pointed it out "Why don't you try it on?" he asked her. Iris bit her lower lip, pulling at the dry skin until it ripped off.

"What if I ruin it?" she asked uncertainly. She was being serious too Remus could tell, she was terrifying of touching anything in the shop in case she broke or ruined something. It was no doubt a fear that she would have been developed through experience. Taking the time to reassure her that it would be okay, going so far as to be the one to pick up the shirt and carry it for her.

The moment that had both himself and Tonks stand back was when she let herself pick up a dress. It was pretty, a dark green, all lace dress with long sleeves that would come to just above her knees. "It's too good for me" she murmured just loud enough for them to hear, although it was clear she was saying it to herself. Quickly turning to leave it and instead pick out a simple pair or trainers, good for running away in if Remus had to guess.

Almost an hour later the three were back in Diagon Alley picking out ice cream. "What's that one?" Iris wondered out loud, pointing at a vivid red ice cream. The curious part to Remus was the fact there was a sign right in front of it saying what it is. Either way he explained it was a blood flavoured for vampires "Ew" Iris quickly remarked, settling for a safe mint flavour.

Upon the return to 12 Grimmauld Place, Iris patiently allowed Tonks to undo all the enchantments on her appearance before she took her bags upstairs, starting to unpack them and hang them in her wardrobe. Remus knocked on the door and walked in with a smile, holding a final bag out to her confusion. Accepting it Iris looked in, pulling out the green dress she had fawned over. Her eyes filling with tears. "It's a gift, not much, but we have missed a few birthdays" Remus chucked, rubbing the back of his head almost nervously. "Iris" he started and she looked up at him. "Do you know how to read?" he asked bluntly. The girl started shaking with nerves, quickly getting back to putting her things away. "It's okay, if you don't. I just want to know, so maybe I can teach you?" he offered.

The red head gapped. Mouth open she seemed astonished "You would teach me to read and write?" she asked. By this point she had stopped thinking there was a catch with Remus. She- as difficult as it was for her to accept- honestly believed he wanted to help her.

"I would be honoured" he replied earnestly. Iris didn't even hesitate in hugging her thanks.
