DM77's Ace Attorney Chapter 1
Beginner's Nerves
August 3, 10:00 AM, District Court, Courtroom No. 2
J and Terra were no in the courtroom, it was a high tech look room with audience members overlooking the trial. J and Terra stand behind the defence bench and register themselves into the system for the trial, this allowed them to enter evidence for the court and hand things over to the judge when needed.
The judge was a green and yellow robot with a silver face and blue optics. He was Alchamist Prime but most call him Maccadam he was a fair judge but could be scatterbrained. He bangs his gavel and said "Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Joey Wheeler."
"The prosecution is ready, Your Honor." The prosecutor for the case said a red and white imp wearing a tattered slate-gray collared coat with red buttons down the breast, black knee-high boots matching the shape of his feet, and elbow-length black fingerless gloves featuring large, rounded yellow decorations on the upper side of them and a red skull charm around his neck, he was Blitzo. J was told by Terra he was known as the Rookie Killer Imp.
"The, um, defense is ready, Your Honor." J said gulping a bit still nervous.
"Ahem. Miss J?" Maccadam said looking at the drone girl. "This is your first trial, is it not?"
"Y-Yes, Your Honor. I'm, um, a little nervous I will admit." J said nodding.
"Your conduct during this trial will decide the fate of your client." Maccadam explained to her. "Murder is a serious charge. For your client's sake, I hope you can control your nerves."
"Thank….thank you, Your Honor." J said but still a bit nervous.
Maccadam picked up on that and said "Miss. J, given the circumstances…I think we should have a test to ascertain your readiness."
"Yes, Your Honor." J said nodding but thinks 'Gulp…. Hands shaking…. visuals…. fading…'
"The test will consist of a few simple questions. Answer them clearly and concisely." Maccadam explained "Please state the name of the defendant in this case."
"The defendant? Well, that would be Joey Wheeler, Your Honor." J said with some thought.
"Correct." Maccadam said nodding "Just keep your wits about you and you'll do fine. Next Question: This is a murder trial. Tell me, what's the victim's name?"
'Oh, I know this one! As a professional I read the case report cover to cover so many times' J thought proud of herself 'It's… wait… Oh no!' She looks worried and shocked 'No… no way! I forgot! I'm drawing a complete blank here!'
Terra noticing J's look said concerned "J! Are you absolutely SURE you're up to this? You don't even know the victim's name?!"
"Oh, the victim! O-Of course I know the victim's name" J said laughing a bit nervous "I, um, just forgot... Temporarily."
"I think I am feeling a migraine coming on." Terra said sighing rubbing his temples "Look, the victim's name is listed in the Court Record." He motions to the console in front of J. "Just use the console on your bench to check it at any time, okay? Remember to check it often. Do it for me, please. I'm begging you."
"Miss. J. Who is the victim in this case?" Maccadam asked again.
J checks the court record which has Evidence and Profiles, she checks the profiles and got the victims name she then said "Um…the victim's name is Mai Valintine."
"Correct." Maccadam said nodding to that. "Now, tell me, what was the cause of death? She died because she was…?"
J checks the court record again and checks the Evidence which contained her Defense Attorney's badge for some reason but also Mai's Autopsy Report. She then said, "She was struck once, by a blunt object."
"Correct." Maccadam said smiling and nodding "You've answered all my questions. I see no reason why we shouldn't proceed. You seem much more relaxed, Miss. J. Good for you."
"Thank you, Your Honor." J said looking calm but in her head she was sweating and thinks 'Because I don't FEEL relaxed, that's for sure.'
"Well then…" Maccadam said and looks over to Blitzo "First, a question for the prosecution, Mr. Bltizo?"
"Yes, Your Honor? But also, a reminder it's Blitz, the O in my name is silent." Bltizo said.
"Understood, I apologize Mr. Bltiz" Maccadam said nodding then said "As Miss. J just told us, the victim was struck with a blunt object…Would you explain to the court just what that 'object' was?"
"The murder weapons was this statue of 'The Thinker.' Bltizo said holding it up and placing it on the Prosecution bench. "It was found lying on the floor, next to the victim."
"I see…The court accepts it into evidence." Maccadam said pressing a button that updates the court record for everyone with an entry of the statue.
"J…. Be sure to pay attention to any evidence added during the trial." Terra told J "That evidence is the only ammunition you have in court. Use the console to check the Court Record frequently." J nods understanding
Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "Mr. Blitz, the prosecution may call its first witness."
"The prosecution calls the defendant, Mr. Wheeler, to the stand." Bltizo said nodding.
"Um, Boss, what do I do now?" J asked looking at Terra.
"Pay attention." Terra told her "You don't want to miss any information that might help your client's case. You'll get your chance to respond to the prosecution later, so be ready! Let's just hope he doesn't say anything…unfortunate."
'Oh no, Joey gets excited easily…. This could be bad' J thought concerned.
We come to a bit later, Joey was standing on the witness stand looking to have calmed down a bit.
Bltizo cleared his throat and asked "Mr. Wheeler. Is it not true that the victim had recently dumped you like yesterday's spoiled milk?"
"Hey, watch it buddy!" Joey yelled out angry "We were great together! We were Jon and Daenerys, Robin Hood and Regina!"
'Um…didn't all those relationships end in tragedy?' J asked in her head looking concerned.
"I wasn't dumped! She just wasn't taking my phone calls. Or seeing me… Ever." Joey said smiling. "WHAT'S IT TO YOU, ANYWAY?!"
"My. Wheeler, what you describe is generally what we mean by 'dumped.' Trust me I've done it a lot to know." Bltizo told him. "In fact, she had completely abandoned you… and was even seeing other men! She had just returned from overseas with one of them the day before the murder!"
"What do you mean, 'one of them'?!" Joey yelled out looking flustered. "Lies! All of it, lies! I don't believe a word of it!"
"Your Honor, the victim's passport." Bltizo said holding up said passport "According to this, she was in Kalos until the day before she died." The Passport was added to the court record.
"Hmmm…. Indeed, she appears to have returned the day before the murder." Maccadam said looking at the info in the Court Record.
"What…. No way…." Joey said in shock.
"The victim was a model as well as a duellist but did not have a large income." Bltizo explained for everyone. "It appears that she had several 'Sugar Daddie.'
"Daddies? Sugar?" Joey said in shock and confused.
"Yeah. Older men, who gave that blonde money and gifts." Bltizo explained. "She took their money and used it to support her lifestyle."
"Duuude!" Joey said worried.
"We can clearly see what kind of woman this Ms. Valintine was." Bltizo said and looks at Joey with a grin "Now tell me, Mr. Wheeler, What do you think of her now?"
"J…" Terra said looking at at the drone girl. "I don't think you want him to answer that question."
'Agreed…. Joey has a way of running his mouth in all the wrong directions.' J thinks with a nod and thinks if she should stop it and nods slamming her hands on the bench and said "My client had no idea the victim was seeing other men! That question is irrelevant to this case!"
"Geez!" Blitzo yelled out wincing as he didn't expect that from this new rookie.
"Hey! J! What do you mean, 'irrelevant'?!" Joey said in anger. "Theat cheating she-dog! I'm going to die. I'm just going to drop dead! Yeah, and when I meet her in the afterlife...I'm going to get to the bottom of this!"
Maccadam bangs his gavel and said, "Let's continue with the trial, shall we?"
"Sure, I believe the accused's motive is clear to everyone." Bltizo said shrugging.
"Yes, quite." Maccadam said nodding.
'Oh dear…This is so not looking good.' J thought mentally sweating.
"Next question!" Bltizo said moving on "You went to the victim's apartment on the day of the murder, did you not?" Joey gulps at this "Well, did you, or did you not?"
"Heh? Heh heh. Well, maybe I did, and maybe I didn't!" Joey said deflecting.
'Oh no. He went' J thought concerned. 'Wait…I know! I'll send him a signal…' She then looks sternly at Joey and thinks 'TELL THE TRUTH'
"Err…Yeah! Yeah! I was there! I went!" Joey said nodding.
The audience chatter at this and Maccadam bangs his gavel saying "Order! Well, Mr. Wheeler?"
"Hey, relax! She wasn't home, man…So, like I didn't see her." Joey explained to him.
"OBJECTION!" Bltizo yells out and said, "Your Honor, the defendant is lying."
"Lying?" Maccadam said surprised.
"The prosecution would like to call a witness who can prove Mr. Wheeler is lying." Bltizo said with a smirk
"Well, that simplifies matters." Maccadam said nodding "Who is your witness?"
"Why of course it's the man who found the victim's body." Bltizo explained "Just before making the gruesome discovery…" He looks at Joey who was looking worried "He saw the defendant fleeing the scene of the crime!"
The audience chatter more at this and Maccadam bangs his gavel again "Order! Order in the court!" The judge said. "Mr. Bltiz, the prosecution may call its witness.
"Yes, Your Honor," Bltizo said nodding.
'This is bad…' J thought worried.
"On the day of the murder, my witness was selling newspapers at the victim's building." Bltizo explained "Please bring Mr. Waluigi to the stand!"
J takes a metaphoric breath, this wasn't looking good, she best hope she has a chance to counterattack or Bltizo was going to prove Joey is guilty.
Things aren't looking good. J has to see if she will be able to prove Joey is innocent or it will be over.
