(Chapter 7: Monstrel-Hunting)
It would be a couple of days later after Adrian dealt with Kurumu that he found himself ready to go against the monstrel's that made up Anti-Thesis, the pyromancer having full confidence in his powers to go headhunting after them. Because he knew that if he let them go as far as they would've in canon that it was gonna mean big problems for him in the long run, something that he couldn't allow if he was gonna make it through Yokai in one piece.
On the plus side of things Kurumu had taken his warning/second chance to heart and decided to fly straight and actually get to know the pyromancer instead of trying to turn him into a love slave, which wound up with him getting around to liking the often bubbly and joyous succubus.
(September 17th, 2016, Yokai Academy, 8:40 Pm)
It was the dead of night as Adrian was currently hunting down his first target of Anti-Thesis, a monstrel named Moroha. With Adrian knowing that he'd have to bring his A-game to this fight and all others concerning his targets unless he'd want to have his life go up in flames.
'Alright, let's see if I've got anything that can help me out against this guy.' Adrian thought to himself as he pulled up the abilities he'd get for reaching Level 70 of Pyromancer
Fire-Storm
MP Cost: 14,700
Range: 150 Feet
Description: A storm of roaring flames appears in a location of your choosing. Scorching everything in a 100-foot radius. Each creature within range takes 9,450 + (INT * 10) Fire damage.
Last Rays of the Dying Sun
MP Cost: 10,500
Range: 60 feet
Description: You cause an intense burst of searing heat to explode from your body that damages all enemies within 60 feet of you for 12,600 + (INT*5) fire damage. Followed by a wave of frigid cold that damages them for 12,600 + (INT*5) cold damage.
Delayed Blast Fireball
MP Cost: 9,750 per 10 seconds
Range: 150 feet
Type: Sphere
Description: A beam of golden flame condenses down to a linger at a chosen point in range as a glowing bead of concentrated fire. When the spell ends either due to you breaking concentration or you deciding to end it. All targets within a 20 foot radius will take 10,080 +( INT* 6) Fire damage. You can have this spell remain as a glowing golden bead that will accumulate an additional (3,300+INT) points of fire damage per 10 seconds.
"Again, I got some pretty heavy hitters. Now I have the perfect test subject for one of my new spells." Adrian said to himself as he began to track down Moroha
With it not being long before Adrian tracked down said Monstrel who was taking a walk through the more isolated parts of the school grounds, which was perfect for Adrian as he cast Delayed Blast Fireball and sent the golden bead of arcane flame out at Moroha. Meanwhile, Moroha was enjoying his walk through the school ground as he normally did until he soon saw a glowing golden light that he mistook for a firefly that seemed to fly about the night.
So he decided to try and catch it in the palm of his hands for later, yet the moment he cupped the golden light in his hands it soon began to glow brightly as a searing heat began to fill the immediate area around him as his eyes widened. With the monstrel in question having tried to use his great speed to dash away from it, but was too late as it soon exploded into a dome of golden light that rocked the area, incinerating everything in sight in a near deafening explosion.
While Adrian felt the very substantial drain on his mana reserves he wouldn't deny that the damage dealt was well worth it considering how in the midst of the scorched crater was a heavily burnt Moroha who was reduced to his sweatpants turned into shorts. Moroha's entire being on the other hand was screaming in terrible pain as his flesh was heavily charred and burnt, every nerve and muscle firing off in agonizing pain as he staggered and struggled to move.
"Man that's super effective. Mental note make more use of Delayed Blast Fireball for sneak attacks." Adrian noted to himself at the devastating effectiveness of said spell
"I...I don't know...who ...But when I get my hands on you..your...your...dead!" Moroha exclaimed wearily and more pained than angry as he shifted his arms into deadly cleaver like blades as his weary form looked around for his mystery assailant
Moroha stood there awaiting the mysterious threat in knowing that it would be foolish of him to go out blindly and attack, with what felt like hours upon hours that only added to a growing sense of paranoia of where and how his mystery attacker would lash out at him. The monstrel in question soon had to dodge and parry a salvo of Scorching Rays that burst into the night and illuminated it in emerald radiance, yet thanks to his greatly wounded state was still subject to a great number of the incendiary attacks.
Adrian all the while was looking out at the Monstrel and making sure he stayed clear out of view from him, fully knowing that if he was caught by Moroha even in his weakened state that it wouldn't take long for the distance to be closed and himself to be a goner. Hence why he cast Pyroblast 5 consecutive times all aimed at Moroha's legs, with Moroha half walking and half limping throughout the night managed to evade 3 of the large chunks of flaming rock, however the other 2 crashed into his left leg with a vengeance and exploded with great force.
Moroha was sent skidding to the ground his leg a broken and charred mess that was mangled from the attack, with him having tried to put pressure on it but the amount of pain he was in combined with him fading in and out of consciousness made doing so nigh-impossible. So seeing his target on his last legs and rendered immobile, Adrian decided to finish things and launched 4 Fireballs in rapid succession of each other the 4 spheres of emerald flame rapidly colliding with and exploding onto Moroha who was turned to ashes within mere moments.
"Alright that's one down, about 6 or 7 more to go." Adrian said to himself as he took out his kill list from his inventory and crossed off Moroha's name
'This is gonna be one hell of a school year, that's for certain.' Adrian thought to himself as he used Misty Step to teleport away from the scene of the crime
(The next day later, September 18th, 2016, Yokai Academy, 2:10 Pm)
It was more or less a cloudy afternoon later as Adrian had after messing around with his Artist class in order to come up with more ideas for inventions with his Engineer class, decided to take a break and enjoy the nice day outside.
"...Why do I smell cookies?" Adrian wondered as he took his headphones off as he smelled the heavy aroma of cookies
"Oh that's why." Adrian thought to himself in seeing Kurumu run over to him
"Hey, Adrian!" Kurumu greeted
"Hi Kurumu, how've you been?" Adrian asked in genuinely wanting to know how the succubus was doing
"I-I've been doing ok. By the way I made you some cookies. I hope you like them" Kurumu said as she handed him a bag full of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies
"You didn't have to do this for me ya know. Not that I'm complaining." Adrian said as he opened up the bag of cookies and began eating one of them
"I figured that after you spared me that this was one of the things I could do to repay you." Kurumu told him in wanting to start repaying him after allowing her to live
"Well, this is a great start! Because these are some really great cookies!" Adrian said as he would admit to one thing in that Kurumu made some fantastic cookies
"Thank you, I'm glad you like them." Kurumu responded being happy that the pyromancer loved her cookies
"Oh yeah, actually could you maybe make some more for me. Again I don't mean to repeat myself but these are some really great cookies." Adrian told her as he cursed his sweet tooth for him already being on his 3rd cookies but in his defense they were really good ones
With it being that even when he was a kid growing up in his past life that his one true weakness was his massive sweet tooth, as one thing that he couldn't deny was that he had an nigh-overwhelming love of all things swee-related. From cookies to brownies, to cupcakes and pies and everything else in-between and then some Adrian had a weakness for it, something that he couldn't help as it wasn't his fault that they were so damned delicious
"Of course, I'll bring you some more tonight." Kurumu said which made the pyromancer perk-up immensely at hearing that

'At least I know one way to get to his heart. Now I'm really glad that I learned how to get good at making sweets in my spare time.' Kurumu thought to herself in having seen firsthand of how much of a sweet tooth that Adrian had by how much candy and baked goods he'd regularly get
"Still is everything going ok with ya?" Adrian asked as he continued to munch on his cookies
"Its been going ok, except for my math classes with Mrs. Riruko." Kurumu answered back in cursing her math and algebra class with said teacher
"Let me guess. Algebra and all things math-related are your kryptonite?" Adrian guessed gedding a nod from the succubus
"I don't know what it is, but math is the one class I completely suck at." Kurumu said in knowing full well that it was by far her worst subject
"It doesn't help that this little turd keeps rubbing it in my face that I'm at it. That she's so much smarter and superior than everyone else." Kurumu added in frustration of a certain witch that continued to irritate her no matter what
"Alright, level with me, who is said turd?" Adrian asked as to who the little shit was
"Her name is Yukari, and she is such a little shit that thinks just because she skipped a few grades she's everything under the sun." Kurumu replied heatedly at the fact that in the short time Yukari had been in classes with her she made her super irritated
Because it wasn't bad enough that she sucked absolute shit at math and struggled with and completely bombed at it consistently in her life, but to add insult to injury this little shit who couldn't be more than 12 or 13 practically breezed through it all. Then to top it off constantly ridiculed her for her poor grades and her acting superior to everyone, on top of dropping wash tubs on her head was starting to get on her last nerves.
"Well, I can help ya out with your math troubles." Adrian offered which got a wide smile from the succubus
"Y-You'll really help me out?" Kurumu asked as the pyromancer shrugged while devouring his 5th cookie
"Of course, its no skin off my back to help ya out. Besides, everything that goes on in Mrs. Riruko's class I pretty much breeze through. Heck, not to toot my own horn or anything. But I could do all of her work and assignments with my eyes closed and still ace it, with no problem." Adrian answered back as it wasn't gonna be much of a problem to tutor Kurumu all things considered since he could pretty much sleepwalk his way through said class
"Thank you, Adrian you're the best!" Kurumu cheered as she glomped onto Adrian
'Man, my life is awesome. So once again I definitely made the right choice in frying Tsukune, since it leads to this.' Adrian thought to himself as he enjoyed his marshmallow hell in Kurumu's immense cleavage
"Its no problem at all, Kurumu. Besides, I do like you and all that. So doing this for you is something I'm fine with doing, since I hardly have anything else to do." Adrian spoke after being released from his smothering under the succubus's large rack
"So tell ya what, you set up a time and date and I'll be over there as soon as possible to help you out." Adrian told her with a warm smile on his face to really help pour it on

"Does this Tuesday work for you?" Kurumu asked the pyromancer if that was a good date for him
"Sure why not. I'll be over to your dorm room then." Adrian said as he gained another hug from the succubus
'Suck it you little shit! Now I'll finally get enough help so you'll stop fucking with me.' Kurumu thought to herself happy at the fact that with Adrian's help her grades would improve to make Yukari's ridicule moot
'Again these are some awesome cookies! Mental note, get Kurumu to make me more of these.' Adrian thought to himself in desiring more cookies and sweets to feed his sweet tooth
(4 days later, Yokai Academy, September 22nd, 2016, 9:45 Pm)
It was a quarter till 10 at night as Adrian was now hunting down another one of the Monstrels, one by the name of Mizuki Ueshiba and was currently hiding in some bushes waiting for the chance when his target would make themselves known.
'I swear once I get my Engineer class high enough. I should really invest in making some stealth tech. That would really go great with my ambushes. Better yet some attack drones would be dope and help out in laying suppressive fire while I charge up the big stuff.' Adrian thought to himself in knowing firsthand that the invention of stealth and camouflage technology would really help him out
"Now all I have to do is keep waitin' on Mizuki here. Then the real fun can begin." Adrian said to himself as he cracked his knuckles
So without anything else to really do until his target got here he pulled a bottle of cranberry juice and some of the cookies Kurumu made for him out of his inventory and proceeded to eat and drink for the next 20 minutes. Once time had passed he finally saw said monstrel who had strawberry blonde hair, slightly pasty skin and dark green eyes and stood at average height, wearing a long-sleeved striped shirt and blue jeans with black and red high-top sneakers.
With Mizuki's good mood being ruined as Adrian cast Scorching Ray twice-over causing an unsuspecting monstrel to be bombarded the unaware Monstrel with streaks of bright emerald that struck at him like machine-gun fire. The Monstrel having been knocked to the ground by the bombardment, his flesh suffering major burns to his person as he struggled to get back up, every movement made to rise up to his feet and even turn his neck proved agonizing.
Yet it wouldn't end there as Adrian's hands briefly glowed a deep shade of Harlequin green as he pressed his hands against the ground and cast Blasted Ground where Mizuki was, who was currently trying to dig his way out of whatever happened. Only for him to soon have the ground beneath and around him crack apart and burst into bubbling magma that forced him to fall on his knees, his legs giving out from under him as he fell to the ground halfway between his monster and human forms as a charred mess of flesh.
So seeing the monstrel appearing to be on its last legs Adrian decided to end it by unleashing a barrage of Psybeams onto Mizuki who was busy trying to crawl his way from the scorched earth and boiling rock beneath him. With the monstrel in question seeing his life flash before in a multitude of multicolored lights that collided with him like artillery fire, striking him center mass as the psionic energy soon overwhelmed him and with a final thud as blood began to leak from his nose, mouth and eyes.
"That takes care of that, but just to make sure." Adrian said to himself as he cast Flamethrower on Mizuki and burn the monstrels body to ashes
"Honestly, I expected more from these guys." Adrian added in having thought they would've put up more of a fight
What did you expect to happen? This one was the weakest of all of the monstrels in Anti-Thesis. So you getting a quick and easy win was a given.
"Fair point I suppose. Still I expected some kind of a challenge out of him. Instead of him dying really quickly" Adrian spoke in barely getting to Level 73 because of Mizuk's death
"So quick question? Where would I stand concerning a fair chance against someone like Ruby? Because I would like to know how I stack up against another spellcaster." Adrian wondered in wanting to know where he'd stand
I'd say max out your Pyromancy class and a bit into what you're going to choose as your advanced class. Then I'd say you'd stand a chance. Because she and her master can still pose a threat to you as you stand right now. So I'd make sure to be on your A-game when you eventually go up against her.
"Good to know. Now then, where do I stand in terms of being able to kill Kuyo? Knowing that self-righteous dick, I'm gonna eventually have to square up with him." Adrian questioned as he wanted to know where he'd stand against the kitsune
At this point, the only thing that gives you a minuscule chance against him is your resistance to fire. Other than that your chances of winning against him are pretty slim.
"Go figure they would be. The only real spells I have to damage him are Sunburst which takes up a huge chunk of my mana. Evard's Black Tentacles can only do so much to restrain him. Psybeam and Thunderwave are good, but not enough to make a real dent in him." Adrian said to himself in realizing that his only options against fighting Kuyo now were vastly limited
"To top it off, my Martial Artist class is nowhere near good enough for me to square up with him in hand to hand. Which more than likely means I'm fucked." Adrian added in knowing full well that he was more than likely screwed against Kuyo
With the Gamer realizing that for all his prowess in terms of fire magic he was coming up against a wall when it came to having a accurately good chance of beating the kitsune, as the only thing that gave him a chance of survival being that of his Fire Resistance...even then that would only go so far. Therefore, Adrian found himself up against a wall for when he would eventually have to go up against and kill the kitsune where he stood.
My suggestion to you is once your done with Pyromancy. Start investing in some other branches of magic. Because if you want to stand any chance against him, then you'll need to diversify your options.
"I figured. But I'll figure that out once I'm on winter break since I'll have plenty of time for that." Adrian responded as he planned on using the winter break to get ideas for what new classes he could go into so as to diversify his arcane and martial arsenal
'Until then I'm gonna go and get to work on more blueprints for stuff I need to build. The idea of stealth tech really sounds like a good idea.' Adrian thought to himself before heading off back to his door room
(The next day later, 3:45 Pm, Yokai Academy, September 23rd, 2016)
It was the next day later as Adrian after getting mail in the form of some books he bought for Moka, and was currently heading over to her door room to deliver them.
"Oh, hi Adrian, come in." Moka said as she welcomed the pyromancer into her dorm room
"Thanks, Moka. By the way I got you a little somethin'. Adrian told her as he began to dig into his backpack and fish around for the books he got Moka
"I know it ain't much, but here ya go." Adrian spoke as he presented the small stack of medical books to the vampire
"Thank you, Adrian!" Moka said happily at receiving the gift

"Its no problem. What are friends for after all." Adrian responded
"So tell me, Moka. How's everything been?" Adrian asked the pinkette before him
"Its been going great and all. I've also been doing really good in my classes." Moka told him as so far she's been doing quite well all things considered
"I'm sensing a but coming along." Adrian surmised in knowing that despite her bright smile and cheery demeanor that something else was going on
"But I've been having some...problems with someone." Moka told him
"Do you want me to handle it? Because it won't take me too long to make them cut out what they're doing." Adrian asked as all she had to do is say the word and he'd incinerate whoever was messing with her on the spot
"No, no its nothing that you need to get involved in. Its just that one of the people in our homerooms, named Yukari won't leave me alone." Moka answered back with a shudder at the fact that no matter how many times she told Yukari to stop her antics she wouldn't
With it starting harmless at first as Moka just saw it as someone just wanting a friend to hang around and didn't pay no mind as she started walking with her nearly everywhere, but once it graduated to shamelessly groping at her chest and proclaiming that she and Moka were 'girlfriends' much to the vampires dismay.
"Yeah, Kurumu told me about her. Which is why I'm pretty sure that I should start getting involved. Because at the rate this is going, its becoming a problem." Adrian spoke as the more he was hearing of Yukari's antics the more it felt like he should get involved
"Adrian, it's fine. I can handle it." Moka assured Adrian in not wanting to get the pyromancer involved
"Look I'm just trying to look out for ya, alright. Because if no one else will be there to watch your back, I will. That's why your problems become mine, and if Yukari is causing you problems. Then as your friend I should help in handling them." Adrian told her as he knew that if this wasn't nipped in the bud then it was gonna cause problems later down the line
"I told you I'll be fine Adrian. There's nothing to worry about, really." Moka assured the pyromancer
"...Alright, I'll take your word...for now. However, if she keeps messing with you or Kurumu. Then it becomes my fucking problem." Adrian said to the vampire as the more Yukari was gonna keep pulling her bullshit the more Adrian would decide to step in
"Anyways, I just wanted to give you these and see how you were doing." Adrian added in deciding to drop the subject for now
"Thank you, Adrian, I appreciate it." Moka said before long enough said his goodbyes
"As much as I never thought I'd say this and I really don't want to. It would be best to have him deal with the witch and be done with it." Inner Moka said from within the rosary in seeing Adrian handling Yukari to be a clear cut solution
"I can't let him just go and handle it. She doesn't deserve to die." Moka responded in knowing full well that Adrian's handling of Yukari wouldn't end well
With her knowing that with Adrian's kindness towards her and even Kurumu that he still had a fearsome and volatile temper that in the short time at Yokai Academy that even some of the more aggressive students were starting to get wary to challenge him. Combining this with the fact that the pyromancer had absolutely no scruples about murdering people, Moka was very much hesitant to let Adrian handle Yukari as she didn't want for the witch to be turned to ashes.
"She's an utter pest. If I had my way about it, her antics would've ceased long ago." Inner Moka spoke as had she been pestered by Yukari the witch wouldn't have gotten away with this for as long as she had
"How you would've handled it would've resulted in an innocent girl being turned to paste. Something that is the main reason why I wouldn't want you or Adrian to handle things." Moka spoke in knowing that had her inner self handled things with Yukari then the witch would be a bloodstain on the school grounds
"Then how do you intend to handle the witch? Even you know that the longer this persists the worse its going to get." Inner Moka inquired as to how her outer self was going to handle this
"I'll think of something that won't have things resort to violence, or worse Adrian getting involved." Moka said in not wanting to have things resort to violence or worse yet have Adrian's temper spike and him burning Yukari to death
"Then you better think of something. I may not be able to do much from within the rosary. However, if Adrian does get involved and kills the witch. I won't shed any tears over what happens." Inner Moka responded because if Yukari did get incinerated then she wouldn't give a single shit over it
"...I'll try to think of something. I just really hope that it doesn't come to that." Moka hoped at the fact that things didn't have to come down to that
So with Adrian having begun his headhunting of the Monstrels within Anti-Thesis and Yukari's antics making themselves known to the pyromancer, how will things begin to unfold for our Gamer? Well, find all of that out next time in the new chapters of A Gamer among Monsters.
That being done and over with, let's get onto some of the reviews from the last chapter.
jenes-db: I'd assume so considering that regardless of gender that a succubus would still gain energy from whoever they'd drain.
TheOnlyKing: Yeah that bothers me as well. Considering that Kurumu has the capacity to get super strong, but where she stands in her debut. She was really not that much of a threat to Adrian.
NazgulBelserion: Trust me I'm going right ahead in drawing inspiration from Akainu.
Lq840i: I never thought to go that route when the Game was screwing with him in terms of him sleeping with a Succubus. I plan on getting around to Kotsubo eventually, considering that one shitty thing about Rosario Vampire is that they don't really give an accurate timeline of how things happen. So I pretty much have to wing it on when events occur. Also, when he does go to Harry Potter he's gonna be learning a number of new magical disciplines to really give him far more to work with in terms of an arcane arsenal. Along with some other plans he'll have in motion when he gets there. Also, it bugs me that as far as education goes that a muggle who goes to Hogwarts has the real-life education of a 5th or 6th grader.
lazyguy90: Yeah once he gets his Advanced Class. He's gonna be channeling Akainu more and more as time goes on, as that man is a dope character in One Piece.
Soulbow109: Yeah the thing is that considering how people in Rosario Vampire can literally get away with murder at Yokai along with all the other bullshit their, I'm pretty sure the students won't give a fuck or even register the surveilance drones masquerading as Security Cameras. Also, I do plan on her becoming an assassin type fighter in the future. Considering that it makes a butt-ton of sense to do considering her character and her mother. Also, you are right that Kurumu is pretty harmless compared to what the other monsters do at Yokai and in all fairness is a sweetheart when you think about it.
LordAsmodeus (Chapters 4,6) The thing is that while he's all for getting a sexy woman under his belt. If they do legitimately piss him off then screw how hot they are, they will fucking die regardless. Considering that thanks to his Sin of Wrath flaw, once you piss him off he will come for your neck no matter what and who you are. Since Adrian does understand the dangers of lust and for the most part doesn't really fall for seduction attempts as he's not an overly lustful guy all things considered.
demzerff1: With how powerful Adrian is and continues to grow it makes more sense that Kurumu would be overall more attracted to him, as well as the fact that he carries himself with more confidence than Tsukune as well. Also, the thing is that Adrian is for the most part a pretty chill guy its just that he has a really volatile temper as well as him not really having much of a concern for life in any capacity. Yeah with Yukari..well you're gonna have to find out what happens to her next chapter is all I will say on the matter for now. I may introduce Nekonome into the story later on when there will be more breathing room in the next half of the 1st Year at Yokai Academy.
That takes care of that as I hoped you guys enjoyed that chapter and all that went along with it. So without further delay, let's get down to it now shall we.
First up we've got Adrian taking out Moroha with the debut of some of his higher-tier Pyromancer spells which I hoped y'all liked in showing once again how Adrian operates as an ambush predator.
After that we've got a neat little bit between Kurumu and Adrian which I hoped y'all liked as a minor bit of fluff between the two.
Next up is Adrian getting rid of another monstrel member and not much else beyond that.
Lastly, we've got Adrian giving Moka some gifts and some setup for what's to come next chapter which I thought would be a neat little thing to do.
All that being said please favorite, follow, review and share this story out as much as possible. And flames for the most part will be ignored because at the point you're mainly wasting mine and everyone's time. Other than that constructive criticism and ideas on how to improve things are welcome.
