Chapter 3: Making A New Friend! Enter Wally!

Upon reaching Petalburg City, Michael had decided to bring out the Psychic-Type siblings so they could see the world as they traveled. He had also decided to nickname the Ralts twins so it was easier to tell them apart until the male one had fully evolved into Gallade. He let the male Ralts keep its name, while naming the female Ralts Ralty to be able to tell them apart for the time being.

Michael - "Here we are girls. Welcome to Petalburg City."

?/? - "Michael!"

Michael quickly stepped out of the way as Pinkie and Whitney tried to tackle him to the ground. Meanwhile, Bae walked up, shaking her head at Pinkie and Whitney's antics.

Clair - "You two really need to stop doing that before you both hurt yourselves."

Pinkie/Whitney - "Yes mom..."

Clair - "Be thankful Roxanne's not with us right now Whitney. Otherwise, she'd be giving you both more of an earful than I am right now."

Whitney quickly paled at hearing that. Everyone then entered the Pokémon Center to heal up.

Michael - "So Pinkie. You and Bae find any new Pokémon yet?"

Bae - "I haven't. But Pinkie's gotten a Hoennian Zigzagoon and a Wingull already."

Pinkie brought out her two newest catches.

Michael - "You've already raised them both well Pinkie."

Pinkie - "Hehe. Thanks Michael. And Rainbow said I could catch Wingull so I have a Pokémon to fight back against Grass-Types."

Michael - "That's nice of her."

Whitney - "Hey Clair. What say we introduce Michael to Norman?"

Clair - "Good idea Whitney."

Michael - "You girls sure about me meeting Norman right now?"

Whitney - "Of course. Sure, Norman's the fifth Gym Leader you face to get to the Hoenn League, but he's also the first one you come across when starting from Littleroot Town."

Michael - "That's true. Alright then. Let's do it."

Soon Michael and the girls collected their Pokémon from Nurse Joy. Then they exited the Pokémon Center and headed for the Petalburg Gym. Upon entering the Gym, they spotted a tall man with a white zipped shirt worn under a maroon jacket standing in the back of the room.

Whitney - "Norman! We're back!"

Norman - "Hey there Whitney. Sorry. But I have nothing else for you, Pinkie, and Bae to do right now."

Pinkie - "That's ok. We wanted to introduce you to some of the rest of our friends instead."

Norman then looked past Whitney, Pinkie, and Bae to see the rest of the traveling party.

Norman - "So this is the rest of the current party. Nice to see you again Clair."

Clair - "Likewise Norman."

Norman - "And these three must be Michael, Ruby, and Weiss."

Michael/Ruby/Weiss - "Nice to meet you Mr. Norman."

Norman - "Please. Just Norman. You three don't have to be so formal with me."

Michael - "Sorry Norman. Force of habit on my end."

Norman - "Don't worry about it."

Then everyone turned to see a sickly-looking boy with green hair walk into the gym and over to Norman.

? - "Um... I... I'd like to get a Pokémon, please..."

Norman - "Hm? You're... Uh... Oh, right. You're Wally, right?"

Wally - "Yes sir. I'm going to go stay with my relatives in Verdanturf Town. I thought I would be lonely by myself, so I wanted to take a Pokémon along. But I've never caught a Pokémon before. I don't know how..."

Norman - "Hm. I see. Michael, you and the girls heard that, right?"

Michael - "Sure thing Norman. We'll make sure that Wally safety catches a Pokémon."

Norman - "Good. And here Wally. I'll loan you my Pokémon."

Norman then gave Wally a Zigzagoon for him to borrow.

Wally - "Oh, wow! A Pokémon!"

Norman - "Hm. I'll give you a Poké Ball, too. Go for it!"

Wally was then given a Poké Ball by Norman.

Wally - "Oh, wow! Thank you! Michael... Would you and your friends really come with me?"

Michael - "Of course Wally. Anything to help a future fellow Trainer."

Wally - "Thank you then."

Wally then led Michael and the girls out of the gym and back onto Route 102.

Wally - "Michael... Pokémon hide in tall grass like this, don't they?"

Michael - "Yes, they do Wally. Just don't rush yourself and you'll do fine."

Wally - "Of course. Whoa!"

Wally was caught off guard as a wild male Ralts appeared in front of him. He then quickly composed himself and brought out the Zigzagoon Norman had loaned him.

Wally - "Use Tackle!"

Ralts - "Rawr!"

While Zigzagoon had done a decent amount of damage to Ralts, Ralts had answered back by using Growl, causing Zigzagoon's Attack to be lowered.

Zigzagoon: Attack -1

Wally - "Use Tackle again!"

Ralts - "Rawr!"

The 2 Pokémon repeated the cycle over.

Zigzagoon: Attack -2

Wally - "Zigzagoon, that's enough! Come back!"

Wally suddenly returned Zigzagoon.

Wally - "You throw a Poké ball now, right?"

Michael - "Yes Wally. You can do this."

Wally pulled out the empty Poké Ball Norman had given him. He then threw the ball at Ralts, which hit the Psychic-Type in the head and sucked him inside.

One shake.

Two shakes.

Three shakes.

-Click-

Party - "He Did It!"

Wally was just as stunned as the others.

Wally - "I did it... It's my... My Pokémon! Michael, girls, thank you! Let's go back to the gym!"

Everyone then returned to the Petalburg Gym. Norman was standing in the center of the entrance room, waiting to hear the results.

Norman - "So, did it work out?"

Wally - "Thank you, yes, it did. Here's your Pokémon back."

Wally handed Norman back the loaned Zigzagoon.

Wally - "Michael, girls, thank you for coming along with me. You all are why I was able to catch my Pokémon. I promise I'll take really good care of him. Oh! My mom's waiting for me, so I have to go! Bye guys!"

Wally then quickly exited the gym.

Norman - "I know he'll go far."

Michael - "Agreed. It'll be a slow process at first, but Wally will be an amazing Trainer through hard work and skill."

Norman - "Anyway. with how late it's getting, why don't you all join my family and I for dinner."

Michael - "That ok with you girls?"

Girls - "Sure."

Michael - "We're in then."

Norman - "Alright!"

Alongside Norman were his wife Caroline and their kids, daughter May and son Max. After thanking Caroline for the meal, the party returned to the Pokémon Center to rest for the night. After a good night's rest, the party had breakfast and left Petalburg City. While walking along the Southern side of Route 104, Michael caught a Taillow and sent her home to Pokémon Island. They then stopped at the entrance to Petalburg Woods.

Michael - "Here we go. Another forest trek. However... Something tells me that this time will be different."
