Chapter 5: A Rocky Learning Experience! Battle For The Stone Badge!
Michael - "Here we are girls. Welcome to Rustboro City."
The girls, minus Clair and Whitney, were amazed at how big Rustboro City was. Then they quickly made a stop at the Pokemon Center to rest up before Michael's gym challenge.
? - "There they are!"
The party looked towards the source of the voice to find Rarity, and surprisingly Akira, walking over to them.
Michael - "Hey Rarity. Good to see you. And what are you doing here Akira?"
Akira - "I got a call from the Presidents of BOTH Sliph Corporation and Devon Corporation to meet them here in Devon Corp's head office to talk about my business deal with them."
Michael - "Really? That's awesome sis!"
The girls were puzzled at what Michael was talking about, so he and Akira quickly filled them in on the current situation.
Pinkie - "That truly is incredible Akira."
Ruby - "Yeah. This B-Wheel idea of yours will make Pokémon battling much more fun."
Michael - "By the way, have you gotten any further on it since between when I left home and now?"
Akira - "I actually got the call just yesterday. So, I decided to take a much-needed break and fly out here now so I wasn't late for the meeting."
Weiss - "When is the meeting?"
Akira - "Tomorrow actually. But I came early in case you guys showed up before hand and I was able to watch my big bro have a Gym Battle."
Bae - "Have you watched Michael challenge a Pokémon gym before?"
Akira - "Twice actually. First was when he battled Elite Four Koga's daughter Janine, who has just been named the new Gym Leader of Fuchsia City. And the other was when he battled Gym Leader Blaine, along with Lady Mewtwo and Lady Moltres, at Cinnabar Island."
Michael - "Mom, Hilda, and Jeanne were there too. So, they're the only other ones besides Akira to watch me challenge a Pokémon Gym in person."
Akira - "By the way, Mom says that all of the Pokémon you sent home, including Lord Jirachi, arrived safely."
Michael - "That's good to hear. Also, here's the ones I've kept on me so far."
Michael then brought out Buneary, Ralts, Ralty, and Hatenna.
Michael - "Akira. This is the Ralts twins, their sister Hatenna, and Buneary. Guys. This is Akira, my younger twin sister."
Buneary/Ralts/Ralty/Hatenna - "Nice to meet you Akira."
Akira - "Nice to meet you four as well. Gotta admit Michael. You picked four super cute Pokemon to keep on your journey."
Michael - "To be honest. I'm VERY lucky to have a Buneary and Hattena with me right now alongside a pair of Ralts twins."
? - "Clair. Whitney. There you both are."
Michael and the girls turned towards the source of the voice, which was a young woman that was wearing a grey dress with a white shirt under it, along with burgundy stockings and a burgundy ribbon which tied her hair together like a bow on a present.
(Author's Note: All Gym Leaders, Elite Four Members, and Champion Steven will be wearing their ORAS outfits.)
Clair/Whitney - "Roxanne!"
Both women ran over and hugged Roxanne, happy to see their fellow Gym Leader.
Roxanne - "Great to see you both as well. So, how the journey going so far?"
Whitney - "It's been amazing! Especially all the battle and catches Michael's made."
Roxanne looked towards Michael, then felt her cheeks turn bright red upon seeing the young man she had fallen for in front of her. The rest of the girls giggled at seeing Roxanne's embarrassed expression.
Clair - "Don't worry Roxanne. Michael already knows about your feelings for him."
Roxanne - "Did you both seriously tell him how me and the rest of the female Gym Leaders felt?!"
Michael - "They did. But I didn't truly believe it until Bea and Iono joined us at Cianwood Town."
Roxanne buried her face in her hands, outright embarrassed with herself. Michael then quickly cleared his throat.
Michael - "Anyway. May I ask why you're here?"
Roxanne - "Oh, right. Well, I'm here on my lunch break. And I've met Rarity and Akira already. Rarity told me that you and those of your group so far would be here today."
Michael - "So you need my help then?"
Clair - "Roxanne's not only Rustboro City's Gym Leader, but she's also a teacher at the city's Pokémon Trainer's school."
Michael - "So you need me to put on a show for your students then?"
Roxanne - "Yes please."
Michael then smiled.
Michael - "That's all? Then why didn't you say so in the first place."
Roxanne was just as stunned as the rest of the girls.
Roxanne - "So you'll do it then?"
Michael - "Of course. In fact, let's head over to the school to have everything ready before lunch is over."
Roxanne then quickly led the party out of the Pokémon Center and towards the Trainer's school. They arrived on the school grounds as the bell to end lunch rang.
Roxanne - "Ok let me head in and inform the principal about this. Then he and I will escort my class out here."
Michael - "Clair. You and Whitney go with Roxanne to back her up."
Clair/Whitney - "Right."
The female Gym Leader trio walked together into the school. After ten to fifteen minutes, they finally came back out, alongside the school's principal and Roxanne's entire class.
Roxanne - "Ok class. Today's lesson on battle training will be a special one. Alongside my fellow Gym Leaders from Johto, Whitney and Clair, we also have the newly crowned champion of Kanto AND Johto, Michael Masi and his friends from Pokémon Island."
The students were excited. Not only did today's lesson involve three Gym Leaders, one of which was their own teacher, but the new champion of Kanto and Johto as well.
Michael - "Ok boys and girls. Your amazing teacher Roxanne here informed us on the way over that you all are learning about Double Battles, which is also a specialty here in the Hoenn region. So, for today's lesson, I'll take part in two Double Battles. The first will be against the team of Clair and Whitney, and the second will be against two of you. Now, Roxanne has already decided on the student pairing. But I want you all to remember this. No matter who your partner Trainer is in a Double Battle, ALL Trainers have to go out there and have fun. Can you all do that for me?"
Students - "Yes Champion Michael!"
Michael - "Good! Now let's get this show on the road. Roxanne. Would you be so kind as to act as the official for both double battles?"
Roxanne - "Of course."
Michael, Clair, and Whitney each took opposite sides of one of the school's battlefields, while Roxanne took her spot in the Referee's box.
Roxanne - "This is a 2-on-2 Double Battle between the duo of Johto Gym Leaders Whitney & Clair and Michael Masi of Pokémon Island. The battle will continue until all Pokémon on either side are knocked out. Are both sides ready?"
All three Trainers then activated their Battle Disks.
Michael/Clair/Whitney - "Ready!"

Clair - "Water Booster! Use Hydro Pump on Dragcaria!"
Whitney - "Rock Booster! Use Rollout on Delcatty!"
Michael - "Dodge those attacks and answer back with Thunder Ice and Dragon Aura Pulse!"
Clair's Hand: 6 – 1 = 5

All four Pokémon were quickly on the move. Miltank rolled along the ground at Delcatty who easily dodged out of the way. However, as Dragcaria was running to dodge the torrent of water being fired at her by Clair's Kingdra, she suddenly felt a pain in her chest, which then caused her to stumble and get hit by the Hydro Pump.
Michael - "Dragcaria!"
The Hydro Pump quickly stopped. Dragcaria was then very slow to get up, breathing very heavily with every movement, seeing like she was in constant pain.
Michael - "Roxanne! Permission to check on Dragcaria despite entering the battlefield?"
Roxanne - "Permission granted!"
Michael then rushed over to check on Dragcaria, Delcatty alongside him.
Michael - "You ok there Dragcaria?"
Dragcaria - "Just... Fine..."
Michael went to put his hand on Dragcaria's left shoulder, when he was suddenly shocked without even touching her.
Michael - "Aura Sight!"
Michael quickly activated his Aura Sight, seeing a massive amount of aura coming off of Dragcaria's entire body.
Michael - "Damn! She'll overload if I don't think of something quickly!"
Michael then felt the tingling sensation in his right hand due to being shocked by Dragcaria. Upon checking his right hand to make sure he could still move and feel it, he noticed his Key Ring. An idea then formed in his head.
Michael - "Wait! That's it! Lucario can Mega Evolve. And since Dragcaria's a dragonified version of a female Lucario, it's possible for her to as well. Only one way to find to though."
Michael transformed into his inner soul form. He then lightly grabbed Dragcaria by her shoulders and turned her to face him.
Michael - "Dragcaria. Do you trust me?"
Dragcaria - "Why are you asking me that? Of course I do!"
Michael - "I'm only asking cause what I'm about to do will short-term help you."
Dragcaria - "Then do it. Anything to make this pain go away."
Michael stood up and quickly returned to his Trainer's box. Dragcaria very slowly stood up as well.

Michael - "Lady Arceus, hear my plea! Let my bond with Dragcaria bring the birth of a new power! Go! Mega Evolution!"
Arcs of energy connected between Michael's Key Ring and Dragcaria. Then the energy covered Dragcaria entirely, making her mega evolve.
Michael - "Appear! Mega Dragcaria!"
Dragcaria roared majestically as she took on a new form. Compared to the Mega form Lucario were known for, Dragcaria's was completely different. Alongside her normal wings and dragon-like tail, she had also gained a pair of angel wings and a crown, along with making a staff out of her own aura.
Michael - "Dragon Sword, Fighting Sword, and Steel Sword! No hard feelings girls. But I need to end this double battle as quickly as possible."
Clair - "It's ok Michael."
Whitney - "Yeah. You have our support for this decision."
Michael - "Dragcaria! Mega Dragon Aura Cannon!"
Michael's Hand: 7 – 3 = 4
Dragon Sword (Michael): Turn 1/3
Fighting Sword (Michael): Turn 1/3
Steel Sword (Michael): Turn 1/3
Dragon Pulse's Current Power: 85 + 42.5 = 127.5 + 25.5 = 153 x 2 = 306
Aura Pulse's Current Power: 85 + 42.5 = 127.5 + 25.5 = 153 x 2 = 306
Flash Cannon's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120 + 24 = 144 x 2 = 288
Dragon Aura Cannon's Current Power: 306 + 306 = 612 + 288 = 900 x 2 = 1,800
Dragcaria slammed her aura staff into the ground. She then charged up a blast in the staff's head, before pointing it at Kingdra and Miltank. Once the blast was at full power, Dragcaria fired it, making both opponents get caught in the blast. The dust then quickly settled, showing Kingdra and Miltank knocked out.
Roxanne - "Kingdra and Miltank are unable to battle! Dragcaria and Delcatty win! So Michael wins the Double Battle!"
(Music Ends)
The crowd cheered for Michael's win despite how one-sided it was. Dragcaria then returned to normal, followed by back backwards towards the ground. Thankfully, Michael quickly swooped in and caught her.
Dragcaria - "Sorry Michael..."
Michael - "It's ok Dragcaria. Just rest for now. You're earned it."
Dragcaria slowly nodded her head, then let exhaustion take her.
Michael - "I'll take her to the Pokémon Center for now. Akira. Why don't you and the girls teach Roxanne's students about our home island till I get back?"
Akira - "Go idea big bro. See you in a bit."
Michael then rushed off to the Pokémon Center, Dragcaria in his arms. Meanwhile, Akira took the time to answer any questions that Roxanne's students had. After five to ten minutes, Michael finally returned.
Roxanne - "How's Dragcaria?"
Michael - "She's fine for now. Just needs a good rest and she'll be back to normal. I WILL have to inform the Professors about this though."
Akira - "I'll back you up on that Michael."
Michael - "Thanks sis. So. What questions have the students asked so far?"
Weiss - "Mostly just ones about how things work on our home island."
Michael quickly understood the situation. He then stepped forward.
Michael - "Does anyone else have one more question before we start the second Double Battle?"
A male student, Jerry, raised his hand.
Michael - "Yes?"
Jerry - "Do you guys have an official Pokémon League on your home island?"
Michael - "Sadly, no. We don't."
The students seemed upset at hearing that.
Michael - "However. Given enough time, that may very well change soon."
Roxanne - "What do you mean by that?"
Michael - "Well to make it official, all CURRENT League Champions must unanimously agree to it. Sadly, there's only one League Champion that still hates my guts right now."
Clair - "Oh right. Her."
Ruby - "Who?"
Michael - "Cynthia. Sinnoh's Champion."
Weiss - "She STILL hates you?"
Michael - "Sadly yes. Lance told me that he and Leon have joined the others in trying to convince her that she's being lied to about me. But, she still hasn't budged on the matter at all. But that's ok. I can be patient. I have a feeling she'll change her before long."
Jerry - "So how's your Pokémon League gonna go once it's legal?"
Michael - "Well everyone knows that every Pokémon Region, minus Alola, has a League with eight Gyms, an Elite Four, and a Champion. But, our Pokémon League will be different."
Sammy - "Different how?"
Michael - "And there's the million Poké question. Well first, instead of facing eight gyms to earn the right challenge the League itself, you instead have to beat ten. In fact, four of those future Gym Leaders are with us right now."
The students watched as Michael walked over to Ruby and Weiss.
Michael - "First we have two of our three Gym Leaders that'll go along the same lines as Whitney, Clair, and Roxanne, which is specializing in a single Type. Girls?"
Ruby - "I'm Ruby Rose, Pokémon Island's Steel-Type specialist."
Weiss - "And I'm Weiss Schnee, Pokémon Island's Ice-Type specialist."
Karen - "Who's the third pure Type specialist?"
Michael - "That would be Yang Xiao Long, Ruby's older cousin. And she'll be specializing in Dragon-Types."
He then walked over towards Pinkie and Rarity.
Michael - "And then we two of our remaining seven Gym Leaders that will specialize in multiple Types. Girls?"
Pinkie - "I'm Pinkie Pie! Pokémon Island's Normal-Type and Water-Type Specialist!"
Rarity - "And I'm Rarity. Pokémon Island's Rock-Type and Ground-Type Specialist."
Michael - "As for our other five multi-Type Specialists. We have Blake who mainly uses Dark-Types and Ghost-Types, Twilight who mainly uses Psychic-Types and Fairy-Types, Applejack who mainly uses Fire-Types and Fighting-Types, Rainbow who mainly uses Electric-Types and Flying-Types, and Fluttershy who mainly uses Grass-Types, Bug-Types, and Poison-Types."
Jerry - "What's the point of a Grass-Type user also being a Poison-Type user?"
Rarity - "It's mostly because she wants to become a Pokémon Nurse."
Karen - "She does?"
Michael - "Yes. Before she unfortunately went missing a month prior to my tenth birthday, my second eldest sister Azura is a professional Pokémon Nurse. Everything that she knows she learned from our mom, who's also a registered Pokémon Nurse. Due to how much Fluttershy, as well as my youngest sister Jeanne, admired Azura's passion and work ethic, they personally asked her to be their tutor. Which she did. And mom took over for the days that Azura was either busy or sick."
Sammy - "Will she return to tutoring them when she gets back?"
Michael - "Yes. She's gotta used to life back home first though."
Everyone chuckled at that.
Michael - "Now then. Let's get to that second Double Battle underway."
Everyone soon returned to the battlefield. Michael once again took his spot on the battlefield, while student duo Jerry and Karen were on the opposite side, and Roxanne was back in Referee's box.
Roxanne - "This is a Double Battle between Michael Masi of Pokémon Island and the Trainer School student duo of Jerry and Karen. The battle will continue until all Pokémon on one side are unable to battle. Are both side ready?"
Both sides activated their Battle Disks.
Michael/Jerry/Karen - "Ready!"

Jerry's fired off his Confusion at Michael's Ralts, who tanked the attack like it was nothing. Meanwhile, Ralty got hit a few times, but the Bullet Seeds did nothing to her either. They both then fired back with Draining Kiss, quickly knocking their opponents out.
Roxanne - "Jerry's Ralts and Karen's Shroomish are knocked out. Karen, please bring out your second Pokémon."
Karen - "Go Whismur! And I'll end my Grass Booster too!"
Grass Booster (Karen) ends

Michael's Hand: 4 + 1 = 5
Karen's Hand: 5 + 1 = 6

Karen - "Normal Booster! Use Uproar!"
Michael - "Double Psybeam!"
Karen's Hand: 6 – 1 = 5
Normal Booster (Karen): Turn 1/3
Uproar's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135 + 27 = 162
Psybeam's Current Power: 65 + 32.5 = 97.5 x 2 = 195 (x2)
Whismur fired off her Uproar, which did a good amount of damage. However, the Ralts twins fired back with a double Psybeam. Which also easily knocked out Whismur.
(Music Ends)
Roxanne - "Karen's Whismur has been knocked out. All three of Jerry and Karen's Pokémon are unable to battle. So Michael Masi wins the battle."
Karen - "Man..."
Jerry - "Guy's a champion. Kinda figured that he wouldn't hold back."
Everyone then gathered around Roxanne, where Michael shook hands with Jerry and Karen.
Michael - "Thanks for the fun battle you two."
Karen - "Thank you as well Michael. It was quite the learning experience for me and Jerry."
Michael - "Not at all. And congrats to the Ralts twins on their first ever win as well."
Ralty/Ralts - "Thanks Michael."
Suddenly, the Ralts twins began glowing. The glowing then stopped, and in the place of the Ralts twins were the Kirlia twins.
Michael - "Yay! You both evolved!"
Kir - "Wasn't expecting that at all."
Lia - "Same here brother."
Michael then reached into his bag and brought out a Dawn Stone, placing it in front of Kir.
Michael - "Now Kir. Just to make sure. Do you want to evolve? And don't forget. This is entirely your choice. But whatever you choose to do, your sisters and I will give you our full support."
Kir had already made his decision as he walked over and touched the Dawn Stone, which caused his body to glow again. This time, a Gallade was in the place of a male Kirlia.
Michael - "And now I have a Gallade. Counting on you big guy."
Gallade - "I won't let you down Michael."
Roxanne - "Any tips for my students before I end my class for the day Michael?"
Michael - "Just this. As you guys get older, not only will you all become better Pokémon Trainers, you'll also become better deck builders too."
Jerry - "What do you mean by that?"
Michael - "It's simple. Just as all Trainers and their Pokémon must find a way to overcome whatever situation is put in front of them. The Battle Deck you make could very well have the answer for you as well. But. That depends entirely on the battle deck you make. and as long as you put your entire heart and soul into the deck, and constantly believe in it, anything is possible."
The students agreed amongst themselves that Michael was right.
Roxanne - "Ok then class. If there's nothing else to say, then class is over for the day. By the way Michael. You don't mind if my class watches your Gym Challenge against me?"
Michael - "Not at all."
Soon the students cleaned up their classroom, then followed everyone else to the gym. Once inside the gym, Michael and Roxanne took their respective places on the Gym's battlefield, while everyone else went into the stands. The referee for this Gym Battle was another female by the name of Audrey.
Roxanne - "Hello. I am Roxanne, the Rustboro City Pokémon Gym Leader. I became a Gym Leader so that I might apply what I learned at the Pokémon Trainer's school in battle. Would you kindly demonstrate how you battle, and with which Pokémon?"
Audrey - "This is the Rustboro City Gym Battle between Gym Leader Roxanne and Challenger Michael Masi of Pokémon Island. The battle will be three vs. all. The battle will continue until all Pokémon on one side are unable to continue. Are both sides ready?"
Roxanne/Michael - "Ready!"
Both trainers activated their Battle Disks.

Both Pokémon lunged at each other. But while Swampert completely tanked the hit, Rhyperior was quickly knocked out.

Roxanne returned Rhyperior.
Roxanne - "You tried your best Rhyperior. Thank you and get a good rest. Go Golem!"
Audrey - "Will you change Pokémon challenger Michael?"
Michael crossed his arms, silently saying no.

Audrey - "Swampert Vs. Golem! Begin!"

Swampert attacked Golem, who only survived being knocked out due to his ability and fired off a Stealth Rock in case Michael decided to switch Pokémon.

Michael - "Take out Golem with Waterfall!"
Roxanne did nothing as Golem was gonna be knocked out in a single hit anyway. After a few seconds, Swampert finally knocked out Golem.
Audrey - "Golem is unable to battle! Swampert wins!"
Roxanne's Remaining Pokémon: 2 – 1 = 1
Roxanne returned Golem.
Roxanne - "You tried your best Golem. Thank you and get a good rest. Go Probopass!"
Audrey - "Will you change Pokémon challenger Michael?"
Michael again silently crossed his arms.

Roxanne, along with her students, watched in stunned silence as Probopass's attack did nothing to Swampert, while Swampert returned the favor with an attack that easily overpowered Probopass.

Roxanne - "So... I lost... It seems that I still have much more to learn... I understand."

Roxanne returned Probopass. She and Audrey then met Michael at midfield.
Roxanne - "Well Michael. I can go ahead and admit to being the first Gym Leader that threw everything but the kitchen sink at you."
Michael - "I'll admit that you gave me a bit of a challenge Roxanne. Sadly, Swampert was just too bulky for your attacks."
Roxanne - "Sadly true. Anyway. In accordance with the Pokémon League rules, I award you the Stone Badge."
Audrey held out a tray that had the Stone Badge on it. Roxanne then took the badge and handed it to Michael, who happily took it.
Michael - "Alright! Our first Gym Badge of Hoenn! We just won the Stone Badge!"
Swampert joined in the celebration.
Roxanne - "So what are you and the others gonna do now?"
Michael - "Well my sister has a meeting at Devon Corp tomorrow, so perhaps we'll stay around till then. I do want to accompany her to the meeting and make sure it goes well."
Roxanne - "Aww. You're such a caring older brother. And after that?"
Michael - "Mainly head south to Dewford Town so I can challenge the Gym there. After that, it depends entirely on what's in front of us. And you can join us too if you want."
Roxanne - "I'll think about it for now."
Michael - "That's fine. Just remember that you have until tomorrow afternoon at the latest."
Roxanne - "Right."
Michael and Roxanne then led everyone out of the Gym. As they were about to head back towards the Trainer's school, a commotion was happening in front of them.
Team Aqua Grunt - "Get out! Out of the way!"
A familiar Team Aqua Grunt ran by in front of the group fleeing to the north end of the city. He was then followed by an exhausted-looking Jimmy.
Jimmy - "Wait! Pleeeaaase! Don't take my Goods!"
Jimmy continued his pointless pursuit, running off after the grunt.
Ruby - "Michael. Was that...?"
Michael - "Yeah Jimmy. Along with that Team Aqua Grunt I protected him from back in Petalburg Woods."
Rarity - "So what do we do then?"
Michael quickly had an idea.
Michael - "Ok here's the plan. Roxanne. You, Clair, and Whitney are gonna escort the students back to the Trainer's school, then sent them off home from there. And see if you can get the principal to do it. Meanwhile, the rest of us are gonna catch up with Jimmy and find out what's going on. Akira. You're with my group."
Akira - "Right!"
While the Gym Leader led the children back to the Trainer's school, Michael and the rest of the party headed towards the northern end of Rustboro City. They then went west towards Route 116, quickly catching up to Jimmy.
Michael - "Jimmy!"
Jimmy turned to see Michael's group reaching him.
Jimmy - "Oh, Michael. It's you."
Michael - "Are you ok?"
Jimmy - "I'm fine. But sadly, Team Aqua robbed me of my Devon Goods. You've got to give it back for me. Otherwise, I'll be in serious trouble."
Michael - "Not a problem Jimmy. Just leave it to us."
Jimmy - "Thank you..."
Roxanne - "Michael!"
Michael looked to see Roxanne, Clair, and Whitney running over to him and the others.
Michael - "That was quicker that I though."
Clair - "The principal caught up to us halfway back to the school. We quickly explained to him the current situation, and he took the kids off our hands and told us to return to you to help."
Michael - "I see. Anyway. Let's get moving."
While working their way along Route 116, Michael caught a Nincada. Then as they were reaching the end of the Route.
Pinkie - "Bae, Whitney. Look who it is."
Everyone turned to see the old man Pinkie pointed out. He was standing near the tunnel entrance with a worried look on his face.
Whitney - "It's Mr. Briney. But I don't see Peeko anyway?"
Bae - "Something tells me that Team Aqua thug may have kidnapped her."
Michael - "Let's find out then."
The party then approached Mr. Briney, who was wallowing in his own misery.
Mr. Briney - "Ohhh, what am I to do?"
Pinkie - "Mr. Briney?"
Mr. Briney looked up to see a familiar face.
Mr. Briney - "Oh hello Pinkie, my dear. What brings you out here?"
Pinkie - "I'm just traveling the Hoenn region with my friends. I'm guessing you're out here for your daily walk with Peeko?"
Mr. Briney - "Ay, I am. The two of were on our walk when suddenly we came across this odd thug..."
Michael - "The thug then took Peeko and ran off, didn't he?"
Mr. Briney - "Yes. He did. I was able to track the scoundrel to as far as the western entrance of the Rusturf Tunnel here, but sadly I'm not as young as I used to be..."
Pinkie - "We'll get Peeko back for you Mr. Briney."
Mr. Briney - "You will?"
Michael - "Of course. Besides, the thug in question stole something from another friend of ours earlier. So we're getting that back from the guy too."
Mr. Briney - "Thank you very much. And do be careful in there."
Michael and the girls entered the tunnel. Before going deeper into the tunnel, Michael, and surprisingly Pinkie, caught a Whismur.
Ruby - "Why'd you catch a Whismur Pinkie?"
Pinkie - "Well I've been thinking about it, and I've decided to change Tauros with Exploud for my final team."
Michael - "You sure about that choice?"
Pinkie - "Yes."
Michael quickly made a note about Pinkie's final team change. They then continued into the tunnel. After a bit of walking, the party finally found the Team Aqua Grunt.
Team Aqua Grunt - "What, are you coming? Come and get some, then!"
Michael then causally moved closer to the grunt.
Team Aqua Grunt - "Grah, keelhaul it all! That hostage Pokémon turned out to be worthless! And to think I made a getaway... In this tunnel to nowhere! Hey! You! So you want to battle me?"

Despite Mightyena being seemingly stronger, Buneary once again knocked him out in a single hit.
Team Aqua Grunt - "Urrrggh! My career in crime comes to a dead end!"

Team Aqua Grunt - "This is plain not right... The boss told me this would be a slick-and-easy job to pull. All I had to do was steal some package from Devon. Tch! You want it back that badly, take it!"
The grunt thrust the Devon Goods into Michael's hands. Then just as he started to run off, Michael suddenly grabbed his arm.
Team Aqua Grunt - "What else do you-"
Michael thrust a paper in the grunt's face.
Michael - "For your boss Archie. In case he ever wants to talk business."
The grunt took the paper and read it a few times, then looked back at Michael.
Team Aqua Grunt - "Is this for real?"
Michael - "Team Rocket has already joined."
The grunt's eyes went wide at hearing that. He then quickly ran out of the mountain tunnel. After a few moments, Mr. Briney entered the tunnel and approached the party.
Mr. Briney - "Peeko! I am glad to see you're safe! Peeko owes her life to you and your Pokémon Michael."
Michael - "Not at all Mr. Briney. But Buneary deserves most of the credit. I just gave her the orders."
Just as Michael placed his hand on Buneary's head, she began glowing. After a few moments, the glowing stopped to reveal a new evolved Lopunny.
Michael - "Alright! Buneary's now a Lopunny!"
Lopunny - "I'll admit I wasn't expecting to evolve right now."
Mr. Briney - "Well we best be taking our leave. And if you kids need anything, I'll be in my cottage on Route 104 near Petalburg Woods. Come, Peeko, we should make out way home."
With that, Mr. Briney led Peeko out of Rusturf Tunnel.
Michael - "Guess we should do the same then."
The party then left Rusturf Tunnel as well to deliver the Devon Goods back to Jimmy.
