Touching her left arm, which was covered in bandages, Moda grimaced. Since Enel had electrocuted her, severe burns had been visible on her. However, her arm seemed to be in worse condition than the rest of her body.
"It hurts." She affirmed.
Still, trying to keep her enthusiasm down, she took a sip from the bowl of stew she had been given and immediately savored its taste.
" This is delicious. "
Then, she saw the people in front of her, celebrating Enel's defeat and the end of Enel's tyranny. Remaining silent for a few moments, she finally said.
"Do you know you look like a stalker?"
Even though she hadn't looked at him, a man appeared from behind a tree trunk, looking ashamed.
"I…I didn't mean to scare you." Reiner stated.
"Reiner-sama…if you want to stay with me, just sit next to me! Nothing will please me more."
"Stop thinking of me as a god." The man retorted.
Then, hesitating for a few moments, he finally sat down next to the young woman.
"Do you want something to eat?" she asked him.
Shaking his head slightly, Reiner replied, before looking down at his arm.
"Is it... Is it painful?"
"A little." Moda confessed. "Nevertheless, knowing that I'm still alive, I have nothing to complain about, do I?"
"I'm sorry." Reiner apologized.
" Huh ? "
"I...I couldn't protect you."
Thinking then of the moment Enel touched Moda's forehead before electrocuting him, Reiner clenched his fist before hitting the ground.
"DAMN IT! Again...Again, I've been useless."
Thinking back to his life in his old world, the blond hit the ground again.
"All I can do is kill people."
Then, suddenly, he ends up calming down, while keeping his gaze lowered.
"I really must be pitiful, don't I?"
"Reiner-sama...you were amazing! You won against a being able to wield fire and you faced without hesitation against another man that everyone considered a god! You... There's no shame for you to have been defeated by Enel."
Yet, suddenly putting his hand to his face, Reiner felt his whole body tremble with anger and shame.
"I fought with all my might! I wanted to protect Smoker and his men! I wanted to protect this island! I wanted to protect you! I did everything I could to be a true hero! whenever Zancrow was destroying part of my body, it was painful, but I kept fighting him! I fought him so I could fight Enel too! I used everything I had inside."
Suddenly a tear ran down her face.
"Yet it wasn't enough, I couldn't do anything! I'm incapable of saving people or changing things."
Wanting to retort, Moda heard him laugh sadly, before declaring.
"Still, that's no wonder, is it? How could a murderer like me hope to be able to change and become a hero, in order to forget all the atrocities that he committed in the past? It's nonsense! No one can escape their past! I learned to become a murderer and I could never become anything else."
Suddenly, Moda's forehead collided with his. Grinning in pain, Reiner fell back a little as he caught sight of Moda's angry face.
"SHUT UP! You, a murderer? Don't make me laugh! What are you crying for? Losing or failing to protect me?"
Showing her injured arm, she slammed it against the trunk of a tree, which made her wince in pain. Yet, gritting her teeth, she assured.
"This wound is nothing! Nothing compared to the wounds that the many pirates inflicted on me by looting my native village again and again! This miserable and painful life that was mine... I would not have believed that it would end! And yet, it happened, the day you arrived on my island."
Thinking of the many pirate ships that had subsequently been destroyed by a titan, she assured.
"Reiner-sama...you are the hero of my island."
" SHUT UP !" Shouted Reiner.
Having trouble thinking about anything other than his past again, the blond declared.
"I don't want to hear you say things I don't want to hear! Do you think you're in a better position than me to know who I am and what I've done? I'm a piece of shit and nothing else! I killed my friends! I abandoned Marcel, Annie and Berthold! I lost to Enel."
Feeling a tremendous amount of rage, he roared.
"If only... If only I was Eren! If I was Eren, I wouldn't have lost! He's weaker than me but... I know he would have fought until he could defeat Enel, do you understand? I can tell you that he would have gotten back up, even if it would have cost him his life! But his determination... I never would! Because I'm a loser."
He began to sob again.
"I have no one! I have nothing! And I am capable of nothing! Why give someone like me a second chance? All I want is to die."
Seeming even angrier with him, Moda slapped her hands on his cheeks and brought her face closer to his. Convinced of getting another whim, Reiner let it go. Still, his eyes widened as he felt Moda's lips touch his.
" Huh ? "
Kissing him for a few seconds, Moda then pulled her face away from his, before looking at him, while she sobbed too.
"I don't want you to die! Because I love you."
Startled, Reiner stood still, while Moda affirmed.
"It's easy to be a murderer! It's hard to be a hero! And it's even harder to be a hero after killing people! Because of this, many people prefer to become murderers or pretending to be normal people when they have done a lot of harm to others in the past! But you, you are trying to become a good person! To me, you are someone as incredible as Smoker . "
Still silent, Reiner finally put his hand to his lips, before asking.
"Why did you do that?"
Wiping her cheeks with her hands, Moda tried to smile at her, before affirming.
"Because you are someone very special to me."
Grabbing Reiner's hand, Moda placed it on her own chest and let Reiner hear the sounds of her heart.
"I love you, Reiner-sama! I know you were a horrible person, in your old world but...that old Reiner, he's nothing like the Reiner I met! You're brave, sensitive , protective and heroic! whenever I have seen you, I have never felt the slightest disgust towards you."
Speaking with sincerity, she affirmed.
"Reiner-sama...you don't have Eren's willpower! Nor Smoker's mentality! And you don't have Enel's power! And that's okay! Because you're different from them!" You are Reiner...someone who has a lot of faults...but also a lot of qualities! And it's Reiner that I love...not someone you want to be like."
Still half frozen, Reiner wanted to say something, but he could only sob again. Seeing this, Moda wrapped her arms around him, before positioning his face against her chest. And so, she let him cry.
Drinking another glass of sake, Zoro began to feel the effect of the alcohol on his mind.
"I think I'm going to fall asleep soon." He affirmed.
" Onii-san. "
Approaching him, Menma took a hesitant step forward.
" What do you want ? "
"I…I want to tell you something." The child said, sounding scared.
" Huh ? "
Thinking back to her fight against Skarmory, the child couldn't help but think that if Kalgara hadn't criticized her cowardice, she would have ended up running away.
"I... When I was all alone, I fought against a pokemon and... I was afraid to fight it."
Stopping drinking, Zoro stared at the child, who looked away in shame.
"And...?" Zoro asked. "Did you run away again?"
"No…I…I tried to fight him and win! I really tried but…I lost."
This time, she lowered her gaze, as she had just confessed her new humiliation to Zoro. She knew that the man was already mad at her, because of his behavior, during the attack on the Merry, but she didn't want to lie to him and hide the truth from him. "
"You lost again?" Zoro questioned her, frowning.
"Sorry." Menma apologized.
However, she was surprised to hear Zoro sigh, while declaring.
"I really don't know if I should berate you or congratulate you."
"Congratulate me?" Menma wondered. " But I ... "
" You lost. " Zoro affirmed. "Nevertheless, you lost by fighting and not by fleeing! For me, that is a big difference."
"So...you're not mad?" Menma asked, relieved.
Zoro's fist hit the top of her head.
"OUCH!" complained the child.
" A defeat remains a defeat. " Zoro retorted.
Then, getting up, he pretended to go away. However, as Menma rubbed the top of her head, she heard Zoro say.
"Next time, do what it takes to win."
Surprised, Menma turned to Zoro. He said 'next time' and yet, the last time he scolded her for her cowardice, Zoro seemed to want to ask Luffy to kick her out of the crew.
"He...He changed his mind?"
Leaving the party area, Zoro heaved a weary sigh.
"Raising a brat is hard! Still, she might not be hopeless."
"Lucario ! "
Stopping, Zoro saw the pokemon in front of him. Wearing many bandages, due to the wounds he had received during these two days of fighting, the humanoid wolf stared at Zoro.
"What do you want from me? Do you still want to fight?"
Fighting Zoro again was indeed something Lucario wanted to do. However, injured as he was, he knew perfectly well that he could barely fight Zoro for a few seconds, before he felt his wounds open.
Instead, he growled, before punching his chest with his fist. Seeing him do this, Zoro suddenly smiled, before declaring.
"Yeah! Don't worry! I'm going to train to get stronger."
Then, showing one of his swords, he assured.
"And the next time we meet, I promise you a fight in which no one will bother us! And this time, we can find out who is the best of us."
Nodding, Lucario nodded. Then, finally, he turned to leave.
"And also...if you get stronger than you are now, maybe I could make you my mate."
Stopping, Lucario turned to see Zoro giving him a mocking yet sincere smile. Growling in disapproval, the pokemon finally ran. Slaloming between the trees, he continued to growl, while he couldn't help repeating Zoro's last sentence in his head.
But he refused. For him, he was going to get stronger. Much stronger than Zoro. So strong that it will be Zoro who will beg him to be under his orders. Finally, entering a clearing, Lucario spotted a rock and rushed at it.
Lucario use FORCE PALM.
Hearing a sound of impact, Zoro guessed that Lucario had already begun intensive training, with the aim of defeating him, the next time they met. And he knew how much he was going to have to train too not to lose.
Then taking a step, the man stopped when he felt his foot hitting an object. Startled, he looked down and saw a small sphere at his feet. Bending down, Zoro grabbed it and noticed that it looked like the spheres Hunter J was using.
Pressing the button on the sphere, he enlarged it and even managed to open it. However, the pokeball he was holding was completely empty. Looking at the object for a few seconds, Zoro ends up shrinking it, before storing it at his belt.
Then he left.
Sitting next to Pit, who was still in front of Gan Fall's grave, Luffy questioned him.
"Do you feel better?"
"How could it get any better?" Pit questioned.
Feeling angry, Pit affirmed.
"It's all my fault! I knew I couldn't trust Enel! But, for me, I had no choice! To allow Skypiea to survive, I had always obeyed Enel ", because he was the only person who had the right to do whatever he wanted here! I thought... I thought that by obeying him..."
Striking the ground, he bowed to the grave, while apologizing.
"Gan Fall-san…I'm sorry! So sorry! I want to die."
Seeing him continue to cry, while Conis was still behind him, Luffy finally affirms.
"You are pitiful."
Hearing this, Pit immediately turned to Luffy, before roaring.
" What did you say , "
"You cry...you cry...you cry...that's all you do! But don't you think you have better things to do than talk to a grave?"
Immediately, the angel's fist hit Luffy's face.
"BUCKING!" Pit roared. "Do you have any respect for the dead?"
Taking a step back, Luffy managed to stay upright and then punched Pit in the face.
"You're the one who's stupid and doesn't understand anything."
Bleeding from the nose, Pit roared in pain and anger, before punching Luffy again.
"What don't I understand? That I'm responsible for Gan Fall's death because I wasn't there to protect him? I know that perfectly well."
Luffy's punch hitting him a second time managed to knock her back. Passing a hand on his sore cheek, the angel groaned before pretending to get up.
"I will kill you, Mugiwara."
"STOP!" Conis shouted, falling on Pit, to keep him from getting up. " Stop fighting. "
"The knight... he would have been proud of you." Luffy assured.
"Huh?" Pit wondered.
"You fought Raynare but... it was thanks to your intervention that the people of Skypiea were saved! If you had decided to follow Gan Fall, Johnny and Yosaku would never have been able to protect the population and Raynare would never be came to help them! No one can say that your presence at the side of the knight would have allowed you to save him but... your presence in Skypiea allowed you to save thousands of people! And knowing this, the knight must be proud of you. "
Suddenly pushing Conis away, Pit clenched his fist, attempting to hit Luffy again.
"Stop talking about him like you know him better than me! No one wants to die or be proud of someone who abandoned them."
Dodging his fist, Luffy hit his face with his forehead to stop him. Then, staring him straight in the eye, he said.
"What I know is that the knight would be ashamed to see you act like this! Now that they no longer have a homeland, the inhabitants of the sky need a leader who can think! Only you can help them."
" What ? "
Suddenly, he spat out drool as Luffy's fist hit his stomach. Taking two steps back, he finally fell to his knees, gasping.
"You are in no way responsible for the death of the old knight! Because just like him, you only acted to protect Skypiea! But if you really want to honor his memory, then you don't have to do everything he did to protect his people."
"Shut up...you...you didn't know him...you...I..."
" I knew him. " Luffy retorted.
Looking at Pit with sincerity, he affirmed.
"Gan Fall...he was my friend.
Hearing her, Pit clenched his fists again. Then new tears streamed down her cheeks.
"He was an incredible person! He had become my role model! He was not afraid...neither of death nor of Enel! How...? How could I replace a man like him ? "
"No idea! Maybe it's like becoming the Pirate King."
" What ? "
"It's not a question of possibility or resemblance! What is needed is the will and the conviction."
Crouching in front of Gan Fall's tomb, Luffy touched the wooden cross that was planted in the ground, before affirming.
"This guy...no matter what he did, he did it for the good of others! He was honest with himself and lived his life hard! He was really cool."
Finally, he got up, while declaring.
"To be able to achieve his ideals, you must always make choices that you will not regret! That's all I have to tell you."
Then, Luffy left, leaving Pit behind. Still on his knees, Pit put his hands on his head as he shook him. He didn't know what to say or think... let alone what to do. He needed someone. Someone like Gan Fall or...
"Paluterna...please...what should I do?"
Unfortunately there was no response.
"I beg you! I can't hear your voice! Tell me... WHAT SHOULD I DO?"
Grand Line
lying on the floor of a submarine, a pirate with a cap on his head, seemed to sleep. Having docked not far from an island two days ago, the man and his crew had decided to reach inside the submarine until their Log-Pose indicated the next destination. Nevertheless, the boredom was more and more felt.
"Captain..." complained a polar bear. "Can't go visit the island? I need to walk."
Simply removing the cap from his face, Law stretched a little, affirming.
"We have a collection of books talking about many Grand Line islands! Unfortunately, this island is not mentioned anywhere in these books! We don't know anything about it! So it would be wise not to set foot on it. "
" But ... "
"Give up on Bepo." A man, lying in a hammock, assured her.
"Yeah! Those are the captain's orders." another man assured.
About to grumble, Bepo was suddenly surprised to see the area darken in seconds. As noon had just struck, a huge cloud had just covered the sky and plunged the island into darkness.
"What...? The night?"
" What is happening ? "
Raising his gaze to the sky, Law frowned.
"A celestial island?"
Then, to everyone's surprise, light appeared. Resembling a column of lightning, the light left the sky and descended before striking the center of the island. The violence of the impact was so imposing that Law and his crew felt gusts of wind coming towards them, while waves were shaking their submarines.
"What's going on?" Bepo frightened, jumping into a man's arms.
"Something fell from the sky."
Frowning again, Law stood still at first. Then, finally, he made a sphere appear in his hand, before making his saber appear.
"I don't know what's going on! But we'd better take a closer look."
And about ten minutes later, the pirates finally saw the place of impact, which was characterized by the presence of a huge crater in the ground.
"What was that?" Shachi asked. "Lightning?"
"I've never seen lightning make such a big crater." Penguin retorted.
Looking at the center of the crater, Law finally sees a figure lying on the ground. putting his feet on the slopes of the crater, he slid down.
"CAPTAIN!" Bepo shouted.
Ignoring her pleas, Law stopped in the center of the crater and scanned the figure there. But to his surprise, it looked like a ghost.
"A ghost?" The man wondered.
Seeing the figure lying on the ground and appearing to be dead, he tapped it with the end of his sword, but the figure had no reaction.
"I don't know what it is…but anyway, it seems to be dead." Law remarked.
"CAPTAIN!" Shouted Bepo again. "Come back! This can be dangerous."
Eventually, finding no point in staying in this crater, Law ends up turning around.
"You're right! Let's get back to the ship."
However, he ducked to dodge a purple sphere, which exploded as it hit one of the crater walls.
"Huh?" The man wondered, turning around.
Seeming to have managed to regain confidence, the ghostly figure was now floating. One of its eyes was closed. However, that didn't stop Law from seeing anger in its good eye.
"Mis ... Misdre ... "
Looking at the ghost, Law finally pulls out his saber.
"You... you are not a being like the others."
