Chapter Four
Putting the odd encounter behind her Kagome could only sigh as she settled on the park bench. The cool air swirled around her, bringing with it the scent of fall. She loved fall, it was her favorite season, and she was glad to be able to just sit and relax a bit before having to get to work and deal with drunk patrons hitting on her.
She hated night shifts at the restaurant, even more so when it was the weekend, the men would overindulge in the alcohol and get cheeky and handy's with her. The sad thing was she had to deal with it if she wanted tips. It sucked but it was just the way things worked. It was just a means to an end, at least until she got her foot in the hero's door.
Letting out a deep breath she forced her thoughts away from the rest of her shitty night and instead wanted to focus on the here and now. The peace and tranquility washed over her as she relaxed even more on the bench, a small smile curled on her lips as the wind blew again bringing with it the scent of fall...as well as screams?
She blinked, her eyes snapping open as she heard even more noise and commotion from the entrance of the park, her head whipped towards the screaming, seeing people running away from the area followed by explosions. She was on her feet before she even had time to think about it. She bit her lip as a few people rushed past her, and one of them paused to toss a glance at her.
"Get out of here, there are some villains causing a scene!" Warning tossed out he continued on his way in the opposite direction of the park entrance. If she was smart, she would take his advice but honestly, she had grown up her life being told by her father that she wasn't. So with a determined look on her face, she took off toward the source of the explosion and screaming.
The scene that met her was typical for the slums of the area they were currently in. Since they were in the slums, where most quirkless lived, villains liked to show up and take advantage of them. Often robbing stores and people as they pleased. What made it an even more toxic area was the fact that most heroes didn't even bother to venture this close to the slums.
It was sad and pathetic in her opinion and if she could just get her license then she would make it a point to patrol and help out in the slums. Heroes weren't supposed to be biased but like always they never practiced what they preached.
So as she watched the thugs laugh as people screamed and ran around in fear she felt her blood boil at the lack of hero intervention. Of course, they would take their sweet time showing up and in the meantime, innocent people would suffer...
The dark glare on her face attracted the attention of one of the thugs, he chuckled as he pointed at her. "Hey baby, come on over here...you're too pretty to be glaring like that." He chuckled as she sneered at him.
"No thanks, why don't you and your thugs get out of here? We don't want any trouble. This is a park, a place for people to relax and have fun." Her voice was low and even, her blue eyes a pool of liquid fire. If there was one thing she had inherited from her father, besides his fire quirk, it was his ability to cut into people with a single glare.
The man scoffed as he took a few steps towards her, a mixture of a glare and a leer. She didn't flinch, it made him even more agitated. "Tch, whatever. Guys let's show this lady here how we like to have fun." He gave a dark bark of laughter as the tall skinny male to his left gave a cackle, his hand quirk flaring to life. She jumped back avoiding the yellow whip that was aimed at her.
It looked to be made of energy of some kind, it gave him the advantage of being able to use long range attacks without worry of getting hit. The leader stood back a smirk on his face while a shorter balder man shifted his feet and she felt the ground under her shift. Jumping away she stared wide eyed as vines sprouted from the ground where she had been only moments before.
That was smart of them, using one to distract while the other tried to ensnare her in a trap. It was a well-oiled tactic and she wondered how many people they used this on... Narrowing her eyes at them she grits her teeth as she kept her distance, her own quirk curling at her fingertips, it churned and burned from deep inside of her. She hated her fire quirk, because it was from her father but she wasn't stupid it was a powerful quirk.
It was the offensive part of her while the quirk she inherited from her mother was her defense. She had inherited the best and the worst from her parents. So it was with a sigh that she flared a barrier around her to life, blocking the whip from landing a hit, turning on the heel of her feet she thrust her left hand out, flames erupting from her fingertips. They lashed out, burning the plants that tried to curl around her ankles into a crisp.
With her right hand, she sent a burst of fire toward the plant user making him fall on his ass. Once he was down, she rushed forward, her small statue made her quick and light on her feet. She lashed out with her right foot landing a solid kick to his temple. He was down and out before he knew what hit him.
One down and two to go.
Before they could even react, she turned again and lashed out at the leader, a quick jab to the jaw knocked him back. Yet he was quick to right himself and lash out at her, a rush of sandblasting at her from his palm. It made her close her eyes and cover her face as she threw up a barrier so she would have time to gather her bearings.
It was a good thing she had the foresight to do so as she felt the various plant life attack her barrier, spreading around it to try and find a crack. In no time there was a wall of plant life surrounding her barrier, her barrier was engulfed. Spitting some sand out of her mouth she huffed darkly, her ire stroked.
She could feel the heat from her flames swirl around her, the flames flowing from her body in a cyclone of orange and blue. She let it surround her as she readied herself for her next move. She had very little time before her flames ate up the air in the barrier...plan in place she let the barrier fall, the plant life surging around her, ready to crush her yet she flared her fire around her.
In a blast of fire, they were turned to ash, the light from the flames making people look away. She zipped forward, her body tense and coiled up like a cobra ready to strike. She was a flurry of hits and kicks with the occasional small blast of fire. The whip user was down and out, turning to face the leader; she could only smirk as he stared at her, his jaw slacked with surprise.
She could only grin as he flared his sand around him, he must be really daft to not realize that he was at a disadvantage...darting forward she thrust her hand out her flames tinged blue from the heat of her fire. Her skin protested the high temperature, she could feel it begin to burn yet she raised the temperature even higher, enjoying the way the villain let out a scared scream as his sand was turned into the glass around him.
Letting her flames die down she could only stare in wonder at the glass structure that he was encased in. There was no way he would be getting out of there anytime soon, not without help. Fight over she sighed as she looked down at her hands, they were red and had a few blisters here and there.
She would have to call off work tonight, there was no way she'd be able to carry food out to people with her hands like this. Great, just fucking great. Mood, sour, she leaned next to a nearby tree and crossed her arms under her bust to wait for the heroes or the cops to show up.
