Harriette and Mayla and Emelia and the twins were playing a game that Harriette wasn't quite sure of the rules on, but it was a lot of fun. She was fairly certain that Mayla just made the game up for them to play, or they were copying the plot of a cartoon Mayla had watched. Still Harriette was having a great time. Harriette was getting better at finding her way through the maze of the play structures, even with Mayla taking some wild turns and dived down a slide when she was acting like she was going to make a turn around another corner in the opposite direction. Harriette was also pretty sure she'd learned how to tell Fred and George apart now. She was pretty proud of that too.
"Harriette! Mayla! look at this," Emelia called her from a small alcove that she'd dived into after Mayla. Mayla was almost already out of the alcove, Harriette was just behind the twins, who'd helped her over one of the tougher obstacles that she'd encountered.
"What is it?" Mayla asked crawling back through the smaller tube she'd taken.
"It's the second best view in the daycare!" Emelia said.
"Is it?" Mayla asked settling next to Emelia on her right, Harreitte and (One twin's name here) took the left seat and (The other twin's name here) scooched over to sit next to Mayla. "Oh wow, you can see the whole daycare from here. there's Daniella playing house with Elison and that's Katie, Matty and Katrina! I did not know the daycare had coloring pages. Do you guys wanna do coloring pages later? That sounds fun. Let's go down the slide, and do coloring pages." Mayla was saying. Harriette had learned that Mayla was very much a talker. Which suited Harriette just fine.
"Oh," Harriette said. "You can the whole daycare almost." Harriette noted.
"Uh-huh," Emelia said.
"Wow! You can even see Sun!" Mayla said. "What do you think snack will be? Did you enjoy your pancakes? They're yummy aren't they. Granny Nova brought something with her, but she wouldn't let me see what it was." Mayla said as she started toward the slide she'd mentioned.
"I suppose we're coloring now," Emelia said. "Though I do like drawing so that works for me." They went down the slide and joined the other girls at the table.
"Hi, we're going to color too. Did you bring your own pictures, or are they somewhere in the daycare? Where are they or do we gotta ask Sun? Oh! that's a whole shot of the glamrocks! Oh, is this one with all the old characters they haven't brought in yet?" Mayla asked. Katrina pointed to a stack of coloring pages in between the three girls, Mayla continued as she shuffled through them. Emelia commenting on each that Mayla passed over. After the other kids had chosen theirs Harriette looked through, but didn't find one of Mr. Sun or Mr. Moon. She shrugged grabbing a blank paper. She didn't want to get into trouble, so making a page of Mr. Sun or Mr. Moon was the best option. Since she didn't know what the other's looked like, or what their colors were. Once she'd chosen she finally chose to speak or sign.
'Hello, Katie, Katrina, Matty," Harriette said.
'Hello, Harriette,' Katie signed back.
"Your pretty good at remember your signs," Katrina said, then she signed to Katie. The signs unfamiliar to Harriette who watched and tried to decipher the silent words they shared.
"I'm not that good," Harriette said, ducking into her paper.
"It's true you know," Matty said, signing. "Rin," She signed Katrina's sign for that part. "Took a whole month to learn our names. I'm still learning and I've been using sign for two years." Matty said. "I'm loosing my hearing see, so my parents and I started learning sign so that we wouldn't loose touch. They seem to have more acceptance for that then my gender." Matty said, signing the whole time, slowing over signs she found harder.
"Oh," Harriette said.
"Learning a new language is hard, and your doing your best, and that's all that matters," Matty said. "The rest will come with practice and time."
"Thanks," Harriette signed along with spoke.
"You'll do good," when Matty was finished signing she patted Harriette's shoulder. "let's color." Emelia and Mayla and Fred and George chattered as they colored. Harriette and Katrina let the sounds wash over them silently. Matty and Katie also seemed continent to let them chatter for the most part. Katie asked them to lower their volume a few times through Katrina or Matty, but for the most part even she seemed fine with them talking.
After a while, Mayla finished her picture and she ran off chasing after one of the other kids. One of the none regulars as far as Harriette could tell. Emelia finished her picture next but had the wiggles and needed to move before her next picture so she started running around the area near the table far enough away as not to get into trouble, but close enough that she could easily rejoin.
