Hey :P It's Wednesday so it's time for my weekly upload :3 I actually wrote this one such a long time ago, in like February when I first watched the Little Mermaid but completely forgot about it. But here it is and hope you enjoy :P

Disclaimer: I only own Ben and Katie and of course the story :3

"Come on Katie, you can do it princess."

I smiled from my position on the deck chair by the poolside. It was a sunny afternoon of late August and my best friend Ash was teaching his daughter, Katie, how to swim. I couldn't help but secretly watch the scene in front of me as it was so very cute, watching him with dripping wet hair hold his arms out to the little girl bobbing in the deep end with armbands were on. I had known Ash since he was a child himself and it was truly heart-warming to see him grow along the journey of being a father.

Watching the scene in the late afternoon sun, I squinted, wanting to catch up on some snooze time but at the same time not wanting to miss the adorable scene between the father and daughter.

"Okay daddy…" the orange haired little girl narrowed her eyes in determination, biting her lip slightly as she focused her sight on the goal of Ash's outstretched arms. My eyes grew wide at this. I was seeing multiple traits of both her parents in just a few seconds.

Before I could think any more about it, Katie began swimming towards her father, her head bobbing unsurely above the surface. She was only four years old, so of course she wasn't very fast in the water but I could already see she had the potential to be as nimble as her mother in the future.

I caught Ash's eye who gave me a very proud grin, his eyes shining and I smiled back to him as he turned his attention back to his little princess.

"That's it, baby girl, that's the way!" his chocolate orbs lit up even more as his daughter swam into his arms and he lifted her high into the air. "You're just like a little mermaid!"

At this, Katie's own eyes lit up and she beamed down at Ash from high up in his strong arms.

"You think so, daddy? You really think I could be a mermaid?"

I sighed to myself, contemplating. I couldn't decide if Ash interacting with his daughter or his son, Benjamin, was cuter. I shrugged, watching the scene again. I couldn't for the life of me remember who either of my parents were but I was not filled with grief as I got to watch two of my best friends endeavour in the world of parenting. Yes, that was enough for me.

"You could certainly be a mermaid, Katie, and a very beautiful one at that."

My heart clenched as I saw the little girl the spitting image of her mother reach forward and press a kiss to her father's cheek.

"Come on, daddy, I wanna do it again!"

Ash smirked, going back to the other end of the pool while his daughter bobbed away to the opposite side.

"You wanna do it again?" he smiled, holding his arms out to her. "Come on then big girl!"

Both mine and my best friend's eyes grew confused as the little girl frowned, crossing her arms across her chest.

"I'm not swimming to you, you're swimming to me!"

Ash and I exchanged glances before Katie gave her father a sweet smile, unfolding her arms and holding them out to him.

"You swim to me. Your swimming wasn't very good and I think you need to practice."

I laughed to myself as Ash sweat dropped but proceeded to swim towards his daughter's outstretched arms, before I curled up and went to sleep. Katie was certainly a mix of both her parents but I couldn't help but think that Misty's genes had outnumbered Ash's.

The End.
