"Uncle James…?"
The lavender haired male sighed from his position on the sofa and glanced over at the doorway where his goddaughter was standing. Katie's orange locks were tangled from being in bed and she was clasping her Cubchoo teddy bear underneath her chin. Upon hearing her favourite relative's sighs, she made her eyes go cute and wide.
"Uncle James, I can't sleep." The young girl pouted as she took a seat next to the man who was texting on his phone. I smirked as he tried his best to ignore her and keep concentrating on the gadget in his hands but I knew as well as any he couldn't resist his little friend. After a few minutes of not reacting to the little girl's whining, he finally put his phone down at gave her an unamused face.
"This is the third time you've woken up, what could possibly be wrong now?"
Ash and Misty rarely got any time to go out together due to their busy work and family lives. Tonight was a different story and they were delighted to be able to go on a date and the fact they knew their children were safe with James made it even more enjoyable to them. James himself adored babysitting his best friend's children but tonight was proving a struggle as Katie wanted to spend every minute of the evening with her Uncle, even though it was now way past her bed time.
"I can't sleep, Uncle James, I want to be with you…" she stuck her bottom lip out as she climbed onto his lap, trying to win over the lavender haired man. Normally he was won over easily but I had previously heard Misty give him instructions to send Katie back to bed when she woke up.
"You've seen me all evening and now it's time to go to sleep." He looked at her with his green orbs and attempted to carry the young girl back to bed but she wasn't having any of it. She crossed her arms and demanded to be put down again.
"I'm not sleepy and I'm not bored. I'm staying up with you."
James sat back down and tangled his hands in his hair exhaustedly. He looked over at me and gave me a look that told me exactly what he was thinking. He couldn't believe Katie was only four years old and already had the smart mouth of her mother.
When her Uncle didn't speak for a few minutes, Katie pouted once again and sat back next to him, poking his jawline with her finger. After being ignored for a few more minutes, her eyebrows narrowed at him.
"What are you doing sitting topless on my mommy and daddy's sofa with your hair all in a mess? If I should be going to bed, you should be asleep too."
I snickered as once again James was challenged by his goddaughter's smart comments. He gave her a firm look before running a hand through his hair and scowling at her. Both Katie and I knew never to comment on James' pride and joy; his hair.
"Oh I wonder why? You guys soaked me at bath time and I have no spare clothes. My hair is a mess because I keep running my hands through it when you're being a cheeky monkey."
He turned and poked Katie's cheek back, causing her to giggle. After a few moments of cuddling with James, the child's aquamarine orbs lit up.
"Hey, why don't I fix your hair for you?"
James could only give Katie a look of I don't think so before she reached for the brush and began brushing back his lavender locks.
"Excuse me, what would your parents think if they knew you were up past your bed time because you were practicing being a hairdresser on me?"
The orange haired little girl countered James' firm look with a confident smirk of her own.
"Excuse me, what would your parents knew if their son had completely messy hair?"
I couldn't help but laugh out loud at Katie's retort and sit up to watch the scene beginning to unfold. She was showing a whole wide range of different sides of herself tonight and I had to admit, I loved her being just as smart as her Uncle.
When all the male could do was grunt an "I guess you're right" in response, Katie climbed behind him and grabbed a section of his hair. I watched her stick out her tongue in concentration as she lifted two sections of his hair up high. Boy, she looked like her mother when she was busy doing her own thing. James was too tired from his goddaughter's smart mouth to even think about arguing her actions by asking what on earth she was doing. He smirked slightly as Katie held him steady by his neck. Yet another thing she learnt from her mother. The lavender haired male's face soon changed as she secured his hair with a hairband and left it in a shape that resembled a pineapple.
The green orbed male couldn't even shriek in horror as he heard the front door click open and another orange haired female burst in the room.
"Hey James are the twins-"
Misty couldn't even finish her sentence as her own aquamarine orbs took in the scene in front of her. Katie's arm was still tight around her Uncle's strong neck and he was still shirtless with his hair in a proud pineapple.
"Y'know what? I don't even want to know." Was all Misty uttered as she gave James a look of disgust before completely exiting the room.
James quickly took his hair out of its new style before pushing it back out of his eyes and turning to look at Katie.
"Well thanks, little one, looks like I've lost my best friend to a dodgy hairstyle done by a four year old."
Katie just smirked and sprawled across her Uncle's lap, completely satisfied by her night's work.
"Ah well, you liked me better anyway."
The End.
There you go! Hope you enjoyed and thanks a lot for reading :3 So yeah, I hope that chapter gave you more of an idea of James' relationship with the "twerps" and their family in my stories/headcanons and got to know his relationship with Katie. They're pretty smart and sassy together :'3 I will most likely be back next Wednesday as usual :3 Thanks again!
