Hey :P It's Valentine's Day so, like I said, I'm uploading a special oneshot today. It's a little different than what I normally do as I focused more on description but couldn't help adding a little conversation in there too. I hope you enjoy anyway :3
Ages:
Ash: 20
Misty: 20
Ben: 1
Katie: 1
Disclaimer: I own the story and Ash's kids :3
The rain pattered gently on the window and a candle on the window sill flickered in time with the raindrops, creating their own rhythm. I was curled up in the arm chair and the television buzzed quietly in the corner of the room.
My eyes went over to Ash and Misty who were cuddled up on the sofa, their hands clasped and legs entwined. I couldn't help but smile as my best friend placed a kiss on his girlfriend's nose while she rested her head on his chest, most likely listening to his heartbeat.
Today was Valentine's Day and I know what you're thinking; it isn't a typical Valentine's Day setting and you are correct. There are no banners of hearts draping across the room and no heart shaped sequins spilled out on the floor. The only Valentine's related objects were a bunch of roses for Misty, two cards on the mantel piece and Ash and Misty's twin babies dressed in matching red and white onesies for the occasion.
You may think it is abnormal that we are not making a big deal out of the holiday but the truth is we do nothing normally. Normal is boring. So today all of us are just together, on this rainy day and basking in the company of one and other.
The only sound gracing the room was the patter of rain, gurgling from the twins and occasional speech from either Ash or Misty.
Ash smiled contentedly at his girlfriend and pressed a loving kiss to her cheek, his eyes filled with adoration of her. Misty returned his look of love with a beam.
"Hey Ash, do you ever think about the future?"
Her voice was quiet to match the serenity of the scene.
"Sure I think about the future, but what do you mean by that?" Ash replied as her hand moved to his chest and began stroking it absent mindedly.
I watched Ash let out a relaxed sigh and cuddle into her further. Unusually for me, my head was not filled with thoughts but my heart was filled with love as I glanced at the young couple.
"I mean do you think about where we'll live in the future and how many kids we'll have and what we do when the kids grow up and leave home? What job do you see me pursuing when it's time for me to return back to work?"
I listened while they spoke quietly and in turn with one and other, their hands still clasped and their eyes lighting up with thoughts for the future and the endless possibilities. I couldn't help but beam to myself as everyone had waited ages for these two stubborn people to confess to one and other and get together and now they were discussing the future as if they had always done just that.
"Would you like to go travelling when all our kids have left home? I know that's what Jessie and James are planning to do."
Everyone paused to glance at Katie who gasped in horror from her playpen with Ben, although she couldn't possibly understand what they were discussing.
Misty turned her attention back to Ash when he began speaking softly to her, a smile taking over his young and handsome face.
"I do think about the future, of course I do, but I'm so content right now. I've got the girlfriend who is so amazing I don't deserve her and even though I'm much too young to be a father in some people's eyes, I've got the family I've always wanted. I'm so lucky so the possibilities for the future are never ending and the only future I want is with you. If you want to travel the world, we'll do that. If you want a whole bunch of kids, sure, I'm more than happy with that. I just want to be with you and continue making you as happy as you make me. That's my future."
I beamed at the pair as they engaged in an innocent yet passionate kiss before cuddling back down on the sofa to watch the rainfall. Soon enough, the twins escaped from their playpen and climbed onto their parents lap to join in the family cuddle. I stayed back as I didn't want to intrude but I couldn't help but bound happily over when both Ash and Misty invited me to join them.
The five of us stayed cuddled up together on the sofa well into the evening of Valentine's Day, barely feeling the need to speak and just content to be in one and other's company. Though none of us spoke these words, the way we glanced around the room at one another with such love made it obvious to me that we were all thinking the same thing.
This is exactly what each of us has always dreamed of having.
The End.
There you go! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I'm a little nervous about this one but I thought it was time to try something new. I hope it worked :P I might be back next week or I might take a break to catch up on writing rather than uploading. I guess I'll see you soon :P
