Hello :P I'm back from my little break to upload this story. In my headcanon it was Misty's birthday on the 19th May and it will be Ash's on the 22nd so I decided to write this story :3 I hope you enjoy!

Ages:

Ash: 28

Misty: 28

James: 35

Ben: 8

Katie: 8

James Ketchum: 2

Jessika Ketchum: 1

Disclaimer: I own only the story :P

"Daddy!" the Ketchum twins called as they both barged into where their father was feeding the youngest members of their family a mid-morning snack. I smirked from perched on Benjamin's shoulder due to the fact that I knew exactly what they wanted to ask.

"Daddy!" Katie repeated, her voice breathless from running all over the place looking for him. Her brow was furrowed in irritation that he was not replying.

Ash sensed his daughter's growing agitation and looked up from popping raisins into Jessika's open mouth, a smile taking over his handsome face.

"Hello princess." He greeted her before grinning and nodding at Ben. "Hey buddy, what are you guys up to?"

The two twins looked at each other with wide and childish eyes. I smirked to myself. Despite having quite a lot to say, they always wanted one and other to tell their tales of mischief.

Katie glared at her twin brother in a way that let him know that he absolutely had to be the one to speak. He poked his tongue out at her in return before smiling innocently at his father.

"We were wondering if you could help us bake a cake." He blinked his chocolate orbs at his father and clasped his hands under his chest. "It's mommy's birthday in a few days and we want to make her a cake or two."

The orange haired little girl copied her sibling's actions but made her eyes even wider and more sparkly. She also gave her father a sweet smile.

"It's your birthday soon after so maybe it can be a joint cake."

I glanced at Ash and we shared a secret laugh. Katie had certainly inherited her mother's talent of negotiating and getting her own way.

Ash finished feeding his youngest daughter and smiled at his twins as he wiped his hands on a baby wipe. His head was on one side, clearly contemplating their request.

"You guys know I'm not that great of a chef…" he sighed, rubbing his neck in a way that showed he hated admitting defeat. "How about doing it with Brock sometime? I could give him a ring?"

When both of them shook their head and went on their tiptoes to beg further, Ash sighed once more and scratched his head.

"Well what about James? He's probably the second best option."

Katie's aquamarine orbs lit up at the idea of cooking with her favourite relative but it was Ben's turn to shoot her a glare.

"No daddy, don't you understand? We want to bake with you!"

Ash glanced between me and Ben unsurely. When Katie have him her sweet smile once again, a small blush took over my best friend's face.

"Well, if you want me then of course I would love to make a cake with you."

I noticed Ash's beam as he proceeded to look for a recipe book and the twins helped fetch the ingredients out of the cupboard. My best friend simply loved fatherhood and the fact his children wanted to bake with him out of everyone sure made his heart sing with joy.

A couple of minutes later, all of the ingredients had been lined up in the order of which they were to be needed by Katie and Ash had placed the recipe for all to see.

The raven haired male turned to his daughter, ruffling her hair and giving her a small smile.

"Why don't you read what we have to do first, baby girl?"

Upon hearing this, Katie nibbled her lip and blushed lightly. Jessika gurgled from her highchair in an unhappy manner, perhaps sensing her older sister's anxiety.

"O-Okay…" she stammered and stared hard at the recipe, trying to find the courage to read it. "We need… We need to-to-"

Ben interrupted his sibling, obviously knowing by his twin's intuition that she was struggling and wouldn't mind him helping her out.

"I think we should measure everything that we need out first, that might be the easiest way." He gave a shrug and began doing just that before his father could object.

Katie sighed with relief and proceeded to measure out the ingredients with her brother while Ash gave little James a quick gentle poke of the nose. The chestnut haired boy had been doodling from his toddler chair but stopped to watch. I could tell that he was worried it would all end in disaster.

After a few minutes of silence and the twins concentrating, the orange haired young girl frowned and turned to her father.

"Daddy, you forgot to get the flour out of the cupboard!"

Ash blinked and scanned the room to look for what his daughter said was missing. After a few seconds he laughed sheepishly and stood up.

"You're right, princess, I'll go get it now."

We all smiled at the raven haired man but our eyes soon widened with confusion when he reached for the back door keys and began making his way outside. I wondered if he'd heard a noise and got side-tracked.

The twins shrugged and went back to making their mother's birthday cake but I kept a watchful eye on Ash. I just had to know what he was up to.

My musings were answered soon enough as Ash bounded back in through the door and held out a handful of flowers to his eldest daughter, a proud grin on his face.

"There you go, Katie, I got the flowers for you!"

Ben didn't seem to have a problem with his father's actions and jumped up to sit on the counter, by the stove.

Katie, on the other hand, met my gaze before turning to give her father a deathly stare. You could almost feel the heat from her disappointment in her father.

Ash didn't have time to question why his daughter was looking at him with such disgust as a burning smell filled all of our noses. Soon enough, I noticed that Ben had accidentally switched on the stove during his jump onto the counter. What was roasting on the stove was none other than little James' dummy. He cried loudly when he saw his pacifier was beginning to stick to the hot surface.

My best friend began flapping like a bird over this situation and didn't even see his wife return from her shopping trip with adult James. Both Misty and James looked at one another as a strong burning plastic smell filled their noses.

"Ash! What on earth are you doing?" the red headed woman sprung to action and turned off the hob before rescuing the dummy. She also fetched little James a new dummy and popped it beside him on the table. I smirked to myself. Man, that girl must be super woman.

"Oh Mist…" he breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that peace at been restored but groaned when he saw she had seen the recipe which obviously stated it was for a birthday cake. "The twins wanted to make you a cake so of course I said yes… Things got a bit out of control though."

James smirked and leaned up against the door, obviously hoping Misty was going to lose her cool at Ash losing control. Instead, Misty clasped her hands under her chin and her eyes sparkled with happiness.

"Oh, you guys are just the sweetest!" she looked at Ash as she quickly hugged the twins, her orbs filled with love for her family. "You're sweet, Ash. Completely useless, but sweet."

Upon hearing this, Ash beamed and went back to making the no longer surprise birthday cake for his wife.

I climbed on James' shoulder as Misty joined him by the doorway, her hands still clasped under her chest and her eyes looking in Ash's direction with such love. She sure adored my dorky best friend.

James raised an eyebrow at his best friend before resting his arm on her head and pretending to sniff.

"What? What are you doing?" she frowned and shoved his arm off her head before going back to watching her lovely family.

James leaned forward to whisper in her ear, his eyes narrowed with suspicion and cheekiness.

"Can you smell burning again? Or maybe it's just you burning with lust for that imbecile over there."

I couldn't help but laugh out loud as Misty tugged on his stand and flicked his nose, an embarrassed blush taking over her face.

Although she hated to admit it, James was right. But Misty did more than just lust after her husband; he was the perfect man for her. He was sweet and charming in an uncool way and loved her and their children with all of his heart. He wasn't afraid to be himself whether that means embarrassing his wife or making her heart thump with love for him. So, soon-to-be birthday, you two. You're perfect for one and other.

The End.

There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I hope it wasn't too dense for Ash, it was just meant to be a bit of a laugh :P
