Hello :P Today is Wednesday but it is also the 23rd March and AAML-TAML's birthday so this is a present for her. She and I have a headcanon that Delia teaches Misty to cook occasionally after Misty returns back to the Cerulean Gym and it becomes more frequent and special to them when Ash and Misty start dating. So I wrote this PokeShipping and Misty and Delia bonding chapter for my TT. I hope you all enjoy but especially you, boo :3
Ages:
Ash: 17
Misty: 17
Delia: 35
Disclaimer: I own only the story :P
It was a lovely early spring day in Kanto. The sunshine was creeping in through the window of the Ketchum residence and the bird Pokémon living nearby were chirping happily to welcome the season of new beginnings. I sat happily on the countertop, warming my back and soaking up the atmosphere that was equally as toasty. It was one of those days again; one of those special moments when Ash was busy training his other pokemon and I was joining Misty and Delia for their baking and bonding time.
I sighed contentedly as my nose was filled with the scent of the soap that the red head was washing her hands with. After she had rinsed and dried her digits, she turned and smiled at her future mother in law.
"So, Mrs Ketchum, what are we making today?"
These words caused the chestnut haired female to smile fondly at the younger female and touched her gently on the shoulder.
"Just call me "Delia", dear." She told her son's girlfriend before moving her hands to tighten her ponytail and smiling even brighter at Misty. "You choose what you would like to make. I'm happy to do whatever."
Misty returned the glowing smile before running a hand through her own hair, thinking aloud to herself and us.
"Well I guess it depends what Ash-" she stopped suddenly and her hand went to her mouth but she tried to cover it. It was too late. The red headed female's cheeks grew decorated with a blush as she tried to move on from her blunder.
I smiled fondly as Misty began to stutter slightly and Delia let out delicate giggles before trying not to make too much of a big deal out of it and turned to get her recipe book.
"It depends what Ash likes best, doesn't it?"
My heart filled with love for Misty when she begun to play with her hair and just nodded at the older woman, looking quite flustered and ashamed. She and Ash had been dating for quite some time now so it was no secret that they shared deep affections for one and other. Misty had grown up with ridicule whenever she expressed her feelings and sometimes I think she forgot that we all cared and enjoyed hearing about these things. I was so proud of her. I had seen her come so far and knew as time went by; she would make me even prouder.
Misty didn't answer for a few moments but after a while she realised she was in good company and let out her own sheepish laugh to accompany Delia's and moved her bangs out of her eyes.
"So I'm guessing you noticed that I picked recipe's based on Ash's likes and dislikes, huh?" she asked Delia in a shy way and her fingers stayed playing with her hair.
Delia just nodded and smiled from passing the ketchup bottle over to me.
"Yes… In fact I noticed quite a while before you and my Ash had even got together."
When the motherly female saw Misty was all the more embarrassed by her knowing, she smiled all the more and turned to wrap a happy arm around her.
"I think it's absolutely wonderful, Misty…" she began, her fingers reaching out to sort the red head's bangs herself in a caring way. "There is no shame in a female wanting to have skills in a kitchen and there certainly isn't any in wanting to make her man happy. I always knew you'd end up the perfect wife for my son."
Upon hearing this, Misty wrapped her own arm casually around Delia's waist but her cheeks flushed slightly crimson. I smirked and licked from the ketchup bottle that was the same colour as Misty's face.
She and Ash had been together less than a year but they had been hearing relaxed discussions of them getting married from all their friends and Delia. It wasn't any surprise to me. They had acted like a married couple since they were ten.
I must have gotten so carried away with drinking from the ketchup bottle and thinking of the wonderfully flowing relationship of two of my best friends because by the time I next paid attention to Misty and Delia, they had already chosen a recipe. And they were already long into making it!
I pulled a face at myself before shutting the ketchup lid shut and focusing my attention on the two lovely ladies.
Delia smiled warmly at me from checking the home made buns in the oven before turning to where Misty was carefully slicing cheese. The auburn haired female returned flushed when she stood back up from peering at the bread but just ran a hand through her hair, checking on Misty's work.
She nodded in approval when Misty glanced at her for it before reaching for kitchen towel to wipe her brow. Afterwards she let out a contented sigh and placed her hands on her hips.
"Ash is going to absolutely love these burgers that you decided to make for him, Misty." She beamed, giving off another nod of approval before placing a delicate hand over her heart. "I might be biased because you're the first girl Ash bought home to me but I always thought you'd make the best wife for my son."
Misty had pale cheeks so naturally I could easily see the happy and rosy blush forming on her face once again. She just smiled modestly at the older female, going to place the lettuce in a bowl, ready for later when they were to put it in her boyfriend's burger.
"Well…" she swallowed and paused for a moment, brushing her bangs from her eyes so she could see her future mother in law's smile. "I'm very lucky to be with Ash and to have you accept me and have all the craziness that comes along with dating your son."
Delia smiled cheekily upon hearing this and glanced at me with the same playful look to which I returned.
"Oh I'm sure he is quite the handful and keeps you on your toes."
I giggled to myself and sneakily opened up another ketchup bottle while watching Misty go off on a dreamy planet before coming back to answer Delia.
"Huh?" she murmured before laughing sheepishly and realising she had just visited the planet of her love for the raven haired male. "Every day with him is an adventure and I'm lucky to be on it with him."
Upon hearing this, Delia let off yet another cheery beam and her hand moved to clutch her heart further more. She absolutely adored her only son and had loved Misty since day one. It's no surprise to say that her dreams came true when she found out that they had finally gotten together when they did.
I grew very happy myself when I saw Misty glance between Delia and I before deciding it was time to open up a little bit and let us into the wonderful world of thoughts and feelings that she lived in.
"I was very lonely growing up and ever since I met Ash, I have met so many amazing people. People who I never thought I would meet or get along with or have things in common with. He's shown and taught me so much. He really changed my life."
There were slight tears in Delia's eyes when she heard this about her son and she let out a quiet gasp of love before wrapping her arms tightly around Misty. The red headed female let out a sheepish giggle before returning the affection.
It was at that moment that I realised that when we discovered Ash was the chosen one way back, Delia had described her son as her world. I couldn't help but realise and hope that since Misty and I and our entire usual group and our antics had come along, her world got a whole lot bigger.
A few hours later, the burgers had been made and the whole Ketchum residence smelled like food awaiting the return of my best friend. I think it's obvious to say there was no ketchup left but Delia nor Misty cared; they were too filled with affection and happiness after another day of fun spent together.
At exactly seven o clock in the evening, the sound of the door banging shut was heard and it was soon followed by shoes being kicked off and Ash stretching happily.
After greetings, hugs and kisses were had; Ash followed his two favourite ladies into the kitchen and inhaled excitedly.
"Oh man, I seriously can't wait for these burgers." He beamed, licking his lips with lust as his mother plated one up for him and arranged an extra side salad on the side of his plate.
Ash grinned at his girlfriend and didn't even notice the pretty way his mother had arranged it and just picked the burger up in both hands, licking his lips once again.
"If I die with love after eating this, I want you to both speak at my funeral…" he muttered playfully, bringing the burger closer to his mouth. "Believe me, Mist, my mom makes the best burgers."
Before either female or I could object and inform him that they had mostly been prepared by his girlfriend, Ash took a huge mouthful and shut his eyes, ready for the taste of deliciousness.
Delia and Misty had gone back to fond and secret talk of Ash and didn't see his eyes snap wide open but I did. I watched as his nose began to wrinkle and his skin became tinged with a slight blueish colour. Before I could even think about asking what the matter was, I suddenly knew.
Ash and I had an amazingly special connection and sometimes I believe that we could feel the same things. At this moment in time, I wished that we didn't have that power. My eyes began to water as my own mouth was filled with this bitter taste.
I gasped quietly and quickly gulped more of my secret stash of ketchup, hoping that taste would also fill my best friend's mouth. Ash swallowed his mouthful and waggled his tongue disapprovingly, letting out a cough as he forced the rest of the burger down.
Before Misty could even ask how it tasted and if he liked it or not, Ash tackled her with a hug and bought her lovingly into his arms. Misty giggled happily and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
"That was the best burger I have ever had in my life. And you're the best girlfriend ever."
I didn't even notice Delia's knowing expression and just focused on the amazing couple that was two of my best friend's. It was at that moment that I realised they had shown me yet another wonderful definition of love.
Love is wanting to learn new things to share with your partner. Love is sharing with other people how that special someone makes you feel. Love is being away from them all day and being super excited to come home to their face and warm embrace. Love is pretending to adore their cooking even when you don't. Love is wanting to make them their favourite food, even if you secretly know you can't cook that well.
Love is… Well… Love is Ash and Misty.
The End.
