"So that's what really happened between Mist and I under the mistletoe on New Years that year!" Ash exclaimed, his face slightly red from pride and also from flushing due to the alcoholic beverage that was in his hand.
He let out a giggle while everybody else in the group had mixed reactions. Some laughed and shook their heads. Others eyes popped out of their sockets. Some people groaned and looked quiet appalled indeed. I laughed as Gary let out a hearty laugh from his armchair with his wife, Jayme on his lap, pretending to wipe a tear at his best friend's story.
"Wow, Ash, just wow. I knew you were a one but I really had no idea you were so-"
"Disgusting." James finished and shook his head at his orange haired best friend before finishing his own alcoholic beverage and sitting further up in his sit. His nose wrinkled as his arm wrapped further around the waist of his own wife. "I can't believe you did that to my best friend. You're so lucky your mother wasn't in the room to hear that."
Ash shrugged and continued beaming as he put his glass down and wrapped both his arms around Misty, pressing a cheeky and clumsy kiss to her cheek. I smiled to myself as Misty shook her head fondly at him and looked at him with love despite him telling everyone their adult actions of a few Christmases ago.
It was Christmas once again and in the Morgan Household this year. In fact, it was Christmas Eve. All of the members of our group and their offspring and parents had gathered in the biggest house to spend the holiday season. We had been together for days already and couldn't be further from being sick of one and other. We enjoyed each other's company so much. We spoke, we ate, we laughed and we hugged. We even shared the occasional saucy story while the next generation were occupied by a festive Pokémon TV programme. Life was always good. But it really couldn't get any better than the festive season with the people I loved so dearly and so close to my heart.
Jessie smirked fondly at her husband's still appalled looking face and poked his cheekbone before standing up off the arm of his chair, looking over at the clock.
"Well would you look at that. It's four minutes to midnight already and only a short few moments away from being Christmas Day."
It was not surprising to me when this statement was followed by loud cheers. Such loud cheers in fact it caused the older children to glance over from either being glued to the television or glued to their own conversations they were having.
Jessie laughed at the reaction and picked up her and her husband's wine glasses. She was about to say something else when Cameron piped up, leaping out of his chair. He always had a childlike energy and the snow on the ground seemed to whizz him up even more so.
"We should have a competition! Let's see if we can all get into bed before the clock strikes midnight!"
Once again, the room was filled with whoops and cheers at the idea of a competition. I shook my head fondly. I didn't know if it was the alcohol making everything so exciting or just Christmas in general.
Like Jessie before him, Cameron was about to open his mouth and say a third sentence when Delia came in from tidying the plates away in the kitchen, beginning to collect all the glasses up this time. Her eyes shone at the group and her hand went to her hip at the sound of a little fun.
"That sounds like an interesting idea, Cameron, but if everyone's in bed, how do we know who has won?"
James was about to open his eyes to add his input when he saw his youngest daughter stand up with her boyfriend's arm around her waist. He narrowed his eyes and shut his mouth, more focused on seeing where she'd head with Leo, despite her being twenty and him being even older.
Justin noticed and smirked at his father, playing with his long locks as Cameron beamed and had the opportunity to speak for the third time.
"Everyone will win! If we hurry, everyone can be a winner!"
And with that, everyone got up like a rocket and quickly put their rubbish in the bin or their glasses in the kitchen before rushing around the large house to get to their rooms. There was quite a commotion. There was a lot of laughter. There was a tonne of clumsiness. I smirked fondly as seeing as their other younger children had already been put to bed; Ash and Misty just grabbed hold of Ben and tugged him to the room he was sharing with Eddie.
After watching my immediate family, my eyes soon went to everybody else's. Jessie and James had a bunch of teenagers to round up and get into the right rooms and make sure no funny business was happening on Christmas Eve with their significant others. Gary and Jayme just had Melissa seeing as Eddie had already headed off with Ben and Dylan had been asleep for hours. Jayde and Cameron had their precious girls and their toddler boy who, despite their height, they picked up and carried off together.
Just as soon as the noise picked up, it had gone silent again. I breathed out as my ears continued ringing, despite the fact there was no longer a noise to be heard in the big house. I sighed happily to myself, not caring that my eyes were blurring due to the lateness or maybe due to the fact I'd had a sip or two of Misty's drink.
It was Christmas Eve. A time for peace and love and togetherness. Well, there would be no peace in this house but there was certainly a lot of love. I let out another contented sigh and was about to head off to my room when, speaking of love, I saw someone I loved very much.
Katie was sitting by herself by the window, just staring out at the snowy scene that was in front of her. I thought she couldn't have possibly been so in her own world that she didn't hear everyone's competition to head to bed. I furrowed by brow gently and watched her. She didn't seem sad or too deep in her own world. It occurred to me she must have been happy to sit there. It also occurred to me that when I was watching the others head off to bed, Ash and Misty had told their daughter not to stay up too late. They knew where she was. So it was fine with me.
Although she wasn't looking at me, I gave her a smile and a nod of the head. I was about to turn to leave the room when, once again, I got distracted by yet another person I loved. It was Jayden and he came padding down the hall and in his pyjamas. He peeped around the door, not spotting me in my own arm chair. He showed off a gentle smile to Katie already and walked over to her, gently reaching his hand out to touch her shoulder.
She jumped at the contact but not violently. She soon smiled and played with her long and orange locks as her crush spoke to her in a soft voice.
"Hey Katie, what are you doing down here all by yourself?" he asked curiously before leaning against the window by his shoulder, smirking slightly and clarifying what had happened earlier. "I was going to try and win their competition with you but Jaxon dragged me off before I could find you."
Katie just smiled at the teenaged boy, nodding her head to show she was listening but she didn't speak, knowing and feeling as though she didn't need to. Jayden just nodded and smiled back, his own eyes going to the snowy scene outside of the window. He was such a nice boy. He grew up with a lot of privileges but he had a good head on his shoulders. I knew Katie liked him a lot. She had every reason to.
After a few moments of peaceful silence, Jayden ran a hand through his adorable curls and let out a gentle yawn. He soon looked shyly apologetic although I don't believe Katie noticed. Once again he smiled, showing off a lot of the things he inherited from his father.
"What are you thinking about?" he looked at her with even more curiosity than before, his green orbs sparkling with a look of intrigue and not a hint of intrusion.
Katie shrugged and went back to playing with her hair, focusing on the ends this time. I wondered if she was going to speak to her crush or wait for him to ask more. After about half a second, she let out a quiet sigh. She shrugged once again.
"I'm not really sure. Everything I guess."
Jayden just nodded and smiled, his arms folding over his chest as he continued to lean against the window. I know he badly wanted to look at the pretty girl as he spoke but he didn't. Instead, he continued looking where she was. At the beauty of the world outside.
"I think it's normal to have a lot on your mind this time of year." He nodded and let out a quiet approving him before looking at her again, smiling. "Busy year, huh?"
Katie stopped looking outside for a moment and nodded her head, her eyes looking softly at the boy in front of her. The boy who meant everything to her but I knew she hadn't found the words to tell him just yet. She smiled shyly at him.
"Yeah, really busy year." She reflected, her eyes showing off a different emotion as she did so but not an unpleasant one, still playing with her hair. "I can't complain though. I think I've done everything I've wanted to do. Well, it might be for other people to judge but I, uh, I-I've done well as far as my stutter is concerned."
Jayden's smile widened upon hearing this and his eyes shone with pride, not bothering to hide the fact that he really was so very proud of her. He wasn't deterred by how she said the word "stutter" a lot quieter than her other words. He nodded at her softly, reaching out to pat her upper back, very close to her neck but didn't say anything. He didn't need to. He spoke with his eyes and they said she had every reason to be pleased with herself.
Katie smiled shyly at his supportiveness before blushing and shivering slightly when she felt where his hand was. She swallowed and looked at her lap before daring to look back at him. She gave him a casual smile.
"What about you, Jayden? Have you done everything you wanted to do this year?"
I saw Jayden's cheeks go slightly pink at his crush saying his name out loud and I smiled to myself. Young love and infatuation. It really was the simple things that mattered. The curly haired male shook off his blush and smiled, his other hand playing with his hair.
"I'm not really sure. I can't say I had a massive to do list. I think I made the most out of every day and that's what counts."
The orange haired female nodded and smiled upon hearing this, shivering again and I wondered if it was cold due to being by the window or the feeling of Jayden's hand still on her. She was about to go back to looking at the view when almost as soon as he said those previous words, he let out a noise and furrowed his brow slightly, correcting himself.
"Oh, well there was something I wanted to do. I wanted to do it by the end of the year." He took a deep breath after saying this rather than before like a person normally would.
Jayden and Katie had been best friends for years so she could most definitely tease him. Just like his father and her mother. She smirked, wrinkling her nose playfully at Jayden.
"T-The end of the year? Well… Well, times running out, boy." She smirked and swung her legs playfully on the chair she was on, still looking at him. "What's this thing you wanted to do? You better hurry and do it."
This time, Jayden took another inhale before doing what he was nervous about doing, rather than after like before. He tilted his head on one side and considered for a moment. He then shrugged and smiled somewhat shyly at Katie.
"Okay then." He nodded again, moving his hand from the back of her neck to hold out to her. "Come with me a second."
When Katie didn't take hold of his hand and just blinked at him, he let out a quiet noise before taking hold of both her hands. She looked at him with wide eyes as he led her across the room, blushing.
He took another deep breath for luck. I needed my own deep breath when I saw where he was taking her. He pulled her gently with him, still holding onto her hands and stopping with her under the mistletoe. Katie's eyes grew wider and her pale cheeks grew rosier. Her wide eyes went from Jayden and they moved with her head as her neck craned to see the plant right above her head. She had to have an idea about how Jayden felt about her by now. And she absolutely had to know what the mistletoe meant.
I held my breath as Katie's eyes went back down from the plant and met Jayden's their hands still linked together as they stood very close.
"Uh…" was all the orange haired flustered teenage girl uttered, glancing between the green sprig and the green eyes of her crush quite a few times.
Despite his shyness, Jayden laughed quietly and he took another step both literally and figuratively. He moved closer to her and held her cheek softly in his hand.
"Oh come on, Katie, you have to know what this means…" he smiled at her, his eyes full of love for his best female friend as she continued to blush under his touch.
When Katie blushed even heavier and just shrugged, he stroked her cheek more.
"Oh come on, Katie…" he repeated and smiled at her, his other hand going to the back of her neck and stroking her hair. "You can't be that dense. You must realise that all the roses I've given you recently really aren't for your Pokémon. They're for you, Katie. They're for you."
Katie swallowed and her blush eased off slightly but I knew her heart was pounding in her chest. She was a smart girl but she was also half Ash. She really couldn't understand what was going on right at that moment.
"They're… For me…?" she asked doubtfully, raising a slight eyebrow at Jayden and moving away to get a better look at him, not to be away from him.
Jayden wasn't put off by her shyness and continued looking at her with all the love in the world. His eyes were showing the romantic love for her he had wished he could show her for a very long time.
"Yes, for you, Katie. I don't know how to say it any other way other than I want you to be my girl and I want to kiss you."
Katie flushed again upon hearing this, her eyes shaking slightly as she listened to what he was saying. There was no doubt she had felt the exact same way back for years but she hadn't dreamt he'd feel the same way back, despite everyone telling her.
Jayden nodded his head somewhat shyly after his bold words before breathing out quietly, continuing.
"I've wanted to tell you for the longest time but you already had so much on your mind. I've wanted to tell you so badly. So I told you with flowers instead. I thought maybe you might notice but you didn't. But that's okay."
The way Jayden was smiling at her showed it was completely okay while Katie's skin colour was conflicted. Her cheeks were pink at her crush admitting his feelings for her yet they were slightly pale. Her eyes grew wide. Her brain was flashing with images and memories that made her realise that for the past year or two, Jayden had been showing her with slight words and gestured that he liked her more than just best friends but she just hadn't realised. Katie breathed out slightly and she shut her eyes, looking mildly embarrassed.
"I… I'm sorry, Jayden."
I saw the dual hair coloured male bit his lip and hoped for the life of him the sorry was at her not noticing rather than sorry that she didn't like him back. He decided to be positive and lifted her chin up with his fingers, causing her eyes to flutter open again.
"Please never be sorry, Katie. You have made me so proud these past few years you can't even imagine. Yes, I wanted more but I really am so proud of you. You were focusing on yourself and learning to accept yourself before thinking too heavily about boys. I'm so proud of you, whether I get to be proud of you as your best friend or your boyfriend. In fact, I think seeing you realising you deserved your own time and love made me love you even more."
Katie jerked slightly upon hearing this, her eyes widening as she clutched onto his hand. She didn't need to confess her shock with words. Jayden hesitated but he nodded and smiled at her.
"Yes. Yes, I do love you Katie. Whether we're too young to experience love or whether you feel the same way back or not. I've always loved you. I'm happy to love you. As your best friend or your boyfriend. I do love you."
This was a lot for the young teenager to take in and her eyes filled with slight tears. She blinked them away desperately and just smiled at him, still clutching onto his hands. Like their parents, they could easily communicate with looks and gestures. He knew she was happy. And he now knew she felt the same way back.
As he pulled her into a hug and she nuzzled into his neck, he pressed a light kiss to her head before playing with his hair.
"We're still young so there's no rush to be anything you don't want to be. I know I said I wanted more but I was happy you were taking care of yourself first and that's still true. If you still want to take care of yourself, that's fine. I'll wait. But maybe do you have a tiny space in your life where I can be your boyfriend at last?"
It was Jayden's turn to choke up this time and I smiled slightly. He was an emotional one like his father. Katie pulled away from the hug upon hearing this noise and she reached out to stroke his cheek shyly, nodding her head.
"I think I might have a huge Jayden spaced hole in my life and I need you to fill it and be my boyfriend."
Her words were sheepish and cheesy but I knew they made Jayden's heart soar. He let out a few happy giggles and just hugged her close. He breathed out and shut his eyes, knowing he was finally getting what he wanted. He was so happy with just Katie loving him back and holding her in his arms. Once again, it was Katie who pulled away from the hug. And once again, she reached out to stroke his cheek gently.
It had been her father's density that caused her not to see Jayden's true feelings for her but it was her mother's forward attitude that caused her to take the next step herself.
She moved her hands back to his and glanced up at the mistletoe before back at him. She smirked cheekily at Jayden and tilted her head at him as she spoke.
"So are we doing this or what?"
Jayden blushed heavily upon hearing this before tilting his head back and wrinkling his nose slightly. Soon enough he laughed and nodded his head. And soon enough, Jayden and Katie were engaging in their first kiss under the mistletoe. It was tender and it was sweet. There were a few bumps and collisions but they shared their first kiss together so it was perfect.
As I watched them kiss a few more times but mainly hug onto one other and hold onto each other's hands, I reflected. It was beyond ironic to me that years ago, Ash had tried to avoid getting under the mistletoe with his future wife, Misty yet somehow ended up under it anyway while Jayden had intended to get Katie under it but it took quite the while. I suppose after all, they are two separate couples and four separate people so it makes sense the circumstances were completely flipped.
Aside from Jayden and Katie being the next generation of Ash and Misty, Jessie and James, the similarities didn't stop there. They all shared love. They all shared admiration. They all shared friendship before love. And they all shared many many kisses under the mistletoe with their significant others. And I was so lucky to share my life and many many Christmases with them all.
My Christmas miracles.
The End.
There you go! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I look forward to writing more about Jayden and Katie sometime in the future because they're one of the characters/pairings I've had since the beginning. And there's still a few bits of their relationships I want to write about :P So yeah that chapter begins all the chapters this month being Christmas themed. I tried to make them a lot different to last year but I still have one or two more to write. Uploading this one should hopefully get me into the Christmas spirit again to continue them :P Thanks again and I will be back on Wednesday so see you then!
AmyBieberKetchum signing out :3
