Hello :P Today is Wednesday and I am uploading for AAML-TAML. It is a thank you present to her for coming to England to meet me for the third time, just like we have done for each other the other two years. I really hope this story does justice to the day we spent yesterday, Shay. It was so fun and I am happy to have written some pure James and Lynne for you :P I hope you really enjoy!
Disclaimer: This story is inspired by the 'So Close' dancing scene in Enchanted and the song included is the song 'So Close'. I don't own either.
I bit my lip and although I didn't move aside from that, it was as though my hand was placed over my beating chest. I felt so much. I felt pride. I felt love. I felt fondness. I felt completion. I wasn't even joining in on any of the other couples but that didn't matter. I was there. I was in the moment. I was a part of it. All our hearts were beating for the same reason. Each other. The occasion. The love we felt for each individual so deeply.
It was Jordan and Lynne's wedding and that was spectacular but it was so much more than that. Those two were angels and their love fluttered on us all. It was as though that those two were finally marrying but everyone in our group was too. We were truly one that day. We were truly united. We were truly a family.
My ears pricked up from looking at each couple with such love. Ash and Misty. Jessie and James. Jayme and Gary. Jayde and Cameron. Jordan and Lynne. And those were just the senior pairings. I didn't even have time to gaze at the offspring and their little moments when the host of the live music stepped up to the mic and spoke. Everyone was clutching onto their partners on the dance floor with adoration and synchronicity but they all listened.
"Well folks, it's that time of night." The surprisingly young male host spoke softly into the mic and fiddled with his bow tie before continuing. "Please would each gentleman ask another gentleman or lady that they didn't bring as their other half this evening to dance the next waltz?"
I smiled at the same time the floppy haired male did before my eyes went over to my raven haired best friend and his wife where the male had headed off to fetch a quick bite to eat before joining Misty and their eldest two children to dance as a clumsy fivesome. Sweet.
Next my eyes wandered over to Jayme and Gary and Jayde and Cameron who were swapping partners so it was the tall purple haired Morgan female with the short khaki haired male. It was also the spiky haired Pokémon Researcher with the short lavender haired other Morgan female. That sight made me giggle.
I didn't giggle when my eyes travelled to where the newly wedded couple of Jordan and Lynne had just finished dancing together next to Jessie and James. I was widely intrigued of how that was going to go down. I should have known. I suspected one thing but completely was taken off guard by the other thing.
Jordan had left Lynne at the altar many many years ago when they were still alive due to anxiety and nerves. Before that, the reason was he had to go off in the navy. Now they had their adopted son and were back for another visit, they were marrying. I was so proud of Jordan for finally making it official with his amazing orange haired wife. That pure and true couple deserved nothing more. He had done so well all day. And his next gestures were quite sweet and bold for the sensitive male.
He broke away from his red headed life partner after giving her a clumsy kiss on the cheek. He bowed to her goofily before running a hand through his hair and locking eyes on where James was kissing his wife's hand. After doing that, James opened his eyes and locked eyes with his best friend. Jessie wondered who James was staring so softly at and soon smiled herself once she had turned around. She didn't have time to make a comment about what a close bond those two had when Jordan stammered slightly but took a step forward. He should have looked at Jessie but he looked at all three of them for permission during his words.
"May I have this dance?" he asked shyly and with that sheepish smile of his, causing Jessie to smirk slightly in shock and tilt her head while James and Lynne positively beamed. They were his biggest fans if I was honest. And they loved seeing him succeeding and interacting. They were even more proud of the bond that Jessie and Jordan had. It was weird but it was sweet.
Both James and Lynne didn't hesitate to nod while also smiling in a way that showed that Jordan didn't even need their permission. They all respected each other and their relationships so much. Jessie soon nodded and took hold of Jordan's slightly sweaty and shaky hand and allowed herself to be moved with him to a different part of the room. I wondered if they were hoping things would happen between a certain other pair.
I didn't have time to wonder any further or go back to looking at the other couples because the floppy haired host took to the mic once again. This time, he had a glass of white wine in his hand. But he didn't slur as he had to repeat himself.
"Some people are dawdling a bit so let me remind everybody. Would each gentleman ask another gentleman or lady that they didn't bring as their other half this evening to dance the next waltz please?"
This time, as the lights dimmed further and the delicate piano music across the room began, he stepped away from the mic. In the corner of my eye I saw a lavender haired male approaching a ginger haired female with his hands gently behind his back. It was James approaching Lynne.
As the piano grew all the more passionate but still quiet, my heart for some reason ached in my body for Lynne. It was the way she was holding herself. It was the way she was looking. She looked as if she didn't think she was going to be asked by anyone, let alone James. She looked as though she was in her own world, wishing for something but at the same time for once having no belief that it would happen.
Looking at James almost fixed my heart. His eyes were fixed on her. She looked absolutely beautiful with her straightened orange locks and purple dress for the wedding after party but I knew he wasn't seeing her external beauty. He was looking right at her but seeing the beauty of her soul. The beauty of the soul that he had come so close to having as his before Jordan and Lynne's wedding was announced. He should have looked broken for that reason. But he wasn't. I knew it was because he felt completely at peace looking at her.
As James' hand reached from behind his back in a shy but assured way, Lynne snapped out of her thoughts and delicately gazed back to where the movement was coming from. She didn't have time to offer him a smile because he spoke, not bothering to hide the hope and love he had for her.
"Shall we?" he asked her simply but somehow his tone said it all. And she was doing her best to mask it but I saw the way her eyes lit up even if James didn't.
The lavender haired male's tone said it all while Lynne's eyes and own actions did too. It didn't pain me at all to say they were perfect as she just slid her hand into his and allowed him to move her to the centre of the ballroom to dance with him.
It was as soon as their fingertips touched and they felt each other's warmth that the singing began.
You're in my arms,
And all the world is gone.
The music playing on
For only two.
I watched as, after they both found the perfect space to be together, they just stood in front of one and other, their eyes meeting before traveling down to look over one and other. They just looked sublime. James' hair was shorter but still possessed that thickness of when it was down his neck. It fell over one side effortlessly and he was in a full suit. Black blazer. Black waistcoat. White shirt. White bow tie. Pocket watch. Black trousers. Shiny shoes. He was handsome. And his eyes were soulful.
Lynne looked completely angelic in her purple dress yet at the same time the cut of it made her resemble a mermaid so much. Before her hand reached out to hold James' other one too, she pushed her long and straight hair over one shoulder. I could almost feel James' own heart clenching with every emotion on the planet.
So close,
Together.
And when I'm with you,
So close,
To feeling alive.
As the last word of those lyrics were sung, James' hand moved to hold onto her waist but at the last moment, he stopped. He didn't fumble. His hand just simply reached to hold onto her wrist instead, like he was trying not to melt with love in front of her. Before the next part of the song was sung, Lynne stopped looking from down at the floor and looked at the man in front of her with the most vulnerable and pure look that said it all.
She wasn't afraid. They were allowed to have their own private moment. So in her eyes, they should seize it. James locked eyes and swallowed but I could see his shyness and trying to keep it together was disappearing. He had a chance to be in his own world with the other woman he loved more than anything. He was going to grab it. And his eyes showed that he was ready as Lynne moved his hand from her wrist and placed it on her lower back. As the music continued, she moved closer and the two begun properly dancing.
Our life goes by,
Romantic dreams must die.
These words were being sung above the heads of James and Lynne and they were dancing together in perfect unity. Their eyes were locked. They were speaking as their lips didn't move. James didn't want Lynne to let her life go by without him being a part of it. Lynne didn't want James' romantic dreams of her to die. They didn't want to let go.
So I bid mine goodbye,
And never knew.
James finally broke eye contact with Lynne upon hearing this words and he shut his eyes but continued dancing with her. As tears formed gently in the corner of one eye, Lynne didn't stop her feet moving and her hand moved to softly stroke his cheek. She understood. He was thinking of all the goodbyes he had said to her when she had to go back up there. He was also thinking of how that distance was one of the reasons Lynne had been so hesitant to say yes to being his too. But he wanted to try. He always had and always would. As he opened his eyes, they couldn't help but remind her that his offer was always there.
So close was waiting.
Waiting here with you.
Now that James' eyes were open and he was holding Lynne's body close to his, it was her eyes that decided to shut. He copied her. He continued dancing but his hand went to cup her cheek tenderly. He knew. It had been a long wait and a long but beautifully worthwhile time coming before they finally entwined in bed together the first time. That night eased their souls but also made them reach out for one and other all the more.
And now,
Forever I know.
Lynne's brow furrowed gently as she prayed that when she opened her eyes, that her ocean blue orbs wouldn't leak everywhere. And they didn't. They did so much more than that. James held her hand tight and her body even tighter and stared into her eyes. Into her soul. They just knew. They knew so much about one and other yet loved one and other all the same. They knew they wanted each other. They knew they wanted Jessie and Jordan. They knew they were right. But it was their decision and their other partners decision whether they could truly become one. And there was something stopping them. Nothing other than themselves and the excuse of distance.
All that I wanted?
To hold you,
So close.
So close…
After spinning his orange haired angel around once and causing her dress to flutter around her ankles, James pulled her into his arms so they were almost hugging while dancing. This was it. They didn't even know it but they were putting on such a display in front of the whole room. It was obvious. They were reaching out to one and other in more than one way. Jessie and Jordan were dancing too but of course not with the same chemistry. They were staring but not in a jealous or malicious way. They just knew too. They knew this would happen.
They knew James and Lynne were great together. They had discussed on many occasions that they should be a couple while they had the chance down on earth while staying with them too. But like I said and like they did, James and Lynne were stopping themselves for whatever reason. But it was wearing off. You could see. They were bursting and merging and melting in each other's arms. The universes that were one and other were coming together. And the word beautiful didn't do it enough justice.
…To reaching
That famous happy ending.
After dancing with Lynne so her body was away from him but their fingers emotionally entwined, they soon moved back to their original positions and faced one and other as they danced. Their eyes locked again. James' head jerked slightly in a nod. It was like he was saying 'say yes'. Lynne's head or body didn't move aside from dancing. But her eyes flickered from his lips then up to his eyes again. They just continued dancing. Their souls becoming one yet their hearts aching at the idea of coming together then being separated by life and death.
Almost believing
This one's not pretend.
This time, as James was blinking and swallowing back his tears as the emotion was beginning to get to him, Lynne was the one whose head moved in a gentle nod. She was acknowledging the love he had for her and was offering to her as her new partner. She knew it was there. And she wanted to take it. She was close too. She knew it wasn't pretend. She only had to glance into his eyes. The enthusiasm he had towards her, the beauty he saw, the admiration, the appreciation, the desire, the enchantment, the love he had for her was all there like in each coloured rose he had given her on Valentine's Day one year. She knew it was real. And she was so close to making him hers.
And now you're beside me,
And look how far we've come.
Their eyes locked for the hundredth time that dance but this time, you could almost feel something click. Something fizzed. Something sparkled. It was happening. It was so close. It was going to happen. They were agreeing. They had come so far.
James getting a crush on his best friend's mother and heavily denying it when questioned. Her thinking he was cute crushing on her before realising she felt the same way about him. Days, weeks, months and visits passing. Feelings getting stronger. More intimate. More real. Their first kiss on New Year's Eve. The first time they saw one and other cry. The first time their bodies intertwined. Each time their bodies intertwined. How amazing he had been when she miscarried. How loving he was even though she upped and left every so often. How pure they were even though they fought. How delightfully happy James was that Jordan and Lynne were marrying, even though everyone knew he had wanted her for himself too. Now here they were. They were in the present. They were in the moment. And they were falling even more in love. They were so close. Even I was begging for them to just let it happen.
So far
We are.
So far.
These lyrics were sung and at the same time, James and Lynne looked deep into each other's eyes and shook their heads. They weren't going to let the opportunity get away. Not this time. And then it seemed to spiral.
The lyrics stopped but the beautiful melodies went ahead and as they did so, James and Lynne began to dance together and become one spectacularly. They moved close. They moved apart with their bodies still linked. His eyes smiled at her. Her eyes smiled at him. His mouth beamed at her. Her mouth beamed at him. He picked her up. He spun her about. She looked down at her with love and held onto each other's shoulders. They didn't even notice that the entire room had stopped dancing to watch them.
Young and old. For it or against it. Parent or child. They all watched. And nobody could deny the true feelings that James and Lynne had for one and other that they were expressing to one and other and everyone through their closeness and their dancing. I for one was sincerely rooting for them. In that moment, my heart was beating for them.
As James put Lynne back down on the ground, their eyes locked for yet a wonderful and magical second. They continued smiling. Their bodies moved closer. Her hands were around his neck and his hands were on both her hips. Neither of them noticed that Jessie and Jordan were back next to them. As the next lyrics were sung, Jessie moved her hand to cut in, thinking it was the end of the song. But Jordan stopped her. He didn't speak or look at her, he just stopped her. But she knew.
Oh how could I face
The faceless days?
If I should lose you now.
If Jessie had accidentally or purposely cut in, James and Lynne could have lost each other. But she didn't. So they didn't. They were lost. But lost in each other's eyes. Lost in the love they were accepting and ready to grab and presenting with one and other. They were human and angel. And I wanted their hearts to become one.
We're so close to reaching
That famous happy ending.
And almost believing,
This one's not pretend.
This time, as the enchanting couple dance and those words were sung, the look on their faces were completely different. It was no longer a maybe to them being together. They knew they were together. She didn't have to look into his eyes to see his heart he was presenting to her. She had already received his heart. And she was honoured. So she showed this by the way she held onto him and the way she didn't break away from his eyes and the way she stroked his face.
Let's go on dreaming
for we know we are…
James and Lynne didn't need to dream anymore. They were still in their own world but the real world was their own world. Their love was real. Their love was brilliant. Their love was pure. He had his angel and he was sure that he was never going to let her go. Even when he had to say goodbye to her. He knew it would hurt but he knew his love for her was strong enough to withstand distance and she felt the same way. They felt so blessed to be in amazing relationships already and now had an extra with each other. They didn't need to dream. Reality was better.
So close.
So close…
James stopped dancing with Lynne. Lynne stopped dancing with James. Their hands didn't leave one and others. Their eyes didn't leave one and others. That was until James' dropped down to her lips. She blushed for the first time that whole dance. Her own eyes soon travelled down to his own lips.
His hand delicately reached out to stroke her lower lip. It was half in permission, half like he was checking that his dream was truly a reality. After he did that, she did the same to him but to his top lip. And hers was in a different way. Her finger trace showed the desire she was allowing herself to have and the promise she would always watch over him and keep him safe.
They didn't hesitate to lean in. I was waiting. I was waiting for the magic.
…So close and still
So far.
The words were finally wrong. They were not so far. They were in the moment. They were seizing the present. Their faces were close. Their lips were even closer. I was waiting with my heart thudding in my chest.
I so badly wanted them to do it. They so badly wanted to do it. Nothing was stopping them. I looked around to make sure nobody truly was stopping them and they weren't. This moment was James and Lynne's if they wanted it. And they did want it. But they didn't lean in to lock their lips together. They did something far more intimate for them.
James' hands moved from his new girl's hips and went around her waist. He almost hugged her to pull her even closer. She smiled near his lips and kept one hand around his neck and the other softly stroking his hair at the back. She was waiting. But she was waiting for a different thing than I was.
The moment was finally even closer as James moved nearer to Lynne and I felt like kicking myself for not knowing what he was going to do.
The lavender haired male gazed into his angel's ocean blue orbs and he smiled before shutting his eyelids. His hand caressed her cheek before moving back around her waist. He moved closer to her so their noses touched. She pulled him closer to her by his hair and softly and automatically nuzzled her nose against his.
Their eyes opened. Their eyes locked. And they held each other close as their noses brushed one and other's. They had kissed and concealed the fact they were now each other's in their own special way. And I loved them for it.
It was unexpected. It was unique. It was pure. It symbolised them. And in that moment I knew that if Lynne had angel wings prominent on her back, they would be fluttering now that she truly had received everything she ever wanted. Her James. His angel. Their love. Their future. They finally seized it. And it was going to be heavenly.
The End.
There you go! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed but especially you Shannon :3 I'm not really sure when I headcanon officially when James and Lynne finally become boyfriend and girlfriend as well as being with Jessie and Jordan respectively but in this fic, they do after Jordan and Lynne's wedding. Jordan just gets so happy to make it official with Lynne that he can't help but share her with James too. And James and Lynne finally seize that opportunity :P Thanks again for reading and I'll be back soon!
