Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back with a new update. This one is where Dylan is 18 years old and going on his first day with Morgan, Jordan's little sister. She died way back when she was four years old in the 80s but finally came to visit from up there when Dylan was four years old. And because of their bond, Morgan began to age with him. So they're both 18 here. It's a little cute fic proving that these two unique people deserve romance and love themselves :3 I hope you enjoy!
Ages:
James: 51
Lynne: 30
Dylan: 18
Morgan: 18
Disclaimer: I own the story and Dylan and Morgan :3
"Okay, Pikachu, just keep still a little more…" James mumbled to me as he adjusted the outfit that he and his clothing line were making to match Ash for one of our TV appearances.
I nodded at his calm tone and gave him a smile but I didn't open my eyes, more content than I'd like to admit as the lavender haired male's fingers brushed my fur as he fastened another button. What he and his wife did was magic. They just seemed to know exactly what was right and what to design for people and Ash and I were no exception. We always loved matching. It was our thing. And it made me even more excited that we were always associated with one and other.
I opened one eye when James accidentally pulled on a strand of my fur but I didn't complain and, as my eyelid fluttered open, I saw Lynne come twirling over to her other man's side and give him a smile.
James was too busy making sure my little collar and bow tie fitted well that he didn't glance over at the orange haired female coming to his side but I saw his mouth quirk into that soft smile he always gave her. He knew she was there. And she loved being there. She loved watching him work.
As he pulled away from me and came to the end of our little fitting session – it was perfect and there was no more to be done – he gave me a gentle pat on the head. After he moved to put his measuring tape back in the drawer and was about to take his glasses off, Lynne's arms wrapped around him.
I smiled to myself but not to the same extent that James smiled now that his second lady's arms were around him from behind. His fingers moved and he left his glasses on just for her before they made their way to stroke the skin of her hands softly. He leaned back and nuzzled his nose against her cheek before breaking away, giving her a playful smirk and taking his glasses off again. Much to her displeasure, it was obvious to see. She pouted at him while he continued smirking.
"You're not meant to be here, angel." He uttered, his smirk softening out into a smile and he briefly nuzzled his nose against hers before tidying everything away. He remained communicating with her as I decided to give her hip a loving nuzzle. "It's almost six o'clock and I have another visitor coming."
I couldn't help but wrinkle my nose upon hearing this, thinking Jessie was going to be coming to his office for some fun that I knew James and Lynne had been up to before I got here. I just knew. But then I chuckled out loud to myself. Jessie was a special visitor but there was someone else coming to his office, I remembered. For a special occasion. And it made me spine shiver with excitement.
Lynne stopped pouting and nodded understandingly, her eyes lighting up when she too remembered and thought a little bit about what was going to be happen. James saw his girl's look and softened himself, letting out a loving sigh to prove this and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"I doubt you being here will be the height of his worries tonight but you never know." He smiled airily and flicked her nose carefully before hopping to sit his bottom on the desk next to me and swung his legs in his work trousers. "I guess you'd better get going before he gets here, baby."
Lynne let out a quiet sigh of disappointment but it was the quickest one I ever heard. She nodded again understandingly and I looked away as her hand moved to James' thigh and they shared a kiss goodbye. After that was over, I pretended to let out a disgusted noise but neither of them heard me.
James continued moving to the door after jumping down from his desk again and grabbed hold of the door knob to let her out. He was just about to twist it when there was a knock at the door and before any of us could guess right who it was, the person on the other side spoke.
"It's Dylan." He announced simply in his level tone and didn't make another noise after that. No cough. No tap. No shuffle. Just an announcement of his arrival.
Lynne's blue orbs went from melting to the fact it really was almost time for the special occasion to glancing over to the window. James held onto her hand and stopped her before she could hop out it in case Dylan grew upset. But the green orbed male gave her a reassuring smile and a nod of his head to make it okay with them both as his fingers stroked her.
"He'll be fine." He mumbled softly before moving his fingers away from hers to open the door for his quirky grandson.
I knew what was coming tonight. It was an amazing occasion that Dylan was taking Morgan, Jordan's little angel sister, on a date after their blossoming little romance for many years. Everybody was slightly shocked that Dylan had indeed asked her all by himself. But most of all, it melted our hearts. I knew he was taking her out to dinner. I didn't know why I expected him to be in his usual casual clothes.
Lynne let out a little breath of love when she saw Dylan all grown up and in his suit but James didn't make a noise. His reaction was all in the eyes. They melted. They shone with pride. They pricked with slight tears.
The dark purple haired male had probably been prepared by his parents and his grandmother that he was going to get many loving reactions. His head ducked down shyly as he looked over his all black suit with white shirt and an undone black bow tie before lifting his head up and stroking his usual curtain hair that was slicked back with his father's gel. He looked so handsome and so grown up. It bought a tear to my own eye.
Dylan didn't hesitate to move into his grandfather's arms when he held them open for him and he patted his back rhythmically at the affection but not for as long as he used to do as a little boy. James pulled away when his grandson did after a few seconds and shook his head in loving disbelief, patting his shoulder softly.
Lynne wanted nothing more than to stay and watch her man interact with the sweet young man but she wanted to make Dylan's night as easy as possible so she left after giving James a kiss on the cheek and an innocent little curtsy in her curtain dress.
James smiled as lovingly at this as he had done at Dylan in his suit and the latter person surprised me by changing conversation quickly and turning behind him to glance at Lynne.
"Bye Lynnie." He called after her softly as she headed back to her and Jordan's section of the house to assist Morgan with getting ready. Not that Dylan knew.
The lavender haired male waved after her before shutting the door and holding onto his grandson's arms. He was beaming with pride. This was the little quirky boy who caused their family so much worry in case of how people reacted to him. And now he had a precious date. It made James and I's hearts soar. It made me even more adamant that my Pokémon Journeys had been amazing but the journey of watching our family grow and the children turn into men and women was a whole other experience of its own. It couldn't be beat.
"You look really handsome, Dylan." James nodded and smiled at him before letting out a wistful sigh, getting right to work on tying his bow tie for him when Dylan just pointed a finger towards it.
Dylan looked down at his grandfather as he worked on fixing him up, his fingers going back to smoothing down the unusual texture that was in his purple locks.
"Thank you." He muttered simply before letting out a sigh of nothing in particular and his shoulders moving as he did so. It didn't take long for a Dylan moment of honesty to happen. "You're looking a little red."
I wasn't expecting this answer and couldn't help but let out a few amused giggles, causing Dylan to laugh as well out of habit before showing an expression that he didn't really know why he was laughing. After they died down, I glanced at James and after a long look; I saw that he was indeed a little pink. But nothing really noticeable to anyone other than Dylan.
James was a shy man and was often uncomfortable with things about him being pointed out but his grandson was almost like a son to him. Just like James was to his own grandfather. He didn't mind. He just shrugged and smiled and nodded, continuing to fix his bow tie neatly.
"I probably am, buddy, I'm just really excited for you." He mumbled honestly and pressed between his eyes like he was pushing his glasses up and then resumed what he was doing for his grandson. "But you might want to try a different approach for when Morgan compliments you. Because she will."
Dylan blinked those interesting orbs of his and met James' eyes when he looked up at him before looking down at his shiny shoes, shrugging unsurely.
"Well, what do I say?" he asked in his level tone before surprising me more than James when he followed this sentence with another intuitive one. I just forgot how much Dylan had grown. He would always be that same little boy to me. "Now that you bought it up, I was thinking I'd say 'Thank you. You look lovely.'"
James bit his lip lovingly and flicked his bow tie gently after he had finished tying it, standing back up to his full height and so he was looking at where Dylan's eyes would be if he was looking right at him. He seemed to be still fascinated by his shiny shoes but he was paying attention to the conversation too.
After nodding his head approvingly at Dylan's simple plan, the lavender haired male couldn't help but wrap his arm casually around his grandson's shoulders. But he didn't get too close in case he smothered him before such a big event.
"That's a really nice thing to say, Dylan." He continued nodding his head and uttered in a soft tone before continuing. "But also paying attention to detail would go down really well too. You gotta notice things. Compliment her hair or eyes or dress or something. Make it personal."
Dylan looked back to meet his grandfather's eyes for quite a long time, his head tilted on one side as he spoke.
"Okay. Make it personal." He muttered as if he was making a mental note, his fingers beginning to tap against his own leg. "I could tell her that her dress matches her eyes."
James nodded his head and smiled at Dylan but didn't say anything, too busy tucking in all of his pockets for him to make he was even smarter. When the dark purple haired male's eyes wandered to me for a second opinion, I nodded and smiled. That seemed like the right thing to say to me.
We both gave him looks and reactions of approval but for some reason, his eyes suddenly widened and his arms dropped to his sides awkwardly.
"But she might not be wearing a green dress and then it won't be matching her eyes. What do I do then?"
Oh, Dylan. He really did melt my heart away. He was such an unusual yet sweet young man. He had a dose of factual, he had a dash of creativity but he had a whole lot of adorableness. And not in a way that you feel sorry for him. Because you didn't. He was strong and smart and had a bright future ahead of him in his own way. He did things his way. And we did things to make things easier for him. And when you think about it, isn't that what we all do? When you love someone, you want them to be content always. No matter the cost or no matter the circumstance. People are worth it. And so was Dylan.
I resisted letting out giggles of fondness towards the purple haired young man and James did too but he found it harder to do. His eyes were lighting up with fondness and he was biting his lip to not smile too much. He shook his head and tapped Dylan's face lightly just once.
"Don't overthink it, buddy." He muttered simply to soothe his nervous tapping and continued to give him a reassuring smile, going back to standing in front of him. "Just tell her the truth. The nice truth."
Dylan remained quiet for a few moments before repeating his grandfather's words in his head and you could tell he was doing this because his lips moved. After he did that, his finger leg tapping stopped and he gave James a smile. A real one. Not one he was mimicking off his granddad.
After we had had quite a few moments of long interaction since Dylan had entered the office, he began to go quiet and his leg tapping started up again. James studied his grandson's face and decided to speak again but soothingly so as not to give him too much to think about before his date as he looked at the clock. He didn't need his head exploding.
"That really is a nice suit, Dyl." He mumbled gently and went back to smoothing it down for him before giving him a playful smile. "I did quite well making it."
Dylan seemed to come out of a trance as he was staring at the clock and he smiled at James upon seeing his but this time it was a mimicked one. He did nod his head and tell the truth as he opened the blazer briefly to show the lining.
"It has aeroplanes." He breathed out and nodded his head again before buttoning his jacket back up himself and speaking with even more honesty. "I'm not feeling so good."
James glanced over at his grandson with worry and almost slight surprise as he heard this, moving away from him to give him space but watching over him tenderly. He could help but ask.
"Did I make you feel bad?" he mumbled with concern, now mildly guilt ridden that his conversations and speaking had been too much and maybe Dylan needed silence before his meal.
But Dylan was quick to shake his head and meet his eyes briefly with honesty to reassure his grandfather.
"It's not you. I felt bad before I got here." He answered truthfully and with a shrug before wriggling his shoulders slightly. He then pondered his own answer and corrected himself. "Well, I don't feel bad. Just… Weird."
When the young man blinked his interesting orbs in worried curiosity, James couldn't help but smile and melt and sit down casually on his desk. He ran a hand through his hair as he spoke to his grandson.
"Does your heart and tummy feel weird? Is your heart beating fast and is your stomach getting fluttery?"
I melted myself upon hearing this and assumed that would be an acceptable thing but Dylan did something I hadn't really seen him do before. He pursed his lips to deny this and rolled his eyes before giving his grandfather a playful smile.
"James, it's not that." He breathed out quietly, acting almost like a little teenager as he and James engaged in conversation. After James got over his grandson's slight attitude and raised a playful eyebrow back, Dylan turned serious and mature for a few moments.
"I really can't explain what I'm feeling. I feel different. When I think about Morgan I feel… I feel like letting go."
I blinked upon hearing his words and tried to fathom them out myself but James tilted his head on one side and just listened to him. He continued.
"When I think of her, I feel like I'm losing control. And it feels scary. But at the same time it makes me feel warm. I feel scared. But I also feel like it's going to be okay."
I'm going to be honest with you and say that I really didn't understand what he was feeling. I hadn't exactly heard a crush be described like that before. But glancing at the lavender haired man, I realised that he knew. He understood his grandson. And it made his eyes fill with tears.
"Aw, buddy…" he mumbled softly and stood back up off the desk and tried to keep it together as he spoke. "That's what it's like. That's how it feels. You're right. You're getting feelings for an angel, Dyl."
Dylan furrowed his brow upon hearing this and his arms folded over his chest but not defensively. He just needed something to hold and he settled on holding himself.
"I'm not sure I'm in love." He breathed out simply, his interesting orbs still filled with curiosity over his grandfather's words. He wasn't sure how James knew exactly how he was feeling, bless him.
James let out a quiet laugh upon hearing this and nodded at his grandson's words before pushing his hair out of his eyes. Afterwards I shrugged and like Dylan, I didn't know why. They contradicted his words.
"I don't think you are if you're not sure if you are." He uttered with the kind of wisdom that showed he had been lucky to experience love before continuing. "But you've known her since you were four Dylan. And that's the most perfect thing for you. You're going on a date with someone who knows you inside out. And is an angel. That's the best thing ever."
It was at the moment that James said 'angel' for a second time that we both understood what exactly he was getting at. And how he exactly understood Dylan's feelings.
James had fallen in love with Lynne and she was an angel. She made him feel scared and at home all in one. Their love had been a journey and his love for her, he didn't admit for a long time. He thought Dylan might be the same. We listened as he continued. It was clear that he was happy and was hoping that his grandson ended up with an angel just like he had. He knew they were special. He knew they were worth it.
"On this date, you are going to be with the softest and the most empathetic soul in the world. She will be up for anything. That warmth you're feeling is her heart and her presence. When you love an angel – whether it's friendship or romance or admiration – it's like you can feel their invisible wings wrapped around you. And I want this nothing more than for you. Because getting to know an angel is wonderful. But aside from that, you are getting the opportunity to love, Dylan, and to be loved. That's everything that I've ever wanted for you. It's a big 'up yours' to the people who think that certain people shouldn't fall in love. That's false. Everybody should fall in love, love and be loved. And you are no exception. You have every right to experience love, no matter what kind it is. And it's an even more beautiful thing because it's you – your special self – and your Morgan who is an angel. This is the life I knew you deserved since I laid eyes on you."
James trailed off emotionally at his special speech and I could almost see the lump forming in his throat. It was in mine too. And maybe it was in Dylan's. But he didn't show it.
He nodded his head and remained silent for quite a few moments before adjusting his own jacket and giving James a smirk that was exactly like his.
"It's only a date." He muttered simply and with a playful attitude that was telling James to calm down and that filled us with just as much love as the idea of him dating itself. He really was becoming a man.
James laughed upon hearing his playfulness and as Dylan laughed himself, he quickly wiped the corners of his eyes and snuck him quick loving glances. He really did love him almost more than anyone. And maybe it was this love. Or maybe it was this pride. Or perhaps it was Dylan himself. He did something amazing.
He looked at the clock before opening the door.
"Can we go now? I want to see her."
My heart leaped in my chest upon hearing this and I expected James to be the same but he was being hesitant. After looking at him, I understood. He wanted this to go perfect for Dylan. He wanted him to feel the same love he had been lucky to get. He was worried that changing the time would mess with his head and ruin the special opportunity.
But then Dylan looked him in the eyes and James looked at him back. He understood. Dylan wanted to do this. Dylan had probably thought about the what ifs himself and was unfazed. So he didn't have to be.
James just nodded and smiled at his grandson and took hold of his hand. I hopped on James' shoulder and was tingling at the feeling of being a part of this little moment.
Together we wandered down the halls of the Morgan Mansion to get to the little building off it that was where Jordan and Lynne lived. We remained in silence on the walk but our hearts were singing. Mine to a tune of gladness that I was witnessing this. James' to a melody that was aching for Dylan to experience everything he wanted for him. Dylan's to a rhythm of the unknown but contentment.
We stood behind the dark purple haired young man as he took a step forward to knock at the door and utter the words 'it's Dylan' in his level tone that he had done to us earlier in the day.
I could almost hear James' own heart beating from his shoulder and I let out a shaky breath. I thought to myself. I imagined Lynne opening and cooing how handsome Dylan was all over again and sharing the same feelings as James. I also imagined Jordan opening the door and being firm with Dylan but accepting and telling him not to make his sister cry and to get her home by eleven. This would have confused Dylan no end. He wouldn't have wanted to make Morgan cry.
I shivered to myself, too into all the possibilities that I didn't hear the footsteps coming to the door. But Dylan did. He stood up straighter and he fixed his hair. It was almost as if he knew that coming to the door was his future life partner.
The door creaked open and a flash of yellow was seen first. I thought it might have been Jordan. James knew it wasn't. The door opened more and I saw a flash of blue. I thought it might have been Lynne's eyes. Dylan knew it wasn't. Dylan knew it was Morgan's dress.
The door opened fully and the two young people of blossoming romance looked over one and other. Dylan had been practising what he was going to say but suddenly just couldn't in that moment. Morgan was normally and bubbly, quirky and talkative thing but this time she was stunned into silence at her handsome date.
They let out shy laughter and just smiled at each other. Their eyes met and we felt it all. Like James had described before, it felt like we were all wrapped in angel wings at the presence of Morgan meeting Dylan's eyes and seeing him for how he truly was. Perfect.
We all felt the angelic glow when Dylan reached forward and took hold of Morgan's hand and planted a gentle kiss to the top of it.
Their date was beginning but so were their lives together. And it made our hearts complete that these two individual souls were ready to become entwined. Their unique and precious souls. Both so different but always accepting of each other. No matter where life took them or if they were in the same destination. Their love had been set in stone. And it was a blessing to us all.
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 So yeah, James and Lynne are officially dating here too when she comes down despite the age gap and they have kids together here as well. But they're not mentioned. I headcanon that Eddie also has a little soft spot for Morgan and is bewildered that his little brother 'stole his girl'. Even though Morgan didn't like him that way :P Dylan ends up with Morgan for good and they work well together. She is good with all people especially after being the one who looked out for Jordan when they were younger and loves Dylan just how he is. And Dylan, well, just like his grandfather, he can't resist an angel :P Thanks again and I will be back next Wednesday with another chapter so see you then!
AmyBieberKetchum signing out :3
