Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back to update this story. I can't believe I wrote this one a month ago now. I initially wrote it thinking that it was going to be just for me but I changed my mind. This focuses on Justin and Katie's friendship when they're a little bit older. That bond starts when she's 12 and suffering from her stutter and he's 18 and working on getting the courage to come out. They get very close over the years and remain firm friends even when she dates his brother, Jayden. But this story tells of a rare bit of turbulence in their bond. I hope you enjoy :3
Ages:
Justin: 23
James: 44
Jorgie: 4
Johnny: 2
Misty: 37
Katie (Mentioned): 17
Jayden (Mentioned): 20
Disclaimer: I own the story and the characters mentioned!
I knew something that someone else didn't. After a sudden turn of events and quite a bit of turbulence, something rather romantic happened when Jayden took hold of both of Katie's hands the night before and asked him to sail away with her all over again. The two of them left in the middle of the night, leaving just a single note behind. I knew of it because James had found the message in the early morning and had phoned Misty right away. Everyone was informed. Everyone was surprised. But they understood that it was what the two youngsters wanted. They were happy for them. They were happy. But I knew that someone in particular wouldn't be.
Justin woke up surprisingly early that morning and perkily too. Straight away upon opening his eyes, he had gotten out of his bed and proceeded to get dressed. He brushed his teeth. He combed his hair. He left his bedroom, barely looking back. He came down the hallways of his family home and he was humming quietly a song that was potentially one of his latest creations.
Judging by the time, he knew exactly where his family members were going to be. So he came out of his bedroom and walked along the hall, heading to the family living room with the breakfast bar just off it. He entered that room with his hands in his pockets and still humming that possible new tune of his. He was seemingly happy. He was seemingly chipper. The lavender haired male noticed and heard his eldest son's presence straight away.
James was in the middle of getting four year old Jorgie ready for school while assisting Johnny Jinn with eating his porridge also. He looked like that typical 'daddy day care' image of himself that he had grown into in recent years. His hair was tied back in a long ponytail and he was wearing washed out dungarees with old paint splodges on them and fresh lumps of porridge from his son also. He definitely didn't mind. Being a stay at home parent to them was what he loved to do. He enjoyed how it gave him some more time with his older children as well.
"Morning Justin. You're up early." The lavender haired male commented to his son as soon as he entered the room and he briefly turned around from picking oats from Johnny's lavender locks to give him a smile. That warm smile soon turned to a bit of a smirk when Justin smiled back and continued strutting through the room, not stopping his humming to himself. James pushed a loose strand of hair from his eyes. "And you're very perky this morning."
He was. Jorgie looked up at her older half-brother from adding the finishing touches to her uniform seeing as she had finished her own breakfast not too long ago. She was smoothing down her hair. She continued looking at Justin. She didn't just smile. But she was very aware of his presence.
Justin was normally the type to keep a lot of things to himself and on the down low. But as soon as his father noticed his surprisingly contented early morning demeanour, for once he didn't just nod and smile in response. He had some words for him. He stopped humming and his hands came out of his pockets. He shrugged.
"Well… I guess I am. I've got stuff planned for today." He began but he proved how it was still rather new for him to indulge everyone completely by how after giving Johnny Jinn a little wave, he started bustling around the room and collected some things he needed for later on. He paused to push his growing locks out of his eyes. "And I was up talking to Sammy pretty late so that was good."
It was James' turn to just smile in response and nod to his son. As Justin continued picking his keys up off the floor and grabbing his jacket that he had left draped on the back of the chair, the lavender haired male resumed encouraging Johnny to continue feeding himself his breakfast. A few seconds of silence past but then James broke that when he realised he was interested in his son's words. Jorgie perhaps was too by the way that she listened in and raised both of her eyebrows.
"What's the grand plan for today then?" he asked Justin and he tried to turn around properly to give him a bit more attention as he prepared to listen to him but once again, Johnny got distracted from feeding himself. He dropped his spoon and James had to turn his back on his eldest son all over again to pick it up for him. But he did keep turning back to give Justin sincere glances. Either way, the deep purple haired male didn't mind. He replied, finally taking a break from bustling around.
"I'm going to see Katie. I've got this thing for her." Justin said with a smile and a shrug too. Nobody knew what he was talking about and his words were rather vague but that was okay. He had explained himself at least a little bit.
But upon hearing these words, James had quite a strange reaction in his eldest son's eyes by freezing for just a few seconds. And then he shook his head at himself, trying to move past that before anybody really noticed. Justin had. Jorgie had. Maybe even Johnny had. In fact, there was quite a high chance that Johnny had because, all of a sudden and out of the blue, after taking his last mouthful of porridge, he decided to make a point of it.
"All gone." He mumbled before chuckling to himself, pushing his empty bowl right onto the floor and causing the plastic to make a bit of a clattering on the floor. James automatically went back down onto his knees to pick it up but he found himself giving his youngest son little glances and potentially even small shakes of the head. It was like Johnny was warning Justin, though he was not even three years old. The deep purple haired male needless to say did not catch on.
"Messy, messy boy." He commented with his own shakes of the head but he said it with light-heartedness. After pushing his hair from his eyes all over again, he glanced at his watch and adjusted the sleeves of his jacket. He briefly reached to pat his father on the back but he intended to not stick around much longer. "Well I'm going to get going. Got a Katie to see, and all that."
Justin got ready to leave with some speed. He was evidently excited and very much looking forward to seeing his good friend. And like he had said, he apparently had something for her. James showed off the same speed by acting quickly and coming out with words while picking more stray oats of Johnny's off the floor.
"Really? Now? You need to go right now?" James burbled out and while his eldest son just nodded in response and looked around the room to pick up some shoes he had left strewn about there the night before, he knew he had to act quickly. Luckily, out of the corner of his eye he saw Jorgie absentmindedly studying the packet of cereal on the counter. He inwardly thanked her for the inspiration. "Don't you want to stay and eat something? Eat some cereal at least. I don't want you driving on an empty stomach."
Justin let out a sigh and he found himself looking at his watch. He really wanted to be elsewhere. But after thinking to himself and how much he did usually enjoy eating his breakfast food of choice, he decided to go for it. But first and foremost, it was probably to make his dad happy.
So after the deep purple haired male relented and nodded and bustled over to pour himself a bowl of cereal, James occupied himself with cleaning the breakfast off his youngest son's face with a baby wipe. He was probably thinking how he was going to break the news to Justin. He was probably thinking how he was going to tackle that subject with his son. But he knew he would worry about that when it actually came to it.
The lavender haired male tried to relax, thinking that Justin was momentarily distracted with making himself breakfast. But the truth was and James would be able to see that the deep purple haired male was pouring himself a much smaller cereal bowl than usual. And he was adding barely any milk to it. After doing that, Justin seated himself at the breakfast bar nearest to Jorgie. He started eating it as speedily as he could while his father was distracted once again by lifting Johnny up off his seat.
It was true that Jorgie was never really on Justin's side. Those two siblings were close but at the same time, they drove each other insane. Jorgie didn't understand why she couldn't wrap Justin around her little finger like she could do with her father. Justin didn't understand much of Jorgie at all. They were both close. But they were both vastly different.
But that morning, however, was different. Jorgie for once in her life seemed to work in Justin's favour. She had been a good little girl all morning getting ready for school but at that moment when it came to buttoning her own shirt up, she got distracted and did it all wrong. She buttoned the buttons up wrong so she was left with an extra one that she didn't know what to do with. She didn't hesitate to let out a displeased whine. Justin laughed at her. Needless to say, right away, James helped her.
"Oh Jorgie don't fret, it's all okay. Daddy will help you; you did really well." He told his youngest daughter with a loving and patient smile and he proceeded to somehow be able to go back down onto his knees and hold Johnny on his hip in one hand while sorting Jorgie's buttons out for her.
He continued reassuring her but she continued fussing. Her bottom lip started to tremble. Justin started to roll his eyes. But after Johnny looked over at him and he stopped being so mean, he got an idea. He realised it was the perfect escape. The eldest Morgan son finished shovelling the last few of the small amount of cereal into his mouth and he didn't hesitate to use his long legs to walk quickly away from the bar area. He promptly put his lace up shoes on and then he attempted to leave.
"Well that's me out of here. Good luck with these two. Bye!" he spoke and he spoke quicker than any of that three had ever heard. He suddenly was determined to leave the household. The lavender haired male's eyes widened as soon as he did so and as soon as he realised his eldest boy was out of sight. So he did something rare. He did something very rare indeed. He almost raised his voice. He didn't have time to warn Jorgie.
"Justin! Get back here please! I need to talk to you." James called to his son while staying at his daughter's side and holding onto his youngest son. It goes without saying that it wasn't even a proper yell. It was simply a raise of the voice to get Justin to listen to him. But in Jorgie's eyes, her daddy never did that. It caused her to whimper. She very almost nearly cried. So James was forced to pick both her and Johnny up onto his hips while still trying to prevent Justin from getting too badly hurt. "Justin I mean it. Back here now, I need to talk to you."
What followed a very small silence was a bit of a sigh but then the pattering of shoes on wooden floor could be heard. And Justin peeked round the door. He tilted his head at his father to show him that he was still there while running a hand through his hair. He sighed again but he obliged when James gestured to come into the room properly.
"Dad, I really want to go and see Katie. Like I told you earlier, I have this thing for her. I-" Justin began and because the lavender haired male felt as though he was running out of time and losing control at Johnny starting to whimper just because Jorgie was, he found himself blurting out. It was a bit of a shame, really.
"Katie is not here, Justin." James told his eldest son and his tone came out a lot harder than he intended because of the same reasons as him blurting out. After Justin's eyes just widened and he found himself smiling out of disbelief and he responded with 'what?', the lavender haired male shook his head and breathed out. It was easy for him to be softer as he explained. "Katie left last night with Jayden. They've gone back travelling. She left a note but she's probably quite far away by now."
And upon hearing that, Justin didn't know what to do. Justin didn't know what to say. Justin didn't know how to react. But as soon as he looked into his fathers concerned and empathetic eyes, he knew that he was telling the truth. He started to process it. His brow suddenly knotted. And after Johnny Jinn unhelpfully started to chant 'all gone, all gone, all gone', Justin gritted his teeth and turned on his heel. He didn't hesitate to get on out of there.
"Justin!" the lavender haired male cried out in surprise to how his eldest son was reacting. Once again, his tone was too loud for Jorgie and she whimpered all over. Johnny copied her. But luckily a bit of a miracle happened when Jordan suddenly entered the room from he and Lynne's annexe and after James breathed out, he was able to simply gesture to Jordan and he knew what he meant. He knew what he needed. He didn't hesitate to take the two children off James so he could follow after his eldest son. He called after him again. "Justin! She's not at home! She's not home, Justin!"
The deep purple haired male continued walking on out. He had seemingly forgotten about taking anything to Katie. He seemingly was set on going there and seeing for himself. James didn't understand that. He knew that Justin knew that he wasn't lying to him. So why was he reacting like that? Why was he running?
Justin didn't stop. He walked along all of the hallways of the Morgan mansion and headed right out onto the front door. His shoes made crunching noises on the gravel as he walked far away from the front door and he made little turning motions as if he didn't really know where to go. I imagine that his expression was unreadable. He was most definitely frowning. His breath was potentially hitched.
The lavender haired male had never seen his eldest boy reacting in that way and it was filling him with great concern. As Justin continued turning and looking around, not really sure what to do or where to go, James took the opportunity to get closer to him. He tried to grab hold of him.
"Justin… It's okay, she's okay. She's happy. She-"
The deep purple haired male suddenly snapped at his father. He turned to face him and he looked at him like he had never looked at him before. His jaw was harshly clenched. His eyes were filled with pain but they were protected by anger. He very nearly hissed. He shoved his dad's hands away from him.
"You put it all in her head that she needed a holiday after everything that has gone on and now she's gone just like how Lynne always has to go and it's all your fault!" Justin yelled at his father and with his last and final word, his hands reached out and he shoved James in the chest. Automatically, the lavender haired male's eyes widened and they filled with tears. He only managed to speak out one word.
"W…What…?" he breathed out and couldn't seem to fit it all inside his head how Justin was reacting. It was making his head hurt. Unfortunately, there was more to come. Justin gave him one more shove as his own eyes pricked with tears and then he backed away from him.
"Just stay away from me!" he yelled once again, his voice rising even further. He paused to see how the older male was going to react but it was like he was barely noticing it either. And in that moment, it was like he didn't care. James' face just fell. James' face just simply fell. He didn't know what to do. He didn't know what to say. He didn't know how to react.
The deep purple haired male growled and clenched his jaw and then he turned away from him. He shakily reached inside his pocket for his car keys and got them out, unlocking the vehicle. He used his long legs to rush over to it and get inside, not looking back at his family member. If James didn't want Justin driving on an empty stomach then he most definitely wouldn't have felt happy with him driving away so upset and fired up.
But he can't have done anything. Because just over half an hour later, Justin arrived at the Ketchum household. And that was when I was able to be certain of things. That was when I was able to be certain of everything. I saw it for myself.
Misty and I were in the kitchen tidying up after our own family had wolfed down our breakfast when we heard a car pulling up in the drive. It couldn't have been Ash because he had already left for the day. It couldn't have been anyone else for a variety of different reasons.
But a reason most strongly of all, we knew it wasn't a family member because we both got a feeling of dread in our stomachs. It's like we already knew what was about to happen. It was like we already knew something was wrong. We both looked at each other. And we didn't hesitate to hurry down the hallway when Justin knocked on the front door.
"Coming!" Misty found herself speaking out even though she knew that her voice couldn't possibly be heard. And this was even with being known for quite a good vocal volume at times in her life! She continued scuttling down the hall, fumbling with the door key to open it. When it swung open, she came face to face with the deep purple haired male. She promptly blinked. She said his name. "Justin…"
You'd have thought that a half an hour drive would be enough to soothe ones emotions and allow them to process things and gain some composure. But this was not the case for the eldest Morgan son. As soon as he saw Misty standing there, every single emotion of his got the better of him and he did something very rare by suddenly bursting into tears. He reached his arms out to Misty and then fell against her. He clung onto her, burying his head against her. He made very quiet crying noises but they were clearly powerful judging by how much his shoulders were shaking. Misty swallowed and uttered his name again.
"Justin…" she breathed out, out of concern and didn't hesitate to hold the lanky young man back, her hand absentmindedly going to the back of his locks that were beginning to grow down his neck again. And then, hearing him pause crying to take an emotional gasp, her body suddenly filled with panic. She held him tighter. She almost gripped onto him. "Justin… Justin, what is it? Justin, what's wrong? Justin, what happened?"
"I… It's Katie…" the deep purple haired surprised himself and us all by speaking out quickly but I got the impression that his eyes were squeezing tighter shut against Misty. But when he felt her tensing up against him, he knew that he had to pull away and gain just a little bit of composure. He made himself wipe away his tears. For once, he didn't care about his display of feelings. He gulped. "W… Where is she?"
I understood that all of Misty's fear came very quickly but upon hearing those simple words, they were able to be washed away. She was able to piece some things together. I did too. She took a step back so she could look at Justin properly and she held a hand over her heart. She shook her head. She looked back at me and after I looked straight back at her, she responded to her best friend's eldest son.
"She… She went back travelling with Jayden last night, Justin. She left a note. She said goodbye." The orange haired female told him and right away when she saw the way that his body tensed up and his face winced, she got the impression that her words weren't exactly true for the both of them. She felt sad for him. She felt concerned. But she needed her own little bit of reassuring first too. "She… She's okay, right? She is okay, isn't she?"
The deep purple haired male didn't respond. He had barely processed a single thing on the drive there and was suddenly doing it there and then on the door stop. He shakily ran a hand through his hair. His eyes filled with more tears. One of them threatened to drip down and out of his nose. Misty saw how pale he was. Misty saw how shaken up he looked. She was intuitive at the best of times but she knew a lot of what had happened in recent weeks and it didn't take a genius to fathom it all out. She knew she had to believe that Katie was okay and it was Justin who wasn't. After looking back at me one more time, she gently moved out of the doorway. She gestured.
"Why don't you come inside, Justin? Come inside." She spoke to him and I liked the way that she changed her words and was more direct when she saw that he was well past being asked questions. But needless to say, I didn't have time to focus on that. I only had time to focus on Justin. And it crossed my mind many times how he clearly did truly and sincerely appreciate Katie.
When the deep purple haired male didn't move, Misty encouraged him to come in all over again. She even took hold of his hands and pulled him in and after shutting the front door behind us all, she lead him down our own hallway and towards the living room. She didn't let go of him when she felt how cold yet clammy his hand was. She breathed out. We both shared a very, very brief look. Jayden wasn't the only one who cared for Katie.
"Why don't you take a seat, Justin? Take a seat." The orange haired female managed to speak to her best friend's son with the same amount of patience and calmness but I understood that it was causing her heart to clench to see him like that. She hated seeing upset in anyone. But she especially hated it when it came to someone who was so dear to both her and her children. "Sit down, Justin."
Slowly but surely, Justin's cold and clammy hand managed to let go of Misty's. He vacantly nodded his head and after a few seconds, his long legs carried him towards the centre of the room. One would think that because of how uncomfortable he felt, he would like to sit somewhere comfortable. But it was obvious that Katie's departure was affecting him more than he expected and he was well past thinking.
He walked himself over to an arm chair but sat down on the floor in front of it, pulling his legs to his chest. Misty and I shared a glance all over again and she raised an eyebrow but she decided to go with it. After a few seconds, she wasn't surprised. On top of being around for many of his father's unpleasant moments, she learned to just go with the flow.
"Okay…" she mumbled out before coming to sit next to him and I didn't hesitate to be right by her side. I instantly seated myself on her lap when I knew that I had to make do it with it being hers instead of Justin's and as well as that, his legs pulled to his chest weren't exactly hinting an open invitation. He was evidently starting to feel a little bit embarrassed by his display of emotions but after his tears had dried up and he had wiped them all way, he managed to turn to look at the older female. He swallowed roughly.
"She… She left…?" the deep purple haired male whispered out and his jaw became decorated with the lightest blush out of how emotional he was being. While Misty could only nod her head sadly – for him – because she knew that Katie was content enough with Jayden – her hand reached out to stroke his wrist. Justin swallowed again and spoke a second time. "She… She didn't say goodbye…?"
And because the deep purple haired male was feeling so messed up, his words came out wrong. His words came out as a question instead. And because of this, Misty answered them a bit wrong too. She automatically nodded her head but then she shook it. She held onto Justin's wrist tighter. She swallowed herself. She explained.
"She… She said goodbye, Justin. She left a note at your dad's house. He sent it to me as soon as he found it." The orange haired female informed the deep purple haired male gently but needless to say, he only processed the first part of her words.
And like he often did when he was broken and protecting himself and trying to be brave, he found himself smiling just a little bit. But it was one filled with confusion. It was one filled with pain. And no wonder.
"She didn't say goodbye to me…" the eldest Morgan admitted in as close to a silent whisper as I had heard before and Misty found herself shutting her eyes briefly. She fathomed that to be true with the way he had reacted to her just a few minutes before but it was hard hearing them from him. And it was even harder for her to hear how much his own words were hurting him. When her eyes fluttered open all over again, Justin's were looking right at her and filled with vulnerability. "Why… Why did she not say goodbye to me…?"
This caused Misty to wince and shut her eyes momentarily all over again. That was it. That was right there. In her eyes and my eyes too, that last sentence of his was somehow so honest. Somehow so painfully honest. It is said that people show their true selves when they are hurting and a lot of the time, it is exactly that way for Justin. That day, he was filled with such hurt and confusion. And the last few weeks had caused that.
At the beginning of the month, something had happened to cause Jayden and Katie to break up. While they were away on their travels and sailing the seas on Jordan's ship, something had come up. They had been dating for a good few years but it suddenly got so quick and intense for Katie. It was her first relationship. It was Jayden's too but truthfully, he had been in it a lot longer than she had!
He wanted things to go even further between them. Out loud he started making plans for when they finished travelling and how they would live together and continue moving forward and be happy forever. Katie of course wanted a future with him. But she preferred to take each day as it came and make the most of being young and in love with no plans. This caused some disagreements between them. The disagreements became fights. The fights became a break up.
Katie came back home while Jayden stayed in the city that they had been in at the time. It just so happened that at the same time that all this was going on, Justin was having similar problems with his own boyfriend. In fact, the disagreements and the fights and the break up were almost identical.
When he had heard Katie was back home, he was eager to meet up with her and have some time with her seeing as they had been apart for a good few months. He wanted to catch up with his friend. They both expressed what had happened in their own lives and after realising how close their circumstances were and how they both wanted the same thing, they got even closer than ever.
They spend days on end together, just the two of them. They had a great time. They had a wonderful time. They fell together in a whole new way. It was wonderful. It was wonderful for them. But it wasn't as great when they both returned home.
The time that they had spent together caused lots of opinions from lots of different people. It caused upset and insecurity in Jayden. It caused bewilderment in Lynne. Almost everyone had their own opinion. And it threatened to turn something so enjoyable into something so uneasy.
And that uneasiness turned to pain when even after Katie had opened up to Justin and spent so much time with him, she went back to Jayden without even saying goodbye. Of course he knew that she was going to end up back with his brother – he fully encouraged it.
But he expected her to say farewell before he went. He expected her to show him how much their time together meant to her and how it meant as much to her as it did to him. But he didn't hear any of that. So that is exactly why he came to Misty so upset and he reacted to the father the way he had. It was almost understandable.
Misty needed to have a good think before she could answer the deep purple haired male's question. She didn't want to lie to him but she also knew that she could never truly know what was going on in her daughter's head. But she could hope. She could wholeheartedly hope. And she would be as honest as she could be.
"I… I don't know, Justin…" the orange haired woman began and she knew that she had to get an answer for him fast when she saw his face fall a little bit and his eyes close. He breathed out heavily through his nostrils; that frown coming back. Misty bit her lip. She looked up at the ceiling instead of either of us as she continued. "Maybe… Maybe she thought it would be easier for you. Maybe she thought it would be easier for her. I'm sure she wanted to protect you. And you know my daughter – she's like you. She doesn't do anything unless she fully believes in it."
Justin's eyes fluttered open all over again. He hesitated but he ended up looking at Misty when he felt her looking at him. He looked away again. He thought about it, his own hand reaching to hers while she continued comfortingly stroking his wrist. He shrugged. He tried to not but he couldn't. He didn't know if he believed her. He believed something else very strongly instead.
"I… I've ruined it. I've ruined it, Misty. I've made it weird. I've made it weird between us. And I'll never have what we had back…" he spoke to her and his words got thicker as he added more and more sentences. His frown became even more prominent too. He sighed. But he sighed in a way that was so slow and so shallow. He truly believed something quite sad and that was unusual for him. He shook his head and explained even more. He couldn't even sadly chuckle that time. "Jayden is the one for her; everyone knows it and I do too. But I thought we had… something. I thought our time together was… something. At the very least."
Misty found herself breathing out emphatically and her eyes watered just a little bit too. She was intuitive, that was true. And she had a big heart also. She had such a massive heart. She didn't like to see anyone confused and hurting but especially not her best friend's children. She absentmindedly brushed Justin's hair out of his eyes for him.
He reminded her so much of her best friend. Not in what he could do or what he looked like, but who he was. He loved the same. He loved everyone. He overthought a bit too much. He went above and beyond. He was left wounded when his gestures and kindness weren't seemingly reciprocated. She knew that her daughter would never do that to him. But she also understood that she had to put Jayden first for the time being. Justin understood that too. But it still made him sad.
"Have… Have you heard from her at all? Has she messaged you?" Misty asked rather simply, her hand moving away from his hair and going back to his arm instead. When Justin quietly swallowed and shook his head with the same simplicity, she tilted her head and asked with a bit more of a tone. "Have you messaged her?"
The deep purple haired male kept quiet except for a telling inhalation of breath and Misty knew exactly what this meant. I did too. She nodded understandingly but then she shook her head at him – fondly. She squeezed his arm very gently. She was about to say his name all over again but she wasn't given the time. Justin looked over at her, still frowning. His eyes were very telling, far more perhaps than even his words.
"I… I can't, Misty, I'm sorry…" he mumbled and I for one found it endearing how he was apologising. I had been quite protective for Jayden and Ash's sake when I found out that Justin and Katie had spent a lot of time together but after hearing bits and pieces of information and fathoming my own opinion, I decided that I would accept it as long as everyone else was. And for most of the part, they were. "I… I've lost my chance. I've ran out of chances. She would've messaged me a long time ago if she wanted to talk to me. And she hasn't… The chance didn't even come and go. It was never there."
Misty then got the opportunity to breathe out her best friend's eldest son's name.
"Justin…" she spoke to him and she encouraged him to look right at her. After he hesitantly and vulnerably did, she continued. She looked at the ceiling momentarily all over again to gather her thoughts but she looked right at him as she expressed him. She squeezed his hand. "If there's one thing I've learnt in my life, it's that you only run out of chances when you stop taking them. There's always a chance. There's always a chance, Justin. And you should always take them. They will always be there but on the off chance that they won't be… You should just go for it."
And it was at that point that the deep purple haired male found himself feeling a bit more clear headed. He showed off a bit of a smile. It was a tiny smile. It was just a small quirk upwards of the side of his mouth. But his dimple started to show just a little bit. And his eyes stopped being so pain-filled. They had a little bit of inspiration in them instead.
He nodded his head. He heard her words. But it wasn't obvious whether he would listen to them enough to act on them. And because Justin's gaze dropped down all over again at where their hands were comfortably touching, Misty took her own opportunity to speak all over. She pushed her bangs out of her eyes with her spare hand and she spoke with all the honesty in the world.
"And as for your 'I'm sorry', you don't have to apologise to me, Justin. For today. Or for anything." Misty began and she had a little bit of her own smile when she said her next words. But they weren't smug. They weren't knowing. They were accepting. "I… I know how much you care for my daughter. I know how much you care for Katie. And I'm not mad at you. For anything. I mean… How could I be? Not only does my daughter have the best uncle who for years on end has listened to her and watched movies with her and helped her through very difficult times, but she's had Jayden as her boyfriend who supported her long before they were romantically involved."
Misty was talking. Misty was talking and getting things off her mind. And Justin was listening. Well, Justin was trying to listen. Things got a bit hazy for him the further she went into it and he looked away all over again. But the orange haired female encouraged his head back upwards by squeezing the sides of both his shoulders when she saw it slipping and looked right at him so he understood the sincerity of her words.
"Not only does she have those two but she has you as well. And look at you guys. You two are two of the same kind. You've been through so much together. How lucky is my daughter? Not one, not two, but three Morgan men, all there for her. All supporting her. It doesn't matter if you all cross lines at times; you are there for her and you care for her. That is something that means a lot to me. And it means a lot to me how much you love my Katie."
And that was the moment that the deep purple haired male finally smiled for real. It came slowly and it came hesitantly – as if he was reluctant to let those sad feelings of Katie go. And he felt vulnerable about showing how much he truly did care. But when all the acceptance came, it came beautifully. His face lit up a good amount. He knew that he was still somewhat hurt and somewhat confused too but Misty was correct as well. He had a friend in Katie. She had a friend in him. And they were two of the same kind. Two ships that were passing in the night. But two ships that were comfortable to pass in the night.
The orange haired female's words were so correct as well, that Justin found himself adding some truths of his own.
"Katie's not the one who is lucky to have me. I'm the one who is lucky to have her. She's not the lucky one to have us guys. We're the lucky ones to have her." Justin told Misty with a brave and sheepish smile and after she reached out and squeezed his hand all over, she had just a few words for him for the time being.
"Exactly what I mean." The orange haired female uttered to him with yet another shoulder squeeze and after she noticed him move just a fraction and scrabble around and reach into his pocket, she knew she just had to ask. And not because she'd be smug that she helped out. But because she wanted Justin and Katie to be friends for always. "So… Are you taking a chance?"
And the truth was, Misty didn't even need to ask this. By the time those words came out, his phone was already in his hands and his thumbs were getting ready to type. But they paused. They hesitated. However, they didn't hesitate for a bad reason. They hesitated for a sweet one.
Justin simply nodded his head. But he didn't begin typing there and then right away. As he kept his phone comfortable in his single ring clad hand, he found himself moving down to rest his cheek on Misty's shoulder. And it was then and only then that he began typing to Katie.
And it was then and only then that the orange haired female found her cheeks flushing ever so slightly at how much she had found a family in not only James, but his children as well. She looked over at Justin while he typed and she absentmindedly shook her head. And she bit her lip.
She could never anything but supportive when it came to Justin. In fact, no one could be. He loved and respected Katie almost more than anyone in the world. They had been through a lot. They would go through a whole lot more. And they would do it together. They would never be apart. Not even with the great distances that sometimes parted them. They were meant to be. They were meant to be exactly what they were. Invincible. Incomparable. Indescribable. And simply - Justin and Katie.
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I definitely believe that I will write some more on the subject but before that, I plan to do some more about Justin and his boyfriend first, as well as Katie and Jayden. We'll get there! I have to say that this time last year, I wasn't really feeling what I was writing. I was enjoying it and I had lots of ideas but nothing felt as clear to me as it had before. But after focusing on Justin and then Katie and then Justin and Katie, I definitely have found my passion all over again. It seems that I write a lot about these characters and I know I do but the truth is, the characters of everyone else have developed in my mind as well from them. I'm really glad to have that spark back. I'm content with where I'm going with my writing :3 I like Justin in this one. He's a few years older than when I normally write him and you can see a good few sides of him here. You see him snap towards his father for a very rare time. Maybe I need to write about that. Maybe he doesn't even remember it! Thanks again and I will be back next Wednesday with another chapter so see you then!
