Chapter 18
Odette wander the campus and eventually came to the hall of mirrors. She stared at the Diasomnia mirror. She took a deep breath than walked through a mirror and stared up at the dark castle of the Diasomnia dorm.
It was a calm night, there were no storms brewing tonight. The castle just had an eerie green glow around it.
'Lilia did say they would welcome me without reservation. They've been friendlier than the other dorms.' Odette thought as she took a step closer to the dorm. 'But asking to stay for three days or longer? That might be asking too much.' She then took a step backwards.
"Odette? What are you doing here so late?" A voice asked.
Odette turned around to see Silver standing there still in his school uniform.
"Oh Silver. I could ask you the same thing." Odette said putting a fake smile on her face.
"It was my turn to take care of the horses after club. After I fed and water them I fell asleep at the barn." Silver confessed with a bit of a blush.
"The stalls always did look comfortable." Odette gently teasing, trying to make him feel a bit less embarrassed about it.
"Do you need something from fa-Lilia. Is something wrong?" Silver asked gently placing his hand on her shoulder.
"Ugh, I need his notes from Animal Linguistics but you're right it's so late. I shouldn't bother him this late. Good night Silver." Odette lied hoping it wasn't obvious. She stepped out of his touch and went back through the mirror before he could say anything.
Silver turned and watched her go. "I have a feeling somethings wrong." He whispered.
He made his way to the castle. 'Maybe I should tell father I saw her looking upset. She looked like she wanted to cry. She left in such a hurry through, maybe she wants to be left alone.' Silver thought.
Back in the hall of mirrors Odette took deep belly breaths, held it for a few seconds then slowly released it until she calmed herself down. 'I should have just told him. He's so nice, I doubt he would have turned me away.' She thought as she rubbed her finger tips to her eyes.
No sooner had she gain her composure when Jack came through the Savanaclaw mirror.
"There you are. I was starting to worry." Jack sighed coming up to her.
"Sorry Jack." Odette sighed.
"It's nearly curfew we near to get you someplace for the night. So are you coming to Savanaclaw?" Jack asked nodding back towards his mirror.
"Yeah, I'm coming." Odette answered and made her way towards the mirror.
Despite the curfew it seemed everyone in the dorm seemed to be up. Most were still working out on the dorm's field.
"This is a lot different the Heartslabyul dorm." Grim whispered as he came up to Odette who took him into her arms.
"Well they said each dorm had it's own 'flavor.' Savanaclaw must be jock and frat 'flavor'." Odette whispered back to him giving him a small hug.
"What's a jock and a frat?" Grim asked.
"I'll explain later." She said.
The group headed over to the Savanaclaw dorm. "No way." Leona said after Jack explained what happened.
"Why not?" Odette asked pinching the bridge of her nose.
"We don't allow pets." Leona said looking at at Grim.
"I'm not a pet! And you have more fur then I do." Grim growled.
"We do have spare rooms but they've been using as a dumping ground for all the students extra crap and no on has cleared them in months." Leona explained.
"So why don't they room with you Leona? You're room is huge." Ruggie suggested shocking everyone. "I'm still tired and sore from all the work I had to do for you at the Spell Drive Tournament so I could use a break. These guys can be your servants in the mean time."
"Fine, but we don't keep slackers around here so you'll have to follow all our rules around here." Leona explained with a yawn.
'Only the 'king' can be a slacker I guess." Odette thought as Leona lead them to his room. His room was beautifully decorated in and African theme and had large windows that looked over the dorm's track and field. It even had a king size bed and bedroom set with a matching desk and there was still plenty of room.
"Quit gawking, I'm going to bed so be quiet." Leona said flopping down on the bed and instantly going to sleep.
'That's a gift to be jealous of.' Odette thought glaring at him.
There was quick a knock on the door and Jack entered carrying a ton of bedding. "I figured you would be more comfortable if you made your own bed." He explained as he started quickly laying the bedding out between the bed and the desk.
"Thanks Jack." Odette said smiling at him as she helped him.
Once Jack had left the she got changed into her pajamas and went to bed.
Exhausted from the events of the night and her mood changes Odette fell asleep nearly immediately. Unfortunately her rest was disturbed by another dream.
"Come in, come in my child." A voice beckoned from the dark. The red haired mermaid appeared in the mouth of a cave. "It's rude, one would question your upbringing." The voice continued. The voice belonged to an octopus woman. She was able to convince the mermaid to sign a contract with her voice as collateral for a pair of humans legs and a chance to win over a human prince.
'Another mermaid dream? And this one with a contract. Jeez even my mind is remaining me how much I messed up.' Odette thought as she sat up in her messy shift bed just in time to see Ruggie walk in.
"Oh, you're up. I was just coming to wake Leona up. We have practice, you'll be joining us of course." Ruggie grinned.
After everyone was up they went out to the field in back. "Since you don't have powers you can just run laps while we play." Leona instructed her.
Odette groaned but began to ran laps but still kept an eye on the guys playing.
"Man you're slow." Leona taunted as he caught up to Odette after the match.
"I prefer swimming to running." Odette pouted. "Practicing for next year already?"
"Nope, practicing for a spot on the Interscholar team, the game is in May so the team will be picked soon." Leona informed her.
"Interscholar team?" Odette asked as they slowed to a jog.
"Yeah it's game of us against the Royal Sword Academy. It's an even bigger deal then the one you saw last month." Leona said. "You're still only human, and magic-less at that. You'll be no match against the Octavinelle Trio." Leona informed her then took off to get breakfast.
Odette just glared at his back.
