Chapter 24
The next day was the last day of the semester. During the early hours of the morning Odette had another dream. She was in a desert with two other people. The first was a tall dark guy in fancy robes and a short man who looked like a peasant.
"Follow it!" The taller man shouted as they following a flying golden beetle. The beetle hit the sand and became two eyes of a large sand tiger. "The cave of wonders!" He gasped.
'What a strange dream.' Odette thought as she sat up and rubbed her forehead. "Can't I go a week without a weird dream?" She muttered as she got out of bed. She then woke up Grim and got ready for class.
"Are you going home for the holiday?" The Ghost A the tall thin ghost asked coming out of the wall as Odette was putting on her coat.
"This is our home." Odette replied as she buttoned her coat.
"So we'll be having a feast here in the dorm?" The Ghost B, the shorter ghost asked coming down from the ceiling.
"I doubt it, we don't have that kind of money. What don't even have a tree sadly." Odette sighed as she tied her scarf around her neck. "What about you Grim? Just because I have to stay doesn't mean you have to."
"I don't have a family." Grim said point blank. "I've always been alone."
"Aw Grim." Odette cooed scooping him up and hugging him.
"Hey!" Grim cried out as he wiggled free.
"Alright be like that then, let's get going." Odette sighed as she grabbed her bag.
The entire class was abuzz with holiday plans. "Silence puppies!" Crewel stated as he entered the room. "I know it's the last day but don't forget while you're making your pedestrian plans that you have homework."
"Of course there's homework." Deuce sighed.
"Yeah but we have two weeks to do it, that's plenty of time." Ace smiled.
"What will you being doing for the holiday?" Deuce asked as he put his homework in his bag.
"We don't know but probably not a lot. We're stuck here." Odette answered.
"Is that okay? The cafeteria and store will be close." Deuce pointed out.
"They are!?" Odette exclaimed. "We might want to go talk to our favorite head master."
"He's probably at the hall of mirrors supervising students leaving." Ace said as he got up from his desk.
The group headed towards the hall of mirror where Crowley was, dress in a straw boater hat, a bright yellow tropical shirt, tan cargo shorts and boat shoes.
"He looks like a tourist." Odette whispered to Grim. "Typical snow bird."
"What's a snow bird?" Grim asked.
"Never mind." She sighed."Hey Crowley going somewhere?" Odette mocked crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yes on vacat,….I mean a research trip." Crowley began but jumped when he realized who it was asking the question.
"And what are we going to do while you're gone?" Grim asked copying her.
"A research trip? Dressed like that?" Odette asked.
"This is formal attire for where I'm going." Crowley replied.
'That's not even formal wear back home in Florida.' Odette thought rolling her eyes. "So take us with you on your research trip?" She asked.
"I can't have you come with me it's,….too dangerous." Crowley said snapping his fingers at the end of his sentence making them all roll their eyes at him. "I have a mission for you here."
"Of course you do." Grim sighed.
"I'm paying you handsomely for this task. I'm having a ham, potatoes, chicken, yams, green beans, rolls and cake delivered to your dorm right now and all you have to do is feed the fire fairies for me during the holiday. You just have give them firewood every morning." Crowley explained with a grin.
"That doesn't seem too bad. Alright we'll do it." Odette sighed.
"Since I'll be gone for so long I've decided you should have this. Use it responsibility." Crowley said as he handed Odette a smart phone. "Have a happy holiday." He then left.
"I don't know what else we excepted." Odette grumbled. 'With all these genies on this campus you think he could just have someone fix my old one would it work here?' She thought as she put the phone in her pocket.
"Coming through! You shouldn't stand in the middle of the walk way!" Ruggie shouted as he made his way through the group.
"Where are you going with all that? You have some bags and two are coolers." Deuce asked.
"I'm going home. I made a deal with Sam I got to take all the food that's going to expire during the break for free." Ruggie explained.
"You can't possible eat all that food yourself." Grim exclaimed.
"Sure can't but I've got to make sure granny is well fed, I'll probably give some of it to the neighborhood hooligans." Ruggie said with a shrug then jumped through the center mirror.
"Neighborhood hooligans?" Deuce asked but Ruggie didn't hear him.
"Ruggie is from a poor neighborhood in a poor town, he's feeding the kids in his neighborhood with that food." Jack explained as he walked up carrying his cactus.
"Aww! That's so sweet." Odette cooed.
"That many kids must be annoying. One is more than enough." Leona grumbled as he walked up to the group.
"Are you not going home? You don't have anything with you." Jack pointed out.
"Nah, I'm going home unfortunately. I just don't need to take anything. Home has everything I need. See ya later herbivores." Leona explained then went through the center mirror.
"He could be so much more if he just put in the work." Jack sighed.
"Good luck with that one." She said.
"Have a happy holiday Odette, Grim." Jack said with a small bow and blush then went through the mirror.
"Hey you guys shouldn't be standing here in the middle of the walk way." Carter called out as he and Trey walked up.
"Oh sorry." Odette said stepping back and pulling the group back.
"Looking forward to going home sempai?" Deuce asked.
"Not really, my sisters are gonna work me half to death with god knows what. I want to go home with Trey." Carter whined.
"Oh you have sisters?" Ace asked as he tried to image his sisters but only thought of two female version of Carter.
"Yup sure do." He answered his smile only half-hearted.
"I'll be working too. This time of year is hectic for my family's bakery." Trey chuckled.
The group then saw Riddle dragging himself towards the mirrors.
"You okay Riddle?" Odette asked as he got closer.
"Yes, I'm fine thank you for asking."Riddle responded weakly.
"I wish your mom would lift my ban from your house. I would love to bring you a cake for the holiday." Trey sighed as he patted Riddle's shoulder.
"I'm going to try and talk to her." Riddle sighed heavily.
"Aww is goldfishy not happy to going home?" A voice asked from behind the group. The group whirled around to see Floyd who had his usual smile on his face. "Troubles at home? You could stay at Octavinelle with us. You're so small I doubt Azul will mind."
"Keep your nose out of my home life!" Riddle snapped starting to turn red.
"Riddle calm down he's just trying to rile you up." Trey sighed.
"He's right Floyd you shouldn't put your nose into other's business." Jade said in his calm demeanor as he walked up to his twin.
"You guys aren't going home?" Odette asked taking a step towards them trying to pull Floyd's attention from Riddle.
"That is correct, we live in the northern part of the Coral Sea so it's covered in ice. This time of year it's hard to go home so we stay at the school." Jade explained.
"Oh that sounds terrible." She sighed.
"Nah, we'll go home at spring break. It's much more fun at that time. It's so boring during the holidays." Floyd complained. "So how about it goldfishy?"
"No thank you, I rather not spend the New Years with you Octavinelle boys." Riddle half growled pulling attention back to him.
"Ah too bad. I get so bored hanging out with the same people." Floyd whined. "If you're not going anywhere Shrimpy. You should stop by and visit."
"Yes, please stop by for a visit." Jade said with his smile then they left.
"You're insane if you hang out with those two." Riddle said. "Well, be safe everyone and have a happy holiday." He continued then went through the mirror.
"At least he has his spirit back. Have a happy holiday." Trey chuckled then followed.
"I should be going too but first a photo." Carter said holding up his phone and everyone posed for the photo. "Stay out of trouble guys, Happy Holidays." Carter said then left.
"It seems everyone has left already, here let me see that phone." Ace said holding his hand out.
Ace quickly puts his number in and helped her set up a Magicgam account. "This way we can keep in touch during the break. Just don't bother me too much." He said as Deuce took the phone from him.
"I added my info too but unlike this guy I don't care if you bug me. I'm sure the school is gonna be boring with everyone gone." Deuce said handing the phone back to her.
"Thanks guys. See ya later." Odette said waving."Happy Holidays."
"Happy Holidays!" They said waving back then went through the mirror.
"I guess we should just go home now." Odette sighed.
"Let's go see the feast Crowley delivered." Grim cheered.
Thanks for reading and sticking around. I feel like this is a boring chapter but it is important for the story. The next chapter does have our favorite boys through.
