Chapter 44

Deuce and Epel were gone the rest of the afternoon and didn't come back until after it was dark. While they were gone Vil made the rest of the group continue to practice.

Odette was dismissed to go prepare dinner while Grim stayed behind to work the stereo. Her phone pinged just as she was finishing up the curry. It was a text from Vil.

Practice is over. We're coming back to Ramshackle.

"Well at least I don't have to worry about hulling it over there or it getting cold." Odette sighed as she put everything on simmer and went to set the table. She was just putting the pots on the table when the group dragged themselves through the door.

"Alright you went with my suggestion." Kalim cheered instantly becoming animated again.

"Well, Vil did approve Jamil's recipe. I know I didn't make it the same but I hope you enjoy it all the same." Odette explained as she headed back to the kitchen to get the water pitchers.

"I'm sure it tastes fine do you need help?" Jamil called out after her.

"Nope go sit!" She commanded.

During dinner she kept looking over at Deuce and Epel. 'They seem okay, better than okay. What happened while they were gone? I guess if it all worked out for them. Maybe they can tell me tomorrow.' She thought.

Once they were finished with dinner, she shooed them all off again. "Go get ready for bed, you all have had a long day." She ordered once they dropped off the dishes. "I'll have everything cleaned in no time."

Once she was alone she put on a set of wireless earbuds that Kalim had gifted her when he found out she didn't own any. Once she was finished with the dishes and wiping down the dining room table she she still didn't feel like getting ready for bed so she stuck out the backdoor.

She went pass the graveyard and the sat on the edge of the crumpling stone fence that was suppose to run the property. She looked over the silent graveyard towards the still lite house. 'I wonder if all this has scared off Tsunotaro.' She thought as she curled her leg up to under her knees and wrapped her arms around her legs.

"It sure is cold here." She muttered as she watched her breath float out of her mouth and up towards the sky. She blew out a breath feeling a bit like a dragon and chuckled at her childish as the breath disappear.

"Odette!" A voice from behind her shouted making her jump. She turned to see no other than Sebek in his full dorm uniform.

"Good evening Sebek, are you looking for Tsunotaro, I mean Waka-sama?" Odette asked.

"Yes I am. What are you doing out here aren't humans sensitive to cold?" Sebek asked crossing his arms over his chest.

"We are, but I just needed some breathing room. The dorm feels like it's filled to the gills." Odette sighed.

"Fill to the gills?" Sebek asked raising an eyebrow.

"It's a saying from my world." Odette explained. "It means overfilled."

"Ah, I'll leave you to your breathing room then once you tell me if you've seen Waka-sama." Sebek said unfolding his arms.

Odette chuckled at this. "One track mind, you kinda remained me of Grim that way. Sorry I haven't seen Tsunotaro tonight. The dorm is so noisy he probably hasn't been here since the chaos started." Odette said.

"Don't compare me to that cat!" Sebek snapped. "Well if you have nothing useful to tell me I'll take my leave, good night Odette." He then turned and went back the way he came.

'You're loud like Grim too.' Odette thought as she watched him leave but then remember something she needed to ask him. "Wait Sebek!" She called out as she hopped off the wall to go after him but he had immediately stopped when she called his name.

"What is it now?" He asked turning back around to face her.

"Is Waka-sama's birthday party this Sunday still?" Odette asked looking up at him.

"Of course it, his birthday is a national holiday in our land. You should have received your invitation last week." Sebek said.

"Oh I did. I just wanted to make sure I had the date right." Odette assured him. 'It should be in my desk drawer in my room if Grim didn't mess with my desk again.' She thought trying to remember where she put it.

"Rather safe than sorry I guess. I've heard humans do have less mental capacity than fae. Waka-sama will be thrilled if you attend so make sure to show up on time." Sebek ordered.

"I'll be there early. My gift is kinda fragile so I need to make sure he receives it right away." She said twiddling with her fingers.

"Fragile? What exactly are you giving him? Another lacy delicate stuffed animal?" Sebek asked looking concerned.

"Nope, you'll just have to wait and see but I have high hopes he'll like it." She grinned.

"Very well, good night then Odette." Sebek said with a small bow then turned to return to his search for his Waka-sama.

"Good night Sebek." She replied then turned to head back to her dorm.

As she was locking back up she received another jump scare. "You shouldn't be sneaking out like that, it's not safe."

Odette whirled around to see Rook standing there in his pajamas. "Great sevens Rook, you just about gave me a heart attack. You need to wear a bell or something." She gasped as she placed a hand over her pounding heart.

"Non, a bell wouldn't work for a hunter like me." He grinned shaking his head.

"Were you hunting me just now?" Odette asked raising an eyebrow.

"Non, non, I came to tell you that it's your turn for the bath." Rook chuckled looking very amused with her comment.

"Oh alright. Thank you Rook and I'll try to be safer, I hope I didn't worry you. I just need some fresh air." Odette said and she headed upstairs.

"Non, I wasn't too worried." Rook smiled at her.

Thanks for reading and sticking around. After the rework I had to do I just wanted to write a fun short chapter. If any of my readers are Sebek fans I'm sorry it took this long for him to get a little spot light. I'm afraid that is my favoritism or lack of it showing again. Sebek is hard for me to write. I do have more planned for it so please stick with me.
