Alec sat alone in his study, his thoughts preoccupied with his son, Mattheo, and his friends.
As the Clave's Consul, he had the power and resources to deal with most issues. He had changed laws to support equality within the Shadowhunter world, allowing him and Magnus to marry and even altering the laws concerning Parabatai bonds. However, this issue was different. The records of the Circle had been destroyed to prevent their resurgence, and there was no easy way to verify if Mia and Adhara were registered in Alicante's records
Jace tried to reassure him. "Alec, you are the Consul. You've overcome numerous obstacles and challenges in the past. You have the power to resolve this as well."
Alec sighed and looked up, his worry etched on his face. "It's not that easy, Jace. The Circle's records were obliterated. I have no way of finding out if Mia and Adhara appear in the Alicante records."
"What about asking someone who knew the Circle members?" Jace suggested. "Magnus is more than four hundred years old. He must have some knowledge of the Circle and its members."
Alec hesitated. "Magnus is already conducting his investigations, and I don't want to burden him with more."
Jace pondered for a moment. "What if we summon Sammael? He's Mattheo's father, and he must have known Valentine and his followers."
Alec's face tensed. "Summoning a Greater Demon is extremely risky. If anything goes wrong, Magnus might not be able to contain him."
Changing the subject, Jace inquired about his godson. Alec's face immediately brightened. "He's in Italy, enjoying a vacation with the Potters and the Malfoys. They'll be back next week."
"I'm glad Mattheo has made such good friends," Jace remarked. "I know you and Magnus were worried he might have difficulty making friends."
Alec smiled, thinking of his son. "They're wonderful kids, especially Mia."
Jace couldn't resist teasing. "Half of Matt's letters are filled with Mia. I think your son has a little crush."
Alec brushed off the notion. "He's still too young to understand what love is."
Jace playfully reminded him of their shared history. "You fell in love with me when you were twelve."
Alec couldn't help but grumble, "Do you have to keep bringing that up?"
"Until the day I die," Jace replied with a mischievous grin. "I'll even ask for it to be included in my funeral speech, and yours too."
Alec shook his head. "I sometimes regret choosing you as my Parabatai."
Jace pulled Alec into a bear hug, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "You love me anyway. I make your life more fun. Otherwise, you'd be sulking in every corner of the Institute."
Alec chuckled. "Get away from me, you pig."
"I'm your favorite pig, Alexander," Jace said, laughing. "Now, I visited your house the other day, and you and Magnus traumatized me."
Alec chuckled. "That's what you get for not ringing the bell."
"You're my Parabatai," Jace protested. "I shouldn't have to ring a doorbell to enter your house."
Alec couldn't resist teasing back. "I'll tell Clary you didn't want to ring the bell."
Jace grumbled defeated, "I hate that you two get along so well now. I preferred it when you glared at each other."
Alec laughed. "Bad luck, Jace. Are you staying for dinner?"
Jace regretfully declined, "I can't, man. Clary is waiting for me for dinner. I'm already late."
Alec called after him, "Buy her a bouquet of flowers!"
As Jace hurried away, Alec watched with a smile, hoping that his friend's efforts would be enough to appease Clary's anger.
"What the fuck is a Parabatai?" Theo asked, frowning at the book before him.
Mattheo explained, "They are Nephilim warriors who are bonded for life through a ritual. They fight together and feel each other's emotions. My dad and my godfather are Parabatai, and my godmother and my aunt Clary are, too."
"So, they're like best friends, but with superpowers?" Theo asked, his eyes lighting up with curiosity.
Adhara rolled her eyes and remarked, "Teddy, you're a wizard. I don't know what's more magical than that."
"You're ruining my fun," Theo pouted.
Changing the subject, Adhara asked, "Where's Jace?"
Mia replied without looking up from her book, "He's in Monaco, handling some royal business or something."
Adhara sighed, "I think it's very cute that you send each other letters."
Witty as ever, Mia shot back, "Weren't you the one who insisted we become friends?"
Theo chuckled. "Does that mean he'll be at Hogwarts next year?"
Mia nodded. "He insists that now that we've become friends, he can't go to the other side of the world. By the way, Nate told me he'd be sending us a new brand of whiskey this year."
Mattheo interjected with a smirk, "My stomach turns every time I think about what happened to us."
Adhara couldn't resist a laugh. "Matty, you started running around the Black Lake in your underwear, and Theo started singing.
Theo chimed in, "I sang divinely!."
Mia teased, "You sang so divinely that the Great Squid hid and didn't come out for a week."
Theo smirked, "Aren't we going to talk about that time you both ate some weed gummies?"
Mattheo joined in, "You were so stoned that it's a miracle your godfathers didn't notice."
Those weed gummies got mixed up in our monthly cider box from Nate, and both Mia and Adhara got high. It was a very strange day at Hogwarts. Both girls had spent the day laughing at the smallest things, while Theo and Mattheo had laughed their asses off
Adhara continued, "I can't believe our brothers are starting Hogwarts this year."
Mia laughed, imagining the chaos ahead. "Minnie is going to wish she were retired.
Adhara couldn't help but grumble, "I adore my brother, but Draco is a snitch."
Theo made a playful suggestion. "We'll have to bribe him with chocolate or something."
Mia had a plan. "Harry is going to help us; he's not a snitch like Draco."
Mattheo added his agreement. "We'll bribe them both."
Curious, Theo asked, "Are you going to try out for the Quidditch team this year?"
Adhara shook her head, explaining, "No, I like to keep my feet on the ground."
Theo couldn't believe it, "But I've seen you play Quidditch, and you're great!"
Mia exposed the real reason, "What Addie really means is that she likes a Quidditch player and doesn't want to ruin his hair or nails."
"I'm going to kill you," Adhara exclaimed, playfully lunging at her best friend.
Theo was still curious and asked, "Who do you like?"
Mia started to answer, "The boy she likes is called Ce-," but Adhara immediately covered her mouth to prevent her from revealing any more.
Mattheo probed further. "You're blushing. Who's the unlucky boy?"
Adhara, still red in the face, denied with crossed arms, "No one. I don't like anyone."
Adhara had her guard up, and her tone was defensive. She didn't want to reveal her crush, especially in front of Theo.
Adhara protested, crossing her arms. "You're a fucking idiot, Riddle. I hate you."
"Don't take it out with poor Matty", Mia said, finally sitting down.
"There's nothing poor about Matty, he's a little Prince from Hell", Adhara growled.
"Are you jealous, Malfoy?" Mattheo smirked approaching Adhara.
"Mia, tell your little devil to stay away from me or I'll send him to Hell", Adhara said, glaring at Mattheo.
"Matty is not my property, he is a person", Mia said amused.
"He does everything you tell him", Adhara pointed out.
"Teddy also does what you and I tell him to do", Mia pointed back.
"Teddy is our property", Adhara said, "Matt is your property".
"This conversation is very strange," said Mattheo, watching Adhara and Mia argue.
"That's Adhara Malfoy and Hermione Potter for you, young Mattheo", Theo said as he placed his feet on Adhara's lap.
"Okay, Teddy, get your disgusting feet out of my clothes," Adhara said, clearly annoyed by the smell.
Theo argued back, "I took a shower this morning."
Adhara couldn't stand the smell. "You must have washed in the sewers because your feet smell like shit."
Theo, undeterred, began to move his feet even closer to Adhara, causing her to scream at him to keep his distance. Meanwhile, Mattheo and Mia watched and laughed at the spectacle.
Jace's arm wrapped around Mia's shoulders as they strolled together in the Great Hall, catching up after the summer break.
"How are you, princess? How was your summer?" Jace inquired, his hazel eyes locking onto Mia's.
Mia's lips curled into a warm smile. "Hello, JayJay. We spent a month in Italy, and then we went to New York to visit Matty's parents."
Jace tried to hide his disappointment about Mattheo but asked, "How was Italy?"
Mia's eyes lit up as she began to share her summer adventures. "Italy was incredible! We had the most amazing time. Matty's parents are wonderful people, and New York was fun too."
Inside, Jace couldn't help but groan. Mattheo might be Mia's friend, but he didn't quite like the boy. However, now that he and Mia were friends, he had more opportunities to spend time with her, without Mia constantly suspecting him of planning pranks.
One special thing he cherished was that Mia called him "JayJay". Deep down, Jace enjoyed it, even though he wouldn't admit it. It was a nickname reserved just for him. To everyone else at Hogwarts, he was Jace, but to Mia, he was JayJay.
Mia suddenly looked thoughtful and turned to Jace. "I have a favor to ask."
Jace was all ears. "What is it?"
"Would you take care of my brother?" Mia requested, her eyes locking onto Jace's with concern.
Jace raised an eyebrow, curious. "What's the reason?"
Mia explained, "Because my brother is surely going to be sorted into Gryffindor, and Draco will be in Slytherin. Draco has Theo, his sister, and me, but my brother won't have anyone."
Jace was quick to reassure her, his voice soft. "Don't worry about him. If your brother is anything like you, he'll have no problem making friends."
But Mia was still concerned. "He's shy, JayJay, which is unusual in our family. Please, be his friend."
Jace gave her a warm smile, taking Mia's request to heart. "Don't worry, princess. I'll take care of him."
Mia's gratitude was evident. "Thank you."
Their conversation was interrupted as Regulus led the new first-year students into the Great Hall. Mia couldn't help but look at her brother, who was walking beside Draco as they approached the Sorting Hat. As Harry passed by the Slytherin table, Mia offered him a reassuring smile.
The Sorting Hat's song began, and the Sorting Ceremony commenced. Mia watched eagerly as first-years were sorted into different houses. It wasn't long before Draco's name was called. He walked confidently to the front, not needing the Sorting Hat to make its decision. The Hat loudly announced, "SLYTHERIN!"
The Slytherin table erupted into applause as Draco approached. Mia, Adhara, Theo, Mattheo, and Jace were among the first to congratulate him.
"Dad and Mom are going to be happy when you tell them, Dray," Adhara said, hugging her brother.
Mia joined in, hugging him as well."Congratulations, Dray."
Draco beamed at their affection. "Harry's pretty nervous."
As Regulus continued to call names, they waited anxiously. When Harry's name was finally called, Mia and her friends held their breath. She anxiously watched her brother, who appeared to be arguing with the Hat.
"Why is it taking so long?" Mia inquired, her gaze fixed on her brother.
Theo tried to ease her worry. "It took you at least ten minutes."
After a few tense minutes, the Hat shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!" The Great Hall filled with applause and cheers. Mia couldn't help but squeal with delight. Remus whistled loudly, pleased to have his nephew in Gryffindor, while Sirius, in his Animagus form, wagged his tail.
As Harry joined the Slytherin table to hug Draco and Mia, Mia ruffled her brother's hair. "I'm proud of you."
Harry pouted, trying to flatten his hair. "Not the hair."
Mia introduced her brother to Jace. "This is Jace. He's also in Gryffindor."
"Nice to meet you," Jace greeted Harry, offering his hand with a warm smile.
"Likewise," Harry replied, shaking Jace's hand.
Theo teased his friends. "Uncle James is going to have a heart attack with you two."
Mia and Harry both questioned him simultaneously. "Why?"
Theo offered an explanation. "Because you're both going to play Quidditch. Uncle James won't know who to support."
"He's going to support me." Both siblings replied, frowning.
"Dad is Gryffindor." Harry said, his tone defiant
Mia's tone turned a bit more arrogant. "I am his firstborn."
Jace acted as the voice of reason. "Don't fight, you two."
"Quidditch is something serious in the Potter family." Mia claimed glaring at his little brother
Harry looked at his sister, determined to win her over. "Dad, Mom, Uncle Pads, and Grandpa will support me."
Mia, however, wasn't backing down. "Uncle Moons, Uncle Reggie, Aunt Cissy, Uncle Lucius, and Grandma will support me."
Harry, sticking his tongue out at Mia, pointed out the House loyalties. "Uncle Moons is Gryffindor and Head of House."
Mia stuck her tongue out right back at Harry. "Uncle Moons is my godfather."
Adhara couldn't help but roll her eyes at her best friend and her best friend's brother's playful banter. "You guys are like kids."
Minerva McGonagall couldn't help but curse the moment she accepted the position of Headmistress at Hogwarts. Her expectations for a peaceful tenure as head of the school had been sorely misplaced. In the past, the school had already been notorious for its fair share of pranksters, particularly the mischievous Weasley twins and the legendary Marauders. Those individuals alone had kept her on her toes. But now, things had taken a turn for the chaotic.
To Minerva's surprise, the likes of Harry and Draco proved to be far less troublesome than their older sisters. This, however, wasn't saying much, as Minerva's patience was being tested from all sides. With a sigh, she remembered the fateful words of the previous headmaster. "It will be fun," he had said, and she couldn't help but disagree wholeheartedly. The chaos that now ensued around her made her long for the quieter days when a student out of bed was the school's biggest concern.
The new generation of troublemakers had developed a unique synergy. Harry, Draco, and the Four Horsemen seemed to have formed an alliance, working together to perpetrate pranks of a grander scale than anyone had seen before. It was a nefarious union that kept Minerva guessing what would come next.
What was truly unnerving was the speed at which their shenanigans spread throughout the school. Within hours of one of their escapades, Howlers filled the Great Hall, erupting with the rage of Lily Potter and Narcissa Malfoy. Those voices, which many students now heard in their nightmares, would surely haunt the Hogwarts community for years to come.
As Minerva surveyed the ever-evolving chaos around her, she couldn't help but wonder if she had indeed made a deal with the devil, one that had left her longing for the days of the Marauders 'innocent' pranks.
"Can anybody find me anybody to love?", Theo began to sing, climbing on top of the Slytherin table.
"Ooh, every morning I get up I die a little", Mattheo sang, pretending to fall off the table, "Can barely stand on my feet."
"Take a look in the mirror and cry", Mia began to sing as she climbed onto the Gryffindor table, "Lord, what are you doing to me?"
"I have spent all my years in believing you," Adhara joined in, singing on top of the Ravenclaw table pointing at a boy, "But I just can't get no relief, Lord."
"Somebody", Theo shouted, pointing at the Slytherin table.
"Somebody", chanted those sitting at the Slytherin table.
"Ooh, somebody," shouted Mattheo, pointing at the Hufflepuff table.
"Can anyone find him somebody to love?", sang the Hufflepuff table pointing at Mattheo
"I work hard," Jace sang, climbing onto the Gryffindor table, pretending to be exhausted.
"He works hard", the Gryffindor table sang, pointing at Jace
"Every day of my life", Jace continued singing, "I work 'til I ache my bones"
Suddenly rose petals began to rain from the sky from the ceiling of the Great Hall while the entire Great Hall sang along with the Four Horsemen.
"Got no feel, I got no rhythm", Harry sang, pretending to dance, "I just keep losing my beat"
"I'm okay, I'm alright", Draco sang from the Slytherin table, "I ain't gonna face no defeat"
"I just gotta get out of this prison cell", Theo sang, lying flat onto the teachers' table, "One day I'm gonna be free, Lord"
"Find them someone to love", The Great Hall sang along
"Find me someone to love", Mattheo sang as he asked a Hufflepuff girl to dance.
"Find me someone to love", Harry sang as he began handing out bouquets of roses.
"Find me someone to love", Jace sang as he twirled Mia around
"Somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody", sang Draco strutting down the Slytherin table
"Somebody find me somebody to love", sang Mattheo as some students began to dance around.
The Great Hall at Hogwarts erupted with cheers and applause as the Four Horsemen, along with Harry and Draco, concluded their impromptu performance, showering the hall with rose petals. With a flourish, Theo stood at the Headmistress' lectern, ready to address the gathered students.
"Happy Valentine's Day," Theo announced, his voice oozing with charm. "The other Three Horsemen and I are willing to sing songs, recite poems, or even give gifts to your secret crushes, all for a small price."
Adhara, not to be outdone, stepped forward, giving Theo a playful nudge. "And for those of you who may have been less than faithful to your significant others, don't think you're off the hook. You'll receive a little gift from us as well. Happy Valentine's Day!"
The Hogwarts students spent the entire day entertained by the Four Horsemen's antics. They recited comically disastrous poems, sang songs with exaggerated passion, and delivered the gifts requested for their secret crushes from the Hogwarts students.
But the day took a dramatic turn when the Four Horsemen delivered their special surprises to those who had cheated on their partners. As Adhara had promised, these individuals found themselves with the word "CHEATER" displayed prominently on their foreheads, along with the names of the individuals with whom they had been unfaithful with. Chaos erupted as the realization set in, and many couples dissolved into shouting, crying, and confrontations.
Shouts, slaps, and even a few scratches filled the air as people confronted those who had betrayed them. Relationships crumbled, friendships were strained, and the Great Hall turned into a battlefield of emotions.
The Great Hall buzzed with the usual chatter of students, the clinking of cutlery, and the occasional laughter as Jace sat in front of Harry. The day had started just like any other, but little did he know that a revelation was lurking around the corner, waiting to shake his world.
"Quidditch is going to be intense next year, isn't it?" Jace remarked, his eyes shining with excitement as he stabbed a potato with his fork.
Harry leaned in, eyes gleaming with mirth. "Oh, absolutely. I can't wait to get on the team and beat my sister."
Jace then couldn't help but ask about Harry's older sister. "So, any new pranks your sister has in mind?"
Harry chuckled, "You know Mia, she always has something up her sleeve. I've learned not to ask too many questions."
Their conversation continued for a while, and it wasn't long before Jace brought up a different topic. "Hey, after classes, we're going swimming in the Black Lake. You want to join us?"
Harry shook his head. "Can't, mate. Draco and I have a prank to plan for tonight to celebrate the end of our first year. You guys have fun, just one piece of advice though – stay away from the third floor."
The last day went by, and Jace found himself longing for the Potions class, the one shared with Slytherin, where he would finally get to see Mia. However, fate seemed to be playing a trick on him. He'd dozed off after lunch, and when he woke up, he had to sprint to the Potions classroom. As he rushed inside, Mia was already sitting beside Mattheo, and Adhara had taken the seat next to Theo. Mia couldn't resist a little tease at Jace's expense, and his blush was undeniable.
As the day gave way to dinner, Jace found himself sitting next to Mia, Adhara, Theo, and Mattheo. Restlessness had him scanning the Great Hall for anything interesting. His gaze landed on the Gryffindor table, where Draco and Harry were engaged in a hushed conversation. However, it wasn't them who held his attention for long.
He noticed the Four Horsemen engaged in animated conversation. Theo gestured wildly, Mattheo nodded in agreement, and Adhara whispered something in Mia's ear. Laughter bubbled over, and Mia threw her head couldn't help but watch as her hazel eyes crinkled, her laughter infectious, while Adhara held on to Mia's arm to keep from falling.
It was as though he'd been transported to a night beneath shooting stars, when he, Mia, Adhara, Mattheo, and Theo had stargazed. And now, now, he couldn't look away from Mia because her eyes shone as bright as those heart raced, and he struggled to catch his breath, in disbelief at the revelation. It seemed as if he had been walking in the dark this whole time and someone had turned on a light.
"Are you okay, JayJay?" Mia asked, her smile small but warm. "You don't look well"
But Jace didn't answer because, holy fucking hell, Hermione Potter was breath-taking.
