What now? Everything is going so well.
'What's the matter?' asked Obi-Wan, calmly.
"I'm not sure…" said the droid. "This is very sudden. We're losing her… The data is just showing – there is no medical reason – it's inexplicable.
"We were seeing some good signs – of recovery… but – now it's almost time up – it's a sudden cardiac arrest."
This couldn't be. It just couldn't. Obi-Wan's voice hardened. "Why?"
No answer. The droid had already given the explanation, there was no further response or reason other than what already articulated.
Anakin stood. He froze completely. His mind came to a halt. And his emotions and passions... terminated.
"Maybe, there's a mistake," said Ahsoka. "Have another look, please."
"Lady, I've been doing this for a hundred years." Came a snap from the nurse. "The computers don't lie."
Ahsoka looked tense. Obi-Wan looked at Yoda, who also showed some compassion on his small green features.
Anakin then rushed and thrust himself on Padme's body, pushing aside the droid slightly.
He shook Padme till she awoke. "Ani… I didn't expect this… But… I'm fine. I'm in love with the man who fought his worry, his paranoia, and his darkness, for me. And Anakin is still Anakin. I love you, Ani."
"Padme, Padme, don't leave me. PLEASE!" Anakin wailed.
Padme clutched his soft hand.
"It's ok," she said. "Look to our babies. Luke... and sweet Lea. Take of them."
"I…I…I…"
This was it. It was over. The final cruelty of the Sith. Palpatine hadn't thought he'd lose but in the seconds, he realised this, he had used his last seconds to make true the false visions he only – only he – had planted on Anakin's weak and delicate mind. The mind of one so strong… but so vulnerable. The turn of someone so good… to someone so evil… Sidious had won. Anakin lost; he was the eventual and ultimate loser. I'm nothing anymore. I'm finished. I'm no one.
