Alexander's training class was given a preclass exam to determine responses to likely scenarios they might encounter. General Hammond and SG 1, as well as the instructors found his responses interesting.
Question one:
Your friend has been taken over by a Goa'uld, what do you do?
Alexander's answer.
Capture, interrogate and give them a merciful death. We currently do not have a way of removing the Goa'uld and the human is suffering. It is no longer my friend, it is the thing responsible for their suffering.
Exam question:
You encounter an android.
Alexander's answer:
Is it trying to kill me? Or is it curious? If its trying to kill me, fry it, if it's curious, try to help it understand.
Exam questions:
You meet a primitive people that worship a god.
You're sure they're primitive? Belief doesn't get abandoned just because you advanced technologically. And is there a god, at the very least a higher level being looking out for them? Unless their god demands blood or human sacrifice, be respectful. If they're sacrificing people, explain, with sharp instruments if necessary, why that's a bad thing.
Exam question:
You meet a people that believe there are demons on their world.
Alexander's answer:
Are there demons? If they're preying on people, then kill them.
Exam question:
An incorporeal entity has taken control of someone and they are behaving erratically.
Alexander's answer:
Determine how they came to be possessed because that will help you depossess them, hopefully before they eat someone.
Exam question:
You've been kidnapped by an alien.
Alexander's answer:
Escape, preferably before the probing begins.
"General, the more I hear and see, the more I'm convinced you're right and he was part of this Program in his home reality." Colonel O'Neill commented. "Even if he can't remember consciously, he seems to have encountered things similar to what we've encountered and has a good response to them."
"What about the killing of someone taken by a Goa'uld? That's a little concerning."
"His reasoning isn't. We don't have a way of removing the Goa'uld and the human is suffering."
"Indeed, mercy would be better for the host, keeping the Goa'uld alive within the host, drains resources."
"And his response to the primitive people question is interesting." Dr. Jackson said. "Makes me wonder if he encountered the Nox in his reality. They seemed primitive, but definitely weren't and certainly hadn't abandoned their beliefs."
"The incorporeal entity eating someone?"
"Granted we haven't encountered that, but if the entity is in control and that's what they want to eat, then yes, figuring that out before that happens would be a good thing." Major Carter said.
"I see your point. And demons?"
"Any number of beings could be considered demons, sir." Dr. Jackson said. "And if they are preying on people, then killing them and protecting the humans would be an appropriate response."
"So none of you have any issues with him being involved in the live action test?"
"Looking forward to seeing what he does, sir." Colonel O'Neill said.
A day later, while the class was visiting the SGC, an alert sounded and they were told that the base had been compromised and they had no idea how many people had been taken over. While the rest of the class, made for the surface and called for assistance, they didn't realize Alexander was doing something else. He broke into the atmosphere control room and released a knock out gas. When the assistance arrived, the entire base was unconscious, including him. His explanation? The compromised people could have set the self destruct before help arrived or built or unleased something that killed alot of people. Stopping them sooner, rather then later, was the best response.
"I'd like to officially welcome you to the Stargate Program Alexander. A new team is being formed, you will be part of it."
"Thank you, General Hammond. I'm looking forward to seeing new things and meeting new people."
"Private, I'd like you to consider applying to Officer Candidate School, I think you have the makings of being an excellent team leader. Give it some thought, will you?"
"Yes sir. You really think I could be a leader?"
"I do. You pay attention, you learn fast and are adaptable. You seem to get along well with most of the people here and you're earning respect from a good many people. I think you would do well."
"Thank you, sir. I will think about it. I admit, I don't know if I ever considered it before. Maybe I joined up to get a chance at something better and went enlisted because it's faster."
"Given what Dr. Frazer found in her exam, I can understand that, son. But now you've had a chance to see if being in the military works for you and if it does, then committing fully is the next step."
"You're right, sir. It is. How would I do this?"
"You've been cleared to live off base, you can commute to the Air Force Academy and do the necessary classes there. And think about a degree. To advance beyond Major, you'll eventually need a Master's."
"I will, sir. Thank you for having confidence in me. I don't think many ever did."
"I'm sorry to hear that, son. Everyone should be encouraged to become something more."
"Yes, they should."
