Three hours after Justice got home she had to leave to go to work at the library. She didn't want to sleep yet but she knew soon she would be tired and sleepy especially in the quiet library atmosphere.
She was on her way to the destination when noticed extreme fog wrapped around Main Land over the river. Couple minutes and Justice saw that the Zone had some fog as well but not that thick and green as across the river. "Is it so green and gloomy because of the traffic and always shining lights of Main Land? Winter is especially dark and rainy this year" - thought Justice.
When she got to the library she remembered that it was a special day for her coworkers and the library itself. A winner of the Annual Gotham City Public Library Sponsorship had to be announced on this same day. A month prior to this day all public libraries who would like to participate had to fill up an application. City of Gotham always struggled with budgeting of public libraries so Wayne Foundation many years ago came up with this Sponsorship to help some public libraries. There were three sponsorships and a lot of libraries. Libraries from Zones also could participate but they never won however year after year Zones public libraries were filling up applications.
Winners were announced on the official website and when Justice walked to her work station she saw gloomy faces of her coworkers.
-We didn't win… again. - said a library supervisor an old lady. Three more librarians were sitting around a table with a computer on it staring at the screen.
-Oh…I'm so sorry. -said Justice petting Mr. Chestnut who was laying on a table and bouncing his fluffy tale from one side to another.
-Pfffr-maau- Mr. Chestnut made a sound and closed his eyes.
-We participate in this sponsorship from the first year of its existence and the reason is obvious our library needs it! Look, the roof is leaking, part of the library closed because it's too wet for books. Books are getting rotten, we have only two working computers and they are from yearly two thousands. I don't want to start on our bathroom! - the old supervisor almost cried.
-Yeh…let's not talk about our restroom… -said Justice.
They one more time checked the website and it was nothing and just like that life began again. The first customers were Logan and his crew who came for a meeting. Logan was looking awful and tired, a young woman beside him was looking devastated. Justice remembered her name Ilham and she could tell that woman was crying a lot last night.
This day was really terrible foggy uneasy and sad… one more day in the Zone number 3.
